Arlene's Cafe is in the small town of Elkton. Elkton has a population of 182 and has a total area of 0.26 square miles, of which .03 square miles is water...and yet, they have a cafe like Arlene's. Arlene's has a small store you come into when you enter off the side street filled with snacks of all sorts, typical convenience store items and fishing paraphernalia with huge trophy fish hanging on the wall. You are greeted and shown to a table or they may say pick your own. The menu is pretty typical of any breakfast spot. There is something for most everyone. The food is just plain delicious. I had the fish and fries which came straight from the fryer. Perfectly crispy with good fish inside. Fries were also delicious. I wish I lived closer to Arlene's. Food, service and a cool diner vibe gives it a 5 star review.

Staying in Elkton for the first time this past week and we could immediately tell our dining options were going to be few, but wanted to try out Arlene's for our first stop. As you walk in, you're immediately immersed into a casual dining experience where you may seat yourself and menus already on the table. Not only is Arlene's a cafe, they also serve the community by servicing a small attached store area where you put for your meals, they have lotto games and even a corner for fishing items! We loved this variety all in one place so much that we didn't even check out the other places in town, we came to Arlene's 3 days in a row for meals. They also had a list of pies for purchase and delicious looking ice cream cone area as well! The staff was always friendly with us and loved having us back, definitely that small town feel that we have a strong appreciation for. One even recommended us to a fishing spot and we were not let down at all with that either! Love this place and the people, wish it was closer to home

Cheeseburger was perfect. Nicely toasted bun and juice burger. My wife had the grilled cheese. Atmosphere: slow day, waitstaff seemed stressed. Not the usual small town cheer you encounter, not rude either, just off a little. The pie did not taste homemade. I know peaches are out of season and the pies tasted store bought. I would still return. I may try a blackberry pie in August when I know they are in seasin

Great Breakfast. Stopped on the way home met friends for lunch. Our server as a Hoot and a half. Made our day. Good home cooking.

Had a great breakfast. Met friends late for lunch. Server we a Hoot and a half. Great place to stop going to or coming from Roseberg.

Server was warm and friendly. Food was good at a very reasonable price. Small classic diner feel.

Great food. We enjoyed the waitress very much. She was efficient with a great sense of humor. The adjoining mart was convenient.

Perfect little diner. Chicken fried steak and pancake did not disappoint. Looking forward to our next visit to Elkton.

I think our bartender's name was Alicia (if so, she was fantastic - if not, whoever it was deserves a medal). Friendly, quick, and made the whole place feel like home. It's got some 49ers vibes going on, so you've been warned (or welcomed, depending on your team colors). This is an old-school bar - started in the late 1800s - but it's packed with life. Lots of colorful, interesting locals, and just an all-around great group of people to share a drink with. Didn't try the food, so no comment there - but the atmosphere alone was worth the stop. The kind of place you wish you could come back to every weekend. If you're anywhere near Oakland, OR, and in the mood for history, laughs, and a cold drink, this is your spot.

Ordered mine hot and it came out toasty but the veggies weren't hot which I appreciated so much! Warm sammy and crisp veggies! The only lady working had a full bar but still seemed very attentive to both regulars and bypassers at the bar and in booths! Good job girl! I also appreciated a classic dive bar feel but the Oakland Tavern was clean and welcoming with a diverse age range of people from 21-75!

One of the Bartenders, Jennifer is a real sweet gal and she works hard to make sure everyone is taken care of. I wasn't planning to eat but the feller sitting next to me ordered a good looking burger, but I was feeling chicken so I tried the blackened chicken sandwich and by golly it was sure fantastic. The tater tots are seasoned up real well and the chicken was full of flavor, layered with bacon. The bar itself is clean, well organized, with plenty of space. The stage hosted a man with a guitar that evening and he put on quite a show. Dart board upstairs is a fine addition . This is a smaller town watering hole done right. A great place to wind down after a long work week.

We sat at the table for an hour with no service and no food, we watched multiple tables with the same amount of people come in, get their food, eat and leave before someone even checked on us. After an hour we eventually got up and left. They gave us our food in boxes but when we got home (maybe a 3 min drive) everything was soggy. My steak that's supposed to be rare was most definitely not, my boyfriend burger is extremely undercooked and the french dip was soggy and cold and they didn't add the sauce or the cheese. They put my salad in the same exact container as my steak and fries so it's extremely soggy and warm. I heard good stuff about this place but unfortunately was extremely disappointed and still had to pay $80+. I will not be coming back to this place and I am extremely worried about eating this food. It's completely un-edible.

You want an excellent, tender, as good as any bullshit upscale restaurant rib eye? You are going to get that on Friday night steak night. You want a thick, flavorful, real beef burger? They've got you covered. Some of the best burgers in southern Oregon, by the way. They also have a very fine steelhead sandwich, tender and moist. You want an okay salad, basic weekend breakfast? Check. Strong, basic drinks? Check. You want skilled wait staff that work their asses off but still get you and your pals taken care of? Double check. I moved out along the River one year ago and discovered the Narrows shortly after. While I may be one if those progressive, feminist, environmentalist, mask wearing transplant types, I knew I had arrived when Jenna, Cris, and the gang began greeting me by name when I walked through the door and also remembering my orders. Yep. If you can get past yourself long enough to chat with the locals you learn some interesting things, make some colorful friends, hear some memorable stories. Like the time a guy showed up to rob the joint, pulled his handgun out of his pocket, demanded cash, and instead found himself facing a formidable crowd, every one of whom had pulled their own guns on him to protect their beloved bartender. 911 was called. Everyone ordered another round. The night went on. Yep. You're at the historical Narrows along the North Umpqua River. Behave yourself and have a good time.
