Sat outside on a circular table with a view of MUNI's turnaround and the sand. Nearby to the beach, like across the street. My sandwich was on dutch crunch with melted swiss on top of roast beef. And of course the works, lettuce, tomatoes, onions etc. can't recall the name of the sando but it had cheddar originally. Swiss over cheddar in my opinion. The freshest oily crispy chips that you've ever seen served alongside the sandwich. Maaaan those were delicious!!! Your neighborhood cafe conveniently located a few steps away from the N line and across the street from Great Highway. We ordered the Hot Veggie and Hot Tsunami Hot Subs, under the impression that we were just at a cafe to grab a quick bite however what turned us off was how long it took the sandwiches to come out. Even then, if something takes long, you would expect the result to be grandiose, impressive, jaw-dropping but these sandwiches were alright as they also came with Sweet Maui Onion Hawaiian Kettle Style Potato Chips. If there was a choice, I would've rather paid $4 less in exchange for no chips with our sandwiches. Although advertised as hot subs, I think this just means the ingredients weren't cold cuts and that everything was assembled panini press style. The day I stopped by there were no warm coffee drinks due to some technical difficulties w the steamer and espresso machine. Despite the foggy day, I settled for the icy butterscotch cold brew. I love coming here whenever I'm going to Ocean Beach or out that way, it's a relaxed and completely different vibe than most of the city and feels like a small beach town. Java Beach Café is always busy and has a community hangout feel. The menu is kinda expensive so I tend to just stick to the coffees; they serve Lady Falcon beans. Indoors is cozy and has almost an old time coffee house feel, there is a lot of seating outside as well as a refurbished mini park across the street with seating. My brother and I discovered this little gem after weekly swimming @ the Pomeroy Pool. Nice treat after a PT swim work out. We have tried a good portion of the items on the menu to date. If you look up their website, not sure it's current w/items being offered, just a heads up. A good portion of the time, it's a great experience. The staff is really nice, so friendly and accommodating. With the times, they just had to raise their prices and start charing for potato chips. That being said, not all the sandwiches are worth $16 and $17 respectively. All the HOT sandwiches are really good, quite plentiful and worth this new price increase. Two fails (for me in the last 2 weeks were). Java Club Turkey or Chicken Breast with Crispy Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato, Avocado & Mayo on Toasted Sourdough. I ordered the Chicken breast. It was so weird. The bread was way too thick to be 3 slices. The bacon was barely existent. The avocado was a "smear" and the chicken was "huge cubes", like you would put on a salad and huge piles of lettuce. I had to deconstruct the whole sandwich, remove half the lettuce, 1 slice of bread and cut the chicken cubes into mini bite size pieces. It had absolutely no flavor. Honestly, I should have returned it and now, I will never order it again. Today I had the BLT, which I usually love but today, no bueno. There were 2 slices of bacon cut in half, 1 slice of tomato and again, too much lettuce. Again, I should have returned it, so now I won't be ordering that one again. I shall just stick w/the hot sandwiches as they are plentiful enough to become 2 meals. Probably skip the chips as last time they were stale. The salads are big enough for 2 to share. Think I will try that next. The coffee is good and strong and the homemade jam and fruit scones are too die for and sell out quickly. So call ahead if you want to ensure some are available if you are stopping by. Homemade soup is also quite good, but often needs to be rewarmed. We came to this coffee spot as we tried a different one each day. Not too far from my husband's aunt's house where we were staying and visiting with them. This is a place she recommended. The sandwich was very fresh & packed with fresh cut veggies, meat, and cheese. The pesto was a perfect touch. All meals also come with house made chips that were crisp to perfection & not too salty.
