This little hole in the wall has a huge fan base. They are only open in the morning and I believe they close when the donuts run out. I'm here on a Saturday a little after 8:30 and they are down to slim pickings. It's fine with me because they still had jelly donuts and big caramel frosed. It was great to see folks who pre-ordered boxes & often multiple big boxes) and take them to go. The ladies working were very efficient. I give them 4 because they don't stay open long enough (a product of not making enough donuts ) and the somewhat curt service with less change than expected tho' it was a busy day (not related to pennies). read more

What a blast from the past! Sweet Shop is the no-nonsense, vintage donut shop of my dreams. They start making donuts in the wee hours of the morning, put their delicious baked goods in the display case, open their doors, and then sell their donuts until they're all gone, or until noon, whichever comes first. I was told that if they sell out before noon, they will put a sign in the window to let everyone know. Luckily, there was no such sign in the window when I visited at around 10:45 a.m. So I popped in to grab a donut or several. I think I had just slunk in at the nick of time. There was one tray of donuts left! So I got a few: a sprinkle donut, a blueberry cake donut, a glazed round donut, and a glazed twist. I'm a firm believer in keeping it simple when you visit a new donut shop. The glazed twist is my litmus test donut, so that's what I ate, but I also couldn't help eating the blueberry cake, which was a good decision because it was amazing. Sweet Shop keeps it delightfully simple. They sell coffee, but it's literally just black coffee for a buck if you want a medium size, or a buck and a quarter if you want a bigger cup. You can doctor your coffee with some creamer and sugar, but this place ain't making you no fancy lattes. Do you drink coffee or don't you? If you actually drink coffee, then the coffee they offer at Sweet Shop should be more than enough for you. They also sell orange juice and milk (regular, chocolate and strawberry) in plastic bottles, which you'll find in the refrigerated case. This place has all of the nostalgia, reminding me of the little donut shops I grew up with. The staff is always friendly, attentive and fast to get fresh donuts in your hand (well, in the bag or box, to be more specific). Several years ago, I lived closer and I remember when the Sweet Shop almost closed when the owner passed away. The donuts go fast at this locally owned, small town donut joint on Route 40, just west of Greenfield. The donuts are freshly made on site. The glazed yeast donuts are amazing and melt in your mouth so fast that you'll probably need two or three. The staff is friendly and eager to help. They know the regulars by name and bring their coffees out before they order. Prices are great. There is a drive thru or you can eat your donuts inside at one of their four tables. And not only do they taste amazing, but the price is very affordable too! The workers were really kind, and took time telling me what they have for sale at the moment, and helped me decide which donuts to choose. They also did very well making it look comfortable, despite the small amount of space they have. I definitely recommend anyone to stop by and try out their donuts. I grew up in Greenfield & have been a loyal customer for my whole life . I am done with them though . I'm over their pathetic hours. they advertise that they are open til noon , but regularly sell out & close by 10:00 , Sundays almost always by 9:00 . I think their donuts are better than Jacks , but at least I can count on Jacks to be open ! if I didnt like them be a local business, I would have given them 1 star read more

Got up early Sunday and decided to visit the Sweet Shop in our jammies before getting ready for church and the day. I always went my dad when I was a kid but I had forgotten the old entry door and tables until we visited Sunday! Wow! The memories came flooding back!!! They have an awesome area with tables where you can enjoy your doughnuts and coffee or whatnot. The grandson chose a chocolate yeast and yeast topped with chocolate icing. I chose doughnut holes and a few different doughnut for Pop Pop since he slept in. Well these early birds caught the worms and they were delicious!!! So soft and fresh and the grandson begged to go back after church. Of course they were closed by then but I promised him on his next overnight with us we will go again and eat at one of the tables. I highly recommend the lemon one. It was very soft with a sweet and sour lemon middle. The glazed cinnamon roll could use a little more cinnamon, but still had great soft flavor. After of all of the many places I have tried, I can say that these are hands down the best donuts on the planet. There is no donut with a better, softer, lighter texture than these. Even their cake donut is so soft it can be eaten with only one's tongue! Not to mention the amazing flavor of both their cake and yeasted doughs. Just outstanding. If you're in the area and don't try these, you're just foolish. Just be ware that they open at 4:00 with the fresh baked donuts out and ready, and the locals know it. I remember the days growing up in MA when Dunkin Donuts made good donuts. We are far from those days and now in DC, I rarely eat donuts (probably for the best) as there are very few good options in MoCo. Thus, whenever I am in Greenfield I make it a point to get to the Sweet Shop. It's nothing fancy...it's nothing crazy (fractured prune, I'm looking at you)...it's just good fattening donuts. Yeast...good Cake...good Filled...OK (the fillings are good but not decadent) Those donuts and a glass of milk, it's hard to beat. The only downside about giving the shop accolades is that they only make a certain amount of donuts per day and when they are gone...they are gone.
