I came here once and will never come back. I ordered a sandwich (I've forgotten the name), and it tasted incredibly stale and was hard to bite into and chew with the whole sandwich. Everything was overpriced and I just can't see the appeal. Other people I've talked to about this place agree the prices feel too high for the food. The atmosphere was clean and cute, but it felt less like a restaurant and more like an aesthetic place to exist (if that makes sense)? I don't know how to word it. read more

Do you ever have an experience at a place so bad that it ruins the trajectory of your whole day? That was my morning at Jackie Smalls. I don't give out one-stars on principle unless the food is inedible or something egregious happens but I feel in this case it is warranted. This is my third time at Jackie Smalls. My first, I thought the avo toast was great. Second time I got a very bland breakfast burrito. My third, today, I brought my infant son and decided to dine in. I asked for a high chair and once seated was told by my "waiter" that he could not take my order but I had to order at the front. First issue was this high chair. Nobody knew how to adjust the straps including me, and it was some minimal little aesthetic thing that looked like he could easily topple out of. This is important later. Anyways no big deal with the ordering, front guy was accommodating and let me order from my seat. I ordered the Smalls Scramble for me and French toast for my son with the syrup and raspberries on the side, no pistachios or whip. Food takes a good bit to come out, which is no biggie either. When it arrives, they set down the French toast plate with a knife (a knife knife not a butter knife) on it in front of my son. Ok not great but I hand them the knife back. Then I try the food. Honestly, I'm not sure what to say about the food but...yikes. The eggs were certainly not soft scrambled, and the toast did not look buttered, and the weak potatoes were somewhat like a thick flaccid potato chip drenched in truffle oil and, by the way, not more than a speck of salt on anything. It looked pretty but that was about it. The French toast was deep fried or air fried and it was just not good. Sorry, no other way to say it. So I go to ask for two things: salt, and to inquire as to whether the multi-grain toast has nuts since I have an allergy and it looked concerning. I keep having to go up to these counters and leave my baby unattended in his unstable high chair because nobody will come to me and keep making me get up. I had to ask like five people about the bread until someone pulled out a binder and started looking for allergens. Everyone was just pointing me to the next person and many seemed to simply not understand my question due to a language barrier. I get my salt, and this is some COARSE salt. So I couldn't even fix the seasoning. Not flaky, but like coarse and pebbly for pickling or seasoning steaks, not for food. While I'm up and bouncing from person to person I keep gesturing at my son and nobody will come to my table. In the meantime, he smushed the raspberries and spilled the syrup and I'm back and forth between my conversation and keeping my son in his chair. At the end, I just didn't trust these people's knowledge of anything and could not eat any of my food but brought it home for my husband. It's one thing to serve food that needs a bit of work, but you need to at least offer normal table salt for folks to fix it. It's another thing to have the majority of your staff not know about allergens or how to navigate your high chairs. Also that food needed more than a little bit of work. I will say though those pancakes did look good. I will not be posting pictures for this review because I don't want to mislead with the pretty plating. read more

Stumbled upon this place today and so happy I stopped. Warm welcome as walked in door. Service was amazing they have indoor seating and few tables on the outside. Order at counter and they bring to you. I ordered the gyro platter and was amazing. Hot and fresh. Great flavor and all. I requested fries nice and crispy and were definitely prepared right. So happy I've finally made it here. The place was packed on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch but my friend and I were able to snag a table. Every person who works here is so kind, accommodating and sweet. I wanted almost everything on the menu (especially the smoothies they looked delicious) but decided on the chicken blt wrap without the mayonnaise. Delicious and a solid portion. Price point for delicious homemade healthy food is spot on. I'm excited to return! I also will note a trip to the restroom (adorable decor) gave me a sneak peek at an immaculate clean kitchen too, which is always a win. read more

I came here awhile back for a yelp elite event and finally made it back with a friend for weekend brunch. First off weekends here are insane and it takes awhile to get a table. They do not take reservations. So this is a bit weird as there is no table service. You order at the register and your food is brought out to the table. So technically there is no need for tipping as you don't actually get full service. I ordered a beet cleanse juice and it was pretty good and a decent size for shy of $10. I ordered the lamb gyro which was huge however a huge pet peeve of mine is when they wrap and roll the waxed paper and foil into the sandwich. I had to completely unroll it to be able to eat the gyro without eating waxed paper or foil. That was extremely messy but still a good sandwich. For $13 it was a nice size but definitely should come with type of side. My friend ordered the tuna melt which 95% of it ended up on his plate as he took the first bite as the cheese was barely melted if at all. He said it was good but each bite more and more of it fell apart and was a struggle to eat like a normal sandwich. He ended up eating it with his fork. We ordered a fry to share and they needed salt which took a while for us to flag someone down for salt and pepper as they are not on the table. Also it was extremely tight fitting the tables are right on top of one another. I will say that the food is good just prepare for long waits and to be smushed and getting in and out of the tables is tight. read more

Came for lunch while in the area on a weekday and sat outside with the nice weather. It is counter service, despite the appearance of full service, so they will seat you with menus, but you'll have to get up to order and they'll bring your food to the table. The staff were all nice. Prices are quite reasonable, though both of us still felt hungry afterwards. They have gluten free wraps but no gluten free bread although they did allow me to substitute pita for a grilled GF wrap for an up charge. Not as filling as a pita, but what are ya gonna do? The scrambled egg was nicely cooked. A few reviews mention the mint water, which is a nice touch, but we didn't get any mint flavor but no biggie. I noticed a lot of people ordered the smoothies and juices, so that may be worth giving a try. read more

Their chicken shawarma salad is unreal! The white tzatziki sauce with it is amazing I always ask for extra! Definitely the best spot in town to grab a quick and filling salad. I came across this gem in Wayne, NJ. It's in a strip mall, not large, but the food and service are exceptional. The host staff were super friendly, accommodating, and were accurate with the wait times. The restaurant has exemplary service and I really enjoyed the presentation of every item. Even the water was presented in a nice carafe with mint leaves. Paying attention to the details made a big difference in the enjoyment of the meal. My Chai Tea Latte was very good and beautifully created. Even the cup was unique, as you'll see in the photo. The main selections were, as follows: Freekeh Bowl (Freekeh base, arugula, avocado, chicken kabob, grilled vegetables, chick peas, cherry tomato, and hummus). I cannot give enough kudos to this bowl. It was fresh, LARGE, filling, and every ingredient was an absolute delight to enjoy. This was the first time that I had "Freekeh." In case anyone is curious if it's better than rice, here you go: Yes, freekeh is generally considered more nutritious and healthier than rice. It boasts more fiber, protein, iron, and other minerals compared to both white and brown rice. Freekeh also tends to have a lower glycemic index, which can be beneficial for blood sugar control. The next item was the Avocado Toast (avo mash, roasted tomato, fried egg, feta, sourdough). The last item was Egg & Cheese. The buttery bread was incredible, as well as the generous amount of both egg and cheese. I am very glad, that I visited Jackie Smalls, and recommend it to every Yelper. read more

The staff and owners are very pleasant and attentive. The price point for the food is overpriced. The quality of their food is good but the price a bit more than the quality. The on-line prices are not the same as in the restaurant. The restaurant prices are higher but I guess they haven't updated as of yet. An example: I ordered a few times the breakfast beef scramble which cost $18.... The on-line is $16. Anyway, the beef amount is so small... as if they got a teaspoon of ground beef and sprinkled it atop the scrambled eggs. Again, the food is good, mostly different than your usual diner but I wish they would either come a bit down on price or even better, charge a bit more and include more on the premium ingredients such as the beef. The coffee is not unlimited. You buy your coffee and if you want more, you buy again. A good place. Will go back but not very often. read more

i've been a huge fan of jackie's grillette in montclair forever so it was finally time for me to try jackie smalls. the menu is really similar to the other locations but its smaller (duh) and brunchier. the BLTA was one of the best sandwiches i've had and we will definitely be back to eat the heavenly bread again. i have to say i was disappointed in the shakshuka though. i didn't enjoy the flavor profile of the spices and i had agita all afternoon. i'm obviously alone in this opinion due to the rave reviews and even my husband devoured the whole dish and loved it, but if you have a more sensitive tummy i would pick something else! read more

I've been to Jackie Smalls a few times now. The food is always really good and the staff is nice, but I can never QUITE get there with it because of the environment/location. I decided to stop by yesterday (a Friday) for lunch a little after 1pm. I'm in Little Falls basically one town over, and yet it's rare I drive into Wayne. Honestly, it's one of my least favorite activities - there's always a ton of traffic, a gazillion stoplights, and what on paper should be a 10-minute drive is closer to 20 to 25 minutes. It's just the worst. Jackie Smalls didn't invent Wayne, but it's tough to summon up the enthusiasm for the place when the journey to get there isn't pleasant. And that for sure includes the chaotic parking lot it's in, right next to the Whole Foods. Jackie Smalls is sort of tucked away in the back, which means you also have to drive across/through most of the parking lot to get there. Yesterday wasn't too bad in that regard, to be fair, though the area immediately in front of Jackie's was pretty crowded and I opted to park closer to Valley Road instead and walk a little longer. No big deal. I'll take my steps where I can get them. Jackie Smalls is the right name - it's a pretty tiny establishment with minimal seating. Every time I've attempted to come here (and I'll admit, it's almost always during what should be a normal/busy time), there has never been sit-down table availability and yesterday was no different. They also get a ton of pick-up order traffic, so the entrance area is constantly busy. As soon as I saw the situation, I went up to the counter and ordered the Breakfast Burrito and a Blueberry Scone to go instead of rolling the dice and putting my name in for a seat. So it goes. The gentleman at the counter was very nice though, which to me was notable given that he was clearly super busy and juggling a handful of obligations. And the scone was provided immediately, so I at least had that to munch on while I sat near the door and waited for the burrito. The scone was good; probably my favorite characteristic of a good scone is sugar granules on the top, and this had that in spades. Decent size and consistency, and while it was a little crumbly, that goes with the territory. The only part I wasn't crazy about (and this is a personal preference) is that I don't like fruit scones where the berry inside is liquid/melting. Not an ideal texture for me. But I'd get this one again, and from what I recall, they usually have a few other edgy options that I was probably too late in the day for. A strong pastry game overall, which is a big benefit when you have a lot of casual walk-in traffic there to just grab a quick coffee. The burrito was ready to go within 10 minutes, noteworthy given how busy it was; whatever is happening behind the scenes is working. This was the one savory item on the menu that really jumped out at me because I'm not a big Mediterranean cuisine person, and it's a tasty one. The decision to bypass a meat in favor of potatoes gives it an interesting texture (though calorically, it might be a wash, but I don't think anyone eating a burrito has any business making direct eye contact with a scale any time soon) and the cheddar cheese provides an important moistness given that this doesn't have any condiments/sauces inside. I can completely understand why this place has almost universally perfect ratings; when the food and service are high quality, it's hard to go wrong. But for me, the congestion both inside and outside this place is just enough of a deterrent where it's honestly going to be a while before I come back. I'm rooting for them to get a second, more convenient location. read more

I have had my eyes on this spot for a bit and was finally able to snag a table with only a 15 min wait. Very fresh, clean atmosphere and the nicest staff! So you get seated and have to go up to the counter where you order your meal drinks etc. I am unsure about their tipping policy but I just added 20% on my bill at checkout. Ordered a iced latte and a chai tea latte which was beautiful crafted and equally divine! And the french toast ate huge slabs of deep fried baguette marinated in a sweet cinnamony rub! The rose infused whip cream are clouds of heaven ! 10/10! For the grand finale their shakshuka is out of this world! Its authentic and delicious. Savoury with that hint of spice and perfect sunny side up eggs, the fresh toasted sourdough is epic! This is the spot! Really worth the wait! Highly recommended! Cute little place with a great atmosphere. Went on a Saturday morning around 11am and there was a 30 minute wait (which was true to the minute). Lovely lady came and put a water bottle with mint leaves in it. Very tasty. There were so many items on the menu that I wanted to try but ended up with the shashukska. Finally got to check out Jackie Smalls, which came highly recommended by my mom! They were surprisingly busy on a Thursday (late) morning, but I was able to grab a table right away. The interior was bright and modern, with minimal decor aside from the plants. They had table service, but you seat yourself and order/pay at the counter. The menu didn't have any specialty coffee drinks, so I got an Iced Coffee with almond milk (very standard, nothing special). For food, I chose the Shakshuka and Blueberry Scone. The Blueberry Scone had a great texture and wasn't too dry or too sweet. The girl at the counter said the other two scone flavors were sweeter, and those looked great too. The Shakshuka was good, but not the best of my life. The spiced tomato sauce was flavorful and the eggs were cooked perfectly. However, parts of the dish were very watery and I wish I had more than two pieces of sourdough toast to soak it up. I did like the little cubes of feta through! I would probably try one of the grain bowls next time, since those looked more unique. Service was fast and friendly! read more

Had a 20-25 min wait for a table for 3 (they offered table for two which would have been tight but tried to be helpful) Decor of this places is very different then the rest of the outside shops. I ordered a Green Boost juice which was great, the small was plenty for me. The Big Bang sandwich was incredible, from the soft bread to chicken and cheese. The sandwich stayed together incredible well and was a balance of so many flavors. The scones (blueberry not photoed) and chocolate were. Incredibly fresh, sweet with a hint of salt Staff were all very friendly and you could tell where doing their best to keep everyone happy. Today I went to Jackie Smalls, a restaurant, in Wayne New Jersey it's Mediterranean influenced menu with speciality drinks. The specialty drinks would be coffee drinks, a juice bar or smoothies. I did my little menu preview before I got there and I went there after a workout so I got a green boost juice it had kale, celery, lemon ginger, cucumber apple. Wow let me tell you how delicious and refreshing it was!!! The staff was very friendly and welcomed me very warmly. The restaurant is small, he did asked me if I was dining in but it was a bit full so we decided not to stay. The colors inside are neutral colors and very organized and clean. They were definitely busy! The prices were fair not overly expensive for fresh juice. Next time I have a bit more time I'm looking forward to eating breakfast there ! Everything I've tried from Jackie Smalls has been phenomenal. Their omelette with truffle home fries was delicious and not greasy at all, and the shakshuka was so flavorful and comforting (along with the thick-cut sourdough toast). Grains of Nazareth was everything I wanted--jammy eggs, creamy labneh with harissa, and a heaping portion of lentil/rice (I did end up adding a side of bacon, which lent a refreshing crunch to it all). Meanwhile, I am addicted to their blueberry scone! So fluffy, and with whole fresh blueberries! The chai felt quite mellow, so it's good for people who may not want too much spice. read more

I stopped in for a solo breakfast on a Friday. The staff are welcoming and willing to explain menu items which was helpful as it was my first visit. I ordered a Chai tea latte and Shakshuka. I was pleasantly surprised by the latte art. It wasn't just pretty, it was also delicious. I was also provided with a carafe of refreshing mint water.
