Highly recommend! We come here all the time to eat at the food court and love their mix plate options. Last weekend we catered for a party of 20 and were blown away with what they delivered. I avoided getting food in the Crossroads food court because everything looked so expensive. I ended up getting food here for other reasons, and I got kalua pork and short ribs and mac salad. I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor of the food-- I really enjoyed it! The flavors were basically what I expected. And actually, it ended up being so much food that it served three meals (admittedly the latter meals I supplemented with sauteed vegetables, but it would've been a solid 2+ meals for me anyway). The macaroni salad wasn't the best so I probably wouldn't bother getting next time. But I do think if I'm craving some meat and rice, I live close enough that I'd come by again! read more

Since this is at the crossroads food court, there was plenty of seating. It has an old school, comforting vibe. My husband and I shared a combo plate of lau lau, kalua pork with cabbage, 2 scoops of white rice, a side of mac salad. I would say this is the closest thing to the plate lunches in Hawaii in all of Seattle area. Both the pork in the lau lau and kalua pork were so tender, juicy, and seasoned perfectly. Even though we shared a plate, the portions were definitely Hawaiian size and filled us up! The price was very reasonable for the size and quality too. The only thing that was slightly off was the Mac salad. It needed a bit of acidity or salt to it. What a waste too because the portion was huge. First, the flavor was repulsive. Not sure what was giving it a musky flavor profile. My best guess is a hint of Worchester sauce went in there. Second thing is that the beef was overly chewy. I could chew on it all day long without it breaking down. Because of these 2 major things, I have to give a 2 star overall rating. I don't understand all the hate with this place. I feel like we're judging it by too high of standard for a food court quick serve place. We've been coming here for years and it's meant for just a quick meal during or after work or in between kids afterschool activities but it always hits the spot. I don't think it's reinventing the culinary wheel but for something that comes out hot in about 5-10 mins, you get tender meat with decent flavor and big portion of protein and rice and a Mac salad that tastes like it doesn't come out of a Sysco bucket. I usually go for the chicken BBQ but the pork and BBQ beef options are decent too. My sense is skip the short ribs though. Overall, it's comfort fast food at relatively inexpensive for the area prices and great value! By those standards I think it executes well! read more

Island Grill had been around for a long time and it is the second time I ate their food. First time was several years ago. I can't remember when but I was super excited to try their Loco Moco. I was a little disappointed because it was not very tasty. Just ordinary food that you don't desire to eat again. Yesterday my friend wanted to try the macaroni salad and the Lau Lau. For our dissatisfaction it was not very good either. If you are looking for the portion size it is definitely a place for you since plates are huge. However the quality of the food is not very good. Turns out our priority was correct, as it was a "could have been better" kind of place. I can appreciate someone coming here for portion size and the cost is "ok". Quality vs. quantity - your call. We dined-in, so no drama with ordering and pick up. The lau-lau was ready quickly since it was already made. The fries took longer. About the food court, it's plenty roomy and easy to social-distance since not many people are dining out yet, not even on a Saturday night. Poor quality control! Heads-up #1 - Their green salad is the "Classic" style, meaning iceberg lettuce with shreds of carrot and purple cabbage. Ewww. That's not a "green" salad. Heads-up #2 - Mac salad is generously covered in mayo, more than I've seen at any other Hawaiian eatery. If that's your jam, you're at the right place. This place is located within the Bellevue Crossroads mall food court next to a bunch of other stalls. I ordered the Hawaiian BBQ chicken ($10.99). The chicken itself was really tender and the sauce on top helps with the flavor. It was a little burnt on the bottom which was unfortunate but not terrible. You can choose the side that you like; I chose the macaroni salad which had so much sauce it was uneatable. I only ate half of it and couldn't finish it which really never happens. There was a lot more rice than there was chicken so I couldn't finish that either. Some of my friends ordered burgers and they were also huge portions with tons of fries. I ate a couple fries and thought they were just okay though. It seems this place prioritizes the portions of the food over the quality and the taste of the food. They didn't seem that busy, but it did take a little bit over ten minutes to get my musubis. It came with the sauce on the side, the sauce that they usually already put in musubis. So, I thought that was nice for people who don't like the sauce or prefer less or more. But then, it's not easy to dip in the sauce, so you have to pour over your musubi for each bite. Seems like they didn't use the sushi rice, which was fine, but then the musubi was starting to fall apart because the rice was a bit too crumbly. I rarely give bad reviews, and will limit the review to 2 stars vs. 0-1 stars, where things really were with my experience. I'm from Hawaii. I love food. I just spent $33.02 on four pieces of lau lau - which is fine and maybe even expected given how difficult it is to get "fresh" authentic lau lau in this area. But what I received was a disaster. I'm not even sure these are taro leaves, but the leaves were totally raw and almost non-existent. Barely enough to wrap the meat. It's as if someone saw a picture of lau lau on TV and tried to replicate it with a steamer, foil, and whatever leaves were available. And it's not even about being authentic vs. not. There are a number of Chinese restaurants who can replicate Hawaiian plate lunch classics reasonably well when it comes to flavors and something you'd want to eat. What was served here - along with very old, dried out rice - was disgusting. The rest of their offerings must be good enough to pay the bills at this strip mall food court, so keep that in mind if you're checking this place out for the first time. read more

We tried the Hawaiian BBQ chicken here twice, once before we went Hawaii and once after we returned from Hawaii. I'll say I was impressed both times! The wait for the food was pretty short. We got one island plate to share between 2, which included steamed rice, chicken, and salad. We also ordered a side of garlic fries. I'd recommend adding their teriyaki sauce to the rice, which adds a little more flavor to the rice. Knocked this down to 4 stars due to that. The mac salad was good. A little bland and needs a little more salt/pepper. Give it 4.5 stars. Now, the most disappointing part of the meal. The rice. It's horrible. It was not cooked correctly at all. Parts were gooey mushy and parts were hard and over cooked. It was inedible and that's a shame. Knocked down my whole rating for everything by 1.5 stars because rice is an important part of any island meal. Price is 4 stars. $14-$15. It's not $9 like teriyaki used to be pre-pandemic. But it's not the outrageous $18 some overpriced places charge nowadays. Final score is 3.5 stars. Please improve the rice quality. Use beef brown gravy. i had a horrible surprise today during lunch. Normally order take out and i found myself in a few situations where if i found hair in my food. the last few occasions were short and on top. nothing that i am super worried about since i can pick it out and toss out what it touched and enjoy the rest of the food thinking that it didn't touch anything but what i tossed. this was not the case. at first i saw the hair sticking out of the front of the togo box. after opening, you can see it sink and disappear into the food. trying to pull it out, it was weaved and imbedded throughout the food. Every once in a while I like to go to Crossroads and eat something at the food court, especially when I'm meeting friends who want to eat something different than me. Yesterday was such a case and I decided to try this Hawaiian bbq place, where I ordered the Kailua Pulled Pork (forgot to take a picture!!!). Man the look of it was really underwhelming, very different from the picture in the menu... it was basically an oval plate, with two big balls of white rice on one side, and a sloppy mix of pulled pork and cabbage on the other. The cabbage was waaaaay too much for my taste, come on, give me more pork!!! The pork itself was good after all, very tender and tasty, but the cabbage was overwhelming. Even my digestion complained later on... I skipped the rice, and at the end I was still hungry, there was not enough meat IMHO. I agree with the average score, 3* or even a bit less... read more

Island Grill is my favorite place to eat at in Crossroads Mall! I never seem to get anything other than the BBQ Chicken, which is always so flavorful with the marinade and grilled cook. The portion is huge, too. And that's not even the best part. All of the dishes can be made as a combination, where you can try a second protein with a side of steamed rice and get another side with your choice of a salad or mac salad for less than 10 bucks! It's a bargain, especially since the entree is plentiful. My personal favorite is the BBQ Chicken and Kalua Pork combination, with a green salad. In addition to combinations, there is other classic Hawaiian fare like Loco Moco, Spam Musubi and even a variety of Hawaiian Sun juices in the fridge. I at the coconut shrimp, even though the batter was thicker than a corndog. It was chewy and tasted stale. The BBQ beef was dry and tasteless. I tried a couple of bites and gave up. There were two massive piles of rice with my order. I took a couple of bites but even the rice wasn't worth it. I can't imagine that any of this food was cooked fresh but even still I waited 15 minutes for my meal. The employees were almost animatronic. When I smiled and said thank you after I placed my order the guy just stared at me. No smile back. No acknowledging me at all. The hamburger steak... they could've kept it plain and not season the hamburger steak and you wouldn't have heard any complaints from me, but the taste was align with of a sausage patty because it was so flavorful. Finally! After writing numerous reviews asking for one, it has come to fruition. There is now a Hawaiian barbecue place on the Eastside. Island Grill is located in the food court at Crossroads in Bellevue. It is now in the spot where a couple barbecue joints, Jones and Burney's was located. The menu is fairly simple. It contains seven Hawaiian favorites, three combo choices, sandwiches and musubis. Interestingly saw BBQ chicken musubi on the menu. It always seems like Hawaiian places just have Spam musubi on the menu. Lastly, there is also a kids menu for the keikis. Decided to get a combo to try out more than one item. Got the BBQ chicken and beef combo plate ($8.75) which comes with a choice of macaroni or green salad. Mac salad seems like the default choice as I was not asked about which one I wanted. Took the plate lunch to go and the first thing I noticed is that it was surprisingly light. In Hawaii, plate lunches are known for its ginormous portions. Sometimes, enough food for two meals. The combo here has portions like the other food court places at Crossroads. Filling, but not enough to make a second meal from. Thus, the meat portions are a bit smaller and there is only one scoop of rice. Flavor wise, the meats were okay. BBQ chicken has the flavor part down, but a bit too much sauce. Also it didn't have the grill marks of Hawaiian BBQ, so it was a bit more like teriyaki chicken Hawaiian style. The beef was okay, but I would go for the short ribs which are $.20 more if you get a combo. The mac salad was good and has a nice consistency. Some versions of mac salad have tasted a bit funky with unneeded extras like celery and carrots. This version is classic which is how I like it. It is not the best Hawaiian barbecue that I have had in the Seattle area, but I will take it. Better than nothing. No longer do I have to go to a teriyaki joint if I am looking for a meat and rice plate on the Eastside. I can go to Island Grill to fill this need instead. read more
