We heard about Itacate from a friend of ours and we had to stop by for lunch - especially when we learned it's only 7 min away. We spoke with David and learned about their food and how much love they put in each dish. They have only been opened for 2 years. Service is friendly and the restaurant is very clean and modern. The food was phenomenal and Itacate is added to our list now. For starters, the fresada was delicious. It is a strawberry lemonade. I also ordered a Mango version to go. Very refreshing. We started off with the Queso Fundido with chorizo. It was hot and the cheese was just so good and stretchy. Such a nice find - we don't see it on menus in Colorado so must try. We ordered several tacos - birria, cochinita, shrimp, and fish. Every taco was delicious and full of flavor on its own. The rice and beans were also very well made. Each bite just bursts in flavor. David was kind enough to also let us try the Pambazo which is kind of like a torta but they grill it with the sauce on the outside. And if you put an egg in it, it can be fantastic breakfast sandwich. For dessert, we ordered the deditios con nieve which is funnel fries with sauce and coconut ice cream. It's deconstructed funnel cake essentially which my bf enjoyed because he can eat just the fries and ice cream. All in all, 10/10 experience. We will def be back read more

we were in the area with not a lot of time and decided to try this place for a quick bite. It is fantastic! We both had a couple of tacos which were all delicious: 2 chicken, 1 shrimp and 1 fish. All of them were GF except the fish, due to the fish being breaded. The tortillas are deep fried which help them to hold together perfectly. The shrimp and chicken were both perfectly cooked and really flavorful. the cheese in all of them was delicious and gooey. They have a pretty big menu and we saw lots of delicious looking dishes floating by. Lots of vegetarian options too. (including potato tacos of which we ordered 2 to go and they were very well received). The service was great and very friendly. We will be back. Yum. Amazing! Perfection! Located in a strip mall in Northglenn. It's a small little shop, but has several tables and a bar that can seat 8. It's not just good, it's terrific. Shrimp tacos are a must to order here. I don't know how they do it, but the tacos are just indescribably good. Carna asada tacos are also a great choice that pair well with the chips and salsa--homemade of course. I didn't order my own drink, but had a taste of my friend's. I can attest to the statement that yes, the drinks are good and very well concocted. Our server was new and was very sweet and attentive. Will 100% go back for another hit of great food! read more

Yummy food, nice service, cool atmosphere- well definitely visit again next time we're up north. I had a jicama aguas frescas. It was perfect- not too sweet and extremely refreshing. My husband had a beer (he was going to order a large but noticed that the small is cheaper if you're planning to get 2 or more). We split the chicken fajitas. Omg the best tacos i swear I've ever had. Got a steak and a shrimp and both were AMAZING. Husband got steak quesadillas. To die for.... Mom had chicken enchiladas. She was not a fan. Chicken was dry. Located in a strip mall off 104th Ave, this place is easy to miss. A bright neon sign, "Canta y No Llores," lets you know you will be taken care of. The Mi Viejo Margarita was perfect. You can alter the sweetness to your preference, and it is made to order with blanco tequila, Grand Marnier, and freshly squeezed lime. The salsa with the chips is full of flavor and the perfect consistency to adorn your chips. Tacos--yum! I tried the birria and the fish taco. Both were excellent with amazing spices. Still love the decor, and the service was very friendly and on top of it today during a weekday lunch! They even split the burrito on two plates so we could easily share it. We got the cochi-burrito. It was a huge burrito filled with cochinital pibil, similar to the tacos we had last time. Be warned, it is spicy! So spicy it made my nose run, but you could still taste all the seasonings, including something that tasted a little like bbq. It was served with a green creamy salsa and a chipotle creamy salsa- both excellent. This is not the cheapest place in the area, but it is the most delicious by far. The decor is nice when you walk in and there's a lot of seating in a small space, but it still didn't feel crowded. Our waitress was really nice. They had a pretty good selection for the menu. I got the Alambres and it was tasty. My friend got the chicken fajitas. They actually seem like the same dish except for different meat. But both were good as she let me try hers. Itacate is a Central Mexican restaurant that makes some delicious food. It started with some interesting salsa and chips. The salsa had a unique and just a bit spicy flavor with a great taste that had me going back for more and more. I ordered the flank steak (arrachera plate) and it came with all the sides. The steak was very tasty although could have been just a bit more tinder. The sides were amazing. This was the worst Mexican food experience I have had in Colorado. We ordered the steak burrito, chicken fajitas, and chicken flautas and all were disappointing. The steak burrito was greasy and completely bland. The chicken fajitas came with white rice and refried beans, but the chicken had absolutely no seasoning or flavor which is almost impressive for Mexican food. The rice was plain white, stale, and mixed with sad looking carrots and peas. The beans were clearly undercooked; you could tell and taste they were blended before being fully cooked. The chicken flautas were also greasy and flavorless. Even the green and red salsas lacked seasoning. The only thing remotely decent was the chips and salsa served at the start. We paid over $65 for a lunch that was barely one quarter eaten. When we told our server, he offered to exchange the food, but at that point, everything had been so flavorless that we declined. You would expect at least a small discount, but none was offered. Overall, this place is far from authentic Mexican food. I truly don't understand how this location has a 4.8 star rating. If you are looking for overpriced, greasy, and flavorless food, this might be the spot for you otherwise, stay away. read more

Don't let the shopping center location fool you--Itacate Mexican Food is an absolute gem. We stopped in while up in Northglenn and were blown away by the quality, flavor, and service. From the moment we walked in, the staff was welcoming and attentive. We were seated right away, given fresh chips and flavorful salsa (mild heat, lots of flavor), and had drinks on the table within minutes. Our server was incredibly helpful and gave great recommendations. We started with the corn ribs and a couple of a la carte tacos--the Potato and the Bean. Both were delicious, but the potato taco was phenomenal, especially with the green salsa it's served with. My husband ordered a torta and subbed in nopales, adding a chile toreado on the side. We asked for their spiciest salsa, and our server brought us a side of habanero salsa--our favorite of them all. The lime wedges served with everything were the perfect finishing touch--they brightened up the tacos, torta, and corn ribs alike. We loved the potato taco so much I ordered a second one! Overall: 10/10. The food was packed with flavor, the service was fast and friendly, and prices were fair for the quality. Wow wow wow! I was not expecting such an incredible meal up in Northglenn (though I don't frequent Northglenn so I'm sure there are lots of hidden gems I'm unaware of). We decided to try Itacate based on Yelp reviews and I've been craving this place ever since. Let's start with the Birria Tacos. I don't think I've had better Birria Tacos anywhere and I have tried a lot of them because they're my fav. And I was pleasantly surprised by the refried beans too! The entire dish was packed full of flavor. I'm salivating just writing this review. The service is outstanding as well. We were warmly greeted and treated like family from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. The restaurant isn't anything fancy but it was clean and looked like it could accommodate some larger parties (I recommend calling ahead if you have a party larger than 8 though because they'll have to push some tables together for you). It's also in a strip mall but all of the hidden gems are. Such a pleasantly delicious experience. I will absolutely make the drive from Lakewood to Northglenn for this food and service. read more

Yay, finally good Mexican food in Northglenn Colorado!! Coming from southern California I'm spoiled when it comes to Mexican & so far I've been pretty disappointed, until now... This place could hold it's own in San Diego & that's saying something. Everything I tried was really good, their free chips and salsa (so good), their taco's (fantastic), their beans & rice- all great- really great!! I've spent some time in Cancun & the food here most resembles the food I had there. The carne asada, the shrimp, the birria, the tibil was all super tasty. The service was great they are really nice and check on you & talk with you. The ambiance is nice, it's a new Mexican restaurant, decorated nicely, mid size. We got it, we tried it, let's rate it 1-10. I cannot believe this hidden gem is right down the road from us and we've never been. When I tell you everything was delicious, I mean EVERYTHING was delicious. We had the birria tacos, birria flautas, enfrijoladas, suizas enchiladas, and queso and it was some of the best food we've had since moving to Colorado. Not just best Mexican food, but best food in general. The ingredients tasted so fresh and every item on the menu sounded carefully curated like they really put time and thought into each meal. Where to begin? I lived in Los Angeles for three years and I've also traveled to Mexico and so finding authentic Mexican food here in Denver is really really hard to come by. Every single time that we come here which is at least once or twice a month for the last year, the ambience and service has been amazing. Everything we've had on the menu has been utterly delicious. And we now know the owner, Jessica and her husband on a first name basis. The high ratings caught my eye, so I gave them a try. The menu had so many dishes I had not seen before. I am now working my way through the menu as everything I've tried has been so good. They say it is authentic from different regions of Mexico. The service is extremely polite and friendly, so the whole dining experience is fantastic. The pricing is very reasonable. The biggest issue - they are a hidden gem, tucked away in a strip mall, so you have to wander past some other less than impressive businesses to get to them.
