Best breakfast burritos in Northglenn/Thornton area! Family that owns the place is amazing! The green chili in my opinion is better than Santiago's and I love Santiago's! The burritos are a nice size as well. I usually get a handheld but I occasionally like to get smothered. This one I had to take home and reheat because something popped up but even microwaved 7 hours later it's still perfect! They put a fried egg inside of it so if you don't want that make sure to ask for scrambled. After driving by this place all the time for a decade, a friend of mine suggested I go here when I was craving a smothered green chile burrito. Thanks, friend! I hit this place up about every 2 weeks now. The green chilie is the star. I get half and half, which gives me the right amount of kick. I've tried: beef, beef & bean, chicken and steak. The beef is my favorite but all are good. While waiting for my order I have watched numerous people come in just to order a quart of the green chile to go, that's how you know it's good. Really good prices, and the lady running the counter was very friendly and kind. We got the deluxe smothered steak burrito. We got the green Chile medium, and I am really glad we didn't get it hot, as it was pretty spicy! It was the best part of the meal. Was craving a beef and bean burrito at work today and just didn't want to order from the same overpriced places we usually do. Had found some good reviews for Cafe Mexico so I ordered from them for the first time. OMG! That simple Smothered Beef & Bean burrito was probably one of the best I've had in my entire life! It's ok but not good. The chicken enchiladas hardly had any red enchilada sauce-pretty dry. The chicken filling had a lot of onions, the rice was ok and I didn't like the beans. Smaller family owned business, they were all working in the back like a well oiled machine preparing authentic Hispanic food. I ordered two burritos a simple bean n cheese and a mild pork bean n cheese. Which were so filling I ended up saving one for the next day. I feel a part of my childhood in the way they prepare their beans and melt in the cheese. GROSSS! I've never had such disgusting Mexican food. I got a smothered burrito, it just looked and tasted dirty. Beans aren't refried, the bean juice looks dirty. Just yuck. I've been eating at Café Mexico for quite some time now (3 yrs ish). Within the last say, few months, it seems like the food quality has gone slightly downhill. Not sure if they changed cooks, or it's because of Covid BS, or what is going on exactly, but it's definitely not as good as it was before. The last go round with them gave me some pretty nasty stomach problems. Nothing like E. coli, or salmonella, or anything like that, just cramping and diarrhea and minor things like that. Definitely came from Café Mexico. I think I will have to put this on my list of places to avoid just because of the stomach distress. It was kind of the same with Tamale Kitchen. I had a pretty good record with them, then one day I got really sick from their food. Not good. Pros: Friendly staff Relatively clean inside Very reasonably priced Cons: The food taste has recently gone downhill, it seems like everything is lacking spice lately. This review is based on a faster food criteria rather than a sit down get served criteria. This place has good solid Mexican food at a cheaper price. Their green chili is delicious with bits of green chilies, pork bits and tomato here and there. The way I make my own green chili. Good smothered burritos. We ordered the Large green chile plate, the pork breakfast burrito smothered and chips and salsa. This place has a New Mexico feel and food . The green chile plate was kinda tasty but no meat. Sporadic little pieces of pork found among the plate. Ordered an all carne asada burrito and plopped it in the plate so I could have some meat. It was a little on the salty side. We tried a red pork tamale. Once again kinda tasty but no meat. A mush like paste. Wasn't a fan. My hubby had the pork breakfast burrito smothered and he said flavorful but no meat in it. Chips and salsa were tasty. Would not go back because I am not a fan of this New Mexican cuisine. I find it had too much cumin in everything. After walking past Cafe Mexico so many times in the past, and questioning the food quality and cleanliness based on mixed reviews here, I finally stopped in today and got a chance to try it out. The first big plus (for me, anyway) was that there were only a couple of other customers, which was awesome, as I had already rolled by three other normal stop-offs, and couldn't deal with any of them because of the long lines. I didn't encounter any issues with the cleanliness of the place, and was actually cracking up at the old-skool, 60s vinyl booth seats, along with the leather-wrapped tables. Other than those, it wasn't too done up on the decor side of things, but was definitely clean. I went with the Smothered Chicken Burrito, which came with Pork Green Chile, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Everything was great, and only took a couple of minutes to prepare. Between the two, I'd say that the green chile and entrées at Santiago's are a bit hotter, especially when you order them extra hot as I usually do, but no complaints, I'll definitely return. The only downer was that there was a notice on the menu stating that drink refills were limited to just one. read more

We got HANDHELD burritos this morning to go. Isn't the purpose of a HANDHELD so they you can eat it to go. I unwrapped mine and they only fold the tortilla it split coming out of the top all over my car down the side of the seat. I ordered mild chili and one medium they mixed it up it was so hot. I'm sorry your Hispanic you should know how to wrap up a burrito in what you specialize in. I have to clean my car now from it being every where. Not happy at all. A disgrace to a Culture if you ask me. Very sloppy not HANDHELD burrito. And can't get a order correct only make it the way you want not what the customer orders. These are my very favorite breakfast-burritos around! I typically do carry-out, and they are very speedy. The husband-wife duo (or at least I assume they're husband-wife) are friendly and efficient. Unfortunately, I haven't been here in about a year after reading health inspections from the tri-county health department--lots of violations. Looks like they may have cleaned things up though, with no violations since last May, so I'll have to give it another try soon. read more

Doesn't look like much when you drive past, but (for Colorado) this is some really good Mexican food. They're still open during the pandemic, just takeout, but from what I can tell the employees are extremely kind and hilarious. Amazing customer service and always great food. You'll have to excuse me. I'll be writing this review as I lay on my bed, hungover on cheesy meaty outrageousness, trying to recover from the bizarre earthquake in my intestines. The culprit on the seismograph (you know, that thing that measures earthquakes) is known as a smothered burrito. It is always so delicious, and I just kept eating and eating it. My brain will not allow me to put my fork down. But alas, I can't even get through one fourth of this monstrosity without feeling something really wrong with my body. And then I go back for more. Reasonable prices, and actually pretty cheap for what you get. I get the half & half for the green chile. Perfect complement for the mound of diary and poultry (or beef or pork, depending on what kind of day I'm having) currently making its way to my stomach (and thighs and buttocks. You're welcome for the visual). Only complaint? Closed on weekends. But I hear they do a pretty mean breakfast burrito that will give you the same results as the smothered burrito. read more

I was on my way to Safeway this morning to get my breakfast of a yogurt, banana and a Sobe Lean green tea. For some unexplained reason, the healthy stuff lost out to a breakfast burrito from Cafe Mexico. The forces pulling on my steering wheel were too great to overcome. I just recently got moved back to the north part of town for my work. I had been stuck on the west end for the past few years so Cafe Mexico and its sisters Burritos & Co have been pretty much inaccessible to me. Nothing has changed here. I have had lunch here quite a few times, but the stand-out for me is their breakfast burritos. It's still a really decent burrito. The taste is still the same, and is unique to these restaurants. I love the flavor of their chili. For me, it's unmistakable. For breakfast burritos, the meat options are limited....sausage, pork, chicken or beef. $2.25 without cheese, $2.50 with. Mild, hot or half & half on the green chili. The one thing I love about them is the way they don't use scrambled eggs like most other places. Instead, you'll find a whole fried egg inside. This, along with the generous amount of chili they put in makes for a very 'moist' burrito. Just enough to not have any type of a dry feeling in your mouth, but not so much that you make a mess of the thing trying to eat it. Service is always fast and friendly. The prices have only budged by a quarter since I've been going here. You can use a credit/debit card here if you have a PIN. The counter top machine charges $1.50 fee as it's basically an ATM. They're closed on weekends. Lunch/dinner is your basic Mexican fare. Decent, but wouldn't make me go out of my way like the breakfast burritos do. I don't care for the taste of their beans. They almost have that canned taste to them. The iced tea is brewed, not fountain. I left off one star for the few items I mentioned above, and the fact that even though the flavor and quality is always consistent, the size of the burritos isn't.
