This place was packed even at 9pm on the weekend! We had to park way past Metro. I'd also recommend calling in for a reservation, unless you're fine with the bar section. They offer a great range of food for a bar type of establishment. We ordered their lobster dip, truffle steak and salmon. The lobster dip (21$) came with pita and nacho chips. I enjoyed the dip; however I did not feel like there was enough dip for the amount of pita and nacho that was given. The salmon main course (34$) was okay, nothing special. Our favourite dish of the night was their truffle steak (45$). I believe it usually comes with truffle fries as well, however we substituted it for garden vegetables. The sauce was so rich and flavourful, and we felt like the served us decent piece of steak! Surprisingly, we would choose this steak over the steak at the keg any day! The service was slow, but not non existent. Good place to watch a game with the friends, or a super casual date. We were at this location to celebrate our 11th Wedding Anniversary and had a wonderful time! The food was pretty delicious and the service was great. We ordered Beef Barbacoa Tacos for appetizers and New York Steaks for our Main Course. The tacos' beef filling was very flavorful. The steaks were cooked exactly the way we liked, medium rare towards the rarer side. The seasonal vegetables were very fresh. We got a complimentary dessert for celebrating our anniversary at Jack's which was very thoughtful and sweet! The ambience was great and the cocktails we ordered were also lovely. Ordered miso glazed salmon bowl. Salmon was over cooked and dry. Rest of the food in the bowl was good but the dry salmon made the rest of the meal unpleasant. I ordered medium and thought that's their interpretation - extremely well done. I told a friend of the terrible salmon next day. And she told me that medium should not be dry. Had I known I would have sent it back. Hope I can get compensation somehow. So disappointed. Service and ambience were great. The bar side were all decked out in festive lights and decoration. The server said no problem getting rice INSTEAD of the potatoes but didn't tell me I would get charged an extra $4 for the substitution. I had dinner on May 7 with a friend at Shops at Don Mills location. First off the waitress knew nothing about the new wine offering, Our Story. When she brought me a sample to try, the glass was dirty around the rim. Secondly, we ordered the garlic bread. The four little plates left on the table, one of them was caked in old food. We called over the manager who was shocked at this clearly unwashed dish. Thirdly, my dinner was warm, not hot. I decided not to send it back as I was really hungry. Been here several times. It's a nice looking restaurant to be very honest. The vibe is really nice, it typically feels very charismatic and welcoming. Staff are great, get you what you need; they do their job well. The food is good, it's not Michelin starred but it's good food and tastes great. Typical Jack's, no matter which location you go to. I got the Dirty Bird Chicken Sandwich with fries. The chicken tender fingers were spicy! There was also hot banana peppers and fried jalapenos. If you can't handle spicy, this isn't for you. It's a bit more expensive than most places considering the food (and 3 chicken strips) and the food and service isn't special. Parking is hard to come by, especially at the Shops at Don Mills. Atmosphere was good, lots of TVs with different sports on. Not much wait for a table. It was such a nice cloudy day so sitting out on the patio that day at Jack Astor's Bar & Grill was actually really nice without too much direct sunlight. I ordered the vegetarian burger which was really good. It was called Hold the Beef and I chose the House Salad as its side. This was my second time having a vegetarian burger. (The last time I had one was at Johnny Bistro's which also was made with a black bean patty.) I especially liked the abundance of goat cheese in it. K got the Miso Sesame Tuna Bowl which I was really impressed about as well. Jack Astor's seems to have improved their game! The ingredients in the bowl were so fresh and the seared tuna was so perfectly done. I liked the crispness of the snow peas and the slight sweetness of the miso sesame sauce. I've been to Jack Astors a couple of times this year but this was the best visit so far. I've tried the stack'd poutine which was pretty good. Then someone recommended the bow tie chicken pasta which I thought was great. But the chicken fingers that I got today was the best thing I've ordered at Jack's to date. I was surprised how tender the fingers were and it definitely shows they aren't frozen. The toffee Chipotle sauce is an interesting combination and it does work. But with a side of parmesan truffle fries, it doesn't get better than this for a bar night social. 4 stars due to the rainbow bellini being a little underwhelming. It wasn't as colorful as their blue raspberry lemonade but it's still a refreshing cocktail. Also this specific location has a great atmosphere, it's spacious and the service is speedy enough. The portions were ridiculously small. I expected more food on the plate. Lucky my kids couldn't finish their meals and we were able to fill up on their leftovers. I order fish & chips, fish was delicious, but the portion was disappointing. A tiny piece of fish, then they just give you more fries and slaw. We also ordered the classic burger, it was meh! I feel almost awkward award Jack's a really good review as I had relatively little positive things to say about the chain for a few years. But ultimately, things can change, and you just have to be honest and give credit to where it's due. As I mentioned in my review of one of their locations in Oakville, they've clearly stepped up their game in more recent history. We had out-of-town guests who also had kids with them. As much as I would've liked to find a more unique place to eat when in the city, you just have to be practical when there are 5 kids between the ages of 3 and 10. Fortunately, I knew that aside from being practical, we'd all still find something we'd enjoy. They really do a terrific job of serving fresh food. They don't even take shortcuts on the kids' dishes as things like chicken fingers are made in-house. I'm falling in love with their tuna sandwich which is made from a perfectly seared tuna steak and a very generous serving of avocado. My wife got their wings, which were great and tossed right at the table. My friends had never been before and loved the Cobb salad and soup, as well as the fact that their kids really enjoyed their meal. They had a great impression overall. There was even a magician who went around to all the tables that had kids. If you don't have kids, this may understandably sound cheesy or unnecessary; but if you're in my shoes, it was great to see the kids entertained and thrilled at all the tricks - for free no less. I felt that the waitresses sexed-up image was a bit OTT compared to other locations I've been to, and the fact that they're still clearly trying to appeal to families as well. In fact, most servers in other bars in the city (read: not family friendly) don't seem the feel the need to put out the vibe to the extent that they do here. With that said, our server was very friendly and geared her approach appropriately for our table. Love this location, especially summer time when you get to dine on the patio. Service and staff were average during this visit. Just got some dessert to eat today--these deep fried cheesecake spring rolls with strawberry and caramel dipping sauces--that tasted delicious. Had lunch today with 2 coworkers . Might have been one of the most disappointing lunches we've had as a group in years . The service we received was OK . The food on the other hand was simply terrible . Started with some Asian wonton " nachos" which ended up being the best item we had . Pricey ($11.95 ) for six flat crackers with hoisin and Sriracha mayo slathered upon them . Oh and they sprinkled some sesame seeds to achieve Asian status. Asian miso bowl with added salmon piece was very ordinary, under seasoned and cost $29.00 . Not worth the money . Another glass noodle bowl with salmon was underwhelming , under seasoned , and had a funny metallic taste . Another waste of $30.00 . The last dish ordered was the chicken parmigiana. OMG this the worst Chicken/parm I've ever been served . A small chicken breast was breaded , deep fried and had some tomato sauce placed on top and sat on spaghetti which sat in a pool of a cheese/white sauce which had the same tomatoe sauce placed on the white sauce? Very Weird . The dish was lukewarm and the sauce combo was horrible . A complete waste of $ 27.00 . Probably one of the worst food items I've been served in my adult life .
