After getting a hair cut I was hungry. So I stepped inside. I ordered a Colorado Burrito. And a soda and went to my table. The service was fast and she brought out my burrito served piping hot. With fresh ground beef inside. The prices are reasonable. No Frills place that serves good mexican food with a Colorado twist. read more

El Azteca Restaurant - Smothered Colorado burrito - Mexican Near Me - Thornton, Colorado

I had such a big craving for some taqueria food today. This business was in the area, stated quick service and this seemed like as good a place as any. I took some friends with me for a nice quick lunch, and the location it's self was hard to find, even when using Google Map. We walked in to a completely empty restaurant, the decor was standard tacky and definitely understated. One whole wall has 8x10 glossy pictures of the food and name, this is an impressive menu display to say the least. The staff (of 1) was nice and took my order. I love chilaquiles, they are simple and easy to make. It's basically a chip, but instead it's strips of corn tortilla, freshly fried and then smothered in a savory salsa and then topped with an egg. I requested a substitute of shredded chicken for the egg and then added lettuce, tomato and crema. She was very accommodating and my order was in! What was given to me didn't look a thing like the picture or felt like a the traditional dish. Instead, I received a plate with rice and beans on the side, with regular store bought corn chips instead of the chilaquiles. The salsa was about as thin as water, so it seemed to be a soup base that they were swimming in. My chicken was bland and sparse and I couldn't get over the fact that the presentation looked ok, but the taste and product was lacking. My friend ordered a tostada and the salsa on her food was also like water that it broke and was soggy by the first bite! The waitress/cashier disappeared to the back and never came back out again. The rice and beans were good however, I just felt that their salsa was lacking in every way possible so regardless of the menu option, you aren't going to have anything as mouthwatering as the pictures on the wall menu promise. I can't say I will go back again, we had to endure the worst techno music sound bite repeatedly the whole time, it was mind numbing and really didn't help the atmosphere, read more

El Azteca Restaurant - Chilaquiles with shredded chicken, lettuce, tomato and sour cream. Side of rice and beans, with horchata to wash it down! - Mexican Near Me - Thornton, Colorado

Great breakfast burritos - huge, filling, and super cheap. My husband and I order burritos from here at least once a week and we are always pleased. They remind us of the breakfast burritos that we used to order on the beach in San Diego. read more

Just moved into the neighborhood and thought we'd try this place out. All of the sides were great! The beans and rice were very good. The main parts of the dishes were not good. The Chilie Releno had the texture of a sponge and tasted bland! One of the most disgusting things I've ever put in my mouth!!! Our chips for our chips and salsa were over cooked and tasted a little burnt. Wouldn't say don't ever go here, give it a shot. You may like it. But I'll pass. read more

Most authentic Mexican food I've had in a while. Awesome prices and great customer service. I would definitely recommend.

The food here is amazing. I'll remember this place next time I drive through. I grew up near Los Angeles and the Mexican food was great, this place is even better!!!! read more

The food here did not taste fresh. Everything tasted processed or like it was microwaved. Not good. Similar food quality to Chuy's or maybe Chilis. Tamale Kitchen is probably a better and cheaper choice for ghetto mexican food here. Pros: Super Friendly staff Good service Average prices Cons: The food is just a step above Taco Bell. (Runny guacamole, probably filled with sour cream, wife's taquitos were chewy and not fresh, beans snd rice were definitely not fresh) Very cold and uninviting and noisy interior No beer No fresh brewed iced tea, everything processed read more

Love their food My order is always on time a great environment The workers are great it's cheap and fast read more

We had such a good time at this restaurant. We were such a big group, but everyone was so sweet and nice. The food was excellent, one of the best Mexican restaurants we have ever been! read more

Best Mexican food in the northern suburbs. Large servings for a very reasonable price. Never disappoints!!

Reminds me of my favorite mexican food place in San Diego... also named El Azteca. Is this place related??? Either way, it's my favorite in Thornton so far by a long shot. Any way they could add a California Surf&Turf burrito to their menu??! read more

Good food and a great value, you will not go away hungry.

The place is small, but clean. Horchata is too watery...but still okay. I ordered the chicken chimichanga meal (#14). Its a little bland and the chicken is a little dry...but perfectly fine to eat. Total was 11 bucks and some change, and I will be back. read more

Excellent food!! It's super affordable too! Like 9 bucks for a massive plate and a drink. Food is easily top 3 I've ever had, and I eat a lot of Mexican food for a white dude haha! Def come here. read more

Amazing! Above expectations for their carnitas tacos! Great place to grab a bite in a casual relaxed atmosphere. Friendly fast service read more

El Azteca Restaurant - Mexican Near Me - Thornton, Colorado

Ordered delivery. The green chili was so bland I had to open a can of jalapenos to add to it.

This was close to our home and after reading the positive reviews here I wanted us to check it out. The food was expensive for what we got and tasted very bland. I was hoping it was one of those places that looks like nothing but had great food- I was wrong. I would say to not waste your time to those checking it out, we will not return. read more

Love this place. The food is always taste good, good portions and reasonable cheap! Ialways get a carne asada quesadilla smothered!

I've been in Colorado for a year now and have only tried a handful of Mexican food places in the Denver/Aurora area, only to be mostly disappointed until now! This place reminds me of my favorite taco shop back in San Diego CA! For $20ish we got two amazing combo meals. Giant burrito, good quality carne asada, tortillas, the beans and rice were cooked perfectly, the guac was fantastic and the salsa exactly the spicy I crave! Highly recommend and plan on coming back very soon. read more

Hole in the wall. My favorite Mexican food around. They are nice, and friendly. All my kids make it a stop during the school week( when school was open), Tuesday's lunch date. My personal favorite is the nachos. Servings are always big and food is consistent in flavor, and quality. read more

Really can't complain for the price. Seriously. Super inexpensive for pretty decent food! I had never heard of this place until today when some friends suggested we go there which is weird because my BF and I frequently search for New Mexican restaurants to try out. I digress. I ordered the smothered tamales that came with beans and rice. The tamales were pretty dry on the inside (my abuelita used to make them in our kitchen so I guess I'm used to that). But I guess being smothered helped with that a bit. Y estan muy picante, you can barely taste the pork over the chili. It was also a lot of food. Definitely filled me up. My BF ordered the Azteca burrito which he thought was DELICIOUS!! But the rice and beans weren't anything to write home about. All in all, it was decently good food, but there's definitely better Mexican in the area. I would come back here but I wouldn't necessarily crave it. read more

been coming here for years and i'm continuously impressed every time! the owners and employees are always friendly and kind

I love the chile rellenos! They are made with fresh chiles and are delicious. I've had a hard time finding good Mexican food in Colorado and this is the best I've found so far. While it's not the best Mexican food I've ever had (I'm from southern Nevada and Southern California) it's the best I've found in this area. And I've been searching for 6 years. It's nothing fancy and don't expect amazing service but the food is most definitely worth a stop! read more

Always have great food here with great prices. Customer service is always nice and the food comes out quick. I wish I lived closer to this place. Had the big plate and was the perfect amount of food and taste great. read more

El Azteca Restaurant - Mexican Near Me - Thornton, Colorado

There is nothing authentic or original at El Azteca. Everything comes out of a box or can; flavor doesn't lie. Dine-in eaters can enjoy their terrible meal on plastic plates with flimsy plastic ware in an unwelcoming cafeteria-like dinning room. I tried this place because of the semi decent reviews here in yelp. I'm sorry but anyone who thinks this food is tasty or authentic lives in a cave...or so far north of the border they can see ocean. My taste buds have not been so upset in a while! The enchiladas had unmelted shredded cold cheese in the center!!! Better mexican food comes out of my own kitchen. I truly wish I could recoup every penny spent here today! read more

This place is so good, great hangover food. We always crave it and have it delivered from GrubHub. Reasonable price and friendly service. I always get the breakfast burrito with chorizo and steak, so bomb! read more

I've tried three different menu items here and I'm just not a fan. Rolled Chicken Tacos: The best item I've had. Very bland chicken, good guac. Chicken Quesadilla: Not very good at all. Yummy tortilla, bland chicken, lots of big tomatoes and green peppers. Just not good. Enchiladas: Decent but red sauce is salty. Never had enchiladas with big chunks of peppers in it. Rice: Minute rice texture and way too salty. Beans: Very bland. Everything I've tried is basically too salty or ridiculously bland. I won't be giving this place another shot. read more

I walk in to the restaurant. Me: One please Her: huh? Me: One please Her: for what? Me: To eat? Her: blank stare Me: Food. Here. *points to tables* Her: OH! Well you have to order up here first then take it and sit down. Not off to a good start. You can't even be bothered to bring it to the table. Ok. Then I look at the menu. Not only does everything actually LOOK like it's right out of a can in the pictures the food is actually on paper plates. Canned food, paper plates, challenged help, I could absolutely do better than this at home for half the price. Left without ordering. read more

For a quick burrito, these guys do a pretty good job. A guy I work with comes in with these all the time, so I finally asked him about it. Just as I left I called them and ordered a burrito to go, and it was waiting for me when I arrived. Nice and thick, good carne asada, and guac was included without asking or casting extra. Their hot salsa is pretty good. I also liked that it's not stuffed with rice or potatoes as a filler, I got great flavor in every bite. I'm most likely going to start ordering more often from this place. read more

This is the best authentic tasting Mexican food I've found since I left Texas finally some place l can really enjoy. I can't wait to try some more of your wonderful dishes It took me going to Thornton to find exactly what I had been looking for since I moved back home over a year ago. FINALLY!!!!! read more

We're so glad to have found this hole-in-the-wall. Santiago's has always been our go-to Mexican place, but Azteca may have replaced it. The service is fairly quick and the food tastes like my grandmother's Mexican cooking... And she's from Mexico. Definitely try the Azteca meal, which comes with a carnitas burrito, rice and beans. It's very affordable and incredibly filling. read more

You know, I'd love to give this biz more stars if anything for the food. But...they recently have put a girl there running the place at night. She's rude and witchy. She screws up every order I make. Last time they left off guac from my dish. I went back in and told said girl, and she argued with me! I love the other guys there but since this girl now seems to be running the joint I just can't give them my business any longer. Too bad. read more

I had a burrito there last week and it was really good and it filled me up, it tasted authentic. !!!

Excellent food and service! Best hangover food and never a long wait. Tacos, burritos, smothered chili fries bfast burritos are the bomb !

How this trash restaurant is still in business, I'll never understand. I'd rather eat a plate of dog food than the crap I was served by these bums. There's absolutely nothing authentic about the food here. I'm not joking when I say you can get fresher food from the taco Bell down the street. Don't waste your money here read more
