As someone who comes from Texas, I've been looking for a restaurant that could meet my bbq standards! This place comes super close. I would just have to say that if the meat was a little bit more tender, I'd add an extra star read more

Spontaneously saw this store after getting Henry's donuts next door and it was amazing!!! All the sides were super delicious, the sausage was spicy yet good, and meat was also good! Sliiightly dry, but my friends from Texas even rated it a 8/10 so it's a win for us! read more

Everything here is delicious and the brisket...oh my gosh the brisket! It's the best BBQ brisket I've ever had and the main reason I go there to eat. (Great crust, tender, and the right amount of fat...drools) Super solid BBQ/sides and the best (imo) BBQ on the eastside. :) read more

WOW. We lucked out tonight that the place wasn't packed because it usually is...as it should be...because it was DELICIOUS. The lady working the counter was fantastic! Super friendly, accommodating, and funny as hell! The coleslaw is perfect, not too much mayo, not too much vinegar, and no sugar added. If you're in Monroe, GO HERE!!! read more

J & L BBQ - Brisket, tri-tip, coleslaw, collard greens. AMAZING!! - Barbeque Near Me - Monroe, Washington

Best bbq! We hired them to cater our wedding and I was SO IMPRESSED. they even packaged up all of our leftovers for us. Which were SUCH a blessing. We visit often and they're always so sweet and such good people. Try the brisket and tip; get lots of napkins! read more

Wow ! Let's first start there! Food: delicious, tasty, hits your tastebuds and an explosion of goodness over flows. The coleslaw is so tasty they put their own spin on it by adding raisins and pineapple. The Mac N' Cheese super cheesy and yummy! The brisket sammy packed full of hearty meat and flavor! Their BBQ sauce they slap their label on it but it's actually sweet baby rays, haha not mad at that, just wished they were upfront about it! My partner had the loaded potato and that was actually surprisingly packed full of incredible flavors! That all seem to work together! Service: went to the Monroe location for these photos below, and last night went to the snoho location. Both had incredible welcoming and friendly service. We appreciate that! A bit uncomfortable with the customers around us, but that was for different political differences. We acknowledge it takes many different people though to make the world. So nothing against the business itself here. No matter their political beliefs either. Ambiance: like you're sitting down eating with friends in their back yard bbq. It's awesome the owner is from a snohomish and has put his own spin on southern comfort dishes! Proud snohomish resident here. :) read more

J & L BBQ - Barbeque Near Me - Monroe, Washington

100% brisket lover, their brisket has never failed! A bit pricey but I'd rather spend more money on good quality enjoyable meal than less money on undesirable throw away food. read more

Okay, I grew up in South Carolina and am very discerning when it comes to BBQ. In the 20 years or so I've lived in the PNW, I have been to BBQ in Seattle, Kirkland, Bellevue, Redmond, and usually kind of let down at all of them. How the best BBQ joint I've been to in the region ended up in a small town near the mountains I'll never know, but I'm glad I moved so close to it. What an unexpected find! Get the tri-tip. It's better than the brisket in my opinion, though which itself is heavenly. read more

Awesome brisket. Meat just melts in your mouths. We ordered brisket tri-tip cowboy caviar and collard greens. Their spicy bbq sauce. Was actually spicy Only reason was 4 star. The temperature of the meat could be warmer. read more

Randomly came across this page looking for food on Yelp and I'm so glad I did after reading some reviews I had to try it myself this is by far the best BBQ in or around the Monroe area I got the brisket with baked beans and coleslaw. The brisket was fatty juicy and oh so good. Coleslaw was extra crunchy busting with flavor that offsets the bbq just right. The baked beans are totally different from any thing I would expect yet every bite makes me like them more and more. The employees were very nice with a smile on there face. All in all great place for amazing BBQ I'd recommend giving them a try next time you want some BBQ PS. I had to stop myself from eating all of it to be able to take a picture of it before it was all gone. read more

If you read this review and are thinking of going here, just a heads up. I'm going to start off by saying the food is very good. I've never had a bad meal here and I've tried just about everything. I've been here many times and never disappointed with the grub. They are not cheap however. At $7.50 per rib, yes 1 rib, it can add up fast. I know meat is not cheap, but damn. $51.00 plus for a rack of ribs? That's NOT why I am posting this review however? I went to J & L BBQ at the Monroe location last night 12/6/2024 as me and my son were hungry for that delicious brisket and Mac & cheese. We walked in and there were 2 other parties in the shop eating. As we approached the counter we were NOT greeted very kindly, and the 2 ladies working there had sour looks on their faces. Oh well, I'm not here for them. I'm here for the food? Well, it got worse . Before I was done ordering I was asked if I planned on taking my food to go as they planned on closing at 7pm. I was kind of taken aback as I looked at the clock and it said 6:18pm? That's 42 minutes til closing? I said no, we planned on eating at the restaurant. The sour face turned to pissy and we were pretty much told we would need to hurry up. I was ready to just say forget it and leave without the food but decided to stay and eat. I even tipped them $10.00 on a $44.00 order which I shouldn't have? After we sat to eat, a few more folks came in to order. The family right after us was a group of 5 and were asked if they were planning on taking their thier order to go? They said no as well and in response were told they were lucky and cutting it close but would be the last folks to be allowed to eat in house. . I was bothered by this, as it says they close at 7pm and it's 6:30pm? As a couple more folks come thru the door, the older gal of the 2 people working runs around the counter into the seating area as quickly as possible and start putting chairs upside down on the tables indicating that they are not seating anymore and trying to close up shop. It now like 6:35pm. There are now 2 parties eating in the restaurant. Me and my son, and the family right after us. There are like 6 tables in the restaurant and of course we occupied 2 of them, so the other 4 were getting chairs put I'm on top of them. People that were coming in with intentions to eat in house were kind of looking around like what's this? Looking at their watch etc,,,? The couple ordered and were told they would have to take it to go as they were done seating for the night. I about fell over in my chair when they took their bag of to go food over to a table and pulled the chairs down and sat down to eat. I even stopped to talk with them on the way out to tell them how great I thought that was as to not let them run you out cause they want to be doing something else on a Friday night? At $25-$30.00 for a meal & $51.00 + for a rack of ribs, they should not be trying to run you out the door and making you wish you went somewhere else? I'm sorry, but I'm NOT going to spend that much on a rack of ribs to take home? I'm just not. Anyway, I was watching the ladies that worked there for their expressions and they were pissed. This was a major bummer for me to have to see. I am a small business owner and I am actually the lead guy on my crew. I work had to keep my reputation up and that is why I'm on every job I take on. To see that my customers are nothing but happy and would use my company again. I've been going to J & L bbq for years. It started off I believe in snohomish where I've eaten many times and now has a place in Everett and Monroe. The owner has a good thing going however he had better watch it or it could go the other way real quick? I know for a fact that those 2 ladies working that Friday night rubbed wrong at the very least 12 customers, and I got to sit and watch all of it? Very disappointing? I believe if you are open until 7pm in Washington state that you need to allow patrons to be able to use the restaurant freely until 7pm. That includes sitting down to eat? Not making them feel 40 minutes before closing that they should have to leave? Or putting chairs up, mopping under my feet while I'm eating, etc.... If the ladies don't want the hours and don't like working there, then replace them. Again, I'm sorry to have to post this, however I truly think this is something that people need to be aware of as many were caught off guard ? If the establishment closes at 7, then close at 7, NOT 6:20? The food was great, but the experience sucked? Still wondering if I will go back or NOT? Regards 4 1/2 stars for the food 0 stars for the experience. I have to put 1 star up so I will, because you have to go thru the experience to get to the food, so that is how I will rate this place. If it was just for the food, it would get a great ratting! read more

This place was so great! My wife and I split a 2 meat 2 side on Sunday night and the food was absolutely fantastic. The brisket was tender and smokey with a great bark, the tri tip was perfectly cooked and seasoned, corn bread was thick and sweet, and the Mac&cheese was creamy, smooth and didn't have that gross curdling/oil separation that some places get when they batch up their Mac. The guy behind the counter was passionate about the craft and it really shows! read more

J & L BBQ - Brisket, Tri Tip, and awesome corn bread - Barbeque Near Me - Monroe, Washington

Great food. The whole group said, "It's a *do-over*‼ Defiantly we should do it again. " We had Brisket (our favorite), Pulled Pork, Baked Beans, Mac & cheese and Coleslaw. Yum! read more

I have eaten here twice now. Today was the second time. On both occasions we were served by Tina. They could not have found a better person to work their counter. She is SUPER nice and very generous with portions. On both occasions she hooked us up with extra sides, saying she had just made them and needed "tasters", and we were more than happy to oblige. We had the brisket dinner, which is to die for! The meat was perfectly smoked and seasoned, as well as juicy. The sides we had were: mashed potatoes and gravy, baked beans, Mac and cheese, and cowboy caviar, which was like a 3-bean salad (for lack of a better way to describe it). All were very good, though my favorite was the mashed potatoes. I highly recommend this place. You won't be sorry! read more

Pretty good spot. Its my first time here and the staff were nice and friendly. I got the chicken thigh and Tri Tip with reds and gravy and collard greens. Plus some corn bread! It all tasted great, collards were pretty salty but good flavor and has some (Tri Tip?) in but still, it was tasty, reds and gravy really good, same with the corn bread. The meats were both tender, juicy and smokey with good flavor. I used the mild BBQ sauce. In all a great first time and I'll be back to taste more! read more

Outstanding service and great BBQ. Pulled Pork and Brisket were very good. Between wife and I we had 4 sides and all were outstanding.

The best bbq I've ever had. I had the tri tip with mac and cheese and potato salad. I would 100% feel comfortable ordering anything off the menu and know it will be good. Amazing. read more

This place is absolutely amazing!! First, their cornbread is far superior to any cornbread I've eaten. Second, that butter that goes on top man! Also, I love their potato salad!! Meats!!! All delish!! Food is extremely consistent! Husband wishes they had french fries since he is more of a meat and potatoes guy. read more

oh oh oh so very very delicious Brisket. The Brisket meal is just about big enough for two lunchtime eaters, but my go-to is the 2-Brisket Sliders deal with the Mac+Cheese as a side; drop some of the delicious Spicy BBQ sauce onto the Mac+Cheese and it's total comfort, warmingly pleasant, and a great meal to pair with a can of Space Dust or African Amber. Now, I could make a meal of just the potato salad side - it's got pickles mixed in and so it's got a mild tang that nicely offsets the sweet and starch. My wife ordered the ginormous BBQ Loaded Baked Potato topped with pulled pork, loved it and half of it became a take-home lunch. We also like the J & L in Everett; more seating in Monroe and a chill vibe for a small restaurant. A plus also for the wonderful staff in Monroe, they are just so friendly every time we've been. read more

The BEST BBQ around! The gal (Lisa?) at the counter was amazing! Pulled pork melted in my mouth. The only problem I had was I can't eat black pepper, so some of the sides were not for me. Cole slaw was sweet with pineapple and dried cranberries. My out of town guests were more than impressed. We'll be back next time they visit!! read more

This is the same J&L we love in Everett and Snohomish Best BBQ I've ever had. There is not a single thing on the menu that you won't love. If it's your first time, get the brisket. Try everything later but do yourself a favor and eat the brisket plain. No sauce. No bread. No side. Get all that stuff too, but try it plain. You'll taste beef, smoke, and talent. You'll thank me. read more

Delicious, legit BBQ, which is so hard to find in the Pacific Northwest. Meat was delicious, tender, and flavorful. Sides are solid, especially the greens and baked beans. Yao many BBQ places around here completely fail on the sides, but not here! The gentleman working was very nice and overheard our kiddo gushing over how much he liked the food and he brought him out a slice of cornbread (also delicious). Will absolutely come back again when we're in the area! read more

We used J&L BBQ for our wedding reception! Great service! Great food! Everyone loved it! We will definitely use them again for future events! read more

My husband got a brisket sandwich and liked it. I got the collard greens & mac & cheese. The collard greens were a bit salty but I added some vinegar and they were fresh and yummy! The mac & cheese was a bit dry. I'd go back just for the greens! Yummy! read more

This place is awesome tried it for the first time today and it was just incredible food and customer service as well 5 stars for sure

Stopped in to treat a friend to some belated birthday BBQ. We both had the Brisket Dip Sandwich. One of us had the Mac and Cheese and the other the Baked Beans for our side choices. The sandwiches were delicious and I would not hesitate to order the same on a return visit. The brisket was nicely smoked, moist, and flavorful. Happy sounds were also heard when digging into the sides. Creamy, cheesy Mac and Cheese and the beans were exceptional. Upon entering the store we received a cheerful, friendly greeting from the woman behind the counter. She is an asset to this business and added to a very pleasant lunch experience. The restaurant space is a bit spartan, but I came for the BBQ, not ambience. Give these folks a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

Some of the best BBQ we've ever had, and that includes places in Texas. I don't know how they do it here, but the food is amazing and so is the customer service. The brisket is my #1. Sometimes we go in as a full family, and sometimes just for a date night. Both work. read more

We'll they know their BBQ! Food was amazing, both quality and quantity! Service was phenomenal, from ordering to pick up! This is my 5th or 6th time, I'm hooked & I'll be back! So glad to have home style meal in Monroe that tastes like Texas' best kept secret! read more

Great food, amazing service by Tina! And the BBQ is amazing. We had the ribs and the reds and gravy. The best!! Highly recommend going here.

Best BBQ in Snohomish county, their brisket is especially amazing as well as their collard greens (which are probably best in county as well). My wife and I always get the 2 meats/2 sides with brisket, pulled pork, Mac and cheese, and collard greens. We have had consistent delicious takeout 5 times in a row now. Stop in and the owner will be happy to let you sample the brisket, it's worth it alone! I would give 5 stars if only they either made or had some more sauce options. It's Sweet Baby Ray's (mild) and mixed with Sriracha (spicy). The meat and sides are easily 5 stars. read more
