I will not be a returning customer…read more We were excited to eat breakfast at a place we've never tried before in this small town, especially because it's locally owned and had two 5 star reviews. I called ahead to make sure they were open and they said they'd be open till 3pm for breakfast and brunch. We arrived @ 11am and were hungry for breakfast. This is a small town known for being a timber community, so we weren't expecting anything fancy, just a good traditional American breakfast. The restaurant itself seemed old and tired. The grime stuck on our table top had been there for a while, you could tell it hadn't been properly cleaned for at least a couple days, at least. (While writing this review, after the fact: I should have noticed the Health Score, listed on their Yelp page. You'd think they would actually deep clean, sanitize, and thoroughly go through their inventory after getting detailed feedback like that...) We were patient, not in a rush at all, just in need of some good food. The laminated menus were sticky. Our coffee was weak. I ordered a veggie skillet with sourdough toast. Our waitress asked how I'd like my eggs, which surprised me, so I said over-medium. I received scrambled eggs with lots of cheese and a scarce supply of veggies over potatoes, with a side of plain white toast. I was also served spoiled blackberry jam. I was told the Brother's Skillet was 'better than Denny's' so that doesn't say much... Ugh... overall it made me feel grossed out, sad, and disappointed.

I grabbed a chocolate croissant and a multi-grain sourdough loaf (a host gift) before continuing on my way. So glad I did! Friendly service, excellent baked goods, and in a homey spot. We ordered online and waited about 15 mins after the estimated time. The food was ok - we got the ham and veggie hot pockets and veggie hand pie, and sticky bun. We also purchased the ginger apple juice online but they didn't actually have it and just gave a plain apple juice (generic bottle), which was nothing special. The hot pockets and hand pies were unevenly seasoned - some were bland and others very salty. The sticky bun was kinda dry. Wouldn't go out of the way to get this in the future.

Nice small group of tables outside some of which have umbrellas for shade. The menu is very nice with a good number of options that are vegan friendly. I ended up ordering the salmon plate which had a nice portion of perfectly cooked salmon topped with a couple onion slices and some avocado. Subbed out a fruit bowl for the potatoes and toast and added a couple more eggs and a sausage patty to round out. Really good coffee that the server kept topped up for me. Very impressed for a small diner with the food prep, the atmosphere, and the Service. Everything all in with tip was about $40. There's a few places like this in cottage Grove, but I definitely recommend you give this one a try.

Loved it Best part is they served grilled cheese sandwiches an pea soup, just like my mom used to make. (I'm 70) .they sold it and the new owners really spruced it up, and the menus, however, no pea soup but fantastic clam chowder and wonderful tomato soup. Great bar, fantastic service, wonderful music. I just came down due to my mother passing, but I still ate there 9 times in 3 weeks. Number one for comfort food. The elk burger is juicy, sweet potato fries, fish tacos were wonderful!! What ever u do, do not miss going next door to the most wonderful antique store you will ever visit. I think our bartender's name was Alicia (if so, she was fantastic - if not, whoever it was deserves a medal). Friendly, quick, and made the whole place feel like home. It's got some 49ers vibes going on, so you've been warned (or welcomed, depending on your team colors). This is an old-school bar - started in the late 1800s - but it's packed with life. Lots of colorful, interesting locals, and just an all-around great group of people to share a drink with. Didn't try the food, so no comment there - but the atmosphere alone was worth the stop. The kind of place you wish you could come back to every weekend. If you're anywhere near Oakland, OR, and in the mood for history, laughs, and a cold drink, this is your spot.
