5 Stars - A Perfect Anniversary Getaway!…read more My wife Tiffany and I stayed at the guest house at Cooper Ridge Vineyards over the 4th of July weekend for our anniversary, and we had an absolutely wonderful time. The guest house was spotless, very reasonably priced, and gave us the complete run of the vineyard once the tasting room closed. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The property offers both 1- and 2-bedroom options and has gorgeous views overlooking the North Umpqua River and the vineyards perfect for morning coffee or evening wine on the patio. Steve and Paula, the owners, are wonderful, warm people who were incredibly accommodating and made us feel right at home. Their wines are superb, especially the pomegranate sparkling wine, which quickly became our favorite. We also loved the complimentary charcuterie board! The guest house was well-equipped with a washer and dryer, iron, full refrigerator, coffee maker, and plenty of dishware -- everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Located in beautiful Douglas County wine country, it's conveniently just minutes away from many other wineries, making it an ideal base for exploring the Umpqua Valley. Do yourself a favor and book a stay with Steve and Paula at Cooper Ridge Vineyards. You won't be disappointed!

The store has a great representation of local, Oregon, California vino, as well as International. It was fun to see some of my favorite wineries from the Willamette Valley and I even saw a few labels from my one trip to Healdsburg, CA. Keith chose a glass from the Rhone for me to sip while I wandered around the store. If a bottle is needed for a special occasion, he's your wine guy. If cheeses, olives, jellies and other yummy snacks are needed for your next cheese board or maybe, a Spanish dinner night, they are available as well. I spent my holidays down in Roseburg this year, home to Umqua Vallet. This is a tasting room…read moreowned by 2 former Robert Mondavi employees who are good winemakers in their own right. The name is derived from the 2 middle names of wine makers Scott Kelly and Dyson Demara, of Hillcrest. The tasting room is located in a historic building down town Roseburg and is cozy in an industrial way. The wine varietals are so different from what you find up in the Willamette Valley, plus the prices are more reasonable. I was gifted from my friends, a bottle of the Fume Blanc, a tad bit sweet Sauv blanc and am excited to pair it with my next cheese board. I am kicking my self that I didn't pick up a bottle of GSM, a Southern Rhone blend that is readily available here and Walla Walla. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone wanting to step off the Pinot Noir train , if just for a weekend.

Nice, a lite Pinot with a decent finish. The 100 Valley Pinot left me wanting something more. Finished off the tasting with their GSM. It was nice an easy drinking wine. A table wine. I can't help but wonder how these would have tasted in a good wine glass. That is my major negative here. The stemware is small stemless glasses with a huge lip. To see how these wines actually taste they should upgrade their tasting glass. Possibly a Reidel Oregon Pinot glass.

Oakland Tavern - Old School Fun Since the late 1800s…read more Stopped into the Oakland Tavern in Oakland, OR, and wow - what a blast! I think our bartender's name was Alicia (if so, she was fantastic - if not, whoever it was deserves a medal). Friendly, quick, and made the whole place feel like home. It's got some 49ers vibes going on, so you've been warned (or welcomed, depending on your team colors). This is an old-school bar - started in the late 1800s - but it's packed with life. Lots of colorful, interesting locals, and just an all-around great group of people to share a drink with. Didn't try the food, so no comment there - but the atmosphere alone was worth the stop. The kind of place you wish you could come back to every weekend. If you're anywhere near Oakland, OR, and in the mood for history, laughs, and a cold drink, this is your spot.
