Steak and Frites + Burger and Salad
Kylie H.

Hubby and I went on a Tuesday a little after regular dinner time. Hubby's steak was good but the rest of it was mid and expensive for what you're getting. Not much flavor to my burger at all. The salad was pretty good as it had a lot of toppings but when I asked for tomatoes, they said they didn't have tomatoes. And not just ran out for the day. They don't have tomatoes at all! That was baffling to me and quite a disappointment. Drinks were okay. But they had a large selection of liquor and I appreciated the break down of what they offered on the drink menu. The rest of the old building was very unsettling. There was only 1-2 other tables and maybe a guy at the bar at the time and the vibes felt very unnerving. Hubby went to the bathroom and said it felt super weird and creepy. It was enough to convince me to hold it until we got home. I'm sure its a cool venue when theres music and more people but this time, it didn't win me over.

Sweet potato tot

23/11/23 Day before Thankgiving. We wanted some quick dinner and my in-laws highly recommends their clam chowder. First & foremost, service was outstanding, a great pair of hostess and bartender running the whole show. My hubby & I ordered their very scrumptious clam chowder which included 2 slices of wonderful Sourdough bread. We also love the side order of sweet potato tots. Looking forward to trying other items on their menu next we visit. I also highly recommend their House Ginger Soda - so refreshing.

Spiked lemonade, spicy margarita, cherry smash

Great food, and amazing staff. Spicy margaritas are the best! Will definitely return on our annual trip.

While visiting Cottage Grove we decided to walk old downtown and have a cocktail before walking around to find a good dinner place. The Ax & Fiddle was a great find! Our hostess, Abbey was amazing! She told us a little about each food item while we were waiting for our cocktails and decided on the Cornmeal Crusted Artichoke Hearts. THEY.WERE.SO.YUMMY. Its a big serving so we were glad we are splitting their Bear Burger. Perfectly cooked with great taste the tillamook sharp cheese really added to it! Part of this building & restaurant is a huge bookstore. You could literally wander through this area for hours. Awesome set up! if you are visiting Cottage Grove this is a great place for dinner and drinks.

Mushroom Swiss Burger, fries and an IPA
Monty S.

Well, yes indeed I payed Axe and Fiddle a visit today and ordered up a Mushroom Swiss Burger and fries. The burger was really great and done to perfection but the fries, not so much. In my opinion they were well over done. They were so crispy they were hard to chew and had a slight burnt taste to them. There are those who might like their fries done like that but I'm not one of them at all. The place with really clean and homey and I really liked their choice of background music. Then there was the bathroom. When I walked in I was overcome with a strong smell of urine then I found that the urinal wouldn't flush. Sorry guys, that will be another gig. Dang it, I wanted to give them 5 stars but my experience today just wasn't that great.

Monday night $2 drafts with a burger. Best burger ever!

With that meal you will experience actual satisfaction and contentment. That's the first thing I have to say in case you're reading for a recommendation of what to order. Even better if you have it late night after experiencing the best Handel's Messiah concert at the Hult in December. I had a small slider of corned beef along with his amazing fresh Kale salad garnish with shaved Parmesan, walnuts, added protein -- sausage. It came with a toasted slice of soda bread that was great. But the slider was how I realized the corned beef was PERFECTLY prepared. A taste was not enough; I decided to get the dinner plate version to take the next day up to Seattle with me. Fantastic staff included Barkeep Illyia, whose birthday it was. She kept up a steady stream of attentive care, skillful service, friendly banter with each of the clients that came in and said good by to them as they left. Hospitality was her middle name. Love that they have mugs for the regulars hanging from the ceilings, the bar space is great but so are the arm chairs and cushioned seats in the corners of the pub. I even ran into two other concertgoers who had also been so energized after the Messiah concert that they didn't want to go home. We spent a half hour at the bar unpacking the highs and best points of the performance by the Eugene Symphony Orchestra, and the symphony choir, and each of the soloists. We also unanimously agreed the tenor was fantastic, the baritone a paragon of artistic talent, the soprano sang incandescently, and that the final AMEN movement was soul healing and mind blowing simultaneously. Yeah. It was that good. This place was the right place to come to unpack it all over a Guinness and the best corned beef and cabbage in town. Love that it was open late enough to enjoy after the concert. Will be back.

It was thick slab corned beef, perfectly tender. I also got their pretzel with the beer cheese sauce. To be honest, the beer cheese wasn't my favorite...was a little gooopy and the texture wasn't great. But, the pretzel was fantastic. It has the salt, the chew, and it was a great size. I also got their colcannon. It was great! Creamy and delicious. I ordered their brown gravy too because I like gravy with my potatoes and it was hearty and a big side for the price. All in all, i definitely recommend the pint pot!

The beers are experimental and creative with their beers making some pretty unusual beers that taste great! We have had three of their beers so far on two separate occasions and both times the beers were very impressive and enjoyable! One of the beers we had was the Thumb Ring. A Wild Ale that was excellent. It was aged on peaches, blackberries and coconut. Flavors featured with this beer are tartness, peachy, cherry and a hint of purposeful mustiness. Wit Bat was another beer we had. Also a Wild Ale this beer was wonderful also! Flavors to find with this Ale are tartness and jam like. The jam like qualities come from the marionberries and the Coriander brings it an extra depth. A very effervescent and elegant Ale. The third beer we had was the Earl of Tenmile. This was a Sour Ale with flavors of tart, sour, some sweetness and a clean finish. It is a blend of two and four year spontaneously fermented Ales. Such great beers and ales Draper has to offer and I would love to continue to explore with more of their beverage options which I hope would be in the near future.
