My husband and I decided to come here after the Beacon Eats. We enjoyed the atmosphere inside the place. When my husband and I got the miso soup . He relazied that the cup was about to start heading to the floor. The level of the tables aren't the same am my table . His side of the table was leaning . His soup was all over him and the table. I'd suggest getting in some new tables to prevent any burns from happening. My husband and I decided to both get the same bento box. We were surprised at how big the bento boxes looked. It came with miso soup, garden salad with ginger sauce, and then our bento box. I didn't care for the fried vegetables. The white rice was a bit cold. Other than that, everything was overall good. I would highly recommend coming here.

Fresh sashimi fish! The sushi boat is a great deal and plenty of food. Atmosphere is fine, not like a sushi restaurant in the city but it's nice for the area.

As I walked inside this Japanese restaurant it is decorated in dark woods so I immediately felt like I was in a Japanese spa. I was immediately greeted and seated. I had stopped in for lunch and ordered a chicken udon soup and a small sake. My first time trying sake, I have nothing to compare to but I did enjoy it as it sat well in my stomach. The broth was light, fresh mushrooms, carrots and bok choy. There was half hard boiled egg. On the side was hot pepper oil to give my soup a kick. I also added soy sauce for added flavor. The bowl was a good size as I was able to finish it completely. Their restrooms are very clean and parking was a free city lot across the street. No meters on the street but parking wasn't available.

I ordered a chicken tempura roll but no where on the menu did it say that the roll has roe(fish eggs) which I can't eat. Instead of offering to remake it or offering an alternative the waitress acted as if she couldn't understand me and still charged me for it even though I didn't touch it at all. Won't be returning here. The "chicken" also looked a weird color and texture.

You're not in Kyoto anymore Dorothy. It's an Americanized Japanese Chinese menu. It's a relaxed atmosphere with subdued lighting. There seems to be the usual entrees Americans are familiar with: bento, American sushi, some Chinese favorites. Service is good, the place is clean, it's accessible for all. There's no liquor license, so BYOB. It seems they've been here since before the gentrification began. Maybe that's why they named it Isamu. Japanese for courage. They're in Beacon, not little Japan in Manhattan.

Just moved to the area from Westchester and this was my first shot at takeout. Ordered via DoorDash and got Spring Rolls, Isamu Fried Rice and Egg Drop Soup. The Spring Rolls were somewhat tolerable but still not great tasting. The soup was excessively salty to the point of being inedible. The fried rice was just overall blah and not very flavorful while somehow also being a bit salty. Overall won't be ordering from here again, at least not any hot food - I might give the sushi a try since delivery pickings seem slim in the area. It's only been a couple weeks up here and I'm already desperately missing my good restaurants in Westchester!

Very prompt service here, and I will say, there very on top if you need anything and to ask if you enjoyed your meal. So for the food, best egg drop ever, it was light and warming. To often egg drop feels heavy, but here it's great. So got spicy crab caviar rolls, liked them, but wish it was bit more spicy, love a good punch of heat if it's spicy. Glad the rolls had a lot of crab in them, so not cheap on filling for sure. Now the Oyakodon, the fried chicken was crispy and crunchy with the chicken still very moist even after frying. Rice was perfect. But really wish the egg for this was either fried or a omelette blanket, a hard boiled egg was definitely not way to go with this dish and only half a hard boiled at that.

It was a very impromptu decision to go here, nonetheless we were pleased with our experience. I really only had issues with two things that I ordered, but it was two big things for me. The first is the overuse of avocado on the rolls. The avocado was sliced too big and overpowered the texture of the roll. My second was the ill prepared kani salad. Most places I've been to make sure the crab meat is shredded and mixed with spicy mayo. My kani salad came out lumped together which was not appealing, and doused with spicy mayo strips on top. A total presentation fail. As for the friendliness of the staff and cleanliness, my wife and I were impressed. I think this is a one and done for us but it's not a bad spot to try out.

Came with a party of three on a Saturday night and service was excellent. Our food arrived promptly and our server kept filling our drinks. I ordered the katsu Don and the dish wasn't what I was expecting, but not a bad meal either. I'm used to having mine with the egg over and onions, not green onions and a hard boiled egg. Either way, a hungry person was fed that night :) We also ordered a bunch of rolls to share and the assorted tempura. Our total was $126 including tip for three people.

I love Isamu. Some of if not the best sushi in Dutchess. It's in a cool area on Main Street in Beacon. The food is fresh and delicious and service is quick and polite. We love coming out for date nights late on Friday evenings. We always get a combination of different rolls and sashimi. Appetizers are awesome too - the tuna wasabi dumplings are highly recommended. If you are looking for sushi in Beacon, NY this is the spot for you. Enjoy.

This restaurant is easy to get to right in the middle of Beacon. Street parking. A pretty varied menu. Good food at a reasonable price. I'd recommend it and would probably go there again. read more

3 stars for the food, no stars for the device. Our server didn't acknowledge me and my cousin, didn't bring her appetizer, I had to ask another server about it, our soups had been ready and just sat at the ready bar for literally 20 mins she walked up to the soup bowls looked at then walked off, like really!!! I had to try and get her attention and flag her down just to ask for a soup bowls then she didn't even know what we were talking about asking what kind of soup bowls like really you took our order and you don't know what kind of soups we ordered I won't go back there again. read more

I had visited this place today, i ordered shumai appetizer and a red head and thunder roll. Shumai was exquisite but way too expensive for only 4 dumplings ($7.50). The red head and thunder rolls on the other hand had me very disappointed. The sushi rice is very poor quality, the sushi roll almost falls apart whenever i pick one up since the rice is not at all sticky. The only good part of these two rolls are just the innards. I highly recommend against visiting this place unless you are rich and don't care about wasting money on poorly made dishes. By the way my entire meal ran me $41.09 including a can of soda ($2.00) read more

Terrible service... they tried to charge us prices not listed on the menu...they deny seating when 3 or more tables are empty and insist you sit at the bar. After many visits, these bad experiences make it sure to never go there again. read more

Isamu is definitely one of the best sushi places I have been to. The special phoenix roll was absolutely amazing along with their eel. Decently priced, I'm a college student and it didn't kill me to have delicious sushi. The area its in is adorable and along the main walk in Beacon. Isamu proves that Beacon is a beautiful town really making an amazing comeback from a more ghetto area. read more

The Bento Box is a great value for dinner and an AMAZING value at lunch. Their sweet potato rolls are delicious, and their steamed vegetable dumplings are full of flavor. The service is usually great; we're regulars there and our server always remembers our orders. It has a good atmosphere, and it's always a cool, refreshing place to spend a summer afternoon. I do wish they had better vegetarian options. When we substitute an avocado roll or a sweet potato roll they always charge extra which is ridiculous. read more

Food was decent. The chicken Katsu bento box was a little bland. But the sushi was really good. My meal came out about 10 minutes before my fiancé's meal so it was ackward just letting it sit there. This place does have a friendly staff and comfortable dining atmosphere. Parking isn't usually an issue in this part of Main Street in beacon. read more

I love the food here. Every time I have ordered the food has been great. I live in Newburgh and I will drive to beacon just for Isamu. It's the only Asian restaurant that up here that I really like. I have tried several and no ones food is quite as good. I like that they are very consistent with their food. I will always be back. read more

IGNORE the bad reviews. Nothin' but a bunch of punks. I take the Mrs. here all the time and have been coming for years, suckin down countless pounds of delicious sushi, teriyaki entrees and noodles in the process. Recommend everything, but with special emphasis on their Kani salad and steamed bok choy as starters. Service is always almost immediate and the wait staff is super sweet. One time after a date and I shared a bottle of wine, I needed to start singing out "Your Love" by The Outfield. Did I get dirty looks? Was I asked to leave? Nope, the waitress just smiled and giggled and asked if we needed more drinks. The only thing I can think of that would make this place more cool is if they changed the sushi counter to a bar and served cocktails. Otherwise, go here. read more

The food here is really, really good. Best sushi and miso soup around. The salad is also incredible! My boyfriend orders the bento box almost every time we come here and he is always impressed with the quality and amount of food he gets for what he pays for. Like other reviews, what this place really lacks is good service!! The servers here are very, very impersonal and short. They act as if it is a burden to do their job, and this shows. I often feel rushed and looked down upon by the people that work here. So yes, if you can take being belittled for the sake of amazing sushi, go for it. It's worth it. read more

To the Management: If you need to exterminate for pests, for future reference please do the following: 1) Tell patrons coming in close to closing time that you are indeed closed and NOT "Yes we are open, what would you like?" 2) Maybe wait until the one guy who just ordered a Bento box leaves your establishment before you have pest control start spraying the kitchen where his food is being prepped? 3) Have Mr. Mayhem park his roach hearse down the block or side street. read more

A rare sushi gem. Ocean chic roll was one of the most interesting sushi concoctions I've had in many years. Service was delightful and offered us a savory amuse bouche as we were seated. Friendly staff, delicious sushi. I did not experience the negative wait staff other reviewers did. Who would suspect such a great food hidden away like this? Stopped here for lunch one day, and it's been a favorite ever since. Service is excellent even when every table is full. The sushi is tasty and freshly made. The bento boxes are an excellent choice that will give you a little taste of everything from sushi to hibachi. Just writing this review makes me want to hop in the car and head there right now. The front of the restaurant front isn't big and neither is their sign, so be careful not to drive by when looking for it. read more

This was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had. The service was terrible and incredibly slow, the food was sub par and on one of the hottest days this Summer they had no working air conditioning. The air conditioners were running but the restaurant was 90 degrees. I would suggest going elsewhere. read more

What's wrong with the owner of Isamu? It is in an awesome location, the inside is done right but...I just tried it again after a long time away. Rude people. Again. That should have had me turn around but I didn't. I looked at the take out memo and asked if the spicy tuna was chopped sushi tuna or the "mix" which is disgusting. They seemed to have trouble understanding but then the man I asked (who I assumed was the sushi chef) said it is chopped. Then the girl had me pay and told me ten minutes. There was no one there. The "sushi" chef continued to chat with a young woman sitting at the end of the counter (an employee.) Finally, my food came from the back kitchen. I commented that I thought the sushi chef prepared the sushi/rolls. No response. Tuna mush. Disgusting. Last time. Can spend me money elsewhere from now on. read more

As an update, I get sushi from here usually every 1-2 weeks (it's right around the corner). The fish is normally fresh but there have been a couple times I am not as pleased with it. The Chinese does tend to be on the greasy side, but it's still good if you're in the mood for Chinese. read more

This place is bad. The service is way to fast. They don't allow you to enjoy your food. The tables are too small to accommodate for all the food they bring out, because you get it all at once rather than spaced out. The food overall is terrible. The crab rangoons were stale and disgusting. The sushi there is also not fresh and bad tasting. The rice is even bad, white rice and pork fried rice tasted store bought and microwaved rice! The sesame seed chicken again was stale and felt like it was sitting around for days. The egg roll was even poor. The only good thing enjoyed between a few people today was miso soup that was brought out, and even that was mediocre at best. Would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Just left the best dinner I've had in I don't know how long. The sushi was amazing and great portions. I also had the garlic chicken and vegetables which was fantastic. We ended dinner with the green tea mochi which was the perfect size to end the meal, amazing. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. Our food came out quickly and I thoroughly enjoyed every bite! read more

Not tough overcooked eggs. The brown sauce that comes with it, was on the side. It was smooth, all gloppy like some places serve it. The fried rice was also pretty good. Not loaded down with soy sauce. The egg roll wasn't oily nor greasy, hot - YES. I noticed one of the cooks was hand rolling egg rolls, and putting them on the side. So they're not from Restaurant Depot. Not a bad lunch and later dinner.

Went twice in the past few weeks and food was solid both times. Also quickly prepared. Kitchen looks clean which is a nice plus. Wonton soup was great as was lo mein and chicken with broccoli. Only the fried rice I did not care for.

My wife & I use to love going there, the food was fresh, but we noticed a year ago, the portions seem to get smaller, it's hard getting full on the usual order...which was noticeable; the sushi itself was good, just smaller....which is baaaad!!! We've found better Sushi in Pok, NY, with better service, and friendly wait staff. Isamu is better than Neiko and the other large Sushi on Rte 9; but we prefer the restaurant in Hyde Park & "Budda" on Rte.9. Another great restaurant is located off Rte 55 in the Apple Valley Shopping Mall....and they serve a comlimentary Edamame to start the table...which is wonderful. Food portions are filling at that location and "Buddha" on Rte. 9, we prefer those restaurants to Isamu. read more

Try the tuna wasabi dumplings and fried chicken dumplings! Everything went well and it is the best and fresh sushi. For vegans/vegetarians they have other options as well. Tofu, edamame,fish and miso soup. Also vegetable tempura with rice. They can make all gluten free meal with the gluten free soy sauce and stir fry noodle with gluten free sauce. Isamu is by far our favorite sushi restaurant. We have to come here countless times. It's a bit of a hike for us and we definitely have closer options, but we make the trels to isamu at lease four times a month. It's worth it every time. The apps, salad sashimi and special rolls which are all great. It's available try the tuna wasabi dumplings that you'll not be disappointed. read more

Absolutely delicious food and very friendly service. I can't understand why such people annoying with the service. I usually eating here and have a good communication with the employers. Just told them what you want clearly they won't refuse you. Last time i forgot my hat someone rush out to give it to me.
