We also got the Honey Chicken and Pickles (with a side of hot sauce) that was great. I really enjoyed the juicy fried chicken; it paired really well with the acidity of the Hot Sours pickles. I will say, the grits were not my favorite. There was not really any flavor to the grits and they were also a mushy/grainy/gritty (haha) texture. The hot sauce was very good; not too spicy! I would recommend ordering the Hot Chicken Biscuit over the Honey Chicken and Pickles if you can handle a bit of spice. The hot sauce gave it a lot more flavor. Finally, we ordered the Classic Mac & Cheese. Honestly, this left me a bit disappointed. This was definitely a very creamy/heavy/cheesy dish. I didn't find that there was much flavor to it. To counter, I am not the biggest fan of mac and cheese (I've only ever found 1-2 mac and cheeses in my life that I really enjoyed). This place was great. From the whole ambiance and vibes. I mean, the music selection was great. It's definitely a great option for date night or lady's night out. All the food was amazing and was plentiful. My oldest daughter took me out for restaurant week (her turn), and she wasn't too sure because she doesn't like pickles. I sent her over the menu for the selection they had, and she decided to go. We were greeted at the door, and I told the host that we had RSVPd over the web. He showed us to our small table for two, and our waitress named Faith took over. She was amazing. We did not know how much food we would be receiving. I mean, they give you a large portion. You will not finish a single dish on your own. They are simply, too big. We felt bad wasting so much food. Come with the most empty stomach or split one entree between multiple people, I promise you cannot take these fried chicken dishes down on your own. Jacob's Pickles serves Southern-ish food - huge portions of decadent meat- and carb-heavy dishes - but in a more NYC ambience with its rather deep and narrow dining room or sidewalk tables that provide plenty of buzz. It's a popular place especially for brunch, but it's just as good for dinner and you might have a better shot at a reservation that way. The iconic fried chicken "sandwiches" are served for both meals anyway. The first time I went for a weekday brunch, I was about to travel and couldn't take leftovers so I only got the biscuit and fixin's appetizer for my meal. Two large, buttery, square biscuits accompanied by honey, two jams, salted butter, and maple butter, which was the star of the spreads. I still had trouble finishing, but it would be great to share (and perhaps could even work as dessert?). I went again this past weekend for dinner, and was thankful for the reservation given the growing crowd of waiting patrons. Again, considering the large portions, the two of us ordered an app and entree to share. We started with the daily special of chicken, bacon, cheese, and ranch over fries - I forgot the exact name but basically a loaded potato in fry form. It sounded better than the poutine and was just as big of a portion, and actually ended up a few dollars cheaper. Tasty, but needs ketchup (which is provided) with just how dense it is. We got the hot chicken and biscuits as our shared entree. There are two big chunks of chicken between two biscuits that aren't quite large or firm enough to hold them, so definitely a fork-and-knife food and not a feasible "sandwich". The hot sauce has a great smoky flavor without being too painful, and we wanted to eat every last bit by dipping our biscuits and even spooning some into the included cheese grits. Between both very large and filling dishes, we were absolutely stuffed but managed to finish! Best of all, for such big portions, Jacob's Pickles isn't even very expensive; our meal was only about $40 with tax and tip, no drinks. I would have definitely had leftovers if I wasn't sharing with a guy with an appetite, so considering the great value and the nice digs, I can see why this spot is so popular! read more

Came here for a nice Sunday brunch. The wait was incredibly long but we were able to wait at the bar and the bar staff was excellent . Extremely friendly and welcoming and helped the wait go by a little quicker. We were told 45 minutes and ended up waiting an hour and change which wasn't my favorite. The restaurant has a great overall look with an awesome aviation gin back bar display as well as a George Dickel display where we were seated. We waited about another 15 minutes to be seen by a waitress and she didn't realize we weren't being seen. Honest mistake and she made up for it in kindness. This was truly my favorite restaurant I went to in a week of dining across Manhattan! The place was absolutely packed on a weekday for brunch (good sign), but the checkin process and service was still incredibly efficient and well managed. The deviled eggs are a must - you simply cannot recreate whatever their recipe is yourself. The eggs are HUGE and topped with the most creamy, flavorful mixture. TLDR: Fried pickles were tasty but 15% pickle and 85% batter. Hot chicken is not Nashville Hot seasoning but straight garlic chili oil. If you like Oreos even the slightest bit, I don't see how you wouldnt love their Oreo icebox jar. I was so excited to come here for lunch for Restaurant Week, but I can't help but be quite disappointed that it didn't live up to how hyped I was for it. I got the fried pickles for the app, hot chicken biscuit for the entree, and Oreo icebox jar. Starting with the fried pickles, while the batter was overall quite crisp and light, some of the pieces had really thick chunks of batter and a couple of the pieces were over fried with a really dark brown color and tortilla chip-like crunch. I also wish the pickles were much thicker because there were all as thin (or thinner) as a quarter of my finger's width, making the pickle to batter ratio really off. It would be so much more satisfying to be able to really bite into a piece and get a nice thick pickle crunch with a supporting crisp as opposed to searching for the sliver of pickle in the bite. I will say that it was still pretty tasty with the sauce, but I feel like it could be done soo much better and leaves more to be desired out of a fried pickle. Now for the hot chicken biscuit. Objectively, tasty and well made. They give two quite large pieces of fried chicken on top of the bottom half of the biscuit, cover the chicken with the pickles, and lay the top biscuit half on the side. The chicken was tender and flavorful with a crunchy coating that was a bit too thick and separated from the meat in some areas and just right in others. I question how fast my plate got delivered to me however because the food wasn't hot at all, it had a touch of warmness as if it had been sitting outside for a bit. The pickles that cover the chicken provided the needed cut of freshness and bright crunch with this plate and were pretty well-rounded in taste in that they did not lean in any particular direction of flavor like sour, spicy, or sweet. They're called hot sours but I don't think they have any heat to them. Now for the main disappointment with this dish: the sauce and seasoning. It's described as Nashville Hot, but it was literally just Asian garlic chili oil poured onto the chicken and plate. The chicken itself doesn't have that classic rich dark red coating of a Nashville Hot chicken and though I could be wrong, the sauce to me was straight chili oil, not even some specially made sauce at the restaurant. Though I do rly enjoy garlic chili oil, personally, I find it quite unpleasant that fried chicken, which is inherently oily, is sitting on a pool of more oil and the bottom biscuit was completely soaked through of oil. It was still tasty, but describing it as Nashville Hot is so misleading to me--it's not Nashville Hot, it's garlic chili oil. I am surprised that the only other reviews that mention this are from over 6 years ago. I really think they should change the description because even though it was tasty, all I could focus on throughout the meal was how it was not Nashville hot chicken and how oily everything was. The biscuit was good, nothing particularly extraordinary. I actually like the cheesy grits a lot more than I was expecting to, cuz most of the grits I have had were personally quite bland and flavorless but these had a subtle cheesy flavor that I enjoyed. I am glad my meal ended with a dessert where there's nothing bad that can be said. It's a cold dessert that's like a cross between mousse and ice cream. It's airier and fluffier than ice cream but has a creamy, silky quality to it that makes it distinct from a mousse. It's very similar to cookies n cream ice cream in that there's little delightful chunks of Oreo throughout. I also really enjoyed the whipped cream and sprinkle of crushed Oreo on top because it allowed me to curate bites on the spoon with all the different textures. I made a reservation at 12:30 and liked that even though I came around 10 min earlier, I was able to get seated right away. The girl who was serving me was also quite attentive in that she frequently refilled my water as she walked by, which was very nice of her. So when it comes to service, I would definitely give 5 stars. Though this meal overall was disappointing, Id say I actually would be down to come back here and try other menu items because their actual cooking seems to have potential for more enjoyable dishes. read more

This place is phenomenal! I've never had chicken so huge over a salad with an enormous homemade grandma square biscuit/crouton. I got the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Caesar salad. The chicken was extremely moist on the inside, lightly seasoned and crispy on the outside, and tasted magnificent with all of that glorious flavor nestled nicely on top of a bed of Romaine lettuce. The salad was slathered with Caesar dressing and that biscuit, OMG!! That was a delightful and delicious treat affectionately called a crouton. Now I've had croutons in my day and none of them compares to that. It's a huge, warm, soft biscuit crouton tucked on the side of the bowl. They are served in these gigantic bowls to go and you can't possibly eat it all in one sitting.
