We had a clogged drain on our kitchen sink. I rang our regular plumber but he doesn't cover rotor rooting, however he suggest James Alexander and promised they would do a good job at a competitive rate. He was right! I called and managed to get them to fit me in that day inbetween other jobs. They arrived on time, were very friendly, did the job quickly while explaining to my husband what they were doing (the blockage was only about 6ft into the drain but they cleared it through to the street for us to make sure there weren't any other clogs) and tidied up after themselves too. I suggested they take a look at our bathroom drain which is clogged with hair (yes we have someone with long thick hair in the family and it is always clogging the bath/shower) but they said what my husband was already doing was the best way to attack it and keep it under control. They could have just gone ahead and charged us more but they were honest. $125 later and they were off to their next job, promising if we had any further trouble with the drain in the next few weeks they would be right around to fix it at no further cost. However, I don''t think this will be a problem. I'd definitely recommend them and will be using them again in the future if I have clogged drains. read more

So glad we found James Alexander (from yelp). Due to the recent heavy rain we found out our outdoor area drains were completely clogged and our patio/backyard started flooding. James came promptly when he said he would, was extremely nice to my wife and did a good job clearing out the drains. There were some areas that needed extensive work (digging up, etc) and James was honest and candid about what he recommended doing (which by the way, he recommend going through someone other than him for that job b/c of costs). James Alexander Plumbing is a dying breed -- it is rare to find a repair service that you can actually trust, but with James Alexander you will be in good hands. If you are looking for an honest, knowledgeable plumber in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Simi Valley, Camarillo, Ventura, Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Woodland Hills, or San Fernando Valley, you will be hard-pressed to find someone better. James saved us almost $2,000 on a majorly clogged sewer line (tree roots), based on two other bids we got. We'd already had another plumbing company out to fix the problem, twice, but they were unable to resolve the issue and wanted $2300 to install a cleanout and try again. We then contacted James Alexander Plumbing for another opinion. James came out right away and did not charge us extra for coming out on a Sunday night. He was very prompt for all visits, and worked with us to schedule evening appointments so that we didn't have to take off any time from work. He listened to us about what had already been done, and used that information in diagnosing the problem, instead of making us pay for additional inspections and needless repair attempts. He didn't even charge us for snaking the drain line from inside one more time, because we weren't sure whether it would fix the problem and didn't want to pour more money down the drain if it didn't work (we had already spent $300 on the other plumbers' failed attempts to fix the problem). Where can you find service like that?? James always kept OUR best interests in mind, not his bottom line, and fixed our problem for about $400 by thinking outside the box and a willingness to work with us (my boyfriend dug the trench to expose the drainage pipe). James was spot-on with his advice and recommendations and was able to solve the problem in three visits, giving us a temporary solution to provide some relief for a few days until we could repair the problem, and also fixing a couple of minor things along the way (which the other plumbers ignored), so that we wouldn't have more problems in the future. James Alexander Plumbing is now our go-to plumber, and I hope that he will be able to continue offering his services at such reasonable prices. We are only sorry that we didn't call him first! I like the sense that he was looking after my bottom line, for instance, explaining the cost-benefit of periodically servicing a working tankless heater, vs. waiting until it breaks and buying a new one (the better option.) He has parts on hand such as valve stems, saving extra trips and delays. Right before the holidays, I had a kitchen sink line that was draining slow and would back up into my kitchen sink and garage sink. This line was connect to our dishwasher and laundry washer line that was located in the garage as well. I originally had another plumber out to snake the line. He worked on it for 45mins but said I had a broken line. I was a bit suspicious since it looked like this other plumber was using a blunt end to go "fishing" as James calls it...lol. Needless to say, I was not looking forward to shedding out $7-10K to replace my lines that run under my house and this was what the other plumber said he would do. Like going to the doctor, I called on James for a 2nd opinion. He showed up on time and did a great job walking through the issue, asking questions and laying out his plan of attack. He was generally interested in fixing the problem without doing unnecessary work that would hit my pocket. 30 minutes from starting he had unclogged my line and even helped me with another small issue. He also has a 30-day warranty just in case the line somehow clogs again. Needless to say, I'll be calling James from now on! read more

OMG...!!! I called to have a sewer drain cleaned out on a late Friday afternoon. Expecting no answer or a very high fee for the service. I was pleasantly surprised that James was available and his fee for the service was very reasonable for the situation. James arrived on time as promised with his helper and proceed to review his options. He was very professional and easy going. James was able to take care of the problem with ease very quickly. James even took off his shoes before entering my bedroom where the problem occurred, what tradesmen actually does this! I thought that he is very considerate and consciousness about his service. James repaired out bathtub drain in expert fashion. During the job he actually sliced his finger open with a sharp tool. He and his assistant were going to leave the job to visit an urgent care center (understandable) since he was bleeding and likely needed stitches. They left our house and a couple of minutes later came back saying that they wanted to finish the job first. He proceeded to wrap his finger with gauze and duct tape, then finished the job. We greatly appreciated his work ethic and professionalism. In addition, he charges a very fair price and worked very quickly. I highly recommend James for all of your plumbing needs. read more

We had a serious drain blockage that another company could not remedy with two separate crews. James was a recommendation from our regular plumber who no longer does drain opening jobs. We used James on a number of occasions and I'm grateful I found him. James came out to my Dad's house on a Saturday night on short notice to help us with plumbing issues (without charging overtime prices, I might add). This may have been the same night he was late for a family birthday party because he came out to help us. While he was at the house, he noticed that my Dad was relying on a refrigerator in the garage because the one in the house was non-functional. He volunteered -- without being asked -- to move the refrigerator into the kitchen for us. Several months later, he cheerfully dug up our front flowerbed to find and replace the sewage leaks caused by our 50-year-old orangburg pipes (thanks, Janss Corp, for going cheap when you built the house). Not that he was cheerful about taking out the plants, but cheerful about the hard labor of digging a trench at least 12 feet long and 5 feet deep. On each occasion we called James, he went above and beyond for us. His pricing is eminently reasonable. He richly deserves 5 stars on Yelp and all of our gratitude. read more
