My sisters and I decided to hit Java Nation for breakfast last Saturday since we live down the street and never tried it. They are self service for breakfast and then do reservations/seated dining for dinner so no worries if you can't find a reservation in the morning! The worker at the counter was awesome with providing suggestions and helped us decide on what to get. I had the French toast which was definitely different than anything I've had before. They coat the OUTSIDE in sugar which gave it a crunchy texture and was a little bit too sweet for me, but still quite good. We split the ginger zucchini cake which was perfectly moist and I wish I could've heated it up a bit to put the icing on the cake (no pun intended). The food came out quick and the servers were great despite not having "formal" service going on. Definitely planning to become a regular! read more

Their happy hour menu is to die for!!! Everything is reasonably priced ($9 and under) and was a good portion size. I came here with 2 other friends so we split 4 appetizers and it was enough to make us full! There's even a little bakery at the back of the restaurant and their cheesecakes are so fresh and delicious! I honestly have zero complaints about the food. Everything was worth the penny. The only downside is the parking, it can get full pretty fast and if you can't parallel park then you might find yourself waiting a while for a parking spot to open up. read more

Went here on 12/3 for a dinner reservation at 7pm. The hostess seemed a little overwhelmed but she quickly sat us in the middle of the outdoor dining area (not sure if we had a choice to go inside or not, but it would've been nice if she asked). It was pretty cold and it appeared half the heaters were either off or broken. Two different guys greeted us and introduced themselves as our server. We eventually ordered drinks, which were good, just a very heavy pour! After ordering drinks, our server disappeared for about 20 minutes. When we were finally able to catch him we placed our order. After a while, someone brought out 2/4 meals. And about 5-10 minutes later the other 2 came out. The tacos were sub-par and both of my friends barely picked through them and left them on their plates. The vegan wrap was okay. Not much flavor - mainly just lettuce and a few tofu chunks. The goat cheese croquettes were also extremely bland and room temperature. To end the meal, my friend ordered the eclair. After over 30 minutes of waiting, we finally received it and it was NOT worth the wait. It tasted like it had been freezer burnt and left to sit out and thaw. Overall, we were extremely disappointed with the food and service. We came here to celebrate my birthday and the server never acknowledged it once, nor did I receive any special "treat" at the end of the meal. The server also failed to check in after receiving our meals and gladly took the two full taco plates to the trash after clearing the table.. didn't ask if they were ok or offer to comp them or anything. The horchata was delicious, and they had a live band playing on a Friday night. The tables are adequately spaced, and staff all wear their masks properly. Music was pretty loud even from the back, so it might not be a great first date spot, but perfect for hanging out and chilling. This is a really nice spot for coffee and food items. The main ordering area is really nice and welcoming. They have a nice display of wines, coffee beans, and snack items on display. They also have a good selection of food items to order from. The bar also looks good with a nice selection of spirits and drink options. We have ordered coffee drinks and snacks on our visits here. The coffee drinks are made perfectly, be it cold brew or cappuccinos, etc. The snack items are good too - pastries, croissants, muffins! Their coffee is good too - perfect medium roast for me :) There is decent amount of parking available in the back, but it does get busy sometimes. Latte was good as well as services. The one disappointment was my Steak and Eggs. No flavor, flat and thin. Looking at the picture they have scrolling next to the menu, it looks no where near it. It's fine. They are trying to expand into an actual restaurant (versus just a coffee shop attached to the roaster) which is great. However, needs a little fine tuning. For starters, update the prices on the menu before upgrading the register. Imagine my surprise when the total was not what I expected based on what was on the menu. The menu is an electronic board, so it's not like they would have to print new ones. It's literally in a computer. Secondly, the McDonalds chic ketchup packets need to go. I don't want to get ketchup on my hands trying to eat truffle fries. The cocktails are solid, though, and the bartenders are awesome. The service otherwise is hit or miss (mostly hit - most servers are average or better). The vegetarian options are above average. The meat stuff tends to be fine. The happy hour is longer than most and is 90% of why we come, so please don't change that! read more

You come in, place your order then decide if you'd like to dine inside or outdoors on the patio or in the sun. The versatility of the seating options is a joy! There were families, friends, solo diners you name it. You can come to converse or zone into your work using the complimentary wi-fi. The restaurant plays popular music softly. I noticed they have live music sometimes, though when I visited there wasn't a performance happening. But, I do plan to comeback to check out the music vibes. Plus, there is ample parking available. Now let's talk about the food. The food options are great. They offer your coffee shop staples as well as some Latin items. I ordered a golden latte and three tacos. They gave me my latte at the counter then I took my number grabbed a seat and waited until the server delivered my food. The latte was good it wasn't too sweet or bitter. The tacos were delightful. Each taco was full with juicy meat and toppings. The cooks did not skimp on the tacos. Plus, the temperature of my food was just right. I ordered two pork and one chicken taco. It's great that they allow you to mix up your meat selection. The one caveat is that it took at least 30 minutes for me to receive my food hence the four star rating. If you're looking for a good place to relax and enjoy a GOOD cup of coffee besides Starbucks, this is the place to go to. I ordered the Mint Drop Latte (shown in picture) first and then I ordered the Vanilla Cardamom Latte. I enjoyed both of them, but if I had to pick between the two, try the Mint Drop. The place does offer food options and alcoholic beverages. You can even buy bottles of wine here as well The place isn't all that big and it was honestly a lot of people (when I went) so it was hard to really social distance. If I had to rate their social distancing layout, I would give them a 5/10. I watched the waiter clean my table before I sat down and really was not throughly cleaned. Therefore, I recommended taking your coffee to go just to be safe. I took a star off because of this. The outdoor seating did have heaters so that was a plus Masks are mandatory if you are not sitting down. Parking is a little tight so you'll have to do some maneuvering. read more

I ordered an Iced Extra Caramel Latte with Oatmilk. A drink that costs $7, which is more than starbucks. I was given regular milk and almost no caramel. As a person with lactose intolerance this kind of negligence is disrespectful for an entire extra dollar worth of oat milk. I was so flabbergasted because I totally forgot my wallet and just ordered an ordinary mocha EVEN THOUGH they had such awesome holiday hot beverages. Luckily I was able to get the mocha through Apple Pay but I really need to go back to try the actual drinks. Besides what seems like a very robust menu of delicious beverages, the best part in my opinion is the patio. They do offer indoor seating, but they have fairly big covered patio as well as a more outside patio. My friend and I were in the "inside" patio and didn't feel any of the rain that was storming outside. And I felt pretty Covid safe. This is a great place for social distance meet ups! This was decidedly a great place to have a date after the long pandemic. Although the restaurant didn't look as much on the outside, the atmosphere inside revealed a hidden gem. My partner and I were seated outdoor next to a heater. The servers patiently accommodated us. A solo singer with his guitar was singing out some songs. We could see some folks dancing to his songs on their seats. The meals were all fantastic! Overall, it's a great night. We had sangrias, one red and other white (which was more of tropical flavors). I loved the white sangria, and my partner loved the red one. Win-win for us. NY Style Dip Tray was pleasant and lovely. We requested for gluten free alternative, and they came up with the tortilla chips, which came out all warm and fresh! Then we had Braised Beef Short Rib. Admittedly, I was skeptical, but then, delighted after the first bite. The beef was so savory and amazingly tender. We devoured it greedily. There was a lovely potato leek soup, although it's a not favorite of mine. Then came the desserts: Profiteroles and macarons. The profiteroles were great for first-time exposure. It had a lightness and creaminess of Cool Whip-like buttery substance inside of a pastry puff atop with rich chocolate sauce. There were two nicely-sized macaroons, one raspberry and other Dulce de Leche. According to my partner, they were okay. The seating can be improved. When they first opened, they did have some kinks in their service (as most places do) and the food would take FOREVER to come out. But they've greatly improved since then and especially now, I miss even waiting at the tables for our meal! During this COVID-19 period, they are open for takeout and you can always call in your order. They have a bomb breakfast sandwich - the E.A.T. is so simple, but savory! I used to enjoy getting their Mascarpone toast, which had just the right sweetness thanks to the fresh strawberries piled on top. Although the food and drinks are delicious, it's definitely way too overpriced for a cafe. Even more than nyc cafe prices, which is a tiny bit ridiculous. Atmosphere: nice on the weekdays if you want to study but avoid on weekends as a study spot. We usually go just for brunch or chatting so we don't mind but it can get pretty loud. Aside from that, beautiful cozy decor! Staff: service is fast and efficient. Will I be back? I bite the bullet with the high costs and go because of convenience of how close it is to my home! Best happy hour in the area! We love the vibes here especially when there is live music. The outdoor seating environment is excellent (well heated in the winter). Today we got the seafood paella and it's delicious, with lots of seafood! Their oysters are fresh and the drinks are tasty. The tiramisu is made perfect and is our favorite dessert here. Staying true to the Java name & band, the coffee was strong, delicious and beautifully made for me. I really enjoyed my waffles & eggs, and the huevos rancheros was a lite version of ones I previously consumed in other establishment. * . The atmosphere was fabulous, with soft music playing in the background. This place was given a friendly bistro setting with exposed brick, soft pillows, cushioned benches, and quint tables. * . I believe they serve than just a breakfast, with happy hour special and what appears to be a full service bar. With that in mind, it might be a excellent place for a early morning or early evening date. * . Having only enjoyed breakfast, it's a place I definitely plan to visit again. Everything about this place is five stars! This coffee shop is a quaint little store right off of the Rockville Pike. There is a parking lot behind the store, which allows for ample parking. The inside is charming and boutique-like. The music playlist was terrific, and the volume was not too loud. I had the huevos rancheros, with their specialty iced pumpkin maple latte. They do offer many options for dairy alternatives. The huevos rancheros was an exciting dish, but amazing. The tortilla chips underneath the eggs with beans and cheese was a match made in heaven. My husband got the French toast. It has a very different taste, but overall I thought it was terrific. They tasted very much like a churro! We will definitely be back in the future! I'm conflicted about my review here. On one hand my experience at their Kensington location has always been perfect. The pupusa's were perfect, the drink that is a mixture of Horchata and chai was perfect. I thought, why not try out the Rockville location? I placed a pick up order here for my husband's birthday and to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. We received the wrong drinks. The pupusa's were dry, overcooked and flavorless. To top it all off there was mold in the cabbage slaw that came with the pupusa's. What a waste of $30. We ended up going somewhere else to pick up food. I emailed the next day I did not receive a response. So the day after that I called them and explained the situation. The lady on the phone was extremely helpful and apologetic and shocked that there was mold on the food. She offered either a refund or for me to come pick up another order- I opted to get the order replaced and give them another try. The pupusa's were not available so she let me substitute those for different items. Imagine my shock when I came into the store and was told that I would have to pay for this replacement order. I asked why? I was told this was a replacement order instead of a refund. The woman, who I assume was the manager- told me that- yes, even though they could see mold in the picture that they don't serve rice, and there was rice in the picture (I had added the cabbage slaw on top of another food item I had at home and had to throw away the entire plate once I saw the moldy cabbage from this place) but she seemed skeptical as if I would randomly buy some moldy cabbage and blame it on them? We were going back-and-forth for quite a bit and I explained to her that I had no issue if they did not want to do a replacement order- but why did they offer to give me a refund or do so in the first place? I would not have driven all the way back here for them to go back and change their mind after I've already arrived at the restaurant and embarrass me in front of all of the other customers and make it seem like I was complaining about nothing. I would have respected them a lot more if they had been upfront and stuck to their word instead of going back-and-forth and then claiming that I was lying about moldy cabbage. After going back and forth for quite a bit she reluctantly agreed to let me take the replacement order without making me pay for it again and made it seem as if they were doing me a favor and told me to reach out the day that the issue happened- at this point I was so frustrated I just said ok..... Even though I did reach out literally the day after and received absolutely no response. I am shocked and disappointed at my experience here. If this situation was handled better I would happily recommend Java Nation. Unfortunately due to this frustrating and shocking experience I will not be returning here nor to their Kensington location. I hope they do some serious retraining in customer service because this was an extremely embarrassing and disappointing situation for me to have to literally argue to receive the customer service and resolution that I was initially offered. read more

Lovely evening last night and so nice to sit outside under cover. 10.4.21. List of issues- no one to greet you when you get to seating. Had to ask one of a very few waitstaff if open seating. No waitperson approaches you with menu or any instructions. Turns out each guest has to go inside to place and pay for order. This is a bother. Very nice waitperson delivered our food and asked if we wanted water. I ordered fall chopped salad with salmon. Salad was awful! Salmon was cooked properly. Menu advertised beets and walnuts. Beet pieces were microscopic. No walnuts and pieces of limp kale. Ordered Viognier wine and this had no taste. Final insult- two salads with salmon and one beer and one glass of wine= $75.00+ total. This can be a charming spot for food but service needs big improvement and they need a new menu. Hugely disappointed. read more
