After hearing how good the Jalama burger was I drove to Jalama Beach to try it for myself. It was a pretty good burger and very filling.

Decent Food / Hurrendous Service The crazy old broad behind the counter thinks she can treat people however she wants since they are the only restaurant around. Ordered a burger and fries an hour before closing, waited 40 minutes for a burger (no fries) and was then told that it is closing time and it would be impossible to complete my order. Here's an idea, clean the sh*t out of your old ears, stop gossiping with employees when you are supposed to be helping customers, and pretend like customers matter in your business. Worst burgers ever! Some lady recommended the famous burgers in Jalama beach so we gave it a try and it was a big NO NO! Apart from rude customer service, food was gross! My boyfriend notice right away that it was frozen patties and I didn't get to finish it because half way I felt the nasty flavor of it. Later on we kept burping the burgers nasty and he ended up barfing all the burger out and I got diarrhea from it! The beach and campsite is totally worth it, incredible views and nice getaway but don't recommend the burgers at all! read more

1st and foremost - after reviewing the yelp review, I was a little confused at the website provided above, after doing some research, I'm pretty sure that, http://www.jalamabeachstore.net/ is the correct website and the other was a captured domain name by someone other than the Jalama Beach Store at the State Park / Campsite. After a long 11 mile hike down to Point Conception and back, we decided we would eat away all of the calories we burned at the Jalama Beach Store and Grill - after hearing about the Famous Jalama Burger, it was my #1 choice along with the delicious beer battered onion rings.. my fiancée ordered the Double Bacon Cheese burger with Fries! We were not disappointed in the least bit!!! If you go to Jamala Beach for day use or camping and want to eat out, this is your only choice unless you go into Lompoc, some places take advantage of this and lack in service and quality, this store's grill lacks neither, the prices for the merchandise is typical for a camp store but the food is excellent and priced so reasonably the I was genuinely surprised - $5.25 for a yummy taste of heaven! Note: regarding the camping sites - we stayed on campsite #59 right on the water - it was near the bathrooms, but the surf outweighed any unnecessary sounds - the view was awesome... never camped on the sand before, if we can get the spot again, we'll do it! read more

It it as everyone says, the burger is better than anything you can make your self while camping. So, plan on other things for your camping menu, and when it's time for burgers, plan ahead and order about 45 minutes before your chow time. If you order when you are hungry, you will end up munching on other things while you wait and it'll not maximize the burger experience. But even on a full stomach, it was good. Yes, you will wait; especially on a weekend during the summer. IT IS WORTH IT! I literally think about this burger the rest of the day, and the following day, etc....Oh, and just a side note. If you are in Lompoc and go to the Jalama Beach Cafe, they do have a "Jalama burger" on the menu. And they will tell you, "Yes it's the same one as on the beach!" Do not be fooled. My Grilfriend and I were in the area enjoying a nice relaxing weekend, and decided to come check out this place. We actually have reservations to stay here the weekend of July 18-21, so we wanted to come and do some "pre-gaming". I have been camping here with my family for a few years now and I know how awesome it is, but wanted to share it with my girlfriend. We arrived at the park around 2:00. I was ready to pay $10.00 daily rate, but the Ranger told me if I was going to just go eat, he would let me in for free. WOO-HOO! We drove around and I showed my GF the site where we would be staying (Abalone Group Site). She was so excited!! We then drove back to the Camp Store where the famous Jalama burger awaited us. We both order the Jalama burger (Me with an extra patty and bacon, my GF just a single with bacon) and a large fry. Let me tell you.....the burger is AWESOME out of this world! It is definitely one of the best burgers I have ever had. The Fries were very good as well, and a large is MORE then enough for 2 people. My GF was also blown away. Definitely worth driving all the way from LA to experience this treat. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We both cant wait to come back here in July and have another Jalama Burger! read more

The Jalama burger is like In N Out on steroids. The shredded lettuce is genius, but I can't exactly say why. It just seems to work way better than regular lettuce. The sauce was awesome, the buns didn't have that stale taste to it that lame burger joints use. Damn, that was a good burger. No combos though, but the fries are also worth trying out. read more

Seriously good burger. I got a bacon cheeseburger and was extremely impressed. They don't skimp. I think the onion rings were overdone, but still good. The service is no nonsense. Order at the counter, they call your number and then pick it up at the window. Balance plate on one hand and fend off your dog with his maw wide open to catch any food you might "accidentally" drop. Bad dog! Many reviewers had an issue with turnaround on their orders, but let's consider: They most likely showed up at lunch or dinnertime on a Saturday or lunch on Sunday. Jalama Beach is small, but can pack in enough people to have its own zip code. You get the people camped there and the many people who drive up for the day. Just plan accordingly. I want to try other things, but I get there so infrequently that I just have to have the burger. read more

NOW THIS IS AN EPIC BURGER well worth the drive on a small windy 14 mile road. This burger is a must for you burger lovers out there. Juicy beef patties, toasted bun special sauce, shredded lettuce, red onions and a slice of tomato are combined to make this wonderful decedent masterpiece. Right on Jalama Beach, this place is absolutely amazing! It's located inside the Jalama Beach Store at the end of the parking lot. Although it looks small, don't underestimate the power of good cooks making delicious food! At the recommendation of a co-worker, I ordered the Jalama Burger with cheese and a small size fries. Subtly seasoned but flavorful fries. And the Jalama Burger is probably the best burger I have ever had. Their special Jalama sauce is delicious, the patty is juicy and flavorful, the bun is so soft, and the veggies are fresh. You can't go wrong! If you want a beautiful ocean view and excellent food, I highly recommend this place! Note: The small fries isn't such a small order! It's about a half of a regular plate full of fries. Wow... Just Wow! Located on pristine coastline and tucked away in the most hidden area imaginable, Jamala Beach Store, like Jalama beach itself is a gem. My "surf burger" was made with six types of seafood.... absolutely delicious. My wife's chicken sandwich was also out of this world. We ate while checking out the enormous waves. Good food always tastes amazing out in nature, and Jalama doesn't disappoint. A really nice drive through the country to get to this state park and sweeping vistas of the coast line set the stage for a fun little drive-in style food experience. Everybody talks about the burgers and they really are good...Especially if you take your food down to the beach and enjoy it next to the wave. Five stars and reasonably priced. Don't forget to stop by the gift store, they have really cool t-shirts, sweatshirts, and gifts. Jalama is a very special place and is very set away from crowds. If you want to know some fun stories and hear some history about the area then you should talk to the store owner who always tells a new tale when my honey and I come in to visit. Every burger I try here is amazing including the turkey and veggie patties. Take a bottle of wine to the sand to cap off an amazing day and watch the sunset. If you forget your picnic basket at home the store has plenty of snacks, wine, opener and even pretty wine glasses that say Jalama Beach on them. I cannot wait to camp here and enjoy at least three days here rather than having to say good bye at dark. read more

This is not a place that you just drop in. It is 14 miles off the highway and is certainly worth the trip. One of the best looking beaches in California that you can only get to by boat, helicopter or road. The beach stor is very unassuming but can they crank out a burger! We had the Jalama Burger and found a picnic table to enjoy lunch and the beautiful scenery. The 1 hour store pass saved us $16 with our dogs. The ride in from Highway 1 is very scenic with a windy road traveling through cattle rances in the rolling hills. The burger at the end of the road is a great rward! read more

I think they put something in their burgers; seriously, I am addicted and I'm ok with it! My husband introduced me to the Jalama Burger about six years ago and we have returned frequently since. The actual beach is a great place to camp and the people that work at the store are super cool but when it comes down to it, we go for the burgers. I'm actually looking forward to the day that my 10-month old daughter is old enough to take to Jalama Beach so she can experience the best burger her Father and I have ever eaten. Returning 10 years after the first time having a famous Jalama burger and it was just as good as I remembered. The burger is delicious with the shredded lettuce, and crispy seared buns. The only downside is wait time for your meal, they wait until several orders are completed before calling your number to pick-up. 30-40 minutes is a bit excessive for burgers and fries, regardless we'll keep returning because its a great treat after the fun drive out to the beach. read more

This is a cute little Mom and Pop general store. It's a funky little place, but they have just about anything you could need if you are camping at the beach. I was excited to try the "world famous Jalama burger." To my surprise, it was just mediocre. I am a bit spoiled and happen to be very good at making hamburgers, but I have to say there wasn't anything world famous about it. The sauce is a homemade thousand island and the lettuce is perfectly shredded, but the beef looked like it was frozen and there weren't a lot of additions (ie bacon). I'll definitely go back and love the views, but I think this place needs to step it up to be world famous. The fries were also just so-so. They were just frozen and lacked flavor. Next time, I'll try something else. The breakfasts look good. read more

Big, HUGE, Disappointment!! My husband & I have been taking numerous trips (70 miles) to Jalama Beach on our days off just to get a Jalama Burger. I'd say we were addicted. Once we even got a second burger before we left for trip home. But on Monday, August 21st we had two less than Mediocre burgers! Not to mention a 'short' order of fries. Who was that cooking in the kitchen?? This was the most AVERAGE, get anywhere, burger & definitely not worth a trip! Did someone forget to put the secret in the secret sauce? We've told so many people to go get this "Famous Jalama Burger" but not sure we can do that anymore. Plus we've lost all desire to return. I'm so curious to know what happened that day! If this had been our experience the first time there we would have never returned. Want to give it a 2nd chance but have to say not really in any hurry now. read more

I used to come here when I was little and every time I am even remotely close to it I have to go back. The burgers here are some of the best I have everrrrr had in my life.
