Boyden's Bakery is a true hidden gem! I had a co-worker bring in cookies to work awhile back which is how I came to know of this place. The cookies were amazing! I've visited twice and on this visit I grabbed danishes for a brunch potluck. The danishes are delicious and lots of flavors to choose from, my favorite is the cream cheese strawberry and the pineapple. The donuts looked amazing and I'll probably have to get those next time! This has to be the friendliest bakery ever. They are so helpful too. Personally I am hooked on the Bismarcks here. First of all, they are giant, which is about the right size for my appetite. They are light and fluffy with a yummy icing and chopped nuts on top. You cannot go wrong with those. I have sampled various donuts from here also and cannot complain. What I really want to try but haven't had a chance yet, are those Danish. They look spectacular. I will update this review with my findings when I ever get to taste one. read more

This bakery is co-located with a small gas station/convenience store. I believe that it has been around for over 60 years. The bakery has a few parking spots that it shares with the convenience store, but I don't see a lot of people being here all at one time. The store is small and has an old school look and feel. It may be a bakery, but they do not have a big donut selection. Their pastries are were they make their money. They have a bunch of cookies, cinnamon rolls, danishes, pies and cakes. They have some awesome fruit danishes. I got an apricot, and blackberry and creme one. I threw in a lemon bar and pecan roll for good measure. Mmmmmm, I was hooked. My only issue was that my danish was cold, as if it was refrigerated or frozen. So, I cannot attest to their freshness. They are however, still pretty good. My favorite was the apricot one. Their prices are reasonable. They also offer a limited selection of sodas, milk, coffee and cappuccino. The staff was very nice and I was only there for about 3 minutes. In and out, easy peasy. read more

Ordered a sheet cake . It was awful. The cake was yellow and very dry, the icing tasted like a can icing nothing was good about this cake. People took a couple of bites and left it actually walked away. What a waste of money. read more

This small bakery on the south side of Indianapolis is home to one of my favorite doughnuts...the Bismarck, but to be honest it's not the same as Bismarcks that you might get at other bakeries. It's a delicious concoction of cinnamon roll, icing, and chopped nuts. It is the same, IMO, as the Bismarcks from Biff's Bakery that was in Mooresville, IN. It's HUGE. In the photo below, it's on a salad plate...it takes up the entire plate. I highly recommend, but would also recommend going early or calling ahead so you don't miss out. They are closed on Sundays and maybe Mondays, so check before you go. read more

After meeting one of the employees/family on Saturday we decided to stop by on our way home in the afternoon and boy are we glad we did! They still had plenty of items to chose from. I have missed the old Roslyn's bakery for years and Boyden's fills that gap. We got eclairs, donuts, Danish and cookies. Everything was delicious. And still great this morning after sitting all night. The smiley face cookie was on point. The eclair has plenty of terrific custard. My husband said the jelly donut has best he has had in ages. This was my first visit to Boydens but not my first time enjoying their baked goods. I had called in a cake order for a coworkers 36th work anniversary. I placed an order for a canasta cake with some writing on it and paid for it over the phone. The inside area is pretty small and during covid times probably not more than 4 or 5 people in at a time. As you walk in they have a cooler with cakes and pies on one side and cold drinks on the other. Just to the side of that is a coffee station. And just to your left is what you came in for...cookies cakes, pies, donuts and more! Staff was super friendly and I was in and out within 3 mins as there were two customers ahead of me. This is where to find some good pastries on the southside! Go at 6 am. They are attached to a gas station, so you can get gas, donuts and cookies at the same time. I have had a variety of pastries from blueberry, apricot, strawberry, apple, cherry and they were all delicious. The caramel alligator is amazing! They can get a little busy in the morning, but they are always friendly. I have not had 1 bad experience with them. read more

Paid a visit to Boydens this morning after our friend brought a box to try a few weeks ago. Theres a good variety of donuts and pastries to choose from. Boydens is a great "staple" donut shop. Typically fast in and out, they carry your typical assortment of the classics plus some seasonal varieties for holidays like Mardi Gras, Christmas, etc. Also open early in the morning, it's a great place to swing in on the way to work for breakfast. You can place a call ahead order the day before if ordering for a large group and they'll have it ready. Also very affordable! read more

I have been purchasing baked goods from Boyden's for more than 20 years. I use them often for work meetings. The quality is always good and consistent. I have fellow employees that swear their carrot cake is the best around. In fact, we had customers in the building one day for lunch, and I served Boyden's carrot cake for dessert. A FULL YEAR LATER - one of the customers from Texas was back for another meeting. After the meeting broke for lunch he came to my desk. He told me he was very disappointed in me, because I didn't serve the best carrot cake around that time. He had told people in Texas that he couldn't wait to come to the meeting, because he was just sure I would serve the best carrot cake he had ever had again this time. Our former CEO (retired) is a huge fan. In fact, for his retirement, we got one just for him to take home afterward. Boyden's is consistently GOOD! I HIGHLY recommend them. read more

I LOVE BOYDEN'S!! It's a total southside gem. All of their baked goods are fresh and delicious. Growing up we would always go to Roselyn Bakery for cookies and coffee cakes. Boyden's evokes that Roselyn Bakery feels from my childhood. I have ordered custom cakes that while not cheap, were beautifully decorated and wonderful! I really enjoyed my first visit to Boyden's. I'm more of a pie than a cake guy, so seeing a large variety of fruit Danish right as I entered the door was great sign. The staff was friendly and I was able to get my order promptly. They have a nice variety of pastry options and have a limited amount of coffee available too. Kudos to Boyden's for being the only southside bakery open at 4 AM (that I can find). They had a nice selection of donuts and I asked for their most popular options: blueberry cake and the Bismarck. Blueberry cake was very sugary but tasty and moist. Bismark was massive! As big as my head. I really loved it and it was perfect for splitting in half with someone else. I also enjoyed the yeast and jelly filled (my fave). I got 5 donuts for $4.50 - wow, bargain! There were lots of other treats in the case that looked delicious, so I better return to try them!! read more

I have been here twice, and I would rate this an average bakery. I feel bad doing so, because a friend HIGHLY recommended this to me and it has such good reviews. The first time I went after work and I got some cookies. One M&M cookie was amazing and the other thing (I forget) was okay. Today I picked up glazed yeast donuts, a long john , and a nut brownie. I'm sorry, but I hate the donuts. It has a smell that just does not appeal to me (or might be a combo of the taste and smell) and I really don't like the taste. I think I just must not like their dough. The cream filling in the long john was also just toooo sweet and didn't taste good. The brownie was fine. I ate it but I have had better. Meh. ‍ read more

Where there's a donut there's a Jordan. This joint is right by my work and I tried it for the first time recently. Hooked. It's dangerous really. They make some of the best cake donuts in the city! They also always have cherry cake which is hard to find and theirs are outta this world. I think it's really hard to find a place that does both cake and yeast well. However, this is the exception. we bought iced sugar cookies, white chocolate chip macadamia nuts, red velvet cookies, and cinnamon donut holes. it was all delicious! the sugar cookies were shaped and iced to look like pretty butterflies or yellow emoji faces! the donut holes reminded you of elephant ears from the state fair. the lady at the check out out counter was very patient and helpful. the sweets are priced nicely so you don't break your bank. it's got a small town feel to it. i love coming here and will definitely come back! read more

We've been long time costumers & I reached out on Instagram, they were closed & didn't reopen until January. I got a very nice message back that they were sorry & would do something about it. This is my new favorite bakery. Located on the edge of the old German Market Gardens area, with the area's charming architecture and landscaping, it's been there since 1932! I tried the cherry cheese Danish, which had just come out of the oven. Fresh, tender, full of cherries and creamy cheese filling--and not just a dab. Loads of both. Then I tasted the alligator bars. Wow! They weren't just out of the oven but were still extremely fresh and tender. I got my kids some butterfly and smiley sugar cookies. They were good, not outstanding in flavor or texture, but wonderful in decoration. My son's cookie had sunglasses, a ball cap, and was smiling with its tongue out one corner (a meme). I've read reviews that are scared of the area. Don't be. It's not "sketchy". A middle-aged lady got out of the Benz parked next to me. U Indy is a couple of lights down, and a Montessori school and St. Roch Catholic school are closer, as is the IMAX. The Market Garden area is full of beautiful old European-style houses from 100 years ago, many on large grounds. There's some pricy real estate very close by, as well as an enclave of real middle class neighborhoods. It wasn't built within the last few years and is evocative of 20th century Americana. Investors take note: the area is overlooked and undervalued. Bottom line: best Danish I've ever had, in an interesting neighborhood. read more
