I read some positive feedback about Famous Kitchen in the past. While I was in Issaquah, I decided to dine there. The place looked new-ish in a small plaza; several other restaurants are within sight. I yelp-checked every single one of them. All of them hover at about 3.5 stars, plus/minus some. Hmmm. Anyway, I kept the original plans and entered. They have a Chinese BBQ area that was being cleaned for the night, which makes sense. It was nearly 7pm on a Sunday. The menu had mostly ordinary Cantonese varieties with several less common ingredients like fermented bean curd, salted fish, and bitter melon. Always a good sign. When I fished recommendations from the server requesting good 'uncommon' dishes (and I spoke in Cantonese), he still pointed to the 'normal' dish. Fine, I stayed along those lines, too. The food is alright. The prices are at Eastside level. This place is worthy if you don't want to drive out of Issaquah (to Bellevue or CID). If I wasn't in Issaquah, I would not purposely drive here. The Food: Curry Beef Brisket Rice 咖喱牛腩饭, $17.99 - 3.5 Stars Tender-enough beef brisket and daikon cover a massive amount of rice. The curry is thick and pooled just right. The flavor of the curry met expectations. I wish Chinese restaurants understand it is okay to give an appropriate amount of rice instead of a massive amount to avoid waste. House Special Fried Noodle 招牌炒面/粉, $20.99 - 3.5 Stars This noodle dish surprised me that it is closer to 'soy sauce king chow mein' 豉油皇炒麵 that happens to have additional ingredients. Few restaurants serve it this way. Not a good or bad thing per se. The ingredients tend to heavily absorb the soy sauce, and the flavor profile becomes a bit too uniform. On the contrary, some may find this method more flavorful. Salt &Pepper Chicken Wings 脆皮炸鸡翅, $18.99 - 4 Stars These wings ended up being my favorite dish. They have an excellent crispy on the outside, juicy inside. Good flavor, too. They are closer to 3.5 Stars. Nothing in the overall experience stood out to round up the overall rating. read more

My parents and I stopped here for lunch yesterday, and found the place a little empty. However, after we placed our orders, the space gradually filled with customers which gave us some comfort. The service here was quick, the ambiance casual, and the food is very satisfying! The roast duck was very tender, and the rice and bok choy well cooked and seasoned. The Singapore noodles had a stronger curry flavor than I was used to, and was good. The true surprise was the salted fish chicken with eggplant. I've never had a dish like this before, and the fish smell was a little pungent. However, the taste wasn't fishy at all and had a great umami flavor. The eggplant was also tender and cooked beautifully. This is the type of food that is very comforting and makes me want to eat more even though I'm full! I wish the portions were bigger considering its price point. Of the three dishes, I can only find myself justifying the eggplant to be worth its price because it is so unique. The Singapore noodles and roast duck I believe I can find for a better value elsewhere. Though I won't be a regular customer, this was a nice find with good food! read more

Solid and quick spot to get some Chinese food along with some bbq meats. Their pork belly was probably our favorite of the char siu and roast duck. Our toddler thoroughly enjoyed the green beans and beef chow fun. The green beans were probably on the slightly salty side. Nonetheless, it was not crowded and easy spot. read more

On the way home picked up some Chinese bbq pork (char sui) and roast pig to go along with a couple of other dishes. Their Chinese style bbq and roast meats are some of the best tasting on the eastside in my opinion. Saves me a drive into Seattle !!, Service is always cordial, and quick. Also order the roast duck. If you are looking for a full and happy belly, here's the place at the restaurant or take out for home. This one was a tough one to rate. On the one hand, I loved the menu and the duo of roast and BBQ pork was one of the better versions I have had in the Seattle area, but it's tough to compare to versions in HK, Singapore or even Vancouver. Of the two versions, the roast pork belly was definitely better, crisp but not dry with a good ratio of fat to meat. The char siu , however, was dry and also not very flavorful. Perhaps some sweet soy or a sauce might have helped? One orders at the counter and the food arrives quickly. The place is clean and there is plenty of parking. So would I come back here? Definitely, if I am in the area. But next time, I'll try some other items even though I love char siu. read more

My mouth was watering when I saw the pictures of the duck. So I had to stop in and give it a shot. There is diffidently a language barrier when placing an order. I ended up ordering 1/2 Duck and Hot&Sour soup. I asked if there was a smaller size option on the soup as I was not going to be able to finish a $17 bowl of soup. Waitress just looked at me and said " OK, one soup". Which means I got the $17 portion. Food: Duck was beyond fatty, to a point I had to search for meat in the mess. Soup was actually pretty good, but again massive for one person. Service: Less than zero! Food was dropped off, then she went to sit across the EMPTY dining area and played on her phone. Duck and Soup arrived at the same time: so one visit. No refills, no check. I ended up have to walk over to the register to get rung up. My two top was literally facing the hot case that held the roast ducks, roast pork, other proteins and plate prep area. Clearly they do brisk takeout and onsite dining. It was fascinating to see the interaction between the meat cutter with an older woman ordering takeout. She had specific requirements and quantities of various proteins. I decided on hot tea and a duo rice plate ($17.99). I selected the roast pork, roast duck with steamed rice, flavorful sauce, and baby bok choy. Wow - this was fantastic! It reminded me of a plate entree I had in Richmond, BC. The meats were so succulent, generous rice, and nicely steamed bok choy. Having recently moved from Bellevue to the peaceful town of Issaquah, I had to say goodbye to the convenience of Bellevue's vibrant Asian restaurant scene. Luckily, I discovered Famous Kitchen, which offers some of the most delicious Cantonese dishes and roasted meats (duck, pork, chicken). My favorite--the roasted duck--did not disappoint. Unlike other places where the duck is mostly bones, the portions here are very meaty, and the flavor is perfectly balanced--just the right amount of seasoning without being too salty. All right, here's the TLDR: fantastic roast duck here and nothing else stood out. Went for a weirdly timed meal with a few friends on a Saturday around 4 PM and Famous Kitchen was empty besides us, but quite a few people rolled in to pick up to-go orders. The food came out exceptionally fast and there's plenty of parking in the huge shopping plaza they're located in. Signature Duck (4.5/5): Super fatty, moist, savory, and perfect amount of salt (which for this dish is a lot). Outstanding roast duck and the pricing is fairly reasonable. Keep in mind, this isn't Peking style, so it's not the crispy skin type. Roasted Pork (3.25/5): I appreciated how crunchy the skin was, but the actual meat itself was a bit too tough and chewy for my preference. Honey Char Siu (3.75/5): Solid char siu, some pieces that were fatty were really amazing, but others were a tad dry. Flavor was fairly solid with good balance between salty and sweet. Beef Chow Fun (2.75/5): Noodles were overcooked and dish was insanely bland for some reason. Beef was very tender which was great, but couldn't make up for the lack of flavor. read more

I was drawn in by the high reviews and praises of this place having "the best BBQ" but this is very much not it. Some of the worst Cantonese BBQ I've had. Got takeout and all of the meats were bland. Roast pork was all fat, pretty sure they gave us the low quality end piece (see pic for reference). It's overpriced too. Place was empty when we entered and probably for good reason. As someone who is Cantonese, I appreciate going to a place on the eastside that has food from one of my home country. Cantonese food is more tough to find as Szechuanese and Taiwanese foods are taking over. But I was fascinated by this place. The sweet and sour chicken has a nice flow of flavor that tasted amazing and the trio was even better. The Char Siu and the duck are spectacular. I noticed that this place had opened during the pandemic, and I always wanted to try. I finally got a chance to come here with a friend to try. The Chinese BBQ looked so good that we were not sure which item we should order. We ended up ordering a BBQ pork rice and a roast duck rice, so that we could share and try out 2 items at the same time. We were a bit surprised that the dishes were placed and served in to-go boxes. It's actually convenient for us to bring home in case we couldn't finish. The meat, both BBQ pork and roast duck, was very tender and delicious. The dishes also came with some bok choy. It has been a while since I have had good Cantonese BBQ, with only one place in mind in Seattle, so I was hoping to find more in the greater Seattle area. This place features some classics like BBQ pork, roasted pork, roasted duck, and chicken, to name a few, and those are the meats we ordered (half order each) along with yangzhou fried rice which is an egg fried rice with BBQ pork. The BBQ pork here is prepared pretty well and fairly tender. Roasted pork was also good, though the skin can be crispier. Roasted duck was fine - prepared as per usual, but there is just too much fat between the skin and the meat. The royal chicken is pretty solid, served cold intentionally, and pairing it with the green scallion sauce made it pretty enjoyable. Prices are quite high for what you get, but I guess the eastside is also not cheap. Overall, this is an acceptable option for Cantonese BBQ, not the best, but good to try if you are in the area. read more

I expected the food to be good but was disappointed especially since the total was over $60. While the food is fresh and fast, it's not very flavorful and it's pricey. The roast duck and roast pork looked soooo good in the display but it isn't as good as other Chinese BBQs.
