I wrote a review of the restaurant, but when I found my receipt, I remembered the waitress's name, Sierra, who helped us and took care of us. I wanted to say, if the restaurant is reading this: Keep her! Give the woman a raise! Seriously, she was the best, and she was very proud of the menu, the ideas behind the fresh cut fries, the sauces, the pickles... All of this made this Phat One... Breakfast outdoors in charming Cottage Grove on the main drag. Got there right at 9:00 am when they opened. Found 2 hour street parking right across from the restaurant. Nice small group of tables outside some of which have umbrellas for shade. The menu is very nice with a good number of options that are vegan friendly. I ended up ordering the salmon plate which had a nice portion of perfectly cooked salmon topped with a couple onion slices and some avocado. Subbed out a fruit bowl for the potatoes and toast and added a couple more eggs and a sausage patty to round out. Really good coffee that the server kept topped up for me. Very impressed for a small diner with the food prep, the atmosphere, and the Service. Everything all in with tip was about $40. There's a few places like this in cottage Grove, but I definitely recommend you give this one a try. read more

We rode our bikes with our friends into Cottage Grove from Baker Bay Campground at Dorena Lake. Great ride! Our friend Dan chose Jack Sprat's. We sat outside at a sidewalk table. The menu has pretty good variety. I ordered the Stuffed Poblano. The description looked like it was missing something so I ordered cheese to go on it. Flavor-wise it was ok. The chicken wasn't seasoned very well. There was a huge amount of sweet potato cubes with it. I like sweet potatoes but it was just too much and overpowered the dish. The temperature of my food wasn't hot but just warm...was it sitting around on the pass too long? I didn't like that but I didn't go to the trouble of sending it back. My husband got the Beans and Rice with the chicken breast on top, like what came on mine. He liked his well enough. Our other friend is a wanna-be-healthy guy and a vegetarian so he got Trust Your Gut. It had avacado, sauerkraut, tempeh, and...I don't know what else. You can scrutinize the picture if you want. He liked his. But since I'm the one giving the star rating, I'm giving it a 3. If we are ever in Cottage Grove again I want to try somewhere else. read more

I make lots of trips up to Oregon from California and this is one of my favorite stops on road trips. Beyond the fact that Cottage Grove's downtown is historic and rich with movie-making history, this little cafe is great. Friendly service and delicious food. I've tried several menu items and never been disappointed. Great atmosphere and delicious coffees and teas also. Definitely will return again and again. read more

I don't know. Maybe Jack Spratt (JS) owners don't realize how difficult it is to survive nowadays. Maybe they are so 'well off' they don't care how others survive to live. Maybe they should know that going out to eat is a treat for us simple folk and should be considered as so by those that are being paid to attend to our meals.. Tonight was a waste of my money. Money I seldom get to share with others as it is so difficult to earn. My burger, a simple 'Plain Jane' was hard, burnt, and over cooked to the point of cadaver lab material; not what I ordered. My fries, known normally to be excellent, where so over saturated in oil, fried at the wrong temperature, causing them to be dripping in grease, rock hard, desert like, even almost burnt. I told my server and he had excuses but, seriously, " the cook was on break" was a poor excuse. He was too busy to care. This isn't my first rodeo with JS but, it will be my last. And as a business owner in this town on main street no less, like 5 doors down, I won't recommend JS, ever. Until at least an apology for the schotty food is spoken. The restaurant was amazing, had an old Pac-Man the kids could play free. I also loved the art they have for sale displayed all over! The servers were so attentive and kind! There were a lot of gluten free options, including onion rings! They tasted great when I first ate them, but my stomach started hurting soon after. This could be because greasy stuff will do this to me. The prices were not the same as the kids menu showed, but the waitress changed them for me. It's a diner style place but the art makes it more comfortable and homey. read more

This is a great little restaurant with a cool atmosphere, local art, and delicious food. Everything I have ever eaten here has been very good. Burgers and fries great, grilled cheese sandwiches great, pasta dishes very good, salmon dish wonderful, even the salads are very good! Always stop by when you are in town. Plus they sell Sweet Cheeks Resiling which is excellent too! Buy a glass! Or bottle. I Highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Cozy corner cafe with a great little lineup of food. I enjoyed pondering the selections, but the three of us settled on burgers. The selections are off the beaten path - which is good! Looking for lunch on our road trip and saw the good ratings here. Wanted to out of out of the typical fast foods. Parking was easy and seated quickly. Wait staff were very friendly. Food was better than fast food but not amazing. Kids burger doesn't come with any veggies, and only realized after the food came. Sweet potato fries were a tad too salty and were huge/thick; not really my style. Cajun Chicken salad was a bit lacking on the greens and chicken a bit too salty. Tasty though and appreciate that they had the dressing on the side despite me forgetting to mention that. Husband said the club sandwich was just ok. Lots of patrons during lunch, so a popular spot. The salmon and asparagus were cooked perfectly and the potato cakes were perfectly crisp. The flavor of the dish was spot on and everything worked really well together. Once again, Jack Sprats delivers! It had been seven years (WOW time flies) since I'd been there. We were promptly seated, given the option of ground level or upstairs. I ordered the Plain Jane burger with fries, added cheddar cheese to the burger. I had forgotten to request no mayo, and when our server passed I flagged her down and asked if it was too late to make the change. She was friendly, checked, and made the change. When the food arrived, in a timely manner, I asked her for a side of BBQ sauce. Again, no issue at all, brought it quickly. BTW, the BBQ sauce is AWESOME...not sure whose they use, but it's really good. The burger was cooked perfectly, the fries were hot and super crispy. I think that they have the best fries of anywhere I've eaten. In short, perfect meal, perfect service! I need to eat there more often! read more

My second visit for a late, light lunch. We shared an order of Sprat rolls and an order of coconut shrimp. My partner had the ice tea and I had a coffee. Service was prompt, polite and casual. Everything here is casual except the cuisine which is humble but excellent. The ambience is casual, artsy hipster. I'm inclined to think the operation (health food/ organic) is third generation 60's back to the land hippies (like myself) who moved to Cottage Grove so many years ago. You will see local produce, local food maybe local live music. Its my kinda happy place. If you are into a chill experience this is your place- check it out. Just had lunch at this place at the recommendation of some friends. They had a Reuben and thought it was the best they've ever had. It is grilled with cheese on the outside of the bread. I had the Cajun chicken salad with chipotle ranch dressing. I would get it again. I got a merrionberry cupcake to go, so will try that later. The service was exceptional, all the staff were very friendly, considering the number in our party changed 3 times! Overall, the place had a wonderful small town atmosphere. Love this place! I went here for my birthday celebration with a couple of my best friends. I have been here before, but it had been several years. I remembered that they had good food, so I suggested we go there for lunch. I'm so glad we did, it was even better than I remembered. The food was excellent. I had the hot honey chicken sandwich. It was so delicious that I can't wait to go again soon and have the same thing. I had the fries for my side and they are probably the best I've ever had. Yum! My friends loved their food items as well. I know one person had the Mac and cheese. The service was impeccable. The servers were very thoughtful and accommodating. Checking on us more than usual, but not to much. The restaurant is very clean and tidy, with artwork on the walls making it homey and not too stark. All in all it was a fabulous place to go, and worth the 40min. drive for home. I can't wait to eat there again really soon. read more

Unbelievable.... I came back to town to be with my mother & extended family who flew in to support my mother after the passing of my step-father, and joined them at Jack Sprats for dinner... a business who my step-father supported in a huge way. I decided to splurge after the excruciating two weeks I've limped through....I ordered the steak, medium. It was served to me RARE. The server was cold to begin with, but when I asked if she would send it back to cook longer, she rolled her eyes and took it back. When it came back out, it was *visibly* NOT COOKED ANY LONGER. When she finally came back to offer our table boxes, I asked if she would take the meal off the ticket, and take the bloody piece of meat away. She brought the check out to the table, and we saw that she took $19 off the check, but not a $7 charge for the side of sautéed garlic that came with the steak I could not eat. My sweet aunt's steak was also grossly undercooked, but she was starving and couldn't wait to finally be checked on again. Bad taste in everyone's mouth at this point... When I asked for the manager...guess who. It was our SERVER. She then proceeded to try convincing me that the photo of my steak that I took--in disbelief--was taken before I sent the steak back the first time... She then had the AUDACITY to say: "That's how we cook our steaks medium here"...." You need to lower your voice, and leave the premises" ...ARE. YOU. KIDDING. ME.... My voice was already low, but this arrogant, inhospitable person was incapable of providing a basic level of decent customer service She then asked the head cook to look at the photo, who said, reluctantly..."that's definitely not medium... ... (she looks at him like his job is on the line) but it's not rare..." So I said "thank you, good night." And I went back to my mourning family and told them I had to leave the premises.
