The outside and even the front entry give the vibe of a "hole in the wall" so we were prepared to simply fill our stomachs, especially since we arrived "after the grill was closed" which in this case simply meant that the head cook had left. But a very, very pleasant hostess assured us everything on the menu was still up for grabs. We sat down in the front cafe, which has that feeling of a place that's been around since the 1970's and only occasionally renovated. Given my fifty years of restaurant experience, I was still in the mindset of being content just to have something to eat, so long as it was edible. My wife and I both were blown away. I forget what she had but it was "the best one she had ever had", and my barbeque sandwich was absolutely delicious. The crinkle-cut fries were hot, just crispy enough. Our expectations were exceeded by a mile, and it wiped away any preconceived notions I may have had by looking at the restaurant's physical presence. Our hostess, name forgotten but I hope she remembers being on duty on Wednesday the 13th and making our night, was always smiling, always gracious; and despite her having to attend to the back of the restaurant where the bar was located, she never left us hanging. The icing on the cake was the price! A comparable BBQ-and-fries anywhere in my hometown of Redmond, OR, is easily 17 bucks these days. My meal at The Grove was $12.99, a solid four dollars less expensive and yet still superb, everything I like in a BBQ sandwich and fries. Obviously I cannot speak to the daytime staff, or the barroom experience, but my wife and I left extremely happy and satisfied, and if we ever pass through Cottage Grove again, The Grove will be our first choice for grabbing a meal.

Just moved to town just a little over a month ago and decided to check this place out…read more First off the owner Bart is a real kind and down to earth fella. Really nails that small town vibe. One of the Bartenders, Jennifer is a real sweet gal and she works hard to make sure everyone is taken care of. I wasn't planning to eat but the feller sitting next to me ordered a good looking burger, but I was feeling chicken so I tried the blackened chicken sandwich and by golly it was sure fantastic. The tater tots are seasoned up real well and the chicken was full of flavor, layered with bacon. The bar itself is clean, well organized, with plenty of space. The stage hosted a man with a guitar that evening and he put on quite a show. Dart board upstairs is a fine addition . This is a smaller town watering hole done right. A great place to wind down after a long work week.

This place should honestly count their days. It's gone so far downhill. The prices are absurd…read more That's not why though. We went there as a group and ordered grilled cheese from the kids menu for the little ones. The food came out maybe an hour later and it literally looked like they just put slices of cheese on bread. No grill. Nothing. The best part was when I went to the bar area to ask them to actually grill it..... a RAT ran under my feet and quickly ran behind the bar. It was unbelievable.

Burgers and fries great, grilled cheese sandwiches great, pasta dishes very good, salmon dish wonderful, even the salads are very good! Always stop by when you are in town. Plus they sell Sweet Cheeks Resiling which is excellent too! Buy a glass! Or bottle. I Highly recommend this restaurant.

The menu has pretty good variety. I ordered the Stuffed Poblano. The description looked like it was missing something so I ordered cheese to go on it. Flavor-wise it was ok. The chicken wasn't seasoned very well. There was a huge amount of sweet potato cubes with it. I like sweet potatoes but it was just too much and overpowered the dish. The temperature of my food wasn't hot but just warm...was it sitting around on the pass too long? I didn't like that but I didn't go to the trouble of sending it back. My husband got the Beans and Rice with the chicken breast on top, like what came on mine. He liked his well enough. Our other friend is a wanna-be-healthy guy and a vegetarian so he got Trust Your Gut. It had avacado, sauerkraut, tempeh, and...I don't know what else. You can scrutinize the picture if you want. He liked his. But since I'm the one giving the star rating, I'm giving it a 3. If we are ever in Cottage Grove again I want to try somewhere else.

The decor feels arbitrary and hasn't grown in the 3 years between my visits. The bartop is tiny despite plenty of wide open space in the venue, adding to that empty feeling. But it's the only tiki bar for miles and it has a unique tiki + horror theme that I appreciate: emphasizing creepy mugs, playing vintage Godzilla on the TV, and a collection of drinks named after monsters. They also have custom mugs for sale, which is always awesome to see. My partner enjoyed her Chinese Mai Tai, but my Bride of Frankenstein tasted like light cream. The service was good. They were professional and personable and bantered well with everyone around the bar. There seemed to be plenty of regulars making the rounds in the early afternoon. So if you're in Eugene and want a tiki drink, this is the place to go.
