Love this place! The people here are wonderful. The beer & wine selection is huge for the area. The breakfast and lunch (Mostly sandwiches and salads) here are very good. The meat section is great and the homemade sausages are out of this world. Given the size of the store, they have a large selection of canned goods, pasta's, veggies, desserts and dairy. Pace's is an anchor store for those of us who live in The Seaport. I'm there almost every day. read more

Love this place. Visited the northeast for 8 days and this is the only place I ate at twice. They have some great/creative sandwich options. Great flavors and large sandwiches with fresh bread. You can tell this is a local favorite based on the conversations between the employees and long-time customers. My wife and I bought sandwiches and brought them on the plane and we got a lot of jealous looks from nearby passengers! This is a wonderful gourmet take-out place and grocer in the Seaport District. We live at Park Lane so we go here frequently for groceries and the occasional take-out sandwich or salad. The staff here is super nice and competent -- they bend over backwards to make you happy and always have a smile on their faces. They have great salads, especially the flavorful and tasty Greek salad and the sandwiches are freshly-made with delicious home made bread and fresh fillings like turkey, imported ham and salami, organic veggies, gourmet cheeses, etc. They also have hot sandwiches like chicken or eggplant parm, meatball, vegetarian and the like. read more

Hearty portions, but of quality, fresh & flavorful food items. So this is only a review of the Seaport store itself, not the deli sandwiches or any other location. I normally love Pace's and have been to the North End and Saugus locations. But the Seaport is closer to my house so I decided to do some shopping. While I love the other locations and they have everything I could dream of, this one was terrible. No ground beef/pork mix for meatballs, only one kind of sausage, no Italian bread, only one brand of anchovies. No one was staffing the bakery counter and I had to look for someone to help me. I asked for a tiramisu and the clerk had no idea what it was. I should not be walking into an Italian market and finding gluten free bread, but no Italian bread. For yuppies, not for real Italian cooking. read more

Confused about the great reviews and why people rave about this place. Yes, they make food and yes, there's a store on the other side, but this place is so overpriced because of the lack of options currently in the Seaport. Imagine that you need something from the store. Now go here and expect to pay double. No thank you! With Frank Anthony's market nearby with fresh produce and prices comparable to regular stores, why go here? After moving from the South End with Whole Foods nearby to the Seaport with no stores, I have to say that I'd rather have groceries delivered than overpay here. I think the owners should rethink this because although I'm speaking up, I'm sure there are many others in the neighborhood who feel the same way and haven't said a word. Things are changing almost daily here in the Seaport and it's time to be competitive and appreciate your customers, regulars and potential customers, a bit more. read more

Compared to other Italian delis I've been to in Boston, I would categorize J. Pace in the upper tier. I'm very happy to have a deli like this in the Seaport near my place of work, as it can often times be a struggle to find a quality sandwich in the area. In terms of their offerings, I mostly order the chicken parm, meatball parm, or italian sub. Occasionally I will order their prepared dishes such as chicken cacciatore or beef and broccoli, and other cold sandwiches or wraps like chicken Caesar. They always provide a generous amount of meat and are very accommodating in case you'd like extra condiments or would like your sub heated in the oven. The employees are very friendly and efficient, and you'll never be stuck waiting around if you're in a rush. Another plus is that it's a mini grocery store that sells beer/wine and various condiments. The only recommendation I have is that they should start selling Italian pastries like canolis, which normally you'd have to call a day ahead to order. Keep up the good work J. Pace! read more

I go to J Pace because there are a lack of quick and tasty lunch options in the Seaport. They have a variety of what I'd call "steam table food" lunch options aka pastas, sandwiches etc etc etc. Their standout dishes include their steak and cheese sandwich (about $9 - decent quality), their chicken parmesan sandwich, and their eggplant parmesan sandwich. I do have a few complaints, on a couple of different occasions I've found random stuff in the sauce (which is delicious). One time it was a plastic tag, and another time it was some sort of netting. It's not even worth complaining to "managers" on duty, they're the old italian style who don't exactly follow a "the customer is always right" mantra. One other complaint which I have raised is that their chicken and eggplant parm sandwiches are delicious... but you have to ask for cheese and there is an extra charge for it. Are they serious? How are you going to serve a chicken parm sandwich and not include cheese on it? So for a chicken parm with cheese you're paying about $9 (vs the "chicken parm" with no cheese that they sell for $8... I'd call that a breaded chicken sandwich with red sauce). Anyway overall this place is decent for a change of lunch pace... they have good sandwiches and decent prices (about $12 for a sandwich, drink, chips) and are one of the only quick lunch options in the Seaport. The cashiers and sandwich makers are all really nice too, they always say hello to the regulars and ask how you're doing etc etc. read more

I often go out to the pier to watch the planes, the cruise ships or even to fish. I always stop at J. Pace for a sandwich. They have a bunch of hearty, creative sandwich offerings! All are great except the Reuben. They dont grill the bread so it gets soggy and falls apart. Avoid the Reuben. A bag of crunchy chips and a homemade sweet makes for a perfect day watching all the activity in the harbor! read more

The only reason this place is even getting two stars is because the chicken salad is quite tasty. Other than that this place has no redeeming qualities. My fiancé and I have been coming here for years and have seen a marked decline. This review does not apply to all J. Paces locations, I work in beacon hill and have gone to the one behind MGH which is much better than this one. I'll start with the breakfast that has somehow gone from a good, cheap and easy option to literally making me sick the last few times. I recently got a breakfast sandwich that was cold and had unmelted cheese on it. I don't come for lunch but sometimes grab a quick sandwich for dinner. When getting a sandwich outside of the lunch rush they are just haphazardly thrown together. Last night we were desperate so we grabbed sandwiches from there for dinner. My reuben had cold pastrami on it, half melted swiss, no russian dressing, and yet was also soggy. I have only ever had a reuben with corned beef and I don't like pastrami so that was quite unpleasant. What bothers me most is that this is one of the only places in the seaport area to buy groceries other than 7-11 and a very expensive specialty market and they rarely stock their shelves. When I asked about this they told me to just ask them for what I want and they can see if they have it in the back. I have seen refrigerator where the cheeses are kept out of order more than once, I've bought freezer burnt ice cream here, milk that was bad far sooner than the expiration date... The list goes on. The problem with this place seems to be the employees just not caring. Luckily some other options for quick eats are popping up in the seaport. read more

the cold deli subs are good but DO NOT GET THE STEAK AND CHEESE eww it was all fat and so much grease I couldn't eat it. Used to be a pretty dependable lunch spot for me but not anymore.
