This is most likely the BEST Chinese food meal I've ever had. This is coming from someone who eats Chinese food at least twice a week in various places from the Bronx, Queens, Manhattan, other places in Long Island and Brooklyn. I 4 times had to take chewed food out of my mouth. Then one horrible egg roll ,cold . Room temperature salad and swimming in dressing. Egg drop wonton I swear it came to me cold. Sesame chicken, must of been from McDonald's next door OMG fatty and must of been pre made. We all said,l let's not order anything else but the fried rice should be ok. Visited Jani this past Fri evening. Ive ordered takeout from here long before with mixed results but this was the first visit to dine in. Seems like the quality of food has been on the decline over the years. I came here with a friend for dinner and here are the things i noticed: THE GOOD: 1: Friendly host 2: The fried dumplings were pretty good 3: Great location, spacious restaurant, plenty of windows THE BAD: 1:Serving staff has no charm, enthusiasm or ability to relate with the customer. 2:Outdated broken furniture (seat backs were broken and cushions old and flat) that seemed dirty and disgusting. Very uncomfortable to sit on this old furniture. They desperately need to take care of this asap!! 3: Every dish that we were served had chips and spider cracks in it. Glasses and silverware look like they've been around the block a few too many times. This actually kills the whole dining experience. Who wants to eat off of disgusting stained silverware and chipped plates? 4: The entire dining room needs a major revamp!! 5: Main courses were not very good. Chicken was very tough, sauce was thick and tasteless and everything is garnished heavily. Soup was just ok.. For whatever reason, my takeout is usually somewhat better but like i said, mixed results. 6: Empty dining room (apparently we didn't get the memo). I wont return to Jani to dine in. Also this recent visit has made me think twice on ordering their takeout. When you see such obvious things going on in the dining room, one can only imagine whats happening behind closed doors. no,no,no...this place is just no. fiance and i went here last night after a long day because i was craving wonton soup. i had been to the location in rockville center in the past, so i figured id give this one a try. the answer is no. upon entering you feel instintanously like you are transported to 1982. The booths are cracked and run down and the atmosphere is the type of nostaligic that you dont want to experience lol. the soup came out cold, and the dumplings were mushy and on a dirty plate. the dinner was just OK i would not order it again if by some odd reason i decided to go back. the two stars are for the manager who is hospitable, amiable and just a nice welcoming man. he seems very involved in the restaurant and very concerned with what you think, which was about the only thing that i liked. read more

Finding a Chinese restaurant that doesn't have typical takeout food (ala brown sauce) is quite difficult. My family and I wanted to try a new Chinese restaurant and decided to give this one a try after we abandoned our attempt at the nearby Red Lobster that had a 2 hour wait time. Parking was a breeze. We were promptly seated, despite the place being fairly busy. The owner personally greeted us and was very charming and friendly. The food was quite decent and came within 10-15 minutes. We ordered flounder, spicy beef and peppers, stir fried pork and dried tofu, beef and scallion hot plate, and corn and egg drop soup. It started quite getting busy later on and the waiter wasn't as attentive. However, the speed of the service, friendliness, price, and overall taste was pretty good. Willing to return. read more

We discovered Jani several years by accident. We generally eat from the standard Chinese-American menu, while adding shrimp and chicken dumplings. I like the plum wine and Sushi. The food is always tasty and fresh. The owner, Alex and the staff are warm and friendly Update We went there for the 2019 Chinese New Year celebration. It was totally disappointing. A few weeks prior to the celebration we were there for lunch. We decided to try their New Year celebration which included some form of entertainment. Our server asked for a deposit toward the Chinese New Year celebration which would be deducted from the celebration bill. Well, the celebration "entertainment" consisted of some guy loudly pounding a drum, a group of men taking Tai Kwan Do moves and the same men dancing around the restaurant in a lion or tiger outfits. The seating was uncomfortable and the food was from the standard menu which we do not have any issues with. Now comes the fun. I showed the server the deposit receipt and asked her to reduce the bill. She said that the deposit was for the entertainment and this an additional fee. I told her that's not what we told. I spoke to the owner about the phony deposit and he confirmed what the server had said. I decided not to argue and never to return. read more

It's a shame so many reviewers have bad things to say. We've eaten here and ordered out 100+ times and the quality of food and service has always been good. When you dine in, the owner always makes sure your needs are met and want exceed. I have family who drive from queens to come join us at dinner. Also their take out is awesome always. Egg rolls sometimes greasy but food is very good and consistent. We like their apps as well as entrees and the only bad thing is they charge extra for fried rice so the meal gets more expensive. But they do give freebies each order and you can pay by phone. Give this place a try! read more

Sushi was a 3, I've had better at the buffet, like a normal Chinese buffet. And the soup dumplings didn't even have soup in them. The shells all had holes so they were dried out. All the warning signs were there mixing soup dumplings with sushi. I should of known better. Two other tables also complained about there food being cold. Don't ever eat here. read more

Have been going to this restaurant for years!!! Absolutely love this place. Food is always good, not exceptionally oily (which I'm partial to), and the sushi has ALWAYS been of wonderful quality! I work nearby the restaurant, thought this place was a good lunch choice for the price range of the food. The first two times were okay, considering you get what you paid for. I was recommending this place to my coworkers, and it was absolutely the worse decision ever. The last time when I ordered from there, they messed up my order twice and gave me someone else's orders. On the top of that, the entrees we ordered were NOT FRESH AT ALL. We ordered beef, chicken and pork dishes, they all have the rotten smell when we opened the boxes! We tried to call them explaining the situation and all they did was asking us to bring the orders back have them investigate it. Delicious food, Amazing service! I have been a Parton for 20 years and have never been disappointed. JANI has always been my favorite Chinese restaurant for eat in or take-out. I recently hosted an event, a bridal shower and was just blown away by the quality of the service, food and by how beautifully the room was arranged for us. I received the highest praise and complements on the venue & food from some very picky guests. In addition to how friendly and attentive to detail our host Alex was, I was also amazed by his efforts to help us make the event affordable. The amount we got for the price could not be beat. I am actually quite in awe considering all of the negative reviews I have seen concerning this restaurant. I eat here quite frequently with my dad and we don't have many bad things to say about our experiences. The service is excellent and it is relatively clean. The only thing is that it is pretty out of date. But considering how good the food and service is I couldn't care less! I am a very picky eater yet they still have things that I like here.
