After a disappointing experience at another spot nearby, we decided to finally try El Azteca -- and honestly, this is now our go-to. We both ordered the quesabirrias and they were incredible. Flavorful, well-seasoned, everything you want from a quesabirria done right. I also had the menudo which was exactly what it should be -- rich, authentic, no shortcuts. And the aguas frescas are genuinely delicious, not the watered-down sugary versions you get a lot of places. The staff is always sweet -- every single time we come in. You can tell this place is a labor of love and they actually care about the experience you have. Fair warning -- it's a small place and it is always packed, whether people are grabbing a table or picking up food to go. That should tell you everything you need to know. If you like a good breakfast burrito, stop here! First off they are huge and packed with fixings. They have good chili. Im a fan of their smothered fries too. I need to explore more of the menu because they do a variety of dishes. There is always people in there dining in and the food looks great. It is a smaller restaurant with a few tables to sit, but it's a great place to order to go, which is what I usually opt for. If you're in the area you should stop in! read more

Honestly, growing up in a Mexican household, this food taste like a white person made it. There is no seasoning for no taste. The chili is watered down so bad that the chili can't even give the food flavor. Which usually most Mexican restaurants the chili saves the food but here you're basically adding water to your food. Definitely needs to get a new chef because I'd say about a year or two ago it tasted way better. Maybe it's the economy and i understand trying to make ends meet but the least you could do is add some chicken bouillon or something because the food taste like nothing. Also the service is so rude I think there's only one woman there who is nice, and I wish she was the one working the counter most times. This place is pretty good. I stopped by for lunch with some friends. I grabbed the Asada Fries and was really happy with my choice. The chili is not spicy at all but has good flavor, the fries were not overly crispy but weren't soggy either and the asada was really good. Always delicious. I go here all the time! The service is fast and always super friendly! They are always so kind and helpful! The dining area is simple. Always clean but not really restaurant style. There are seats, but it feels more like a place to sit and wait for Togo food, but you are more than welcome to eat in. Tonight I ordered chicken nachos and veggies fajitas. The nachos come with a generous portion of chicken on a nice bed of chips. It comes with beans, Pico, sour cream and guacamole and some shredded cheese. I would order with extra cheese if I were you! The fajitas are delicious! Very flavorful and the vegetables were cooked delightfully. Not to soft not to hard. Very well seasoned! The rice is usually bland but the beans are good. It's a decent portion. I've had bigger at some places and smaller at others. Their beans are good. By default it comes with one flour tortilla. Idk if they offer corn tortillas instead I have never tried. Everything I have had here has always been good! 9/10 definitely recommended read more

WORST burrito I've ever had. I got the jumbo burrito worst decision I've ever made. After a long day of skiing and barely eating I decided to stop for food. I would've rather driven an hour and a half to Denver and gotten a hot dog from a street vendor. read more

The woman working the counter is rude. The food is good except the bad customer service. I went in and had a enchilada and asked for a water cup. The fountain machine with the water tastes bad and tasted like soda. I added a small amount of juice to offset the flavor. The lady brings my food and proceeds to shame and embarrass a customer about the use of the cup. I told her about the water and she walks over to the pop machine and says it's good and I'm ok today but next time order a drink. Her attitude was offensive and treated a customer like a liar. I will never go back to this restaurant for how this woman made a customer feel. Don't waste your time here there is better service elsewhere. The Customer Service here is outstanding! I ordered the smothered Chicken Tortas and the hostess very politely recommended I put the green chili on the side so the crispy tortilla didn't get soggy, but emphasized it was up to me. I thought it was a good plan, so I did it. I ordered a side or re-fried beans and my wife ordered her meal with a side of rice. The cooks in the back put the sides on the same plate, which was fine for us but the hostess insisted on making it right and offered to have separate plates. This ended up working out really well, actually. The food was good but it was a little plain, meaning it could have a little more flavor. However it was not greasy--at least the entrees we got--and the portions were really good. The green chili was pretty good though. We had a great experience. We brought our kids and the hostess was really good with our 3 year old. I'll definitely recommend this pace. Great find! read more

Finally found what I was looking for [in a burrito]. You would think tasty burritos are plenty, but not from my searching in the area. My asks - good thin flour tortilla, quality ingredients (beef, pico, guac, potatoes, chz) and NOT smothered. I appreciate the smothered culture in this state but i like eating my burrito w my hands. I had the thornton burrito (pretty much a california burrito with sour cream added) and was pleased with what it turned out to be - big and tasty. They have good hard shell shredded beef tacos too imo (pretty sure they fry their own shells too). Breakfast burrito is pretty good too! Red sauce actually has a kick and green sauce is pretty tasty too. Whenever i want a to go burrito, im coming here! read more

Been coming to this place for years & sorry to say I won't be coming back. Probably switching to Las Palmas Mercedes on Irma or El Taqueria down on 128th. Prices are ridicules for the quality food you get. 15$ for a combination with 2 items, a chicken taco & cheese enchilada with rice & beans! 9.88 for a single cheese quesadilla. Just paid 40$ for 2 plates & a quesadilla to go . For comparison a combination at Las Palmas down the street has the same combination but also includes a bean burrito so 3 items for 13.50$. My second combination was taquitos & I asked for guacamole on the side & they forgot it. On my first combo the cheese to the enchilada wasn't even melted. It's that way consistently. Not quite sure why I kept going back, It's right in the neighborhood so it's pretty close. I'm signed up for the loyalty program which gives you 1 point every 1$ you spend. Have a total of 350 points & all they offer is a free Breakfast burrito . Really, that's like the only option to redeem haha! It's obvious these people are over charging for mediocre Mexican food. "Chill, cheese & beans" is really what it comes down to with the type of Mexican food served here. It's not hard to make that taste good.. the Red salsa is about the only thing nowadays that I can say I went for but you can find that elsewhere. I'm done supporting businesses that could care less about their product & customers especially with how tight things have become. There's plenty of other places that deserve my business. read more

This place is one of the few places that I would consider a hole-in-the-wall restaurant and say I liked it. The green chili is on point. Poor service. Poor food quality. Door Dasher didn't pick up half our order. The food we did receive was luke-warm at best. When I called the restaurant to tell them, they said it wasn't their issue. When I asked to have the meal re-made and I would come pick it up to ensure we received a hot meal, they refused. They said "take it up with Door Dash". Then, when Door Dash customer service called them to confirm, they denied the refund. I threw $60 in the trash because this business obviously doesn't care about its customers. read more

Recently, I've been loitering around Thornton, trying to pass for a minor league burrito junkie.. I found El Azteca on Yelp, and decided to give it a shot. I ordered a breakfast burrito with sausage, potato, egg, and cheese, with a side of refried beans. The friendly cashier/server was attentive and expedient, and supplied medium and hot sauce bottles at the table. The red hot sauce was definitely hot. I favored the milder green sauce. Burrito size was huge, but I finished it off. The tortilla was perfectly soft, and strong enough to hold in the contents throughout my meal, with nary a single tear. The beans were tasty as well. At $3.75, the breakfast burrito is a bargain. I plan to return and try other items on the menu. I highly recommend El Azteca for a delicious breakfast burrito at a great price. read more

We bought the bean& cheese burritos along with their house-made green and red sauce for to-go. AMAZING. Their refried beans in the burritos are rich, creamy, and flavorful which made a surprisingly satisfying meal. Highly recommend! Also got an order of churros which also exceeded my expectations. Two burritos plus an order of churros costed less than $17. Next time you stop by, get the bean&cheese burritos and churros for dessert! I've only had the pleasure of dining at El Azteca once. It's located off of I-70 in a small mountain town in Colorado. The margaritas were really good! This was by far the worse Mexican food I have ever had. I ordered 3 chicken enchiladas. The sauce tasted like canned sauce with no flavor except tomato. The chicken inside was clearly boiled chicken that was shredded. No salt, pepper, seasoning in general on the chicken. It was so dry and plain I gave most of the chicken to my cat and dog (why it looks a mess in the picture). They also filled the inside of the enchiladas with giant chunks of green chilies that were not cooked, old onions, and large chunks of raw tomato. I also got a side of guacamole. It was smashed avocados. That's all. No seasoning, no jalapeño, no tomato, no onion. Just watery avocado. I added my own garlic powder and pepper to it to help. DO NOT BE TEMPTED TO GO THERE. I'm sorry, but I'm not a connoisseur when it comes to Mexican food. I just go by the hot sauce, it was as spicy as they said it would be and I give a thumbs up. I ordered the Beef Taco, Smothered Bean Burrito, and Enchilada plate, my friend ordered the Carne Asada Green Chili Smothered burrito. The service was friendly, they have a lot of varieties to choose from. I'm just not brave enough to try the horchata or the Mexican Sodas that they have here. This place is really affordable, the taco was pretty good, I could've used more green chili to smother my burrito. The flavor is o-k, I did drown it in red chili hot sauce, because the green chili sauce didn't do it for me. For $7, I can't complain, I had a better time than Taco Bell. Then again, please let me know of somewhere that's affordable, not a chain restaurant, and has great Mexican in the northern area of town??? Eat for life! read more
