After stopping at McMenamins Kalama Harbor Lodge and hearing about this spot, we knew we had to check it out. Unfortunately, it's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, so we planned to visit later in the afternoon on Wednesday. When we arrived, the parking area was empty. I walked up to the front door and stepped inside. I immediately noticed the fire crackling in the fireplace. I told the staff member I'd be right back after getting my wife. At the time, the only person inside was the McMenamins employee. The space itself is small and cozy, with two booths, about four tables, and seating for around five at the bar. There's also outdoor seating with a fireplace, though it wasn't lit during our visit. When my wife came in, she was absolutely delighted. She walked straight over and stood in front of the fire, soaking it in. We took seats at the bar near the fireplace and asked about their offerings. The bartender provided menus, which feature a small but appealing selection of appetizers, pizzas, subs, and desserts, along with a modest drink list. We'd already eaten, but I ordered a pint of their Hammerhead. As we sat by the fire, we chatted with the bartender/server, who shared a bit about the place and the nearby Kalama Harbor Lodge. A few other groups came in while we were there, but after I finished my beer, we decided to head out. If you're looking for a place with the greatest ambiance, THIS is it. We have been here a few times and prefer having a drink here rather than over at McMenamins. It's a beautiful place to hang out in the evening and service has always been wonderful when we've come. The last time we stopped by, it was a little less than 1/2 hour until closing but the bartender was so awesome and said no worries, no rush! She didn't even shoosh us out or pressure us to hurry. We were walking along the beach with our dogs and noticed this cute little place. It was getting close to dinner and I noticed people outside on the deck eating and having drinks. We went into the ""cabin" and asked if our dogs were allowed outside on the deck. ""Yes!" ""of course they are.". So we sat at a cute little corner table (see pic) and enjoyed a yummy bite to eat. The Ahles Point Cabin is apart of the McMenamins Kalama Harbor Lodge next door (not quite next door as it's a little bit of a drive, and a longer walk at that). We were headed to the Kalama Harbor Lodge and saw the cabin and just knew we had to stop in before we left - and I'm so glad we did! Out of the entire Kalama Harbor Lodge, this spot was my absolute favorite. It's literally just a cozy wood cabin with a wood burning fireplace on the water with a bar in it. Does it get much better? Nahhh. There's outdoor seating, but we stayed inside because it was a pretty windy day. They have their iconic McMenamins ales and other drinks as well. We had a couple beers and just enjoyed the environment. I could've stayed at this spot all day if we didn't have to head home. Service was also incredibly friendly - it was an older gentleman, and you could tell he really loved working here. If we're in the area in the future, we'll definitely be coming by again. read more

This place is the cutest and so much easier to get a table at than the other places at the main Kalama Harbor Lodge next door. If you are on the wait list, you might just walk over and check it out rather than wait the hour plus I was recently quoted. It's much quieter and feels more intimate. It's also great for outdoor eating/drinking, with plenty of nice views of the river out front. It's 21 and over, but dog friendly outside. You can park in the Kalama Harbor Lodge and walk the 8 minute walk thru the park if you choose to, or there is parking right out front. If the weather is not nice there is inside seating as well. The menu is similar to the places next door. I was surprised by how much I enjoyed my hummus plate. I loved this place so much I stopped by twice in the same night. The person working behind the bar was great. He continually offered us blankets to ward off any cold weather. He also kept the fire stoked so we did not get chilly. The sunset was beautiful and it was a wonderful night. read more

Much quieter and cozier than the big hotel upriver. If you feel like having a beer on the riverfront in Kalama this is the place. Something bothers me about the whole riverfront development though. It looks like the town is promoting it as a tourist destination. But you're stuck between the freeway and the river, seems like no way to get here without a car even if you live in Kalama. Would be terrific if they made a way to bike here safely from Portland. But this a nice little spot, excellent service from the hardworking and friendly server Jeremy, who tends the fires as well as the bar. Unlike other McMenamins I'm familiar with, this (and the nearby hotel) are not restored old buildings, but new ones made in old style. read more

What a fun detour from the main Mcmenamins Kalama Harbor location. This little cabin is a part of Mcmenamins but isn't connected to the main lodge. On a pleasant day you can stroll down a walking path from the lodge to the cabin along the always scenic Columbia River. It's about a ten minute walk between the two buildings and the river bank is sandy so you can stroll down there off the walking path and get closer to the river and enjoy the sand. At the cabin you can order food like pizzas for example which would be an intriguing option. There is a bar in the cabin and you can get beer, cider and wine. Steve and I did a flight of Edgefield wine which was excellent and we bought a bottle in the gift shop of one of the wines we had. While there isn't a large amount of seating in the cabin on a Friday afternoon there were plenty of empty seats but I'm sure it gets busier on the weekends and the space here could be a challenge but if it's nice out I saw outside seating too. The fireplace in here was going and the wood that was being burnt smelled great! The waitress here was awesome and very approachable and friendly. She didn't let us forget that there were secret rooms to find at the main lodge which is a trademark of Mcmenamins and some of their hotels. read more

Outstanding service from Jeremy - he really went the extra mile! Friendly, attentive, thoughtful, very helpful, and a great conversationalist while never getting too long-winded. My hubs and I enjoyed a great game of chess on the adorable miniature glass chess set here (I won - yeah!). They also have cribbage and a few other board games too. We were warned immediately that the food would take 35 - 40 minutes, so we ordered a couple of bags of chips to tide us over and enjoyed the impressively awesome indoor fireplace before moving outside to the patio to watch the sun set over the river while eating our dinner. Hubs got the Terminator Stout and the Turkey Sandwich, and he loved both. I got the 1/2 Aztec Salad, the 8" BBQ Hammerhead Pizza (with gluten-free crust for $3 extra, yay!), and the delightfully-tart Crangerine Dream Hard Cider. I loved all 3 of them. Ahle's Point Cabin is part of McMenamin's, so if you're staying there (we were), you can put your tab on your room fees if you like - very convenient. Getting to Ahle's Point Cabin is an easy 5-minute walk from the McMenamin's main lodge through the lovely riverfront Louis Rasmussen Day Park. In addition to the indoor fireplace, there is an outdoor fireplace on the patio too! Jeremy also gave blankets to each customer on the patio as the sun began to sink below the hills and the air started to get much colder. So nice! We'd go back to this place anytime! read more

It's a great little stand alone cabin about half a mile from the Kalama main dock house. It's simple but well decorated in Mcmenamins style. The drinks are refreshing and served at the bar. The menu is light but good with an amazing mushrooms dish. The view is perfect on a nice sunny day you can enjoy it from one of the many tables in their outdoor seating. read more

After stumbling upon the biggest egg in the world I moseyed on down the road and found this incredible tiny bar in a cabin on the water. What a lovely stop for a drink. Their selection isn't huge, only their own beers and wine. But they have a decent white wine. The patio is beautiful with an incredible fireplace. read more

Ahles Point Cabin is a great neighborhood venue. The setting is on the Columbia River and the log cabin fits the location perfectly. The menu is limited compared to McMenamin's (where the food is prepared) and takes a little longer to arrive but you shouldn't come here if fast food is your primary goal. The beverage service is quick and courteous and the tables outside are a wonderful place to watch boats and fishermen when the weather allows. Go check it out! read more

Always a great time here. Most of the time if we aren't eating dinner, we skip going to the lodge entirely and head straight to the cabin. Jeremy is always incredibly hospitable and offers blankets when there's a breeze and always knows when we're ready for another round. The cabin is cozy and the patio is enchanting, especially when the sun is setting. Highly recommend giving this place a visit for a quiet date night. No minors allowed here, so trot down the park trail if you've had enough of the little ones at the main hotel and enjoy a small selection of beer, wine, and ciders, along with 16-inch pizzas and cold sandwiches. I really can't say enough good things. My boyfriend and I were in love at first sight with this place. It was so relaxing, and I actually liked the simplicity of the selection of beer/wine. Very homey and we liked coming there to get a little social time to catch up with each other after a day of work. We even played chess...we're apparently an 80 yr old couple, not 25 and 28. haha. Seriously a fun little cabin that reminded me of sitting outside with a beer after fishing with my dad. I'd love to see the rest of the Inn that is down the path from this place, so I'll be coming back here again and again. read more
