My experience was the worst. From the moment of arrival to departure, the host/servers were very unprofessional. Using profanity in the presence of guest and speaking inappropriate about current guest in the open. Maybe new management is needed, or training courses for all employees on conduct. So to begin with a positive, the steak rolls were quite good. The two bartenders, Tyler and another young man whose name I can't recall, were clearly not getting along and audibly fighting in front of customers. We ordered wine and asked for a glass of water as well which we did not receive. After asking two more times we eventually got water. I ordered the rainbow roll which was fine and my mother ordered the chicken and pasta soup. The soup was brought out at least ten minutes after the sushi and was cold and over salted. Tyler may have been having a bad day, but I myself am a bartender and believe when you work in the service industry you need to leave the attitude in the back where the guests can't see it. He did take the soup off the check but his sour attitude and lack of attention made for an overall unpleasant dining experience. read more

After hearing so many great reviews, I had to try this restaurant and boy was I not disappointed! The vibe is on point... jazz music playing softly in the background, reflective art placed strategically around the building and square tables, half moon booths and round tables! Love it! I dined on the special of the evening, Thai BBQ Salmon with lime corn and rice. My guest had the stuffed shrimp with crab meat. Yum! This was our first visit but definitely not our last. I had the Tuscan Steak while my husband had the Cowboy Steak. K cooked them to perfection. We just ate here, which we drove an hour to do. We ordered ribs, which were dry and not enough sauce. My hubby ordered a burger, his burger was dry and also the bun. The Mac and cheese was dripping like water, which I'm assuming was cheese sauce. I've never had Mac and cheese like that before!! My broccoli came out cold! We paid a lot of money to be disappointed at the service, it was not worth all we paid!!!! We will not be back! Even the waitress didn't even ask us for refills on drinks until we were about ready to leave, so good customer service could have been better. I may be a biased on this opinion because I love french fries lol but their string fries are better than I've tasted at other places! And they give you so much The staff was awesome, food came quickly, presentation very was nice! The restuarant really worked great as a team, we got catered by several servers. They all knew exactly what we needed, HOW IDK?! I thought, is our waitress watching us and sending signals to the nearest server to assist us?? Wow! Just great teamwork! Well they kind of had me before I even walked in! We are new to town and on the way to the mall we saw J. Alexander and it looked so nice and upscale from the street! So our family decided almost immediately after we drove by to eat there. So going inside the atmosphere is bomb. Low lights and intimate but easy to see at the table with lights beaming directly on the table. Love the place!! Now for the important part...the food! We had steak rolls and spinach queso dip for the appetizer. I liked both of them. Main courses consisted of Prime Rib...OMG it melted in my mouth! The NYO MAC and Cheese is AMAZING! I wish it was my average Mac and cheese lol. Mashed potatoes...Bomb! Rotisserie chicken was juicy...very impressive chicken options. Overall we were extremely happy! My husband and I were looking on yelp and checking out reviews when we came across J Alexander's. We looked at the menus which sounded amazing...then we went to the reviews as we always do...so many good reviews so we tried it. They were busy but it's a pretty big place and wait staff was very friendly and helpful making suggestion. Food was wonderful. We got steak rolls and my husband got a French dip and I got the Jacks chicken fingers. The waitress assured me that the chicken tenders would be the best ever and boy she didn't lie. It was a huge plate and the chicken tenders were fried white meat but so tender that when u picked up with a fork they would fall apart. Don't know how they could do that but they were sooo good!!! I had been wanting to check this out as it looked like it would be a nice place. A group of colleagues and I went for lunch. Walking in, the ambiance was lovely. Very spacious and relaxed. Waitstaff attentive and friendly - sadly the food was way below par. To start we ordered Deviled eggs - tasty but overpriced for nothing special. Queso spinach dip - this was the best part of the meal, would recommend this and the Steak rolls - also tasty but a bit fatty. For main course I had the Steak and Fries - Very disappointing! The steak was thin, chewy, fatty and not even tasty blech left more that half behind. The fries were overcooked shoe strings that also couldn't be eaten. Service was good as usually but the quality of their stake took a nose dive since my last visit. It was smaller for sure and the quality was average at best. We tried this restaurant for the first time... the place was very welcoming from the time we entered the building.. prices were very reasonable and steak choices were plentiful..We chose to eat at the bar... bartender was great at answering our questions and making a few suggestions... I really liked the fact we were allowed to make some substitutes. We decided to try this relatively new restaurant recently after a long day of appointments in Chapel Hill. Although it was 3:30 in the afternoon, we had not yet had lunch and welcomed a chance to relax over a leisurely meal. The restaurant is lovely, in a great location, and the hostess was friendly. Since it was 3:30 on a Friday afternoon, there were several bar patrons; but, we only saw one other table with diners. After settling into a booth, I commented to my husband how cold it felt in the restaurant (I'm usually extremely warm, so I was surprised). When our server came to the table for our drink order and asked how we were doing, we indicated to her that we were uncomfortably cold. She shrugged it off by saying that another table had said the same thing; but that it was hot earlier. (Okay . . . I think?) The server brought our water and my husband's soft drink and said that she was brewing me fresh coffee. (Kudos, fresh coffee always gets my vote!) A couple of minutes later, the server returned to say that she had realized that our booth was directly under a vent and she offered to move us. (Good deal!) We moved and the next booth was much more comfortable! My husband ordered a Hyde Park (grilled chicken sandwich) and, after asking what the featured fish was, I decided on the grilled Scottish salmon. The server brought my coffee and we settled back to relax and await our food. First off, another young woman (later it turned out that her name was Faith), came and topped our waters and picked up the empty sugar packet from our table. Moments later, a young man came to the table and said his name was Gian(?) and he would be taking care of us. When he saw our blank expressions, he asked if (a name we didn't catch) hadn't explained to us that she was leaving and he would be our server? Um, nope! But, yes, shift change. (Gotcha.) A few minutes after that, Faith brought us our food. (We assumed that Faith was the runner since our only contact with her had been when she topped our water and now as she brought our food.) As we ate, we discussed several things that surprised us: ° We were surprised to discover that the orzo and wild rice that accompanied my fish was a cold dish. I would never have chosen a cold side with my salmon. I'm allergic to corn and there was an abundance of it in the orzo and rice (again, with no description in the menu, how would I have known?). ° Since no one ever came by to check on us, we were unable to comment on the orzo or order me a substitute. ° Although the restaurant remained virtually empty the entire time we were there, there were quite a number of servers in evidence (they were standing around in groups, chatting). ° Gian (our self proclaimed server) never returned to check on us. ° Faith brought more water. ° We saw someone who we thought might be the GM; but, he never approached our table to check on us. It was only when Faith brought our bill that we discovered that SHE was our server. Overall, our experience proved to be extremely uneven: the portion sizes were adequate, we had to ask about daily specials, service appeared to be unorganized in that we had three different servers during our short visit, and management was inattentive to guests. I would hate to think how different our visit may have been if we had visited during a busy time of day. We plan on returning at some point in the future. We're hoping that some of the inexperience exhibited by the wait staff and management will be resolved by our next visit. read more

This was a wonderful find! The menu was very diverse...appetizers, soups, salads, sushi rolls, sandwiches and burgers, and entrees. I had the Old Fashion burger that was delicious and cooked to perfection. The Thai Kai was served in abundance with shaved chicken and lightly covered in an Asian dressing, which was awesome. Food is always disappointing. Many items on the menu sound good, but very average food. Great customer service though!

The interior is beautiful and cozy. I could sit and relax for hours. The prices are high so be aware. Our server was wonderful and very sweet. They are definitely a step above other restaurants when it comes to their food. The kitchen is visible from the restaurant and every cook and chef is dressed very well. We ordered the steak rolls for an app which were delicious. My husband got sushi and I had prime rib. Both of our dishes came out quite fast for it being dinner time. We both enjoyed our meals and were too stuffed to have dessert. I think the price fit the food they deliver. It would be a great place for a business luncheon. read more

I was worried about coming to a large sit down restaurant for a short lunch break but the service team got me in and out in no time and was very attentive. OK, first time trying it and made reservation for 7 people at only available time 8pm. Got there a little before 8 and didn't get seated until 9:15. Not the restaurants fault but the manager on duty (Rob) couldn't have been better about trying to take care of us. He was constantly coming over and apologizing and trying to offer us things to munch. This guy went so above and beyond what was expected is was scary but as a person that eats out most of the time, this is NOT the norm. Food was very good, service was great and manager ended up comping the drinks, appetizers and desert!! We didn't ask for any of that, in fact told him it wasn't necessary but he did it anyway. I assure you of this Rob, I will go out of my way to let people know that you, as well as your staff are in the customer service business as well as the restaurant business. GREAT JOB!! read more

This is actually my third time eating here and I must say the food is really good. I've been to the one in franklin TN and the Raleigh location twice. I've had the fillet mignon and the salmon, both excellent choices. However, the creamed spinach steals the show. It's perfect. The only minor thing I dislike is the lighting. We decided to try out a new place for brunch since our favorite, Winstons is temporarily no longer open on Sundays. Well, we were totally delighted by going there today. The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. We went for brunch with another couple and all 4 of our dishes were great. We eat out every day and so were are very picky about both food and service. My husband said that his chicken sandwich was the best he has ever had in Raleigh. I had a wonderful shrimp salad with homemade Thousand Island dressing and a friend had a wonderful looking spicy hamburger with the most delightful looking stack of tiny french fries piled high. We are definitely going to be adding this to our circuit of restaurants now. I rarely write a review but in this day when service is so difficult for restaurants to find, I want to give my "hats off" for this service and food today!! read more
