Pork chop with mashed potatoes and broccoli
    Howard M.

I decided to check out J. Alexander's while staying at a nearby hotel. A last minute craving for a good meal. I've always heard good things about this place, and it lived up to the hype. It was busy when we got there, but we grabbed a seat outside after a short wait. Definitely a popular dinner spot. I was in the mood for some comfort food. I had the double-cut pork chop (cooked medium) with smashed potatoes and broccoli. The portions were huge, the sauce was amazing, and everything was delicious. If you're after a hearty, satisfying dinner, J. Alexander's won't disappoint.

I was here for New Year's Eve. The service was excellent. We had a private booth in the back of the restaurant, which was nice. It was private enough yet we could still see the hustle and bustle going on. The calamari appetizer was a nice start. It is made in a house and not pre-frozen out of a bag. They marinate it to tenderize the calamari first. I found it to be good but too soft for me. It was almost mushy underneath and crispy coating. I had the prime rib with loaded, baked potato as an entrée. The prime rib shined! This is one of their main features on their menu. The loaded baked potato was humongous. It could be a meal by itself. I only ate about half of it next time I would probably order asparagus or other vegetables as a side. Overall, it was a good experience and I will be back to try more items on the menu. The place has a solid reputation. I also remember a bread pudding, dessert that I want to try.

anytime coming to J alexander's the service is always amazing and they always treat you like royalty. this is kind one of the only high-end restaurants where I live so we come here at least a few times a month. This is the first time I tried the Ahi tuna sandwich and it was so filling and tasty I ordered it with a butternut squash, and they made it with butter, cinnamon, and sugar, which is the first time I've ever had that on squash my father always likes the rotisserie chicken and everything was just divine.

Old Fashioned Cheeseburger w/ NYO Mac & Cheese

I've been to this restaurant a few times & I have nothing but great things to say about it. Whether it's been for a lunch or dinner, the experience is always wonderful. Service is on point, the food is consistent, drinks are strong (but mixed well) & the overall atmosphere is solid. This place serves up an amazing burger that I would recommend to anyone who comes. There's something about the combination of cheddar & their patty that makes one of the best tasting burgers I've ever had. It's cooked perfectly to my specified temperature every time & truly mouth watering. The prime rib sandwich is also a winner. The aged beef they use is delicious, it's insanely tender & the au jus is wonderful. Their steaks are out of this world also. Whatever your preferred cut, it's guaranteed to be high quality & cooked exactly as you like. Between these options it makes it almost impossible to choose what to order but that's not necessarily a bad problem to have! Their calamari is incredible, as well. Definitely a great way to start your meal. The shoestring fries are crispy, loaded with flavor & served in massive portions. My personal favorite side is the "NYO Mac & cheese" though. It's baked to order & can't be forgotten about. I usually wouldn't go this far but if you like Mac & cheese you NEED to order it, no questions asked. You can really taste the variety of different cheeses they put into it. It's creamy, rich, has a beautifully baked top layer of cheese & is just all around perfect. The bartenders serve some great beverages that taste amazing. You definitely get your moneys worth. The servers are always friendly & do a great job at making sure your business feels appreciated. Tables are turned quickly, dishes are picked up promptly & glasses are kept topped off. This is by far one of my favorite steakhouses & I'd suggest giving them a visit if you're thinking about it. The prices are more than fair for everything you get.

My sisters and I had a fantastic lunch date this weekend. Our waitress, Priscilla, was the absolute best! She was attentive and had fun with us & our crazy personalities! The food and drinks were delicious. We ordered: * Classic Margarita * Cindy's Lemon Drop Martini * The Duke Martini * Alex's Salad w/ Blackened Salmon & Bleu Cheese dressing (Absolutely DELICIOUS) * Paradise Coast Kale Salad * Grilled Chicken Salad

09/19 - Friday Evening Nothing much has changed here, service is still great, and the food continues to be consistently good. I always order the Prime Rib seared on both sides (probably the only one who does!), and even though I can be a bit picky, the staff has always been accommodating. We come at least once a month, and they've managed to stay reliable and consistent. Keep it up, guys!

We went for an early dinner, we don't live near there but we're in the area. It was yummy!! We shared artichokes app; I had the veggie burger and chose coleslaw my side; Husb had the French dip w/ fries..everything was sooo so good. I also had old fashioned cocktail the best ever. Jackie our server was incredible!! Ambiance was perfect altho there were two toddlers that weren't happy.

Calamari that was on special. It was delicious. So fresh.

Love this restaurant. The food is amazing no matter what dish you get! Drinks are always so good. The martinis come with a little side car as well so it's like you get 2 for the price of 1. All of their salad dressings are made home made. I had the cypress salad which comes with ranch and I also asked for a side of honey Dijon. Both were amazing. The calamari was so fresh. The lighting inside is very dim lit so it is more of a romantic vibe. Service was amazing. Our server Jake was very attentive and modified food orders for us, and checked in regularly to make sure we had what we needed. Highly recommend for a more upscale dinner!

I was so hungry and craving a good juicy burger. (Hence no photos, I ate it too quickly) I ordered an old fashioned burger. It was prepared exactly the way I wanted, with aged tillamook cheddar, grilled onion, served with the extra ketchup and mustard I requested. The service was excellent. Judeah took such good care of us checking to make sure we were enjoying our food and refilling our water glasses whenever they got low. My friend thought her burger was overcooked. The manager quickly took it away and prepared a new burger with fresh new fries etc. She devoured it. We loved the ambience as well. We didn't want to leave so we ordered dessert. My friend and I split the house made blond brownie with vanilla ice cream & caramel drizzle. My friend loved her key lime pie. Portions are large so plan to share. Great experience. We will return soon.

I always love coming here. The service is always great and the staff are very professional. I've never had a bad experience here. I tend to come for special occasions and family get togethers. I ordered an IPA this time instead of a martini which was pretty decent. I never stray away from my favorite dish; the ahi tuna. I highly recommend it! My mom got some fish and we also had an app to share. The ambiance was very chill and relaxing. It's not loud like some other restaurants. Our server was very kind as well and was on top of things.

Not only was he very apologetic, he seemed like he actually cared about making the situation right. After inquiring a bit more about the service that night he graciously invited me back for another meal. I understand mistakes happens so it's truly about how they're taken care of after the fact. In this case, it was handled well. I decided to come for brunch this time & overall, it was a really good meal. They weren't super busy but service was good. Our appetizers, drinks & meals all came out in a timely manner. For the most part, everything was right but one of the hash brown sides came out cold (it was quickly swapped for fresh ones). My chicken & waffles were delicious. I especially liked how freshly breaded/fried the chicken was. There was a misunderstanding when it came to ordering our drinks, however. I ordered one that should've came iced but got the other coffee beverage which is served warm. When I brought it up to the waiter he was adamant that it's what I ordered & how it's served. After I questioned it once more, he stuck to that, so I kept the drink. Thankfully, it tasted really good & was poured well but it wasn't what I ordered. It was just a bit off putting that he said it was. He said he'd take the drinks off but this was after we went back & forth about it. This isn't a make or break situation for me but he was set in his ways. As a server, you need to be as adaptive as possible, even if you believe you're right. I'm super thankful to have been invited back because it was a nice meal, as I expected. I'm glad I can now tell people to try them out in good conscience. If you're looking for some delicious food, tasty drinks & good service then you should stop by. They have something for everyone & their staff does a solid job.

Like "let's take pictures before we eat because this patio belongs in a lifestyle magazine" gorgeous. Las Olas energy at its finest. The outdoor seating is fantastic, the atmosphere feels upscale without being stuffy, and honestly, the food was outstanding. Which is why this hurts. We came for Mother's Day brunch and intentionally avoided rushing over for happy hour pricing because we wanted a relaxed meal. Adult decision. Responsible. Mature. Mistake number one apparently. Started with the charred corn and avocado dip and I need whoever created that dish to be recognized with some sort of civic award. Ridiculously good. One of those appetizers where you immediately start calculating whether licking the bowl in public is socially acceptable. Then came the steak and eggs discussion. My wife and I were both looking at the steak and eggs listed on the menu for $26.75. Our waiter explained that the standard steak was only four ounces and casually suggested upgrading to a six ounce or eight ounce cut instead. Now listen carefully because this is where the plot twists into a financial thriller. At no point during this conversation was pricing for the upgrade mentioned. And shame on me for not asking. That part is absolutely on me. But the suggestion was delivered with the same casual energy as "would you like fries with that?" So I upgraded to the eight ounce. My wife went with the six ounce. She also had a margarita she loved. We skipped dessert because we were stuffed and, as it turns out, accidentally entering a luxury cattle futures market. Then the handheld payment machine arrived. $175. I stared at that screen like it had just informed me my mortgage was due immediately. Turns out those extra six ounces of sirloin between the two plates carried an upcharge that could finance a small fishing boat. Roughly ten dollars an ounce for the upgrade. Somewhere, a Wagyu cow laughed at me from a distance. And look, before anybody jumps in, yes... I should have asked. Lesson learned. But restaurants also know exactly what they're doing when upgrade pricing gets floated around casually without numbers attached. There's a difference between upselling and a sneak attack. Which makes this review frustrating because I genuinely loved almost everything else. The food was excellent. The atmosphere was fantastic. Service was friendly. But nothing tanks the ending of a brunch quite like feeling blindsided by steak math. Pro tip for future diners: If they suggest the upgraded steak, ask the price immediately. Ask twice. Possibly get it notarized. Three stars because I really do want to come back someday. But right now I still feel like I got hit with a reverse happy hour.

It's fairly close to Sawgrass Mills mall and is in a plaza with a good amount of parking. Although the outside seems small, the space inside is pretty long and has a good amount of seating. The servining is "chipotle-style" where you order your food and customize it how you want it and pay at the register at the end. Ally's comfort Café has been a staple in Northwest Davie forever. *Now, Ally, moved away a little while ago and new owners took over. They kept the same recipes which made us hopeful that things would pretty much remain the same. But little by little all of the staff that had been there for years started leaving. I think there's only a couple of the longtime staff left. We'll get back to the staff in a moment. My wife and I go to Ally's every Saturday morning. We go there have a great breakfast and then go to the Publix next-door to do our weekly shopping. There's obviously going to be hiccups when new owners take over a restaurant. We totally understand this. But some things are just not improving. They open at 8 AM on Saturdays. But, between 8 and 9 AM there's only one waitress and one bus boy this didn't always used to be the case. They used to have the full staff and someone at the door to take names. He would also help out by getting you drinks or more coffee if you needed it. It worked really well for the small family restaurant. The new owners took over and at some point they decided they only needed limited staff between 8 and 9 AM on Saturdays. And of course, every Saturday my wife and I go in there. It gets packed and the waitress is running around like her head is cut off and the busboy is overwhelmed. This isn't a one time thing it has been constant since they made the staffing change. It's completely unfair to the waitress and busboy and it's also a complete turn off to patrons who have to wait sometimes up to 10 or 15 minutes just for the poor waitress to come and take their order this morning. A couple waited 20 minutes before their order was taken. Also, the owner/manager doesn't get there until almost 9 herself, which means there's no management in the restaurant to help with the register or put out "fires." It. Is. Not. Working. Ally's has been known for their specials for years. They always have amazing special pancakes and special French toast. It's one of the main reasons we still go there. It's our little weekly treat. Lately the specials have been very monotonous. Some sort of jelly put on some French toast or some sort of cream put on a pancake. Not real imaginative for instance, today was banana cream and chocolate pancakes. It was a dollop of banana cream on a chocolate pancake that had little taste. One could've added some fresh bananas, or maybe some whipped cream on top of that. Meanwhile, the special pancakes and special French toast are often made wrong by the staff. This happened this morning. It took them twice to get the pancakes right and three times to get the French toast, right. Again, this is not a one time occur occurrence. We never complain. But we were surprised to still see those items on the bill and not discounted at all, but that's OK. The thing that really drove me to write this review, is that I waited for more than 10 minutes to speak to the owner/manager on our way out. I thought the best way to handle our dissatisfaction would be to speak to her personally. She disappeared into the kitchen, and even after the waitress went to tell her we were waiting to speak with her, she was nowhere to be found. No I understand things come up in the kitchen, but she could've at least came out and said hey I know you're here, I'm dealing with a problem, I'll be right back. But we waited and waited and waited and nothing despite all of the above, that's what irked me the most. I will say this. The food is still very good. And the waitresses and buses are amazing. None of this is their fault. They should all be paid more in dealing with a kitchen that can't get right and an owner that can't seem to figure out good customer service. We will certainly give them another chance, it's part of our routine. But after biting my tongue, I had to let everyone know what was happening at one of our favorite spots in Broward County.

The Food We didn't hold back on the menu, and honestly,…read moreeverything hit the mark: * Breakfast Pizza: This was a standout. Perfectly thin, crispy crust topped with fluffy scrambled eggs, sausage, and fresh veggies. It's a great twist on a classic and very shareable. * Chicken and Waffles: The waffles were thick and airy with just the right amount of powdered sugar and butter. The chicken was crispy and seasoned well--definitely a soul-food win. * French Toast: If you have a sweet tooth, get this. It came topped with fresh berries and paired perfectly with their syrup. * Sides & Sips: The grits were creamy, and the cocktails I knocked about 6 old fashioned and the lemon drops were refreshing and well-made. The Vibe The outdoor seating area has a great atmosphere--lively but relaxed. It's an ideal spot for a "Sunday Funday" or a break from shopping. The service was attentive, and the food came out hot and fresh

TLDR; don't eat here…read more Today I went with my coworkers to brunch to celebrate one of our coworkers' new baby. We were in great spirits and the energy was good while the dj was playing good music. We were catching up and vibing. I will start by saying while I loved being with my coworkers I would not return again. The server was new and nice. We all ordered drinks - espresso martinis, fire and ice mojito, aperol spritz, lemonade, cappuccino etc. The espresso martinis were watery coffee drinks missing baileys. The fire and ice mojito was so sweet and had no taste of rum. I asked for a regular mojito instead and still sweet but better. And the lemonade was forgotten until we reminded the server while we already had our food. We all ordered after drinks - salads, shrimp and grits, breakfast plate, and chicken and waffles. My chicken and waffles were okay the syrup came out cold and the butter was an interesting consistency... They messed up the salad orders. The shrimp and grits my friend got tasted like they forgot to put oil until the end. And my one coworker asked for no meat and they brought it out for her on the side. Overall, I was disappointed with the food and drinks. Based on this experience I would not recommend. And to Matchbox, please do better.
