After a hard-core day of riding dirt, mud, trails and backroads our group of hard-core bikers scurried into this establishment for a few scoops of frozen heaven. The first thing that caught our dirt Filled eyes was the unique candy selection on the wall. Stuff I have not seen since I was a child.: (Not that I am old). Next my eyes focused on the digital menu board that displayed the plethora of scrumptious choices of their homemade ice cream. Halfway through the menu a little bit of drool was dripping on the floor from my Saliva glands making my mouth water profusely. So many delicious choices, I had to find out what was the biggest and baddest of their selections. It turns out to be the banana split served in a tub. This 55 gallon drum look alike was filled with bananas, three different kinds of ice cream, chocolate syrup,other toppings, whip cream and cherry! Oh my goodness..... I think my head is going to explode.... ....good thing I am wearing a motorcycle helmet. That mess would not be pretty in such a beautiful store. After Ripping my wallet from my pants, I cheerfully paid then rushed to Carry the payload of ice cream out to the picnic tables across the street by the stream. After enjoying the beautiful view of the stream and the babbling brook, I Wielded a plastic spoon like a samurai wields his sword, slicing into the frozen cream with expert precision. The whip cream, chocolate and flavored ice cream I had ordered all culminated in an explosion of flavors in my mouth. I think I let out a little scream of ecstasy as it slid down my throat. There is nothing like homemade ice cream to get you excited for the next bite. I probably gained 2 pounds from eating this enormous treat that was Prepared with love. But it's worth every pound I might gain. Shortly thereafter it was time to get back on the motorcycle and ride a few more mountain tops. The sun was warm and starting to get an orange tint as it was contemplating setting in a couple hours. The warm wind was blowing the leaves ever so slightly, the Mountain tops were screaming my name like a lost child screams for their parents at the mall. Did you know the Wemple & Edick's now has an outdoor venue space?! They do...and it was an amazing place to have our daughter's graduation party. Not only were the managers helpful, they were organized, creative and fun to work with. The food (pizza, sundaes, pasta salad, cookies and veggie tray) was delicious! The outdoor space was user friendly and beautifully designed. I would definitely recommend checking out Wemple & Edick's for your next get together! read more

This year, 2022, W&E has new management, and the new owners have very wisely added a little bakery to compliment their ice cream delights consisting of many unusual favors all made right at the store. This is a MUST stop if you're looking for a fairly unique and very tummy-pleasing experience. They also sell excellent cheddar cheese. read more

Homemade ice cream in a cute little shop that's been around since the 1800's. Ice cream was yummy but there weren't any baked good available. We sat on the porch and enjoyed it. Poor porch needs some fixing up. Wonder if they don't do a good business because of the location? Sure wish we could have gotten some baked goods but the Ice cream was good. read more

Wemple & Edick's is truly a destination in the middle of God-only-knows-where (seriously, I had no idea it was in Fonda until I looked it up online!) but it is so worth the trip from anywhere within a 30 mile radius! This is your archetypal "old tyme" country store where you can get delicious homemade cookies, penny candies, and some of the best ice cream anywhere. They offer flavors like lemon, pumpkin, and D2P5 (chocolate ice cream with peanut butter cups, cookie dough & chocolate chip) that are creative but not totally off the wall and appeal to folks of all ages. The drive out here is beautiful, especially right before sunset, which adds to the overall experience. I would highly recommend seeking this place out if you have any reason at all to be in the area. read more

Any trip to Wemple & Edick's will seem like an adventure to kids. It's a journey - from anywhere - just to get here. Nestled in the country, there's no better place to get quality ice cream in the region. Many small towns in Upstate NY thrive on selling soft serve ice cream, but this is the real stuff and tastes like it was made on sight. It's darn good. I took a group of 10 kids here a few times over the summer (while we were on vacation) and they still ask when we can go back. All the flavors were awesome and the staff is patient, helpful and kind. Yummmmm! I am not a big ice cream, dessert nor anything sweet person however....whenever I head home during the summer months I must stop in here. They have the best homemade ice cream I have ever tasted. Rocky Road or Rocky Trails I think is what W & E's calls it is the best. However if you are lucky enough to be in the area when the leaves are changing it is such a treat to sample the Pumpkin Ice Cream. This flavor just tastes like fall to me absolutely nothing fake about it. Wherever I live at the time it is worth it to travel back to see family and a bit farther out of the way to taste the ice cream. read more

I stopped in during a day trip through the area. It was neat to let my kids experience an old-time country store. My only complaint was that my expectations were set pretty high by the reviews and a few pictures I had seen on-line of a stocked store. The store was sparse - a couple pies, a block of cheese, and a couple pieces of candy. Also the ice cream board had more not available flavors than available flavors. We did still find something for everyone, but it was a little disappointing. I don't know if it was the time of year we went (right after Memorial Day, before schools have closed for the summer), or if it is something that will continue. This old time ice cream parlor is like stepping back in time! The antiques and displays on the shelves are incredible. I just happened to stumble upon it while driving by and was so happy I stopped in. The ice cream was fantastic and there were so many flavors to choose from! I highly recommend enjoying this place! Best homemade ice cream, half and half cookies and chocolate jumbles! At least they were the best in the early 2000s when I lived back that way. The antiques in their store is a great trip down memory lane. And having ice cream on their porch in the porch swing is the ultimate happy memory. I have lived only a couple miles from this treasure for the last 8 years. No one could believe I had never been and now I know what I was missing! The aroma as you walk in the door is intoxicating as you step back in time. I am too young to remember old time soda fountain shops but I would guess this is it. The ice cream was ultra creamy and dreamy. And the half moon cookies tasted even better better than they looked and smelled. And remember penny candy? Love stopping there on every trip to the area! It is a place stuck in time and totally charming.

For many years it has been the "go to" place for great ice cream. A recent visit shows that maybe they are slipping a bit in quality? The flavor selections seem to be fewer too (what happened to Black Raspberry?) and, please, I beg you to get some paper cups to put the ice cream scoops in. Styrofoam cups just don't cut it any more. The building used to be charming, but now it just seems a bit run down and in need of a little TLC. read more
