I think our bartender's name was Alicia (if so, she was fantastic - if not, whoever it was deserves a medal). Friendly, quick, and made the whole place feel like home. It's got some 49ers vibes going on, so you've been warned (or welcomed, depending on your team colors). This is an old-school bar - started in the late 1800s - but it's packed with life. Lots of colorful, interesting locals, and just an all-around great group of people to share a drink with. Didn't try the food, so no comment there - but the atmosphere alone was worth the stop. I was just passing through on 7/12/25 and had a couple hours to kill so I stopped here just for a drink. Had a good G+T and eventually got hungry. The sandwich was very good! Ordered mine hot and it came out toasty but the veggies weren't hot which I appreciated so much! Warm sammy and crisp veggies! The only lady working had a full bar but still seemed very attentive to both regulars and bypassers at the bar and in booths! Good job girl! Stopped in on an antique motorcycle run. This place is full of charm and history. We had a fairly large group, and the place was already busy when we walked in. there was one girl working all the tables and getting drinks and food out as quickly as she could. Most in our group ordered sandwiches. Comes with a pickle spear and a few pepperchinis, along with chips and cole slaw. I love this place. The food was delicious and the service was great. Best tuna and Reuben sandwiches that we've had in years! Highly recommend. Wonderful historic stop on the road from Portland to Ashland.

This was a fun place to visit for the first time and we'll return. The service was quick and friendly. There is a barrel of unshelled peanuts that's 'help yourself.' It was loud when we first arrived but a good, friendly loud. A football game was on TV (I don't know who was playing because I'm not into football.) and the customers were cheering and having a good time, like at a neighborhood bar. I was pretty excited to try this place based on reviews and was sadly disappointed enough I felt compelled to warn others. We stopped in and they were pretty busy when we first arrived so this review is not about the bad service we got (although added to the overall disappointment). This place serves salads and sandwiches- we both were served stale bread which is telling. How do you have stale bread when that is a huge part of one of the only dishes you offer? The drinks were no good either. So we waited a long time for stale sandwiches and gross drinks. Overall the meal reminded me of prepackaged airport food. The icing on the cake was when I saw the female bartender picking up trash from the ground outside the bar and then coming in and resuming her work behind the bar...without washing her hands. Cool bar in a small town. Came here with my sister and brother in law after a long day of travel.....The best way to put this.... NORMMMMMMM Yes, this is the place where everybody knows your name. My family members knew just about everyone in there and the ones they didn't know acted like close friends. Staff is really friendly and the beer is cold. Is there really anything else you can ask for? Also, have the inside scoop that once a year there is some special live performances that may or may not have family members that participate. Hopefully I'm back in town to catch that next time along with some more good times with good people. Oh America! This is dive bar nirvana. No watering hole of the humble sort can touch this place. So many places try way too hard to be a bonafide dive bar, but end up being a hipster style counterfeit joint. Not the case here. This has every element that makes you just want to hunker down and watch, well, ANY sports event they have rolling on the screen, or shoot pool with the gang, or eat peanuts from the shell and cast the shells upon the floor. There is the obligatory Thirsty Thursday $2 Hamms pounder, but there are micro brews at $4.50 a pint. The Oakland Tavern is decidedly unlike the overtly precious joints that charge $5.75 for 12 oz. For all you math types that's $7.67 a pint. Pffft! Super friendly servers and an overall jolly place to be. The food is rumored to be extra good. An awesome little pub. I like their sandwiches, and my fav is the OT Grinder. They have a happy hour from 4-6 with a poor man's happy hour on Monday where you get Pabst ( I think) for $1.50 each. They also run special happy hour prices during NASCAR races. Gotta love it! The atmosphere is laid back, and the crowd is mixed with all ages. It's a small town pub that has lots going on. they have lottery, darts (sometimes tourny's), pool, and misc video games. Lots of TV to watch the sports on too. read more

The Oakland Tavern aka the OT is notorious for having the best deli sandwiches is Douglas County and it's for good reason! The OT an old water hole of a dive bar with limited seating but well worth the wait to get a sandwich and a brew. I recommend the Ruben it's prepared well. Bag of chips and a beer to accompany makes for a great meal. read more

Perfect beer and lunch stop during a California/Oregon road trip. A quaint pub chalked full of excellence. The atmosphere was friendly - their Reuben sandwich was piled with pastrami , loaded with Swiss cheese and sauerkraut but overloaded with 1000 island dressing. Also it was served on white hoagie style bread instead of the traditional Rye and toasted openfaced instead of grilled. This bar had terrible service when we stopped in a few months ago with a large group of people after a retirement party. The place was D.E.A.D. with one couple in a booth and the bartender (a large guy wearing a football jersey) acted like we committed a sin by stopping in. We let him know that we wanted an open tab (my husband and I) and that we would cover the group (about 17 of us and 1/2 of us soldiers) and asked if he would put on some music. He had a game playing on the t.v.s full blast. He told us that in THIS bar, during football season you WILL watch the game or you will go some place else. He didn't mind either way but he was NOT turning down the game and turning on anything else. He was watching the game. We told him that the party was about a soldier in our group that just retired after 20 years of active service and that this particular bar meant a lot to her and her family because both her veteran father from Vietnam and veteran grandfather from World War II drank in that same bar and we even showed him her Grandpa's signature on the bar. He smirked and basically told us that her Grandpa didn't drink there anymore (Duh...he is dead now) and that he didn't care why we were there. He wasn't turning down the game. We immediately left and went a couple doors down to another bar that was owned and ran by an older woman who accommodated us for the next 3 or so hours while we danced and sang and drank and played lottery. We tipped that woman a couple hundred dollars and also had a great time. This bar could probably be great if you didn't have such an arrogant guy working for you. And if that guy is the owner, SHAME ON YOU ya big fat pig! If we could all choose who to fight for and who not to fight for in this country you would have topped our NOT list that night. read more
