For being at such a prime location and having such a hype to it, I was surprised how affordable the food was! Most meals around $10 for fish and chips, we ordered the salmon and loved it! Made quickly, very hot and fresh, all condiments included, packed up well to go. They really have an excellent staff that knows how to handle the crowds well. Plenty of seating, both inside and out, every part of our meal was delicious, the fish, fries, loved the tarter sauce and flavored vinegar. I get why they have been around and are so successful, a must while in Seattle. read more

I live right down Alaskan Way from Ivar's fish bar and have to say they do a really nice job. On cold, rainy winter days nothing beats picking up a tanker of their famous clam chowder and a basket of their Wild Alaska Pollock fish and chips to keep you warm on the inside and a give you a smile on the outside. As a "local", I can say Ivar's is about as authentic as Seattle seafood gets. read more

TBH, Long John Silvers is better. I haven't eaten there in over 10 years. I just needed to add some comparison. Do not come here expecting to have a "memorable" fish n' chips experience. The only memory you'll have is how disappointed you'll be. Didn't bother to finish it. The white chowder was very tasty. Maybe that's their signature item. I actually broke off pieces of the fish and put it in the chowder! It has absolutely no flavor! Someone tell me when has "fish n chips" not been beer battered. After seeing this establishment all over the PNW, I expected more. read more

Came here for the clam chowder and fish and chips! Clam chowder is creamy goodness and has a great clam flavor. For the fish and chips I ordered half cod and salmon. The must order is the cod and salmon definitely is worth getting too and don't forget the tarter sauce. Service was perfect and thanks for the complimentary water. read more

I ordered the fish and chips plus a tanker of the white clam chowder. It was delicious and affordable! I ordered from Ubereats to my hotel and everything was still hot despite the delivery being late. Seafood in Seattle can be expensive and you're not always guaranteed that it will be good but you can count on this place for consistent quality. My husband is a native Seattleite and generally does not like seafood and Ivar's is the only place he will go! read more

Visited Ivar's fish bar on Friday night at around 7:00pm. We waited about 10 minutes in line until we got to the counter to order. (Considering this was a Friday night the wait wasn't bad at all). We order the Halibut fish & chips and the clam chowder. They have a table section near the counter and we were pleasantly surprised to find out that this section is heated!! I would say the clam chowder was good and I would highly recommend it! We also got the halibut fish and chips and the serving tended to be on the small side for these and they were okay. read more

We tried this place today and we were quickly led to a table on the patio. We really enjoyed the calm of the spot and our time with the view. Our waiter was very attentive and explained the dunguess crab. I ordered the surf and turf and the crab literally melted in my mouth with every bite. The steak was cooked perfectly and the asparagus was on point. My partner said they had the best fish and chips of our stay in Seattle. We both enjoyed our meal. read more

Social Distancing Edition Review So if you are determined to get out of the house, and social distance yourself from your WFH desk, or you home... and your desire is to get something delicious that warms your heart, on these cold clear days... lo and behold, you should drive down here asap. Traffic, is basically non-existent, and parking is plentiful. Remember it's a walk up counter, so head to the counter, keeping your 6ft distance from the person/people/non-existant crowds next to you, and order something special. I think you should consider Cod fish and chips, and perhaps a healthy bowl of Clam Chowder. I recommend the Clam Chowder for many reasons: (1) it's darn delicious (2) it's creamy savory heart warming love in a bowl (3) bypass the tartar sauce, and dip your fish and chips into this lovely bowl of goodness, and (4) no shame when you are licking your spoon with bits and pieces that have broken off or fallen off your fish and chips. Is this the perfect meal during a social distancing.. yes, actually it is. You may prefer a dash of salt, if your tastes head that way, but I see it as perfectly balanced. Go eat, go local, wash your hands. read more

It's always nice to be able to share your un-eaten fries with non-aggressive seagulls. It's the perfect environment for instagram worthy mishaps or viral videos. On to the review! We decided to eat outside and no in the restaurant, so this review is strictly for the patio eats. The line may, at times, look long and daunting, but they have this down to a science. The line moves very efficiently, people don't expect it. Look at the menu billboard, get in line, call the order, get the ticket, get the food, get the condiments and try to find a seat outside. If it's raining (which it is most of the time) c'mon it's Seattle, then try to grab seats under the canopy. Otherwise you're stuck along the side of the building with a really close ocean view and seagulls patiently glaring at you to give them food. My wife and I shared a Northwest Chowder with a creamy tomato base, fried mussels and a fish and chips with combo with fresh cut french fries. Portions are definitely on the bigger end. Plus, being outside with the salty sea air smell made it all the better. Ivar's definitely covered my cravings for fresh seafood. Parking is pretty bad to get here, but mainly because it's close to downtown and parking in general isn't the greatest. Come check it out when you have a chance. read more

Who would think you can find quality cheap-eats like this by the pier. Located at Pier 54, there are limited parking spaces in front of Ivar's Acres of Clams. Menu is small, so it is perfect for those who fears making decisions. Most people come here for their Fish & Chips. There are 3 choices of fish - Cod, Salmon or Halibut. I personally like the Cod because (1) cheaper and (2) softer. Line up toward the left side of the counter and place your order in the following order: (1) Seafood Order first (2) Chowder, Drinks, Sides next (3) Pay the Cashier -- to the right side (4) Patiently wait for your order to come fresh off the fryer If you want fancy dining, you can go to the Ivar's restaurant next door, but I sincerely enjoyed sitting in the covered area overlooking the ocean, and seeing children feed those noisy seagulls by the deck. Awesome spot with reasonable pricing food. Wouldn't say they are the best, but I am not complaining when I am getting this huge order of food for roughly $20. read more

Before the pandemic, my Director of Sales & I went to grab lunch at Ivars. I love salmon so I had to go w/ their salmon fish 'n chips. Eating this inside their covered area on a nice sunny day was the best way to enjoy this meal. The salmon tasted great & was an overall a great lunch. My cousin recommended this spot and it's a typical tourist spot. The food was good but I had higher expectations. The Alaskan smoked salmon chowder was one of my favorites. I loved the little smoked salmon bits in it, it's something I've never had before. The halibut and chips was dry and over cooked. In my opinion, it wasn't worth the price. I've been going to Ivar's for years and have always been a fan. However, I was there a few days ago and ordered the four piece cod fish and chips and the salmon chowder. Unfortunately the fish was not fried at the proper temperature and was extremely oily. This fish was sitting over the fries which made them extremely oily and soggy. Extremely disappointing for the $23.00 price. Had the fish been cooked at the proper temperature, it would have been great. I did taste extremely fresh. Chowder was great as always. read more

The location has a nice view and the counter has a old diner feel to it. As you wait in line there may be some seagulls flying by and it definitely made me question about sitting outdoor. The service was not optimal. I watched as a argument between an employee and another customer. The employee kept shouting three pieces as the customer shouted back which three pieces. Then again it is a pandemic. I tried to ask questions about the types of fish they had and the employee was very curt just saying nope that's different. I ended up with just the regular cod with Cajun seasoning. The Cajun seasoning was delicious and really brought a burst of flavor to my fish. The fish itself was tiny. The fries were average fries. I also got clam chowder which tasted nice and creamy but really didn't leave me craving more. Overall, it was a mediocre experience and the price was average. read more

Seagulls are eaters. Decided to stop at Ivars for lunch. The food is great-hot and fresh. Just your typical fish and chips place. The chowder was awesome, too! Didn't get a picture of my food because I scruffed it down pretty fast. The fried cod looked small, but was perfectly filling and tasted great. They have a nice area for you to sit next to the water. Plenty of seagulls around but read the rest of my review as to why. They also have indoor seating just in case of weather or if you don't want to be out by the birds. After his neighbor on Pier 56 put up a sign reading "Don't Feed Sea Gulls, Health Regulation" in 1971, Ivar Haglund (the owner of Ivars)responded with his own sign encouraging customers to feed the seagulls. Learned a lot about the owner, Ivar, who was a folk singer and restaurant entrepreneur. He was also the "flounder" of the Seagull Society of Seattle. read more

I am from the East Coast so I definitely wanted to try their Clam Chowder with white clams. They opened at 10AM I believe on Sunday. It is a good 20 minute walk from Pike Place Center as they are on the coast. They have a dining area but watch out for seagulls and birds. Their bread bowl clam chowder was really good, it was thick and had a good amount of clams that did not taste like the sea. It had a bacon flavor taste in the chowder which made me love it even more. Feeling aaaaaall the boardwalk vibes with some excellent cod fish & chips from this iconic eatery right on Pier 54 on a GORGEOUS blue sky day in Seattle! It's so strange to see the city so quiet, but it made for a unique experience to enjoy a peaceful lunch by the waterfront. It kinda felt like we were in a bubble. We got a our fish Cajun style, so the exterior had a mild heat to it. The fish was super moist, the fries were perfectly crispy and the tartar sauce really set everything off! This is a local area chain in the Seattle area famous for their chowder. Their fried fish batter was not my preferred style and I definitely had better fried fish to my tastes in the Seattle area than what I was served here. Their Wild Alaskan Chowder was alright but really could have benefited from more seasoning along with being light on the seafood. It really wasn't the best value and there are really quite a few better options in the area as this seems to be more of a tourist trap. read more

We were told this was the spot to go for fried fish. We found out ourselves it really wasn't the fish that was that good but their CLAM CHOWDER. If you come stop by, you should try their Clam Chowder. One of the tastiest I've had. For their fried fish, we preferred the Cod and Halibut over the Salmon since the Salmon didn't exactly taste that right with the breading. I've heard Bill Gates stopped by here and surprised he did. Wasn't a top choice for me besides their chowder, get the chowder!! read more

Went to Ivar's fish bar on 2 separate visits and its great! I have yet to try the full service restaurant next door but this review will be covering the bar outdoors. The people in the front get orders out fast and are very helpful in answering any questions you might have. First visit, I got the 4 piece Cajun Cod and the second visit, I got the 4 piece Alaskan Salmon. Both visits I also had the cup of white clam chowder. Nothing too much to say about fish and chips. They are fish and chips. A comfort food. And Ivar's does a damn good job at it. I definitely recommend the Cajun Cod, very delicious! The white clam chowder that they have is also great and is always satisfying to dig in after finishing the fish and chips. They got 2 dining areas, one little shack a couple steps away from the counter, and another one that is outdoor right on the pier where you can feed the birds. Some small stray birds make their way into the indoor area and the signs recommend you not to feed them but they don't harass you for your food and they provide some nice ambience with their chirps. The outdoor dining area has some seagulls fly in that you can throw some fries to and watch them and its very fun! Will definitely return to the bar whenever I am in the area and also hope to try the Acres of Clams restaurant next door! read more

Everything here was good and, even though seating inside is limited, they had a few outdoor tables which helped. We at outside and another group joined us and we made friends with them. Bonus. I didn't really expect this to blow me away but this was such a refreshing dish that balanced out the fried dishes we got. It used viet flavors that you may typically find in a banh mi which made it refreshing and had great texture from all the different fresh ingredients and fried garlic. I also loved how the fish came in patty form mixed with pork, it was flavorful and moist. We took my mother - a person who lives with disabilities and requires a mobility scooter. The staff went out of their way to help her feel comfortable and well taken care of. In my book - the staff of Duke's of south Lake Union are a solid 5 stars rating. And, the food is a 3'ish rating. Put together- it's a place that is worth visiting if for nothing else than the amazing staff. Oh, and the view on Lake Union is also really great, especially if you can grab a table near one of the patio heaters.
