Unfortunately, this place really didn't meet my expectations. The service was casual, but the food just really feels underwhelming. I was definitely expecting a more traditional batter for the fish, but it kind of felt like fish chicken tenders. There was some sort of shrimp, ceviche dish, and the shrimp were almost microscopic. Unfortunately, I definitely don't think I would come back to this restaurant. Obviously I think it's a chain, but I think they can improve on the quantity of food that they provide. An oldie but a goodie for fish and chips. Cooked to order, the Cajun cod is spicy but not overwhelming. My coleslaw is better than Ivar's. I have heard of Ivar's from the previous visit we had here in Seattle. If I'm not mistaken, they have their flagship restaurant in downtown Seattle. I've asked our local friend if there is a Ivar's branch close by and thankfully, they have one here at Bothell. Entering the local restaurant, I like the clean and bright vibe with clear indications of their menu. We ordered both their Alaska True Cod and Panko Crusted Cod, as well as their Clam Chowder. I love their Alaska True Cod the best. It has a slight crunch outside, but the moist flakey inside is sure a hit. With Seattle dishing out one of the best chowders around, Ivar's is no slouch. The the grander scheme of things, yes Ivar's is a head of the venerable Long John's by quite a margin. All I could remember of Long John's, though good, was its greasiness. None of that can be said at Ivar's as far as I can remember. read more

Her order came out perfect, crisp and juicy. Mine did as well, however, the amount was incorrect. It was 3 provided instead of 5. HOWEVER. Without asking they did make a new batch of 5 without cost. I like Ivar's, I really do but what I witnessed recently made me grossed out. The person taking orders had gloves on and was touching the money and things at the counter but then, checked an order with the same gloves on. He lifted the "lid" off and even picked up some of the fish to inspect or look at it and then put it back with the rest of the order. The person cooking also had gloves on which is good but then, that employee went and picked up dirty dishes from a table, placed them on a counter and went back to cooking without changing gloves. After that, that same employee came back out to the dining area, gloves still on and then moved their hair around with hands in same gloves. Never saw either employee change gloves. The curly haired kid with glasses was an awesome employee. He absolutely went above and beyond to help us decide what we wanted since it was our first visit. We went with the Cajun fish and chips, the clams, a Cesar salad and a cup of chowder. You absolutely don't taste the fish in the fish or the chowder and it's amazing. I've had a lot of fishy tasting food, but this was not the case. Everything was just perfect. We are long time fans of Ivars but have never had a good experience with this location. We typically do pick up or Door Dash and this is our closest location. Every time, there are issues- the tarter is missing, or there's no crackers for the chowder, no spoon for the chowder, drink only filled up halfway, etc. Seems to be just really carelessly thrown together. After seeing mostly positive reviews, I was excited to try Ivars in Bothell but I left feeling cheated. My takeout order included white clam chowder, 3 piece halibut fish and chips, and the grilled salmon. I wasn't expecting a Michelin star experience but the portion size of the halibut and chips was extremely disappointing with very small and thin pieces of fish. They advertised it as 3 piece but as you can see I'm my photo the 3rd piece was more like a nugget, smaller than my thumb to give you perspective. The halibut was also quite dry, likely due to it being so thin. The chowder was virtually all liquid with almost zero clams, potatoes, etc that would you expect in a chowder. The salmon was extremely dry and fishy, and did not seem very fresh. Overall a very disappointing experience considering the generally positive reviews I saw on Yelp. read more

Used to love this location... it was our fave... recently we have had issues with every order.... we always order the full boat which comes with 10 pieces of fish (it's for 3 people) our last 2 visits the full boat only came with 9 pieces. I get it, it's only 1 piece of fish but this has happened 2 times in a row now and do u know what a 2 piece fish and chips costs? We also find that the oil that the fries is cooked in is old. It tastes like old oil. It's not always like this but at least half the time. I suggest u check your Togo orders before u leave as missing items seem to be a trend here. I was not given tarter sauce 2 times after asking for no ketchup but extra extra tarter. The last time I went (which will be my last time ever) I was missing a item I actually paid for and was told I could drive back to get it.
