However, my brother commented on how weird it looked. So, I decided to take them to the shoe hospital because according to my brother they were in bad shape. According to the repairman, the shoe repair services would take a few days. In my mind, I had a target price of no more than $10. However, it turned out to be more. Since I will have symmetrical shoes, I think it will be worth it. Yesterday, I dropped the flip flops off for repair. The process was quick and easy. I got the flip flops back the today. The flip flops are twins again. Historically (over the last 20+ years), I have had my shoes repaired only at the Austin Shoe hospital as they do great work.

I picked up the suitcase without examining it closely and when I got home I realized the zipper pull was still missing. I took it back across town and the older man working this time told me that it wasn't part of the repair and that I would have to pay an additional $30 (on top of the $125 already paid) to have this tiny piece of hardware replaced. Worse, he didn't let me finish one sentence in the entire conversation. He interrupted me repeatedly, told me my experience was not what happened, and tried to mansplain to me that Tumi would not have repaired the suitcase (which they would have--we took it there first, but it would have taken longer). He was extremely rude, there was not one moment that he treated me with anything but disdain and disrespect, and I will never return to this location.

In 1981, David borrowed $1,000 and put out a shingle of his own when he bought the shop from his uncle... years before the Austin Shoe Hospital even opened. At one point his shop on Congress and 5th was over 3,000 sq ft. And he had a second shop, too. He's since sold both shops and most of his equipment but he still repairs shoes (especially boots!) for a few hours each week. This man represents the old Austin that I loved so much. Kind, hard working and fair. And he does beautiful work.

I brought a broken belt and a pair of nice (but worn) boots. They repaired them in a timely fashion and held them until I was able to pick them up. My boots are Luchesse's (which are certainly a nice brand). These guys made em look almost as good as new, and they've seen work, dogs biting them up, and pretty much any other thing you can imagine. I never thought a pair of boots more than 5 years old could look so good! These guys are quality craftsmen and they take care of you. I'm very pleased with how the boots turned out. I was searching online for a fluff and fold laundry service for a short term rental…read moreproperty that I help my daughter manage, ideally one that did pick up and delivery. When I went on The Laundry Spot's website I saw that they offered this service so figured I'd give them a try. I had a few questions so I called the number listed on the home page of the website, and the woman who answered referred me to another number for the pick up and delivery service which turned out is also listed if you click on the "delivery" link. I got an answering service and left my contact info and within minutes, James the owner called back and answered my questions and walked me through the process of setting up an account so that I could do the online scheduling myself. There were 3 convenient windows of times to select from for both pick up and delivery so I scheduled pick up between 8am-11am on Tuesday and delivery during that same timeframe the next day. I got a text a minute or so prior to them arriving both times and they were both within the scheduled timeframes. Since the home was unoccupied those days, I was able to text them the temporary door code I set up remotely and allow them to pick up and drop off inside in the entry way. The laundry consisted of two full sets of bedding, several towels dish towels, etc. All came back perfectly clean and nicely folded. Online I was able to select the type of soap (or even provide my own if desired), optional softeners, and add any specific instructions such as cold water, gentle cycle etc. I am so thrilled to have found this service! Since I'm a big fan of USEFUL technology, I'm very happy that I can do all of the scheduling from my smart phone, including paying the invoice. I was initially apprehensive about providing my credit card info and wanted to be sure the info was encrypted and secure. The owner, James, patiently explained to me that he's partnered with a few different technology platforms in order to make it possible to do all of this online, so it's all very secure and tested. One thing to note: because of the way the various platforms are linked, you see different URLs when you schedule versus looking at your account versus payment, but after it's set up it's a piece of cake. And best of all, the laundry comes back beautifully clean and nicely folded without me having to do a thing (I have back problems) so this is a wonderful solution for me. And the pricing is incredibly reasonable. I highly recommend trying this laundry service and supporting a great local Austin business!
