McKenzie Station Pub has some of the best food I've had in a while absolutely amazing flavors that made the visit worth it. I was seated right away, which was great, but the service was a bit underwhelming. It took about 20 minutes before anyone came over to take our order, and they weren't even that busy at the time. That being said, once the food arrived, it more than made up for the wait. If you're willing to overlook slower service, the food here is definitely worth trying. read more

OMG! Hidden Gem! Rustic Quaint atmosphere. Good Vibe all the way around. Food delicious, I had a hamburger and it was probably the best I have ever had. My husband had the brisket sandwich and he loved it. Our friend had the brisket hamburger with potato salad, he said it was delicious as well. The service was excellent, and fast! I enjoy the vibes but lots are left to be desired here with food and service. We had a reservation but it took fifty minutes just to get our entrees. Our waitress forgot to put in our cocktail order so we waited about 30 minutes for those. The margarita actually was quite good! For dinner I had the steak. Oof! Definitely not medium rare. Pretty good flavor but super tough and no steak knives which made it very hard to cut. The sides it came with - mushrooms/onions, asparagus, and garlic mashed potatoes were the best part. If you are old enough, the only summary you need is the intro to U2's Desire... Yeah!... you understand, now go get the burger! For the rest of you... this is a very nice little spot to hang out when you are done hiking, kayaking, or otherwise playing in the woods. I have been a few times, and I have always found the food excellent, especially the smoked meat. I highly recommend the brisket burger shown... enough so I am now contemplating making the hour drive into the hills for another taste! Inside the pub is friendly, family-oriented, and a definite gathering place if a favored game is on. I prefer to sit outside in the mountain air and enjoy the trees while I eat, but to each his/her own. Nice people, a bit understaffed, and can be a little pricey, but well worth a visit. read more

What a gem! We were staying in a cabin across the street,and thought we'd try the McKenzie Pub. Wow,so glad we did! Decor was cute and kitschy; so much to look at! Service was spot on and friendly. My husband ordered the Pan Seared Salmon. He declared that it was some of the best salmon he'd ever had,and he's picky! I ordered the Garlic Shrimp that was very tasty. We are already planning our next stay on the McKenzie, and we will definitely be dining here again! Just have to remember that they're closed on Mondays. Great meal! read more

When you are up in this area your choices are limited but, I assure you, this is a SOLID choice. I have been here twice while visiting the hot springs about 5 miles away. Each time I have visited they have been busy and you can see the locals frequent here which is always a great sign. The decor is eclectic and the chairs and tables are a smash up of styles but it adds to the charm of the place. Service is always fast and friendly. I ordered the salmon which was cooked perfectly and had a delicious sauce served with it. The star of their menu though is the burgers. They are perhaps the best burger ever according to my friend who ordered one. I have to admit, I had a little order envy. The great news is that I will definitely be back and try one myself next time. They also have a coffee shop attached to the restaurant which was a nice bonus for a specialty coffee vs gas station coffee. read more

Instantly we felt like the "regulars" who also started to arrive shortly after. Summary: We will return, either as a destination trip, perhaps an overnighter or passing through. Either way, we'll make a point of coming back. Our experience was that good. With cool temps, and about 1200 tight curves winding through the pass for 3.5 hours of riding, we knew exactly what we wanted A BURGER!!! If you're a carnivore... well, this is your spot! One of the BEST BURGERS you'll ever enjoy. The staff were all gracious, polite and accommodating helping tune in the Red Sox playoff game while greeting guests and serving the specials of the day ...Brisket smoked for hours, $3 margaritas and BBQ ribs. We selected a brisket burger with an extra slice of brisket on top...layered on a bed of homemade pickles. Also a blue cheese (Blue Pool Burger) with bacon. Both burgers cooked perfectly and with exceptional flavor. We wished we could have enjoyed a cocktail and stayed overnight. GO visit - it's worth it. THE BURGER. Yes, friends - this is the home of the BEST BURGER IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. And I've had a lot of burgers - from Tokyo to Honolulu to Seattle to New York. The Bleu Pool Bacon Mushroom Burger is the most amazing experience you'll ever have. Buttery soft bun with a crispy outside and fluffy inside - I would get this from the bun ALONE...and I'm not a huge bread person. Thick-cut bacon. Mushrooms that are NOT the boring sauteed button mushrooms, but are golden, firm, I-have-no-idea-what-they've-done-to-them-but-these-are-amazing little chunks of heaven. A thick patty that is so juicy you will be dribbling down your front. I swear it is beef AND pork mixed together, fresh ground on-site. Melting chunky blue cheese crumbles gluing it all together. Quickly slide off the raw onion, the lettuce, and the tomato - this burger doesn't need it. There's probably LSD in this burger because it will make you dream of it for the next year. I can't forget it, and it's been a year since I last had it. (*just had to wipe off some dribbles down my front*) I have no need to review any other other food at this restaurant because THIS IS IT. This place was recommended to us by the front desk clerk at Belknap Hot Springs. She said all the staff goes and they love the food and atmosphere. My wife and I tried it the first night of our stay and liked it so much that we went back the next day with our family party of eight. It was good both nights. The Brisket Fries were so very good! The NY Steak was full of flavor and cooked to perfection and came topped with delicious Mushrooms and Caramelized Onions. My wife's Tri-Tip Dip was worth coming back for seconds. A mix of locals (forest people, old hippies, working class folks) and visitors makes for a diverse crowd. Getting (many) brisket sandwiches here is one of the reasons I visit the area- seriously. Been a few times and finally decided to leave a review. The three stars are for the food- really good burgers and decent prices on food and beer. Atmosphere smells and looks like a dingy basement at grandmas house with extra mismatched furniture and fixtures that are stored there. It's dirty and has no theme at all. And with doilies and dirty tacky tables cloths as well as a musty carpet, it's not the best atmosphere. Service has been hit or miss, mostly misses with the owner who is short and doesn't know what friendly service means. Seriously, I think she intentionally tries not to smile and looks at you and talks to you you're wasting her time. With a lot of cleaning, clearing of excess clutter, and some TLC, as well as some serious improvement to friendly service, this place could be a great place to go to. For us, after 4 visits, the food as good as it is, isn't worth it, except to-go. read more

My wife and I stopped off one afternoon while we were traveling in the area and decided to give this place a try. When we walked in we were the only people in the joint, and when we walked in it a bit confusing, is it a bar? is it a restaurant? is it a store? As it turned out the answer was yes, it was all of these. The lady that was working said we could sit any where and eventually brought over our menus. I will say that the lady that helped us was not overly friendly by any sense, my wife asked her a question about the menu and the lady just seemed annoyed. Actually toward the end of the meal a younger guy started helping us and he was much more friendly. As for the food, my wife ordered a chicken salad wrap with potato salad, and I ordered a grilled club and clam chowder. I will say this about the place, the food was pretty tasty and the price wasn't bad. My wife chicken salad was a bit on the sweeter side but it was very good and the potato salad was great too. I really enjoyed my sammich too and the chowder was nice and creamy. So would I go back? Typically for 3 star places that is a probably not for me but I really did enjoy the food, and the chances of me being in this area again is pretty slim. Had our waitress been a little for friendly (Or had we had the young kid the whole time) I probably would have given it 4 stars and would consider a return trip. But we would probably try someplace new in the future. read more

The woman working there--maybe the hostess? maybe the owner who is completely clueless as to the meaning of customer service and word of mouth?--rather than greeting us, instead told us they were all out of coffee beans, so couldn't make us a coffee drink. We said no problem, we were there for lunch. She then snapped at us--as if we were being ridiculous to expect a restaurant would be serving lunch at 12:30--that they don't serve lunch until 1:00. I understand that restaurants are short staffed right now, and that people who ARE working might be overworked and overstressed, but this woman was openly hostile to us for absolutely no reason. The only reason I'm giving this place a second star is that her uncalled for rudeness forced us to turn on our heels, walk out the door, and drive down the road a ways to Vida Cafe, which was fantastic! read more

Our first time there we were a little put off by our server, she was a bit rude. The food however was quite good, enough for us to come back. Our second visit was much better. The same server seemed to be in a much better mood and was far more attentive and pleasant. The smoked brisket is what brought us back. It is very good. In my experience out west, smoked meats done properly seem to be elusive. making this a true gem. The portion of meat could be healthier but it is adequate.
