Always a good service when dining at the bar. Great food and atmosphere. This dish has been better on other days.

It was so good, the J must stand for Joe, right? And BOGO Martinis? WTF! It's like a milkshake where you get the extra bonus part in the metal container, but with delicious boozy martini remnants! So I don't recommend 3... just sayin'. Bonus refills were killer, literally! I had the tequila one, the espresso one, and the Duke (the most classic) and all were great. Service here was amazing. First, sitting at the bar and having a drink before dinner as we waited for everyone to arrive. Great, talkative and informative bartenders. Loved it! And the waiter was excellent as well and just nailed it. So friendly and attentive. We started off with the Shrimp Appetizer (Fried and spicy) and these were good. They came out quick and were woofed down by our party of 3. For dinner, I had the the crab cakes (are they native to Memphis?) and they were delicious... as were the sides of couscous and Mac-n-cheese. Double Carbs, please! Others enjoyed their meals as well (Steaks and what not) and drinks and everything. This was a great stop outside of Memphis and was worth the trip from downtown. Although I didn't pay, so I don't really know if it was worth it. But everything was great AF! I'd go back and maybe seek out this chain again in other cities. Great job!

Always a great experience. Grabbed the last bar seat on Valentine's Day since they had a 1.5 hour wait and cars lined up outside the parking lot. Had the redfish and a cocktail. The vibe and food were superb as always.

    J. Alexander's sets itself apart with an expansive cocktail menu, consistently perfectly cooked steaks, and the best crab cakes in town. The restaurant and parking lot tend to get crowded at dinner time, but the pacing of the food and service is always quick. At night, the restaurant is dimly lit. During the day, it has ample natural lighting. The prices are rather high compared to local establishments but I go back for the consistency and the drinks.

My husband and I went for a dinner last night to celebrate our anniversary. And had another great experience. Our server had such a sweet disposition and provided exceptional hospitality (Bailey S.). We selected our favorites, their veggie burger with potatoes and the chicken salad. Bailey's recommendation of the peanut butter pie was spot on. So smooth, it had a hint of peanut butter and just enough sweetness, not overly sweet. Enjoyed it, thank you.

I haven't been here in over a decade. A friend went for her birthday celebration, so this was my chance to get back in and see what they have. I ordered the salmon, broccoli, and wild rice. Everything was delicious! I also tried the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich, and it was delicious. The service was awesome! Our server was very attentive and check in us often. The vibe is super cute and cozy. It is definitely conducive for a group outing or a date night. I am looking forward to going back again.

Great service, well prepared and presented dishes but a bit on the pricey side for what it is. Don't get me wrong, there are more affordable dishes on the menu but when you are craving prime rib...you gotta have it. Nadia, our waitress was attentive and kept a smile on her face even though she was stretched thin! Note: the reservation platforms and their website state general dress code requirements but they are not enforced. Come clean and decently dressed and you'll be fine. The ambiance here is moody in a good way: low light, cozy table placement, and real candle lighting. Great for special occasions or just a great meal with friends or colleagues!

I came in for a quick dinner. No waiting bar seating available. Service was quick and friendly. The ambiance was average. The food came out in a timely manner. My salad was delicious. Calamari was ok! The service team was exceptional. Great teamwork and customer service.

The food was very good and the service was excellent. It is a great spot to come with friends or family after shopping for a fulfilling meal. My only complaint is that they were out of several of the things on the specialty menu like drinks and entrees. I will say that it is snowing in the city which might have delayed shipping. Ultimately, this is somewhere I would return to because of the quality food, great service, and convenient location.

We've actually never been to J. Alexander's so we decided to give it a try for dinner. We arrived around 6 pm, and there was already a 30-minute wait. No biggie since they have a nice big waiting area just outside the entrance. Our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating. I requested a red sangria since I couldn't find anything on the menu I really wanted, she accidentally brought me a white sangria instead but it was still good so I didn't mind lol! We started with the calamari, which was nicely fried and the calamari was tender. For dinner, I ordered the slow-roasted prime rib and opted for mac & cheese on the side, and my boyfriend got the NY strip. The prime rib was incredibly tender and packed with flavor, and the portion size was very generous. I tried a bite of my boyfriend's NY strip but found it a bit salty for my taste. The mac & cheese was also amazing, definitely a standout side! Overall, it was an enjoyable experience and I'd come back again! Though I wish the lighting wasn't so dark inside.

Chicken Milanese was a tasty treat!! Must love garlic

Met my wife and young daughter there after work for a treat dinner out. The restaurant is clean and well kept the staff was friendly and helpful. Our server must have been new and had to make multiple trips to ask questions which is fine but most of the questions should have been easy to answer. It is disappointing when a restaurant doesn't have anything for kids and the lack of a physical child's menu and crayons seems like a weird place to try and save 25 cents. The food was mostly good, I had the filet kabobs which were undercooked and a couple of pieces sinew which I could not eat. We had a side of Mac and cheese which was awful, clearly reheated and the cheese was watery clumps. With tip dinner was pretty close to $200 for 2 adults and a toddler, so not cheap and at that price point I expect better than that.

    J. Alexander's is one of my favorite spots! I stop by the bar every once in a while for a dirty martini--it's the only time I actually enjoy blue cheese, and they do it perfectly. The service is always excellent, whether I'm at the bar or dining in. I've had dinner here plenty of times, and the prime rib is consistently great. The salads are always fresh and delicious too. Highly recommend for a drink, a meal, or both!

The energy in the place is infectious and it is the kind of restaurant you want to come back to again and again. I ordered the Wildfire Burger, and it is honestly one of the best burgers I have had. It is made with black angus beef, 44 Farms Philly Steak, queso, peppers, onions, mushrooms, jalapenos, and Pepper Jack, all served with hand cut fries. Every bite was bold, juicy, and packed with flavor. The hand cut fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned to match. We also shared the Hot Mama 12 inch pizza with a chicken substitute, and it was outstanding. Fresh herbs, tomato sauce, mozzarella, red pepper flakes, basil, and local honey on a perfectly baked crust. The combination of heat and sweetness from the honey made it stand out from any pizza I have had recently. The menu here is creative and extensive, covering everything from shareables and salads to burgers, sandwiches, bowls, and saucer pies. There is truly something for everyone. The service was great and the whole experience felt well put together from start to finish. I do believe C and I have only been here once as a couple. It did not go well at all, so we have not been back together, as she is holding a bit of a grudge. It's a long story but it all ties back to service. That night we had the worst table in the building and service was spotty at best. Food was still pretty good, just whole ass annoyed by the entirety of the rest of the experience. I am lucky enough to be able to be taken to/host dinner with clients and manufacturers a good bit. They like places like this so I get by ever so often. Gotta love expensed meals!!! Tehehe I like the open kitchen concept they have and the bar is really cool. The metal shelves at the bar that store the booze are bad ass. It's warm and cozy and has a great vibe overall. The last time we sat on the enclosed patio. I had not sat out there before. I think the larger tables all go out there. We had seven and there was another group of about twenty in the same room with us. Food ranges from fairly good to fucking great. I've never had anything bad here, but a few sighs have been had, mostly by misunderstood expectations of what I was getting I would say. So, quite possibly I am the problem. As with most of my problems, actually... The oysters Rockefeller are very different from the norm. Fried oysters on a side of spinach. That's what it seems like. I ate it up, don't get me wrong. I did just switch to only fried oysters after the first one. No need wasting stomach space on spinach. Charbroiled oysters is always a good move and the preparation remains traditional on that one. I do find the oysters to be quite massive and hard to chew the whole thing at once. Cutting them just seems silly though. Steaks are prepared very well and to your liking each time. I have never had a bad one. Good flavor too. I am going to spring on the Hawaiian Ribeye the next time I go on my dime. It's a classic that I remember from Steak and Ale as well as Houston's. Both now gone from Memphis. I like the she crab soup an awful lot, and just about every entree I have had here is killer. You really cannot go wrong with the food. Just order something you normally like and boom. I will also say this. The short ribs I had last time were some of the best I have ever had. Bravo on that! Additionally, I had two giant pieces for like $40! I could only eat one of them after all of the appetizers. Oh.... Yea. They have a hot lobster roll that is good! You don't see that in Memphis very often!! Get you some. Wait.... Lamb Lollipops. They have evolved some of the years but they have really good lamb chops. They used to be the exact same dish as their sister concepts of Itta Bena, BB Kings, and Lafayette's. I am not sure if the whole family still has the old version or not. Here it has changed a good bit. As I write this, I crave it.... Ugh. Damn your foods and your seductive prowess food skills! Lastly, Tommy Peters did great things for this city's food scene. I am sad that he is gone but I know he was proud of this one! Ok. That's enough, Adam.... No one reads this crap anyway. '26 - 48

Our darling Annalise server was extremely friendly. We loved the presentation of our dinner, but the octopus was a bit soft for our taste. I've had plenty of octopus in other cities and understand the dish is typically more expensive, but a small single mediocre tentacle is quite pricey for $28. I personally prefer a crispy and firmer chew for octopus. The scallops and shishito peppers were a delightful pairing. Valet parking shouldn't be forced upon the customer though? I felt bad that I don't carry cash to tip the valet, and valet is mandatory unless you want to park on the side streets and walk over. Do carry any cash! I wish that a portion of the parking lot was open for self parking though as those boys don't need to help out every guest who don't need valet and subjecting them to wait around for the boys to grab cars that we're perfectly capable of doing ourselves.
