I always make a stop at jacks when I'm in Indy. I love the chocolate and regular glazed twist. It's nice bc they have that flavor in donut holes even, which allows me to get my other favorite -iced sprinkled! Only thing I wish was different were the hours... we like to grab donuts the night before and jacks closes at 6 pm. We are used to our hometown donut shop open 24 hours with fresh made donuts all hours. Still- I will make the effort to go when open because it's that good! read more

I'm disappointed because my husband and I wanted to try this place for a long time, and today I finally had the chance to stop by. I asked if there were any non-dairy donuts since my son has an allergy, and this lead the woman behind the counter and I to begin making small talk. I am about to have another baby, so the primary topic of small talk was about finding out the sex of the baby. The woman was helpful and polite, but then she brought up how some people are raising their children to decide their own gender and how she thought this was weird. I couldn't tell if she was against trans people in general or simply parents who choose to raise their kids non-binary until proven otherwise, but it was out of left field either way. The woman behind the counter and another woman in the restaurant continued this conversation, but it just felt like such a weird topic to shift to with someone you already know is a first-time customer. I would give 2.5 stars since the donuts were good and the woman was polite and helpful before the conversation took such a strange turn, but I don't feel justified in rounding up to 3 stars due to how awkward it was to end my first experience here on such a heavy topic that is very personal for some people. My Jack's experience started before I even reached the door. I stepped out of my car and was immediately teased by sugar-laced yeasty notes wafting from the building itself. You know you're in for it when your mouth starts watering before you even see the food. The inside was cozy. I immediately wanted to spend a little time with a book and any one of the scrumptious treats waving at me from the glass cases. Alas, that would have to wait for another day. I ordered two dozen from the smiling face politely waiting and she immediately hopped into action. "A dozen from the left and a dozen from the right?" she asked. The left case contained your standard cake and yeasty treats in twists, circles, and fritter shapes. The more basic of the donut family. The case on the right had what my grandfather called the "gussied" donuts - those with the icing and fillings. Some even had candy toppings?! Her suggestion worked for me and I told her as much. I also added a tall cappuccino because, well, it was before eight in the morning. She went to work and I was on my way out in less than ten minutes. Impressively efficient. Of course, I sampled the merchandise and was very happy. They were sweet and fluffy, just like any freshly made donut should be. My department LOVED them. I do have one warning for you - the iced ones, they're HUGE. I mean crazy huge. Bigger than the mini plates I put out. The employees starting cutting them into fourths. The coffee was ok and did it's job, although the cappuccino was a tad on the bitter side. I'm still a devoted Titus donut fan and think I always will be. Have a died and gone to donut heaven?! This place is incredible! I randomly stopped in on a Saturday afternoon craving a yeast donut. I know it says that they are open until 10 p.m. but I assumed that like most bakeries they had limited options in the evening. Boy, was I wrong. I walked in and was completely overwhelmed by the display cases filled with tasty treats. Holy smokes! The donuts were massive and plentiful. As big as my hand! The thought of eating one was kind of overwhelming. Too much for me to handle, so I opted for their version of a cronut, which is a trend I hope NEVER goes away, and an apple fritter. The lady who waited on me was so nice and pleasant. I was in and out in a jiffy with a smile. Spent less than $6 for both, which seems reasonable to me. As soon as I got in the car, I giddily devoured the cronut. Yummmmers!! That poor thing didn't stand a chance. It was a bit too sweet, but it tasted so light and fresh. It took me most of the day to work through the apple fritter. I mean that sucker was huge. It was also a tad too sweet for my taste, but I enjoyed it. I loved the bits of apple which gave it a unique taste. There is no doubt that I will be returning to Jack's. Since moving here from L.A., I learned that there is a great debate: Jacks vs. Dan's. My vote... Jack's hands down!

I first experienced Jack's Donuts in Greenfield, one of four Central Indiana locations with the original being in New Castle and locations also existing in Carmel and Fishers. Judging from the Yelp reviews, Jack's is one of those donut shops that garners either passionate support or a "meh" response. Count me as a sort of a "meh." Located in a small strip center that looks like Mayor Brainard either forgot about it or he simply hasn't gotten around to gold-plating the parking lot yet, Jack's Donuts has that sort of smalltown donut shop feeling to it. There's a nice sized parking lot available with a few spots clearly designated as exclusive to Jack's. While there's no actual accessible parking spots, it looks like two neighboring storefronts are vacant and I had no trouble finding an appropriate space where my wheelchair would not be blocked in. The sidewalk is level to the ground and curb cuts weren't necessary. Donuts are very much an individual taste kind of thing. I know people who swear by Krispy Kremes, while I found myself not particularly surprised when all those stores started closing. I know some people who swear by Dunkin Donuts, while I know others who consider them to be too corporate. Indy has been invaded by the gourmet donut scene as of late, though I've personally found most of the newer shops to be long on gimmicks and short on quality product or service. Jack's has been around for a while, though I'll confess I didn't really realize that until the past year or so. It originally opened up in 1961 and is now run by the original founder's grandson. I'll admit I'm a sucker for truly family owned businesses. When I experienced the Greenfield location, I'll admit that I enjoyed it but couldn't quite figure out what all the fuss was about. There are Yelpers I truly enjoy and respect here who swear by the Jack's experience, but having now had my second encounter with Jack's I still find myself thinking "good, but not great." I kept it simple on this visit - I ordered three yeast donuts, though this was partly because my desired chocolate frosted were nowhere to be found. At $1 each, I wanted a simple snack that would also give me a bit of an energy boost. As is noted by some reviewers, their donuts are nicely sized and I do appreciate that. Quite honestly, I could have gotten by with a donut or two rather easily. I knew that I was only a couple hours away from dinner and having three donuts was definitely a bit much. This location struck me as very similar to their Greenfield location. It's in a rather run down strip center. The interior offers up some friendly Jack's novelty wear and products, though other than that it's decidedly lacking in personality. There's a small play area for children and there's a couple of televisions inside the fairly small space - one was on. The staff was friendly. There was one customer inside Jack's and we both happened to sit at one of their small tables to enjoy our donuts. The employee offered to change the channel for us. I wouldn't quite call it hospitality, but it was certainly competent customer service. The donuts, as noted, are huge and you definitely get a strong sense of the yeast. I tend to be a fan of fluffier donuts, while these are a little more dense and filling. I definitely wouldn't call them bad or unappealing in any way - they simply aren't to my taste. For those who prefer to avoid the corporate scene and want to support local businesses, Jack's is a terrific option. I also appreciated seeing the "This Business Serves Everyone" sign on their door, a particularly bold statement in Hamilton County. While Jack's isn't one of my favorite donut shops in Central Indiana, there's no question I'd patronize the business when I have a similar donut craving while in the area. read more

Took the kids up to Jack's after a sleepover the other day for some sweet treats. Being the first trip to Jack's, I was very happy with the wide variety of donuts. Not overwhelming, but just right. Some, like the Peanut Butter Cup donut speak to me. I picked up a small bag to go, and was very happy with my selections. The team at Jack's was friendly, but the "process" of getting up to order was a little chaotic. While some may thrive on the "stock market" trading floor atmosphere, I do not. Overall, however, a nice experience and the donuts are very, very good. Would go over and try some more of their treats when I'm over in Carmel. read more

Yeah, this is the real deal. Definitely worth the trip from the hotel. These guys have a variety, although there is a large number of cinnamon and cinnamon roll type *oversized* donuts. My favorite was the cinnamon twist, although it is not to be confused with sugar cinnamon twist (a completely different thing here). I really like this place. They've made the place welcoming and there are even some couches and comfortable lounge chairs on one side to make for a classic "coffee shop" kind of vibe. There are a fair number of larger square tables so you are welcomed to sit and down a few on the spot. There seems to be a kids play area, although I don't have a report on that at this time. There were a few retired gentlemen relaxing and reading the paper presumably before heading out to the golf course, as was apparent by the golf gear. There was a pretty brisk pace of business for the 10 or 15 minutes that I was there enjoying my fix, so I get the sense this is a local hot spot. I had the cinnamon twist which was excellent. I had a jelly, which was pretty good and did have a different, but seemingly premium, raspberry jelly inside. The sugar cinnamon twist I had was the one I was anticipating liking the best, and while it was pretty good, I will opt for the glazed "cinnamon twist" that the guy recommended going forward. I got the sense that the guy behind the counter was possibly part of the family, and seemed to take pride in the place and the treats they made. I don't recall the prices, but I did think they seemed very reasonable (I think my 3 donuts were only a few bucks). read more

The regular donuts are fine. (Glazed, chocolate, donuts-holes, etc) They are not phenomenal, but they are sweet and get the job done. The apple fritter on the other hand is great, but it is giant. We ordered 1/2 dozen donuts and a coffee traveler and after waiting 20 minutes to receive the coffee (that was already brewed) I asked for creamer & cups, and they said it would cost an additional $5. Cups should come with the traveler...How else would you drink it? All other coffee shops include cups, creamer, and sugar. When I showed that I was upset about the extra charge (but agreed to it) both ladies ignored me, wouldn't respond to me and refused to respond. They made me feel like an idiot. I told them I only needed 5 cups, they gave me 20 and baggie full of cheap creamers... and then didn't give any lids. Quite possible the worst service I've ever received. I do proclaim that Jack's Donuts are the best donuts in Indianapolis... and dare I say it.. the world!! Yes, I do love Jack's Donuts and have since I was two years old and began eating solid foods. This shop started in my hometown of New Castle and luckily for everyone else, has begun franchising throughout the Indy metro area. I made a special trip from SoBro all the way to Carmel, just because I was craving my favorite caramel nut donut. Did not disappoint. These donuts are gigantic and delicious. The donut itself has cinnamon swirls inside it and then when topped with the caramel icing, something truly magical happens. I like the interior of this Jack's too. It's spacious, good selection of coffee and large amount of swag. I informed my boyfriend that he may purchase me a Jack's Donut t-shirt for my bday and I'll wear it around with pride. Apparently, in all my recent Yelping, I neglected to write a review for Jack's. I am here to right that wrong. These are the hands-down greatest cake donuts you will eat in Carmel, if not the world. Cake donuts are where it's at, and Jack's understands this. Fall is by far the greatest time of the year when Jack's rolls out their pumpkin donuts. These things are just remarkable. On several occasions, I have gotten whole bags full of them and then returned the next day for more. They're that good. The yeast donuts that they have are good as well, I do enjoy a glazed donut every now and again, but I would say that these are secondary to the cake donuts. But that's more a personal preference than a remark on the quality of the donuts. I'm making myself hungry writing this review. I may need to take a donut break. Be right back. read more

Whenever you allow the employees to select the donuts via DoorDash or drive through, they make it a point to give you the absolute WORST combination of basically inedible donuts that no one would ever want. Absolutely subpar without the option to pick what you would like via the DoorDash app. Sad there are no alternatives. Will just have to drive further away for longs it seems. read more

Jack's has excellent donuts! They are large and pretty cheap and always fresh. I took my parents some since they live in a tiny town where it's hard to get this quality of donuts and he is still 6 months later talking about them. I like getting the coconut one or the nut covered ones. The plain yeast are great too. They are so large that one is about all I can eat. Sometimes we get 3 to split. My oh my oh my. I got to experience this gem at a local Yelp Elite house party in the comfort of a model home and in a bedroom, with a local brew in my other hand. What else could be better? (Hint: not much) There were four different varieties to choose from: the applesauce cake donut (one of the best), the zebra's tail (I think that's what it was called?), and two others. Let me tell you: these were some of the BEST donuts I've tasted. Ever. The dough was perfectly baked - nice and fluffy, doughy, and perfectly (not overly) sweet. I wanted to take a whole box home. Luckily I was able to speak with the owner, Lee, and one of his cousin's / employees. They were very helpful and knowledgable. And I am very happy to see that they'll have a downtown location underneath the Artistry apartments. I don't think there's a better location! I asked what the average prices of the 20+ flavors of their staple donuts were, and he said that they range from a little under a dollar to $1.25 or so depending on the location. To me, that's well worth it. I've tried all of these "fancy craft" donuts and let me tell you- these CONQUER those overpriced, too fancy donuts. You can tell their baking and Recipes have been in the family for generations. Jack's takes simplicity to the next level and masters it. Can't wait to try more at their downtown location soon! I got the joy of trying Jack's Donuts at a recent Elite event and I am HOOKED! The donuts are insane and so delicoius. I snagged a morsel and enjoyed getting to know the CEO of Jack's Donuts, Lee (a.k.a Jack the 3rd). He was super friendly and engaging, and talked long enough for me to snag a second morsel...during this time I asked where his locations were, and learned that they'll be opening a downtown location in the spring and became overjoyed! He also informed us that they still make everything from scratch and by hand, only using machines for things like frying or baking. I thanked Lee for the amazing treats and snagged an entire donut half on the way out - I couldn't stop myself! This is the second time I've been to the Carmel location in years and the first time I brushed it off, but the second time the lady behind the counter was acting the same way she's rude she tries to rush you she acts like she doesn't wanna be there honestly, it's bad business as a business owner, I fired my employees for having that attitude on a daily basis but then again, maybe she's the owner who knows maybe she thinks she can act that way because she makes enough money. Who knows all I do know is I'll be stopping at the one on my way to work for now on. My kid will eat any sprinkle and honestly the donuts here are very sad compared to other Jack's donuts they taste funny. And they look half assed, which makes me believe this might be a privately owned location. Again, this is after two visits and I normally go to a different location. But first thing in the morning, the one thing I can't stand as a rude individual so either fire the lady or tell her to change your attitude you shouldn't be working a job that early in the morning if you don't like mornings. I heard on Carmel Chatter a "real" donut joint was coming to town and while I vehemently avoid carbs, I cannot skip a grand opening with soft doughy yeast and chocolate icing glaze. It was a great way to kick off a "day date" with my 4 year old, who also considers himself a donut connoisseur of the best kind. We waited in a decent size line. Nothing outrageous at 9:30 a.m. The staff was friendly and patient despite my son's indecision. He finally fell on a chocolate iced long john and I chose the same with peanuts. The price was not crazy and I liked the option to get him a horizon milk before check out. I was not blown away by options. They have several but I was hoping for something a bit out of the box, unique flavors, interesting twist. This is just your AOK donut stop. I agree with the poster who mentions the interior being rather boring. Soft comfortable chairs and more of a coffee shop vibe would give this place a lot more warmth and invitation to hang out and buy more. But the coldness and blandness of the decor makes you feel like you are in a gas station. With regard to the donuts, they were good. I mean, I liked them but I'm not craving and since I do limit my carb intake I only had half and didn't feel the need to go back for the 2nd so I let my son OD on it instead. Overall I thought it was ok. I was unimpressed with the grand opening bc the owners didn't say hello and no one was really talking about it. WARNING: I gave Jack's Donuts a two, but in reality it was about a 2.3 I had very high expectations for Jack's Donuts. These expectations were not met. Not to say that the donuts were horrible, in fact they were actually fairly good. It's just that the overall combination of over baked cake donuts and below subpar service did not make for a pleasant experience. Jack's Donuts is nestled in a large strip mall in Carmel, Indiana. It's sign is much nicer than its neighbors and on the inside it is clean and fairly spacious; a typical donut place. The ambience is nonexistent with fluorescent lighting and cheap flooring and decor. None of this is too arresting, but disappointing nonetheless as I was to assume this would be a cute "mom and pop" type of locale. They do, however, have seating, despite the fact that the table and chairs are extremely cheap. The case is filled with mainly yeast donuts and has very little variety in flavor. You are greeted by a posse of teenage boys who look both lost and scared. It is their first day on the job, but I would prefer to be greeted by more confident and experienced workers. The service is at about an average speed, but the workers need major direction so that slows down the process a bit. My companion and I ordered five donuts and half a dozen donut holes. We were given a dozen donut holes at check out due to the fact that they "hadn't figured out their pricing yet". We were instead priced for a dozen donut holes, not really getting a deal at all but instead being coerced into buying even more that we probably will not eat. I ordered a small vanilla latte. The donuts themselves looked pretty average, but the quality of them varied drastically. The plain yeast twist was by far the front runner and was nicely crisp and generously glazed. Not crumbly or overly sweet like some donuts can be. Very good and would definitely order again if I decide to make a trip back. The chocolate yeast pretzel was also pretty good, but kind of plain and strikingly average. The caramel nut yeast donut was the biggest let down, as I normally love caramel donuts. The yeast itself was incredibly bland and bread-like while the caramel was stingingly spread on with an overwhelmingly amount of nuts. The apple (can't remember if it's sauce or cider) cake donut was extremely over baked and under flavored. The apple was scarce and it was way too dense. The one thing I did like about this donut was that it looked beautiful (as did most of the donuts we ordered). Their presentation is pretty good, I must say. The blueberry donut was the worst of all. It wasn't so much that was flavorless, but it was so dense and over baked. We got eight mixed donut holes (half plain, half chocolate). Not only had I never seen donut holes like this before (which was very exciting), but they were nicely cooked despite their extreme variation in size. We then got four plain yeast, which were (again) sort of boring. My vanilla latte was WAY too strong, and this is coming from someone who drinks black coffee every day and has for years. The vanilla wasn't there AT ALL. Overall, this place was just plain boring and a disappointment.
