Came here on a Saturday for an early dinner. It was relatively busy to my surprise but thankfully we had a reservation with nice booth seating. Vibes were chill and reminscent of the classic dining experience. I got the tenderloin off their specials menu and my wife got the slow cooked prime rib. My dish was cooked to perfection. I ordered medium rare and it was just that. Super tender and nicely seasoned. Smashed potatoes and broccoli also complemented it well. My wife's prime rib was smokey and tender as well. They let her swap out potatoes for brussel sprouts and gave her a horseradish sauce with no extra charge. Portions were also huge. She had to take some home and it was still just as good when we heated it back up later. Service was also quick and attentive. 12 Feb 2026 We hadn't been by in a while. Today, I ordered the roasted chicken and the husband the NY Strip. Mine comes with mashed potatoes and the husband went with the beefsteak tomatoes. Water and iced tea for drinks. The chicken was fine. The mashed were thinner than what I'm used to. The husband's steak while good, was a little tough. A bit disappointing. The service was terrific. Showed up with refills before we even realized we needed them. We'll give them another try soon. read more

We absolutely love J Alexanders. We made an online reservation at the Basse Rd location being that it was Father's Day. We went a couple of hours before just to confirm and see if we could get seated earlier and we did without any hesitation. Today was good. As always I really enjoy the pear martini .. it just refreshing with crystalized ginger. We went away from our norm and had prime rib with french fries. I love the shoestring fries. Had a reservation with friends and we didn't like the seats given and the staff was so gracious and understanding in getting us seated together. The atmosphere of the restaurant was moody just the way it should be for dinner, dim lights but not too dim to where you can't read the menu. Let's talk food. I got the ribs, they were all off the bone tender . My husband loved his steak. A way to know if the food is good is total silence while everyone was eating. Outstanding as always. First visited this chain in Oakbrook IL over 25 years ago. Chicken Tenders are still the best you can find and the filet dinner was perfectly cooked as well. Sides included fries and mac n cheese which were top notch as well. Dessert was the pumpkin pie which was a slice the size of a human hand. Generous portions of expertly cooked food are the hallmark of this name, even after 25 years. Small complaint was the server did not know a single thing about beer, wine, or liquor (she did not appear old enough to drink) and at an establishment of this level, this is a mistake. Make your servers pass basic knowledge tests about alcohol please before they are on the floor on their own selling it. read more

I typically enjoy the food and atmosphere at J. Alexander's, which is why today's experience was so surprising. During my visit, there was a large dog in the indoor dining area that did not appear to be a service animal. Given that the restaurant has outdoor seating available, this was especially concerning and felt inappropriate for an indoor dining environment. More troubling, the situation appeared to go unaddressed. I expect better attention to policy, cleanliness, and guest experience from J. Alexander's. read more

Husband ordered crab cakes and highly recommends to Avoid this item. He stated that frozen crab cakes are much better and felt that the cakes served were stuffed or mixed with some kind of white fish, making them tasteless. read more

Stopping by J. Alexander's on Father's Day without a reservation and since the restaurant was packed, we had at least a 45-minute wait but luckily, I found some spots at the bar...whew, crisis averted. After looking over the menu I order the special of the day, medium rare with a side back potato and grilled carrots on the side. While waiting I also get an Old Fashioned and it was made just right so kudos to the bar tender. When my order came out, I noticed the steak was overdone and was medium well so I pointed this out to the server, and he agreed that it was overdone and that he would get another order fired up to replace this steak. When the server comes back, he apologies and informs me they have run out of the special of the day and asked if wanted another option. I told him that I would take the steak as it was as I was really hungry. Even though the steak was overdone, it was still very tasty as was the baked potato and carrots. Our server came back and informed me they had decided to comp my meal and once again offered their apologies. I told him I appreciated the comp and thank him and the management staff for making things right. Overall, the meal was good as was the atmosphere and staff. My (adult) kids and I went to J Alexander for my youngest's 30th birthday. I had made reservations about an hour earlier, and mentioned that we were celebrating a birthday...when we arrived our host handed my son a birthday card! That was a nice touch! Service was amazing and the food was delicious, especially the Mexican queso with spinach and the carrot cake! I dont even like carrot cake, and this was delicious! I had the ahi tuna, which was flavorful and cooked well. The next time I go, I am definitely getting the queso AND the carrot cake! read more

As for me and my wife, we just celebrated our 36th anniversary here. Maybe y'all need to come to SA. We had a great experience, plus San Antonio, yo'. Our server was Jordan. He was great. We got cocktails for our hors d'oeuvre and dessert. If you like espresso martinis, give theirs a try. It's very good and a little coffee forward. I'm not mad at that. We split the Prime Rib, and they cooked each half to order. It was delicious. And to top it off, the au jus is gluten free, which is rare. Most are not, and my wife needs GF. Be aware, we paid a split fee, but we will get another meal out of this, so we're not mad at that either. It was a very good meal at a great price. We would come back, no question. We started with the deviled eggs, followed by side salads - very fresh with delicious house-made salad dressings. Our entrees were the filet with a loaded baked potato and the swordfish special. WOW, wonderful service and food. We went the day after Valentine's Day to avoid the crazy hustle and bustle of a Friday night holiday. We made a reservation so there was no wait when we arrived to get our table. The atmosphere was nice and quiet, though it was a little bit dark so if you have a hard time seeing the dark, be cautious. The shrimp appetizer was delightful and reminded my husband and I of our trips to Hawaii. We both ordered the filet with potatoes which, no surprise, was very tender and juicy. Came here to celebrate my mother in laws birthday and we were all very pleased. We set a reservation ahead of time, so we were seated immediately. But there is a separate bar area where you can grab a drink while you wait. Everything made to order. The menu features a large selection of American cuisine. Everything is made very well. We tried J Alexander's again and explained our previous experience and ordered the food to please be hot when it comes out The waiter listened to understand and I really appreciated his attention to detail. The manager came over to assure us this would not be the case during our visit. I thought it was a true testament how they are listening to us. Very nice upscale American food restaurant. The prime rib is delish and the other dishes I have had are too. This is one of our celebratory places to eat. I threw a surprise birthday party for a friend there and they were wonderful in accommodating us. We started in the bar then moved into the restaurant for dinner. They even did separate tickets since people ordered whatever they wanted. The Carrot Cake I ordered from them was loved by all.
