I have never had middle eastern food before, but I'm a foodie so I was ready to try something new. the women at the front counter walked me through the different meats/spices and dishes. I went with the chicken shish bowl. White rice bulgar, grilled marinated chicken breast, pickled cabbage/ lettuce salad with a thick lemony dressing. I actually liked their Tzatziki better because I'm not a huge lemon fan, but when I mixed it together, it was really nice. The bowl was full of flavor. I loved the bulgar and the chicken was so moist and tender. Everything mixed with a bit of The pita, which was warm and fluffy was the perfect bite. My friend got the chicken shawarma wrap and I had a bite. That was very tasty too. Cute little place in Rte 1. Order at the counter and they bring it to your table. I don't know if all the ingredients were GF but besides the pita, seems pretty gluten friendly. I will definitely be back when in the area. It was so good I forgot to take a picture lol read more

Really great Mediterranean chicken! Working in downtown, I was spoiled with all the great Mediterranean options. I've found the one in the north shore! The falafel is moist and not greasy. The rice pudding is pretty bomb too. The mixed grill plate is a great option to share with 2-3 people. It's got a little bit of everything for everyone. read more

We went for lunch last weekend. They have plenty of seating and high chairs if you need them. We got the dip appetizer. It came with tzatziki, carrot yogurt dip, baba ganoush, and hummus. Every dip was delicious. BUT it was only served with two homemade pitas. Not nearly enough to even make a dent in the dips. It's a pretty expensive app so we expected more to dip with. I got the chicken kabob wrap and my husband got the lamb. They were very delicious but we were still a little hungry. Could have more food. My toddler had their chicken fingers and fries and they were pretty good. Fries didn't have much flavor. We would go back but it is way more pricy than we expected. read more

Easy to spot right off Route 1, parking's no issue. Inside feels laid back, you grab your own seat. You can order from the kiosk or the cashier, but the kiosk menu misses a bunch of newer items shown on the posters, especially the drink specials. The crème brûlée chiller looked great and was actually pretty good, just not something you'd crave later. Hot cocoa came in a big mug loaded with marshmallows, looked fun, tasted fine. The Istanbul mixed grill plate hit hard though. Doner, chicken shish, kofta, lamb shish, rice, bulgur, salad, fries, pita. Garlic sauce was the MVP, I drowned everything in it. Lamb and kofta were the standouts, juicy and full of flavor. Fries stayed hot and crispy, salad was fresh, pita was alright. Portions were more than fair. Service moved a little slow but not in a way that killed the mood. Overall will come when I can to try more. read more

I cannot say enough amazing things about Istanbul Diner Cafe! Every visit is an absolute pleasure, and a huge part of that is thanks to Richard. He's one of the most welcoming, attentive, and genuinely kind employees I've ever encountered. Whether you're a regular or walking in for the first time, he makes you feel right at home and truly adds to the warm atmosphere of the restaurant. The food is unbelievable -- every single dish is bursting with flavor, and the meats are always cooked to perfection. Never overdone, never dry... just tender, juicy, and seasoned beautifully. Honestly, there are no bad choices on the menu. Every plate is consistently delicious, and you can tell how much care goes into each recipe. They also offer a great variety of drink options, from traditional Turkish beverages to your usual sodas, teas, bottled water, so there's something for everyone. The space itself is super accommodating. Whether you're stopping in for a quick solo lunch or coming with a big group, there's plenty of seating without ever feeling cramped. Very clean tables and seats. The music playing throughout the restaurant sets a nice vibe -- noticeable enough to add energy but never too loud or overbearing. I absolutely love coming here, whether it's for a quick bite during the day or a cozy dinner at night. Istanbul Cafe has truly become one of my go-to spots in Saugus, and I can't recommend it enough! I love the food here! Do not go here if you are looking for a quick meal. The order at the counter situation is misleading for takeout customers. It should be quick, however every time I have been there I have waited 25+ mins for my food when I was quoted 15. Definitely best to call ahead. The first time I went, I noticed several groups of people had ordered, ate their food, and left. I ordered at the tablet and had to check in twice (the first time I went up they had not started my order). The manager told me he'd refund me because it was about 40+ mins, but he never did. I had to go back and ask for a credit and they would only allow me to order exactly what I ordered the last time even though my dietary needs have changed-would have appreciated a credit for the same amount I paid to my order. 5 stars for food, 2 stars for wait/service/kitchen times read more

I've always wanted to try this place since I pass by it all the time, and I'm so glad I finally did. The hospitality was amazing from the moment we walked in. We dined in, and they bring everything right to your table, which made the experience feel even more relaxed and enjoyable. They checked in on us to make sure everything was good, and even gave us complimentary rice pudding to try, which was such a thoughtful touch. Even got some to go. Everything we ordered was a 10/10 -- the food and dessert were both incredible. I would definitely recommend this place and will absolutely be coming back read more

The food was great. I lived in the Middle East for 2 years, and this was some of the best food I have had out side of the rgion. I had the falafel appetizer, with the spicy sauce, good kick, but not overpowering. And the Doner was great! Too boot, the staff are the friendliest people I met, from Turkey, friendly, engaging and I hope everyone will support this business! read more

Delicious, fresh, clean, tasty food served in a clean and friendly environment. Definitely worth another visit. Highly recommend.

Food quality is not super but it edible, I honestly a big chicken connoisseur when it's come to wings. My brother who own this business please be light on the seasoning, because this will give people a high blood pressure. Another note is this wings quality is a bar food, it's the type of wings that people will eat after a long night of clubbing and etc. I hate to leave a bad review but I have to give it 3 star that's just me being generous; due to the nature of small business but I'll not be coming back again I spend about 20 dollars on your establishment. Please so better ! Remember to light on the seasoning ! read more
