We had a great dinner at Ristorante Toscano last week. A group of six of us, all friends in a local dine out group, enjoyed the food and the music. Sharon, our host, was very good at getting out the food quickly and making sure all our needs were taken care of. This is a really family owned restaurant and you can see that in the preparation of the food. It tasted fresh and was seasoned perfectly. Other times I have dined there with friends with specific food needs and they are ready to take care of their needs without question. The piano player normally does not come in on Thursday night but he did for us and the music was lovely but kept at at tone that we could still converse. We will be coming back again! read more

Sorry but this place is a bit sad. Worn out and worn down, the decor is lacking. The food is ok and service is quite good. Eggplant parm was good, chicken marsala watery with little flavor. We had a table for 10 adults. We had the antipasto, roasted peppers, and the fried calamari for appetizers. Very good. For entrees we had veal, eggplant, flounder, and the lobster ravioli. They were all very good. The byob is a nice benefit if you are a wine drinker. Debbie did a great job getting the ice bucket, new glasses for the champagne, and keeping the water glasses full. Kudos to her. Parking at the Sunoco was a little inconvenient, but it wasn't raining. read more

This is the second time I dined at this Italian BYOB restaurant. I recommend this as Lansdale's little secret , when it comes to fine dining! complete with white linen tablecloth and a live keyboard player to serenade you. The food did not disappoint and the couple with us raved about this cuisine. There were "Specials" to accompany the regular large menu, and the homemade desserts were excellent! the prices were also a pleasant surprise. read more

It really isn't hard for a place to do better than the Olive Garden considering it's a over salted chain restaurant, but this place made me wish we'd gone there instead. My wife and I were literally the only people in there for the entirety of our meal. We ordered the grilled fig appetizer stuffed with Gorgonzola and wrapped with prosciutto. First, not grilled, definitely microwaved and microwaved prosciutto is some gross garbage. You could tell these were stuffed and wrapped up before freezing them then microwaved when ordered. Gross. So we thought we'd play it safe and just get pasta. My wife got the lasagna and I got the tortellini. I've attached pictures of them both because... what is this? Also hearing the microwave beep before everything that comes out of what you thought was going to be some fresh made Italian food is a bit of a disappointment. Toscano's is the hole-in-the-wall joint that you would never drive by and say hey, "Let's eat there", but that's why you eat here. Nicole, our waitress, is a classic, the food was great and the atmosphere was like an old Italian joint in Italy where the mob bosses link up to discuss who they have to take care of next. I had ordered a chicken parmigiana for take out. As I was about to open up the door, to walk in, I saw from the outside of the glass door to the kitchen and witnessed the owner had dropped my chicken parmigiana on the floor after he cooked it. I saw him scoop it off the floor and place iit in my take out container. I then turned around and went home without my meal or even going in. If I could give negative stars I would. Let me begin by saying I have had at least 5 great meals here but last night my wife and I went with a group of friends for dinner and the food was atrocious. The appetizers came out after nearly an hour with no salad dressing on the salads, breading on the calamari was falling off (it is was on there at all). The main course was equally interesting as it took another hour for that to come out and the chef managed to butcher every dish. I did not bring my tape measure but I'm confident in saying that the bottom my veal had an 1/8" of black burnt goodness which made it impossible to cut even with even a knife. The Lobster Ravioli special came out in soup bowls and looked more like a vodka sauce surprise - the surprise being if you actually found a ravioli. I can't even describe how they cooked the scallops other than to say they looked deep fried and that does not even do it justice. The highlight of the evening was when the chef came out and said that this was not Olive Garden and it takes time to prepare food then slung deserts on the table. read more

I came here after walking past this restaurant 100 times and getting a good review from my neighbor. I couldn't have been more disappointed. First I'd like to say that our waitress was excellent, very nice and when we told her we were disappointed with our food she seemed genuinely surprised at our reactions. My fiancé ordered to stuffed veal cutlet with vegetable and potatoes. The plate came out looking like a hungry man dinner. Not what you would expect for $30. Over cooked and over salted. might as well have been chicken it was so dry. I had the linguini with clams and it was ok. It was pasta with what seemed like canned clams. Very weird experience and I would not recommend this place to anyone. I believe it was the owner that waited on us, as there was no one else there. When we walked in, there was no one in sight. A man came out of the kitchen and said something about needing to put on a shirt (he was wearing a dirty undershirt). He came out with water (with the undershirt on) and the water had stuff floating in it. We ordered a salad to split. The salad was fine. It was supposed to have antipasto, but it was just lunch meat. After finishing almost all of it, we noticed a date sticker in it. Not a big deal, but also just not that appetizing. I ordered the veal. It was way overpriced. It was a small breaded plain cutlet. Luckily I asked for pasta when I ordered, otherwise I'm not sure it came with anything else. My mom ordered seafood pasta which was fine, but also overpriced for the serving size. It came in like a soup bowl. The waiter/cook kept coughing/clearing his throat, which was also very unappealing. All in all, I would choose somewhere else to eat. The food is fine, but way overpriced. The decor looks kind of dusty as well, so I'm not sure how clean this place is either. We were visiting family in the area, and at the time this restaurant had 5 stars on Yelp. I have no idea how that happened. read more

Came here for the feast of the seven fishes and was absolutely blown away--I'm not a fan of anchovies or eggplant, but the anchovy pasta and the eggplant parm were my favorite dishes. We went for lunch last week and I'm ready to give them a five! We were the only people in the restaurant, which made sense since we took an extra late lunch at around 2 PM. By that time we were STARVING! We walked in and seated ourselves and were immediately greeted and brought bread and had our drink orders taken by John. He made and brought our food quickly and with friendly conversation about a piece of abstract art he saw me notice. I had the Caprese salad (still SO good) and fell in love with the spinach and mozzarella garlic bread. I can't remember what my husband had, but I remember that he loved it! When John brought the check, we spent a while talking about different cheeses and how they're made and stuff, and then we were on our way, full of a great, homemade lunch for a MORE than reasonable price. Finally, ONE restaurant that knows how to set a proper table! Bathroom is in desperate need of updating. Gnocchi good, but not enough of it. Drowned in meat sauce/gravy. Mousse was made fresh but then put in the freezer. The effects of being frozen distracted from its good taste. Table extremely small. Piano player hit some clunkers. Having a piano player was a nice change from the "boxed" music of Frank Sinatra touted a "Italian music." Balsamic vinaigrette was good. Had a sweetness to it that seemed like maple syrup. Chef came out and chatted with two tables, nobody else. I find that ignorant. If you're going to come out, unless you know the people at those two tables (obviously he did not) don't ignore the other people. Unless you can spend a few minutes with everyone, don't come out. Wait staff was nice. I liked the "team" atmosphere. Our waiter was pre-occupied so another waiter filled our water glasses. There was no pettiness between them, the second waiter just saw the glasses needed filling and did it. It was no nice not dealing with BS. Thank you for that. read more

I am torn - the food is 4 stars but there are too many other things that need attention - mostly decor-wise - like dust-covered bread plates and a dining room that needs a makeover, stat. The business has been around for 11 years and is clearly family run. Shrimp scampi was very basic - but good. I asked for it light on the sauce (oil/garlic) so that was a good move. Frittata for lunch is a good and tasty value. Bread was cold and dry (and sitting on the table waiting for us). Not great. I can cook alot of these things at home just as well. I am so happy that I discovered this little cozy Italian restaurant! I live about 20 minutes away and now I can say that I will come here more often. They had piano guy playing this weekend (i think it's every weekend) the server was very very nice and she explained the specials very well and in a way that made me want to order everything. The food was very fresh and tasty and at the end I had a cup of hot coffee which was a perfect ending to a perfect night! Will definitely be back! read more

While my husband wanted to go to yet another chain restaurant, I was able to convince him to try a local eatery! Wow!!! The burst of flavor in my mouth.... I enjoyed the basia with fruit, roasted potatoes and mixed veggies. My husband had the best veal parmigiano EVER! Went to this BYOB a few months ago for dinner. The place is nice inside with lots of art hanging on the walls though the layout makes the place feel a bit cramped. Our server was very pleasant. Being a BYOB they do that trick that many restaurants of this type do to get around the liquor license is that they offer a complimentary glass of wine to everyone at the table, which I think is a great idea. I love when BYOBs do this. My wife and I both had salads and pasta for our dinners as well as the complimentary glasses of wine. The salad and complimentary wine and bread were both very good. However, the pasta we got for dinner was a little disappointing for two reasons. First, neither of us were impressed by the overall taste of the food. We ordered different dinners and it was decent enough Italian food, but we agreed that both our dishes were missing that WOW factor. We both concluded that we've had much tastier food at Olive Garden. To me, a small Italian place like this should blow away a chain restaurant. The second thing that disappointed us was the portions. I mean, we paid about $14 for each of our meals and we were a bit shocked when it came out in such small bowls. We're talking the size that you would serve ice cream or soup in. No Lie. We both thought it seemed like a lunch size or 1/2 serving, at least for the price. I really wanted to like this place more. The place is nice enough and while we didn't hate it for us the taste of the food and the portions just weren't up to par with other restaurants of this type. We waited for over an hour and a half from the time we ordered to the time we got our main entrees. No appetizers were ordered. Only a couple salads. We also did not order anything very complicated. Shrimp Scampi over linguini and chicken Marsala. The shrimp were the toughest I've ever had. Obviously had been sitting under the heat lamps for a long time. Well since my first review I've become hooked. We've come out every other month or when the budget allows us to. I love the cook, John Bruno, he is a super nice guy and a great cook. Our favorite night out was when these two former opera singers sang! They each did one song and a duet and yes, I cried. It was so moving and I couldn't help but tear up- my daughter did too (she's 23) so I wasn't the only one! ha. That was a nice treat but not overkill either. Just enough to entertain us out of the blue. On occasion they have a piano player and I love that. So, a great menu, great prices, wonderful owners that will cater or suggest if you have diet issues and if you're lucky, a bit of Italian song on the side. Very cozy little BYOB. Food was fantastic. Great specials and our waitress told us if we didn't see something we liked (impossible) to ask. They were very accommodating when I asked to swap veal for chicken. Portions were good. They have a large choice of homemade desserts. The service was fantastic. The two waitresses that took care of us were funny and sweet and answered every question we had. We picked this place because it was middle ground to meet friends of ours. Potential to be a great local BYO with great service and extensive menu but there were fundamental issues with the food. Balsamic calamari was tough and rubbery. Pasta sauce had no taste and the linguine with clams promised garlic but again was tasteless. Too many specials to chose from and most attractive main courses were priced above $32 to $40. The biggest issue was the pasta. It was not fresh and tasted like a generic grocery store box. Bread was fresh and desserts looked great but everything in between was disappointing. read more

We went there for Mother's Day dinner. The outside of the restaurant is rather dirty and nondescript. A pot of flowers outside would do wonders for this restaurant. We were seated right away. There were only 2 other tables occupied with diners. Our waiter was very pleasant and helpful. The food was excellent, except that the one entree was minuscule. The bread that was served was wonderful. The espresso was good, but only luke warm. The deserts were great. We had some kind of puff pastry, and a german cheese cake/strudel cake. We used a restaurant.com coupon (which was very helpful) but the bill was still a little steep. All in all, a nice place, but not one that I would return to. If they lower their prices a little, I would consider returning. read more

I went to lunch with a friend as we entered the restaurant we were met by the chef( I think looking at the food covered T-shirt). He was very friendly and asked us where would we like to sit "sit anywhere, maybe you would like to sit at the window. Sure I replied". As I was looking around and waiting for our menus I noticed a fruit fly, then two, now five!! Then came the house flies, oh no!! When the chef came back he had changed his shirt, a white shirt with stains on it. He handed us menus and I opened mine up and it too was dirty! I wasn't sure if I should stay at this point but maybe the food would make up for all this. As we were waiting for our food the fruit flies kept us busy...killing them but to no avail more kept coming. I ordered Chicken Marsala, the sauce was very runny and the chicken was under cooked, my friend order Shrimp Scampi that only had 3-4 shrimp in it. We both though the pasta was perfectly done. Our chef/waiter/servicer was sweet, kind and most apologetic about the chicken as he noticed I didn't eat much of it. I told him I though the chicken wasn't done all the way. Again very sweetly he apologized and told me that he wasn't going to charge me for my meal. NICE!! I did use the bathroom and I wish the whole restaurant was that clean! So had a client meeting here, and there are good and bad things about this place, during the week, it is very slow, we were literally the only table in the place and we were there for a couple hours. The waiter was very nice and polite, which was a plus. The place is quiet, although when it's empty all places are quiet, and it's a bit old school which is nice. There are no TVs or anything so it has an old school feel to it. The bread is a nice portion but lacks any real great flavor or taste, it's not warmed or crispy or crunchy, it's just kind of there. The biggest issue is my father and I both ordered a pasta entree with gnocchi and I have to say we were both disappointed. The gnocchi's were WAY overcooked and very mushy to the point they were barely edible. I only had a few bites of mine and wasted the rest of it, so I left the place still feeling kind of hungry. If you specialize in Italian and there is no one else in your restaurant, your food should be cooked perfectly and our food was definitely not made correctly. So while the service was nice, and I'd probably be willing to try the place again, I do have to say as first impressions go, I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of the food. read more
