Food is alright but sevice is terrible .. I asked for decaf coffee, was told it'll be a minute which was fine, I am a patient person. I eventually got my decaf but when waitress came back she topped off my husbands coffee and didn't bother to ask me if I wanted more and when I asked for a top off the reply I got was "no, you don't get anything when I have to specially brew for you" I thought she was joking because who tf treats customers like that. She brought us our check 10m later, still no coffee. We will never be back which is sad bc it's one of few local places we liked. read more

I ordered Arelene's version of a Denver omelette with toast but skipped the potatoes. I was cooked just right and very tasty. The coffee is good too. This old place started in 1958 and is still going strong. It was a perfect summer day for a ride north to the little hamlet of Elkton; once off the nasty freeway at Sutherlin, it was a great ride on the twisty highway through forested canyons and farms on the plateaus, occasionally riding along the Umpqua River; retuning on Bullock and Tyee roads---following the other side of the river more closely. read more

Arlene's Cafe is in the small town of Elkton. Elkton has a population of 182 and has a total area of 0.26 square miles, of which .03 square miles is water...and yet, they have a cafe like Arlene's. Arlene's has a small store you come into when you enter off the side street filled with snacks of all sorts, typical convenience store items and fishing paraphernalia with huge trophy fish hanging on the wall. You are greeted and shown to a table or they may say pick your own. The menu is pretty typical of any breakfast spot. There is something for most everyone. The food is just plain delicious. I had the fish and fries which came straight from the fryer. Perfectly crispy with good fish inside. Fries were also delicious. I wish I lived closer to Arlene's. Food, service and a cool diner vibe gives it a 5 star review. read more

We stopped on our way through Elkton, my husband has a small service dog. My husband is disabled this is very obvious by the use of his walker, he is a bilateral amputee. He is also a diabetic with End Stage Renal disease, clearly protected by the ADA ! As soon as we walked in with her in her carrier (he puts her on his walker seat and she sits next to him, he was trying to be respectful of the other customers that may not appreciate dogs around food) immediately the waitress (Rachel) told him that dogs are not allowed in the restaurant and he informed her that she is his service animal for medical reasons. She absolutely did not care! She said, his dog was still not allowed. We filed a discrimination complaint with the state of Oregon. read more

When you happen to get to Elkton Stop here at Arlene's for anything. I had the best fish and chips, they get fresh fish from the coast, the seasoned planco fries , awesome. My man had their big Loger burger and Loved it, calling it a destination eatery and we live in Portland and Newburg Oregon. That's a 5 hour drive for us. On a Wed this was the only inside seated place open for lunch. The place was homey, clean & attached to a small convenience store. Our waitstaff was friendly & helpful. The food was middle of the road, not the worst & not the best. From the fish sandwich to the patty melt to the burger there was little flavor, so we added salt, pepper or hot sauce to improve the taste. But everything was hot from the kitchen. I haven't had anything from the bar, but it's definitely on my to do list. As for the diner, their burgers are pretty solid. Their fries are lightly coated and always fresh. Staying in Elkton for the first time this past week and we could immediately tell our dining options were going to be few, but wanted to try out Arlene's for our first stop. As you walk in, you're immediately immersed into a casual dining experience where you may seat yourself and menus already on the table. Not only is Arlene's a cafe, they also serve the community by servicing a small attached store area where you put for your meals, they have lotto games and even a corner for fishing items! We loved this variety all in one place so much that we didn't even check out the other places in town, we came to Arlene's 3 days in a row for meals. They also had a list of pies for purchase and delicious looking ice cream cone area as well! The staff was always friendly with us and loved having us back, definitely that small town feel that we have a strong appreciation for. Been going here since I was a kid and NEVER disappointed. One warning, better be hungry because they are going to serve you a home cooked tasty meal and there's going to be a lot of it! My favorite item is the patty melt and it's the best I've ever had. Breakfast is always a great choice no matter what you order. If you want fancy schmancy go someplace else but if you want a meal that tastes like your granny cooked it this is your spot! For those who are whining about rude waitresses who don't make every person who walks through the door wear a mask, stop being whiny @sses! You're in logger country, we don't go to be coddled we go there for great food! If this statement offends you then you probably should just drive on by. We eat here every time we go through Elkton. The food is decent and the employees are pleasant. However, they seem to have a problem complying with the mandatory mask policy. Before I could even finish my breakfast, two separate people came strolling in without masks and nothing was said to them until I said something to our server. Apparently, the Owner does Not want the employees to say anything to anyone who walks in the door without a mask. The two people had to walk right by my table to get to the bathroom. I didn't feel comfortable enough to finish my meal so we went to pay the check. One of the men was standing right behind us when I said something to the cashier, and a woman beside us chimed in about how people were ignoring the mask rule and endangering other people's lives. That's when we found out about what the owner had told the employees. Guess they'll be losing our business. By the way ... we are paying customers and tip well. The other two just came in to use the bathroom and buy a pack of gum. read more

It's tough to give a 2-star rating here because the guy that waits tables, cooks and runs the store during breakfast time is a heck of a nice guy and puts his heart into running the place well and he does. This is the only place in town for an early breakfast and fishermen flock here before hitting the Umpqua for salmon/steelhead, as we did. The breakfast isn't bad, but it's a step down from Shari's and Elmer's (two Oregon staples). Meanwhile, in Elkton, there's no alternative. This is the best - and possibly - the only breakfast in town. What's wrong with it? Nothing. But, quality isn't great and if we are comparing to others in the general region, it does fall short. Our hash browns were lukewarm, however, the bacon was good and crispy and the eggs (we asked for over easy were over cooked). Was it edible? For sure. And, large portions, too. We stopped here on our way to the coast not expecting a lot. We eat here every time we drive through because of the name :). I am so glad we did today! Three of us stopped here for breakfast. The service was amazing - very friendly - the meal was delicious (and under $10 a person), and we hardly had to wait to get our food. The booths have been upgraded since we were here last. You would be surprised, it's a tiny little place- hole in the wall, it does indeed have a full bar. I was shocked! You go into the back area, which is also a general store, but ended up being a great little hole in the wall locale. It's definitely the go to place in this tiny town, was surprisingly packed. Sure, it was a Saturday night- but wow! There is a secret bathroom where the pool table is- I hear its better than the main bathrooms. I tend to like to to go to the bathroom when I stop, not hold it in. I really have to give a shout out to our little waitress- she was running the store & bartending with a smile!! Very efficient. Passable for food from a convenience store. Fails as a real diner or a place to get a cheap cup of joe (a drinkable cup of cheap coffee)/ For starters if you order a coffee at a real dinner you get drinkable coffee, and if you want some dairy ion your drink you can get a little bit of milk or creamnever been served served non-refrigerated creamer in a restaurarnt- reason being the chemical crap in these thimbles is not creamer, and it is highly cariogenic. This reamer tastes terrible, and the stuff is so bad, that I thought it had been eradicated by the mid-90's. It is crazy that anyone with a any morals'ehtics would serve this to another human being, and why would anyone bother unless think that it is cheaper to server a thimble of cancer than a splash of milk or cream in a coffee, Also ketchup and catsup - I wanted to put some on my fries- I picked up a crinkly plastic a very, very thin Heinz plastic bottle that was very crinkly- the bottle made noise just holding it. The label; was very faded and crackled to the point there was no color left in the sticker- I had to imagining that the "Heinz" had been marred for ages. A lot of people wonder whether marrying ketchup is against health codes- it should be because when you add sauce to old sauce- the new sauce gets contaminated by the old sauce, and it looked like the weird crappy crinkly bottle could have been years old. I have wasted a day hugging toilet after food poisoning from Heinz married in a McMenamin's- and when I say food poisoning I mean your body spewing out of both ends with a fever. When catsup is married- meaning pouring an old bottle into an old battle rather than throwing away the last little bit in both bottles- this practice meanings that the owner's free willing to pay Russian roulette with food poisoning their customers to save a few pennies. So, a big feature of this dinner is the buffet- a small buffet, which might be OK. but after seining the owner is too cheap to allow customers to have any real cream or milk for their cheap, cheap coffee, and their Catsup looks like a health food violation/biohazard I decided to only risk eating a mall apple- a mushy old way past ripe, a way past it's prime tiny apple. These cheapskates should avoid reading Yelp. One of the best uses of Yelp is to avoid terrible restaurants, which is far more important than finding the best. I appreciate knowing more where not to go than using Yelp for fine dining reviews. I gave this [place two stars instead of one because it is really more of a convenience store and compared to gas station/convince store food it is passable. read more

Our camping group went there for dinner and were pleasantly surprised at how good the service was and especially how yummy and hot! the food was when it got to our table. A far cry from the service at Tomacelli's next door. If you are new and wondering which restaurant to choose, you can't go wrong with Arlene's. And! Their donuts are from the Sugar Shack and MUCH better than the day old donuts Tomacelli's offers. read more

It's a cafe, a general store, and they have a limited supply of fishing gear. They also have a guide service! Not to mention miscellaneous items like books, plaques, all kinds of items. I bought some ice cream. It was Umpqua brand, in the freezer located as you go into the store. . Once I got it home, about 2 minutes away, I opened it up, and it tasted awful due to the freezer burn. I had a family member try it too, just to make sure. They said the same thing. I took it back to Arlene's for an exchange. The cashier that had sold the ice cream to me earlier said they don't usually give refunds, and then said in the future to go buy ice cream elsewhere since "their freezer never works right, Really, c'mon! read more

We stopped here passing through once again on the way back from camping. They were open right next to the cafe we really had wanted to go to but was closed. The bathroom here when we stopped was backed up though, so we used the one in their bar. I wanted some coffee, but I kinda didn't trust it so ended up buying a soda, which I don't normally drink. Also bought a couple of licorice tasting candies...those were yummy!! :) It was convenient and the customer service there pretty friendly.
