WOW!
That's the best way to start this review.
Talk about finding hidden gems off the beaten path, Isla's (pronounced EYE-LA's) totally fulfills that criteria. My wife said she discovered Isla's last year while out biking with a friend. I'm sure she and her friend must have eaten everything they bought because I would DEFINITELY recall if she brought any of these goodies home. Well, Isla's has moved since my wife's last encounter with her but once again my wife stumbled across her "shed" while out biking today.
That's right, I said "shed." Isla bakes her goods in the family's house and sells them from a shed in front of the house. I'm told that Isla is about the age of a sixth grader as of this writing. All her baked goods are sold on the honor system. There is a locked box to accept cash, or you can pay through Venmo.
My photos today do not include the Double Chocolate or the Monster cookies. I ate them both before I realized that I had to tell the Yelp community what you are missing out on. The Lemon Glazed cookie, and the Devine Double Chocolate Brownie only get to be photo stars by default of what was still left while I write this.
The two cookies I ate first had an amazing soft and chewy texture. I don't recall all the things that were in the Monster cookie other than M&Ms as evidenced by their shell colors that bled into the dough. There was really good chocolate flavor in the Double Chocolate. The Lemon Glazed continued with the soft and chewy texture and just the right amount of glaze to emphasize some tartness.
OK, I had to try the Brownie before I finished this. By weight it seemed quite hefty. But when I bit into it the center was light and airy. The edges had the chewiness that I always look for and the double chocolate with chips was right on. I thought I might only eat half, but I ended up eating the whole brownie. Baking doesn't get any better than this. read more
