The place itself is nice, clean, and off the beaten track - well, at least for suburbia. Have gone many times over the years but a recent visit was extremely disappointing. The mussels were just total mush. Not tasty and fresh. Frozen before hand? I don't know but consistency was bland and mush. The clams casino had to have been taken out of a box and just heated up. Food is great here! Service is hit or miss and the outdoor seating is highly recommended. I've been coming to Jarrettown hotel for years, even before they did the beautiful renovations and every time, I am happy with the food. They offer variety of food and at times, they run out of the dish so remember to not look at the menu before actually coming to this place haha the servers are always nice but the hostess/owner can be rude at times. The outdoor sitting is super nice, especially during the summer months when the weather is nice. The parking lot is huge here that's always a plus! Definitely check this place out! read more

Couldn't find our reservation. Said they would seat us anyway. Tried to seat us right beside "LIVE MUSIC". Asked to move. Only available not much further away. Colleen was an excellent waitress. Very attentive and just the best. Loud, bad music left much to be desired. Could barely converse with my dining partner. I was willing to ask him to pay her to take a long break. This live music is totally unnecessary for a small space in a restaurant where people come to relax. Food was good except lump crab on House Special was not really found. Decided to revisit after about a 2 year absence. Menu hasn't changed in 20 years except for adding a couple of pizza options & pasta dishes. An Italian restaurant that has chicken/veal Parm options but no eggplant Parm? What? Prices are ridiculous, especially for pasta. Shrimp/crab fra diablo came with 4 shrimp & a few crab buds on the plate. Cost: $27.00. Worst yet, instead of a marinara, brothy-type sauce, I am appalled that the dish was served with a thicker (I'm sure) meat sauce that is probably used for every other entree with a red sauce. Not acceptable.Some patrons are actually of Italian descent & know their food. Do better - all around. read more

Have had good experiences here in the past but I am not sure I can recommend it right now. I made reservations for large party two months in advance to find out our space was being given to another party two weeks prior to the event. Having made the reservations in person made this extra difficult. We were moved to a different room which was not what we had wanted, but it worked as I couldn't find another venue on such short notice. The food was on point yet there was an uneasy atmosphere with the manager and the staff. It went on all night. I was here for a funeral luncheon. The staff did well with accommodating a large group. We had a choice between salmon, chicken parm and a vodka pasta . All were good. The salmon was cooked nicely. The pasta with the salmon and chicken parm was bland. The vodka pasta was good. Desserts trays with mini cannolis and cheesecake bites were put on each table. They were very good. The drinks were horrible. I ordered a raspberry cosmo that tasted like straight up vodka. I asked for an additional mixer or club soda. The bartender's response- I guess not everyone can drink like me Really?! She gave me some cranberry juice and told me there was no raspberry in the Raspberry kiss Cosmo Again really?! I asked for a sangria instead. Two previous orders were a different color with fruit. Mine looked very different with no fruit. An order after mine was same as first two. What a horrific and disappointing experience. My husband made a reservation for Mother's Day brunch with our toddler. We showed up and asked to sit outside where there were a ton of open tables. They told us they can't seat us outside because we didn't make a note on open table in special requests asking for outside. We sat down inside and we were handed a dinner menu at noon. We had looked online in advance and there was an elaborate lunch menu online but apparently they only serve dinner on holidays and cannot make any exceptions (there is no indication on the website about this change). The menu is insanely overpriced and they refused to even add protein to a salad. We spoke with the manager who showed no empathy and just said we had no other choices and that the best she could do was allow us to get some protein on a salad- nothing about the experience in the first 10 minutes was enjoyable or celebratory. First day of Fall called for a sunny celebratory lunch outside, so today we headed to the Jarrettown Hotel. We were quickly seated outside and our server, Colleen, recommended a delicious Pinot Grigio for me, while my husband ordered a seasonal Old Fashioned (complete with a Luxardo cherry). We decided to order the special appetizer, hot crab dip with toasted pita and nacho chips. Served in a cast iron pan, we found the dip flavorful and with tasty chunks of crab. My husband chose the special Italian sandwich. After he had one bite, and with a big smile stated it tasted like an upscale BLT-touting the flavor sun-dried tomato laced focaccia, lightly salted prosciutto and ham, gruyere cheese all of which were balanced out with peppery arugula. I ordered the salmon (again) cooked perfectly and will be dreaming of the pesto risotto tonight. It was SO GOOD! The cream sauce that accompanied the salmon was the perfect pairing. I am usually nervous ordering salmon, but have never been disappointed ordering it here. The service was exemplary-friendly and attentive. The kind of service that keeps you coming back. We ended our meal with the hot toll house cookie with creamy vanilla ice cream and fudge and caramel sauce. Sorry I didn't get a picture, we ate it too fast. Went there on Sunday night, sat on the porch which was nice. We ordered a Caesar salad ($10.00) which we split, the scallops and shrimp ($24.00) and that evenings special which was Halibut and only water to drink. The bill came to $98.00 (with tax). So ($60.00 special). Buyer beware!! To be honest I didn't review the bill before I signed and left and later that night it hit me that that was an exorbitant amount for 2 entrees and a salad. A TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE The facts: * Upon being seated, the server greeted us and told us the specials. * Minutes later she returned, and we provided her with our order. The order consisted of a Caesar salad as an appetizer and broiled fish entrees. Nothing out of the ordinary. * After taking our order, we were completely ignored. The server failed to refill our water glasses. * We patiently waited as we watched service being provided to other guests. * We waited over forty-five minutes before we received the appetizer and entrees. They were served simultaneously by two other servers, not the original server. * I complained about the appetizer and entrees being served simultaneously. General Manager Lauren Sands said she would take the fish entree back to the kitchen, while I eat the Caesar salad. * After eating the Caesar salad and waiting a good twenty minutes, I finally received my entrée. It was cold and poorly cooked. The staff seemed overwhelmed and disorganized. Furthermore, they were rude, discourteous, and inattentive. General Manager Sands is abrasive, arrogant, and abrupt. She is in desperate need of interpersonal skills training. Jarrettown claims to be an upscale restaurant. From the above experience, one will conclude it is far from achieving such a status. Ordered the beet salad with goat cheese and shrimp. Like a previous review - more like a lettuce salad. A few pieces of beet. The kicker was the number of shrimp. I saw they were $20 and I knew that was outrageous, but it was my dinner entry so I decided to go with it. I was completely floored when it arrived with four - yes four shrimp!!!!! I didn't say anything because we were with friends we hadn't seen since the pandemic started and didn't want to put a damper on the evening. Still craving shrimp, the next night I ordered a shrimp dish from our favorite Chinese restaurant Jasmine in Glenside and it came packed with jumbo shrimp for much less money than the Jarrettown shrimp alone. There is no justification for changing that but it's my fault for ordering them and not complaining. It's a shame. The outside dining space was nice and the others at my table seemed okay, but I don't think I can go back. I felt like I was swindled. read more

I have been coming to Jarrettown for years with my family and nearly every Friday for the past 2 years. The service and food are amazing! Lauren is the best, my kids love her, she is extremely attentive and knows our family so well! Nikki is also awesome! We frequently see a lot of the same diners and talk to many of the other patrons whom we regularly see who also love Jarrettown. The atmosphere at Jarrettown is cozy, friendly, warm; it feels like home. We especially love the bolognese, the house special and their veal Marsala! read more

Had wonderful dinner with my wife and son at Jarrettown. The service was incredibly quick for both drinks and entrees. The menu has an excellent selection and accommodates different diets. Our server was very courteous and friendly. I really enjoy the ahi tuna while my wife had the gnocchi with vodka sauce. They make an excellent dirty gin martini. It's a place I feel comfortable bringing a young child as it's very family friendly. All in all a great Sunday night dinner and reasonable price. read more

To say our night was amazing would be an understatement! As we celebrated with our family for a milestone birthday, we could not be more grateful for the waitstaff's attentive and welcoming spirit. The calamari was fantastic and you cannot miss out on the lobster bisque! Our group mostly enjoyed the Grouper and it was a crowd favorite! We also enjoyed the House Special pasta. I can't believe I haven't written a review Jarrettown yet! We've been coming here for years and we love the food, staff, and atmosphere. They do a great happy hour, have live music on Friday and Saturday nights, a pretty extensive kids menu, and patio seating. Last week I realized I hadn't planned anything yet for dad's 80th birthday, and I didn't have the time or energy to do the work of a party at home on a weeknight. I filled out the event inquiry form on Jarrettown's website and received a prompt response with availability, info, and suggestions. We were only a group of 10-15 people, but didn't really want to do a sit down dinner in the restaurant because we had a couple of small kids who need to move around and we generally prefer cocktail style anyway. The event coordinator (Lauren) was so helpful in providing us options for where in the restaurant we could have our party so that we could have the type of event we (and my dad) wanted. On the evening of the party everything went smoothly, the room looked great, food was excellent, and service was perfect. We all had a wonderful time. I highly recommend this restaurant for dining, events, and even just grabbing drinks at the bar! read more

Had a 6pm reservation for four people. Two of us arrived just before 6pm, 2 others a few minutes later. The hostess refused to seat us until the full party arrived. There was plenty of tables available for indoor dining which is where we were headed. That's the first gripe. We all ordered salads. Do yourself and don't order a salad because you will get lots of lettuce. Three of the salads were beet/goat cheese salads with either shrimp or crab meat atop. One of us had a piece of beet in her salad. There was a tablespoon or two of crabmeat. We also were given the wrong salad dressing on the side. When we asked the waitress for the correct salad dressing and commented on the lack of beets and crab meat, she went back to the kitchen and came back with a small bowl of beets and a small bowl of crab. She snickered that the crab meat is $5.00/portion. That salad was $25.00 to start and was mostly lousy lettuce. Do yourself a favor and don't order salads because you will get mostly lettuce and a bad attitude. read more

Let's start here. Originally my sister had tried to book a reservation for my nieces birthday via open table. She'd booked well in advance but could only book for 6 due to open table restrictions. She'd immediately called and asked for the reservation to be expanded to 8 and explained the situation with open table. She was taken back by the treatment and unprofessional attitude she'd received in response. Very rude and aggressive treatment by a person named Bill, who'd called himself the manager. We arrived at the Jarrettown, which we'd eaten at over numerous sporadic occasions before and after Renovations as we are local to the establishment. The restaurant, as always looked appealing. we'd ordered beverages and enjoyed conversation. We'd waited a long time for our drinks and when they'd arrived they were not correct. Specifically the fact that an old fashioned was ordered and a Manhattan was delivered. So even though the drinks took 40 minutes at a restaurant that was not be any means crowded and were not correct, we'd given a pass as we are well aware of staffing issues at hand. No big deal. Not to mention, we shouldn't have been charged for said drink but there were no concessions offered. We'd ordered food which had also taken a long time and was less then stellar. When the bill had come there was an issue with one of the party's credit card being declined. No, problem, we'd divided up amongst the party and paid. Well, the manager couldn't comprehend and overcharged our party. He was very rude and abrasive and would not even discuss. He'd charged me twice and I'd asked to see the cancellation and I told there was no proof. At that point he'd told me if there was any issues to come back tomorrow and he'd pay me the difference in cash. I told him this wasn't right and I'd monitor my bank account. I'd left felling like I'd been taken but I simply had no option with the way Bill had treated me. When I'd gotten home, I'd received a call from my sister stating that the manager had incoherently called her and stated he was charging her more money after I was already overcharged twice. My sister advised that she'd only authorized the original charge to her card and that I was already overcharged. I'd then called and tried to discuss these charges with the "manager" and was insulted numerous times and the manager then rushed me off the phone. The local police were called just in order for us to file a report for our banks. I would've recommended this place two years ago but there is no way you could even pay me to eat there at this point unless the can find somebody better to manage this place because the current manager is not fit to mange an ant farm. If I was informed of his dismissal I would possibly think about it. I've eaten at many renown restaurants across the country and would rate this worst dining experience I've ever had. If you're in the area, mcDonalds down the road may give you a better dining experience. read more

We visited Jarrettown Inn last month to celebrate my son's birthday. The service was very poor. Our server, Brad was inexperienced and very unprofessional. My husband alerted him before ordering that he has an onion allergy. When the order arrived there was a raw onion was on his burger. We told this to the waiter and he replied as he flew by the table: "I didn't do it!!" and walked off without correcting it. We had to have a busboy help us. Absolutely Unacceptable. My family has been dining at Jarrettown Hotel since before I was born. I really enjoy the menu. I had one of the worst dining experiences of my life on Saturday August 29th 2020. We had a 7 PM reservation for 2 people.  We arrived at 6:55 PM and were greeted by a rude hostess with an attitude.  We were told we would be seated shortly. After some time we asked for an update on our table - at this point the hostess actually yelled at me saying that the restaurant is at 25% capacity and that we will be seated when a table becomes available. I previously hosted and could not believe her conduct. At other restaurants we have dined at during COVID we have been seated immediately as long as we had a reservation. We requested to speak with a manager and at 7:25 PM a shift manager stopped by to speak with us.  When we explained we had been waiting 30 minutes for a table, she told us that they were down a server and that she would get us seated momentarily. A little after 7:30 we were finally seated.  We were at a table that had been open for over a half hour, which was irritating.  We were very happy to be seated as we were very hungry and I was in heels. Our server was great. She was friendly and she got us our drinks and filled them up when they got low.  We loved having live music.  Our food was wonderful. We absolutely loved the clams casino.  The shift manager popped over and asked if the server had stopped by. We told her she had and thanked her. Seemed like the night was turning around. Then it was time for us to pay the bill.  The server took our card and then we waited and waited and waited.  We realized they clearly lost the book.  Our server asked if we were waiting on her, which we said yes, waiting for our card.  Later another waitress asked what we were waiting on.  Then the shift manager asked if we were waiting for our check.  At this point everyone seemed to be looking for our card.  Finally after around 20 minutes of waiting a busboy literally slammed the book in front of us and stared at us without a word or even a smile.  I was stunned.  I couldn't believe how rude he was. We didn't even know how to tip on the service, but we decided to err on the side that our server didn't purposely lose the book. She treated us great other than the bill so we tipped her well.  Other then the waitress and our food the night was a disaster. The experience made me very sad because this was my boyfriend's first time dining at the Jarrettown Hotel, and now, understandably,  he doesn't want to return. He said he didn't want to spend his money at a restaurant that treated him poorly when there are so many wonderful dining options in the area that treated him well: The Spring House Tavern, Blue Bell Inn, The Farmers Daughter, William Penn Inn, Joseph Ambler Inn etc. Due to this experience for the first time ever I wrote the restaurant directly. I recently had a small surprise Birthday Luncheon for my boy friend. It couldn't have been nicer. The current new managers, Lauren and Kathy, were role models to the staff. The staff was so patient and kind. The service was excellent. The food was delicious! My guests ordered off the menu and certain dietary modifications were graciously accommodated. The hospitality was amazing. I was told that my guests could stay as long as they wanted. The guests were so happy with the atmosphere, food and beverages they stayed for four hours. I read more

I have lived in this area for 26 years and loved this restaurant. I would go for dinner with my husband, family and friends or maybe just me and the girls for happy hour at the bar. My husband developed early on set dementia and he lost his battle this past October. He was diagnosed January of 2018. Way too soon and I miss him dearly. Prior to his diagnosis, he was very active with bowling, basketball, Grav Maga and marshal arts; not to mention our 8 wonder grandchildren and their activities. Hi buddies, too many to list, would pick him up every two months or so and take him to the Jarrettown Inn as it was close by and he and his friends enjoyed the atmosphere and the especially the food!. They took my hubby out this past June for his birthday. My husband's dementia had become difficult by this time. But his family and friends stood by him, proudly. They sat outside and the waitress asked my honey to wear a mask; he didn't like masks due to his dementia (and they were seated sat outside.) I heard from his great buddies, family and friends that the owner came out to inquire why David was not wearing his mask (mind you they were outside). His family and friends explained the situation to the owner about David and his Dementia. And, I quote the owner said "I don't give a f..ck about your friend's problem. They were shocked and needless to say, finished their meal, sang Happy Bday to my love and left. They will never go back again and either will I after the owner treated my ill husband that way. I implore everyone in the area to do the same. The owner does not deserve your or my patronage. Was dropping off my wife for a bridal shower party at noon on a Saturday, somehow ended up staying..... Service was excellent. There was only a handful of other customers the entire time, so hopefully they maintain that level of service with a full house. Staff did a great job keeping everyone happy. Water was constantly refreshed and the food came out quickly and consistently. I didn't hear any complaints from anyone. I had the Jarrettown Burger and fries and the wife had the Chicken Caprese sandwich. Both were absolutely delicious and very filling. I'm super picky about my burgers, and this one met my expectations. It was plump and juicy, cooked to exact order at medium-rare. The bun was lightly toasted and buttery. I will say I am a little deterred by the menu prices. The burger is $15. I won't be coming here regularly just to eat. These are like 4-star hotel prices, not Jarrettown Hotel prices. read more

Stopped in here 2 times in the last month and both times the service was excellent, and the food-the food was amazing. My last trip in was last week with my mother and a family friend- I had a pan seared Chilean Sea Bass over a corn risotto and wine glaze-it was AMAZING. It was so good I was sad each bite I took as I knew it was one less to enjoy later! My only gripe was it was very humid inside and the air seemed like it was off and only fans were running. Haven't been here for a couple of years. A friend and I had lunch yesterday. As requested, we were seated outside in an umbrella shaded courtyard, very pleasant and quiet. We shared a chicken pesto sandwich with fries and a margherita pizza. Food was excellent and very nicely served. Service was excellent. The old inn is beautiful and since it's walkable from our homes (even though we drove), we'll be back. Overall an excellent lunch, nice portion sizes, and very fairly priced.
