Itality immediately stood out when I began doing research before my trip to Albuquerque. They describe their cuisine as whole plant-based Pueblo food. It includes some items I'd never tried before such as atole (blue corn porridge) and Pueblo-style enchiladas as well as some things more familiar to me like their beans/greens bowl (Fiesta Bowl). I follow a whole foods/plant-based diet and was eager to try nearly every single item on the menu (except for a few deep-fried items), so I actually made 3(!!) trips here during my three-day stay in Albuquerque, and I still didn't even try everything I wanted to. My favorite item was the Feast Bowl, which comes with the bean of the day (e.g. chickpeas or pinto beans), sautéed kale, fresh avocado, and quinoa. It is a smallish portion (good for me because I wanted to try multiple things) and really tasty. A little on the salty side. I ordered this multiple times and would add it to any meal. My next most favorite item was the lentil and green chile soup, which was the "daily kyu-nah" (daily stew) all three days that we went. It was sooo hearty and comforting and delicious, with potato chunks and other veggies and amazing flavor. The next shoutout goes to the tamales, filled with black beans and veggies. Delicious enough for me to order repeatedly. I also loved the atole, a warm and lightly sweetened porridge made from blue corn. A bit reminiscent of cream of wheat. I had a hard time deciding between this and the blue corn waffles which also looked fantastic. I love that they serve breakfast all day. The green omega smoothie was tasty, and I appreciated that it came in a small or large size. The only dish I didn't particularly enjoy was the Pueblo-style enchiladas. It is a single enormous thick whole wheat wrap folded up with kale and zucchini inside. The wrap was infused with red chile powder, and it was extremely salty and rather dry, although the veggie filling was nice. Some of my friends liked this dish, but it wasn't for me. Overall, I loved this restaurant and could have eaten every meal of my trip there. Next time I come to Albuquerque, I'll probably try to stay within walking distance of Itality so it's even easier to go over and over. (Being in the same parking lot as La Montañita Food Co-op was just icing on the cake!) read more

No one ever told me that I needed fry bread in my life! Itality honors the Rasta philosophy (natural, less processed) and I appreciate a vegan meal that is more bean and veggie-focused than fake meats and ultra processed commercial brand cheeses. Hey, that allows for me to eat the fry bread with a little less guilt, OK? I kind of want to eat it with everything. Like my dining partner had a veggie burger in fry bread rather than a boring roll! Genius. I had the tamale platter. I haven't had a tamale in ages, they are rarely a vegan option, so this was a real treat and they are delicious here. It's smothered it in green chile sauce and comes with a side of that damn fry bread. I added a side of guac to make it even more extra. Service is so friendly and there are tables so you can eat in, though take out is also a good option and if I lived in this town, I'd be taking out weekly, no doubt. read more

Owned by Hamas Pueblo woman, delicious dishes are introduced to the public using formula of success cultivated over generations of time here in the southwest. You have to try the Hamus enchiladas it's a gooey mass of deliciousness. You gotta try the fried bread. It's the best fried bread in the Rio Grande sector. This is a tiny little vegan place near the Indian cultural center in Albuquerque. I am a bona fide carnivore, so I had to keep an open mind on coming here. The place is tiny with only a few tables lining the walls, but it does have several tables outside. You ordered the counter and they will bring the food to your table. There's not much to the decor, but it's nice enough with some live plants. We ordered the Blue Corn Amaranth Waffles with berry compote, the Avocado Zorah Bayla Toast, and the Italian NDN Taco. It's so rare to find a vegan place that satisfies every person in my little family, especially now that we have a kiddo. This was AMAZING! We got the special, which was an Indian Taco made with potato's, kale, beans, red chile, and squash on fry bread. OUT OF THIS WORLD GOOD! I've been to Itality a few times and really appreciate that their food is original. I like that they don't try to imitate meat or cheese textures, but instead create their own dishes that genuinely taste good. Today I ordered the frybread burger, which came with a generous portion of fries. Unfortunately, the fries were soft and lacked seasoning. On a previous visit, I had the Indian taco, but the sauce portion was very skimpy. Both experiences made it difficult to fully enjoy the meal. I didn't mention the sauce issue last time, but I did bring up the fries today. I hope they can pay more attention to consistency and seasoning, because the concept and flavors have a lot of potential. The first time I went here, I got the enchilada plate and didn't like it at all, as it was very dry and not very flavorful, same with the corn bread, even though the ingredients and place were up my alley- vegan, healthier, and the chance to support an indigenous owned place. This time, I loved my fry bread topped with black beans, veggies, and an amazing creamy garlic sauce so much. The frybread was so fresh and tasty and not oily like they usually are- it really did seem healthier. It is a tiny place, but nice light ambience. Staff have been nice. I AM STUFFED! This food was absolutely delicious and I would eat more but there is no room in my tummy. This is small venue with outdoor seating and very limited indoor seating. You go in and read the menu on the wall and then place your order. They bring the food to your table. When I tell you that the seasoning on the tamale was Everything!? It was everything! I ate the tamale first to save the waffle for a dessert. It did not need the syrup at all. I still have over half the waffle to take with me. It was so so delicious. I will preface my review by saying before I walked in, I thought it was going to be vegan Italian food. So I guess I was expecting pasta dishes, and that kind of stuff. This is a really cute, casual, counter service restaurant, that offers New Mexican and Pueblo style foods. I wasn't really sure what to get, so I got a feast bowl. Visited this place for the first time back in September and had a lovely experience. I'm not so sure Arrived about 5:30pm for an early dinner. The only item that they were out of was the waffles. They serve breakfast all day but we were focused on dinner type food. For a group of 4 we got one large nachos to share. My partner and I split an Ital NDN Taco and a Whole Enchilada. Our companions, with smaller appetites, got the daily stew (bean based) and a one-tamale plate. Turned out to be a ton of food! It was all really yummy and we did bring home the leftover to turn into a future breakfast. Very fun to get an indian taco at a vegan spot. The chile was flavorful but not very spicy. We also got the tea, both black and herbal. They were fine but nothing to write home about. There are not a lot of tables, a few inside and a few outside, but we were happy with our outdoor seating arrangement. Although it faces a parking lot, it wasn't too busy and it was nice to not be alongside a road. The service was great. One person taking orders who was very friendly and able to answer all our questions, who was also the person that brought our food to us outside. Overall we'd happily return again and again. The main limiting factor for me is the hours - they are open 10-5 Weds-Sun, so if you want dinner it's gotta be pretty early! read more

I was so happy to hear there's a vegan place opening up because they are few and far between, but honestly I was pretty disappointed. We order the sacred salad, which was overpriced in my opinion, and pretty lackluster. There wasn't much to it at all, and the falafel was too mushy. We also got the taco, and it was just fried dough with beans on top and a tiny amount of lettuce, tomato, and avocado. There wasn't much flavor at all. The beans were meh. This is random but a side note, the name of this restaurant is kind of confusing. For some reason we thought it was going to be Italian vegan food. It was mostly salads and New Mexican food. I have eaten at Itality a handful of times, as I come to Albuquerque and Santa Fe, New Mexico periodically for work. Whenever possible, I treat myself to Itality; I have tried several dishes and have been completely satisfied with everything I have ordered thus far. Today, I will focus on the Hey Miss Enchiladas. OMG, these were so delicious and rival the "real thing" in almost every way. I highly recommend Itality and the Hey Miss Enchiladas to every and anyone, vegans and non-vegans alike. But I first ate there when they first opened it lacked a lot, but they have really stepped up 10 notches and it is an amazing place to get healthy food. Everything is Matt from scratch, vegan you can get something decadent like nachos (they make their own cheese sauce with pumpkin!) or The Indian taco or you can stick to something more basic and super balancing like the feast bowl, which is quinoa, the bean of the day with red chili, and it comes with kale and avocado. We ordered a feast bowl. My wife has chronic acid reflux and the kale and beans are flavored with red chili we called and asked if it could remade without chili. We were told no you will have to pay for another one. They said you should have told us. I said when you asked if wanted to add chili to the bowl I said no because my wife has acid reflux. We've been twice now, and I have to say that this hits the spot like nothing else in town. It's so thoughtful with ingredients and menu items - everything we've ordered is delicious as well as aesthetically stunning. The freshly pressed juice of the day (beet + ginger) made the top of my head tingle . The atole, NDN Pueblo Taco, and the "Ras Special" (not on menu) with tofu scramble, papitas, zucchini, kale, and black beans - almost makes you want to cry. All of the staff is so kind and accommodating, I also appreciated that it was a kid friendly environment. I can't wait to see this place grow and evolve in the upcoming years.
