Tried J Squared for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth a visit. The atmosphere is warm cozy casual. The staff were very attentive and friendly. Food came out fast, hot and fresh. Lots of options for drinks. There was a list of about 15 beers on tap, fun cocktails, nice wine list and a full bar. Space is limited, and you may have to share the long table with others, but it still feels comfortable. Looking forward to visiting again. read more

Went for happy hour with a friend. The bartender was friendly and the place was clean. The wedged salad was really good. The bartender made a mocktail from the cocktail menu, it was delicious. The bartender observed my friend and I were there to visit and gave us plenty of time before bringing the check after our meal. I really appreciated that level of professionalism. Tried to stop in here tonight (7/9) at about 6:15 - it was busy with one table open (bussed but not wiped down). It was busy(!!!), but most tables had their food or drinks (and were waiting for food) and it's a small place so.. yeah, I thought we read the situation - popular place! Cool! We went ahead and sat but no one came, about 5-10 minutes in my husband went to the bar and got a menu and a bartender or server assured him they would be over. Another 10-15 mins go by, and some one brings out three pizzas (to the table next to us!) and then still turns without a word and walks away. At this point the table is still dirty and we haven't been given water or greeted or anything. We wait another couple minutes and then decide to cut our losses and leave. Would not recommend! The food looked good but who knows how much longer we would wait to order (or how much longer than that for food). Complete lack of service!! Just a greeting would've been nice. read more

Amazing cocktails. Great beer selection. The lighting creates a nice atmosphere. The servers are friendly and attentive. The food came out in a timely manner and everything is DELICIOUS. They have a rotating menu I believe which I appreciate because you can tell they use very fresh ingredients. Their pizza is awesome. The chicken pesto pasta was absolutely remarkable and the two starters we got, spicy roasted Brussels sprouts and the cast iron brie were really amazing. Nice place. Very large tap menu with all sorts of choices. Menu is fine with everything from pizza to Mac and cheese. Very clean, friendly staff. Seating is moderate. They have a few private tables a long table down the center with several seats that is kind of a shared seating area. People seem to spread out a little so it's not as if you are sitting next to a stranger. We had Pizza and a salad. To be completely honest I wasn't crazy about the pizza, I will say I've had friends try it before and they loved it. It was a little to thick on the doughy side for me but that's just a personal preference. Toppings seemed to hug the center with about a inch and 1/2 of plain dry crust. I personally wouldn't buy it again. One of those items you just need to try for yourself. I would return again. my wife got the Chicken Cesar Salad and her review was "It's ok". My wife and I went here for dinner and noted a very dark environment. Not much too see, one could say a minimalist interior. Our waiter was very polite and took our orders pleasantly. When I got my small mixed drink unfortunately it tasted exactly like fabric softener. Honestly for the price I was hoping for something that had a more pleasant taste for such a small portion. Afterwards out best pretzels ever were served. The cheese dip did not have much flavor, more yellow water and the pretzels were hard and flavor wise were like generic frozen pretzels. Afterwards we got our pesto pizza that was actually pretty good, super thin crust. Overall, unfortunately, missed the mark. Will not be returning. read more

This is s cool little addition to the Cowlitz County food and beverage scene. Stopped by prior to attending the Odd Couple (female version) at Stageworks last night. Had pork belly sliders, bratwurst, beer and wine. Everything was very good, particularly the beer-dipped potatoes and dip and the plates were well presented. The only complaint would be is it took a while for our food to be served, but it was worth the wait. We will return to try appetizers and desserts. read more

I go here often and have been since they opened; it's a regular, local hang out spot. They have a great selection of approx. 15/16 beers on tap, as well as 14 ish wines. Great mix and chill vibes. And their food selection is more than decent for a barrel house, to boot. Their wood-fire pizza (made with local Kalama sourdough) is to die for, and their mac and cheese is also a fave! It's nice to have a place in town where 21 year olds don't hang around much too haha. read more

When I first cogitated this review, I though of playfully complaining about the lack of square barrels on the premises. However, what J&J have created here is too impressive for throwaway wit. I do not hand out 5 stars lightly but this place is different. The service staff are fantastic - what they may sometimes lack in quantity during peek hours is thoroughly absolved by quality. The beer & wine selections show an insight into the human palate (and arcane distribution systems) that few others can rival anywhere; not just in this local. The small but mighty menu demonstrates how much can be done with a limited kitchen and unconstrained imagination. However, what really holds this team together though is the leadership. Thanks to Jack, who effortlessly exudes decorum and customer service excellence, the J-Squared Barrel house is a luxurious force to contend with. His vast knowledge of the industry is palpable in everything, but no more so than in how the fabulous facets decribed above smoothly meld together. Stop by and give this place a try. You deserve it.
