Came here for the first time this morning because it was the first coffee shop we ran into. Nine dollars for a basic cup of coffee and a latte. Had the coffee with a little cream two packets of sugar and it tasted terrible, like it was burned. Took it back to the counter and she gave me what she said was a different blend... I was really looking forward to trying Ironsmith Coffee. I pre-ordered through Chow-Now, one latte and one drip. When I went to pick them up, they weren't ready (only one barista/cashier working. I asked for 2 scones while I waited. As I was waiting, the gentleman having a visit on the bench, went behind the counter and started taking orders. Someone ordered a cookie and he said "would you like that heated?" Obviously, I wanted my scones heated and wasn't asked - so I got up and asked if he could warm my purchased scones. I did notice afterwards that he did not wash his hands or put gloves on after returning to behind the counter. (After he handled my scones). I found the scones to be ok, not great. The coffee definitely has the right name - IRONSMITH. My coffee tasted like it had a rusted nail in it. The drip didn't taste any better. So looking forward to going here - but regret purchasing a bag of espresso for my home machine now. Service was iffy. Not Covid aware - and food was just ok. read more

I had high hopes for this place due to the star reviews. I should have read through the reviews more thoroughly. We ordered an iced machiatto, mocha and iced masala chai. The kiddos also wanted bagels. The only good menu items were the iced masala chai and bagels which were served room temp with Philadelphia cream cheese. Also ordered a cookie but didn't receive one. The machiatto and mocha were very underwhelming. Overly acidic and the mocha was gritty. Dumped our drinks and off to find another coffee shop to get our caffeine fix. Such a shame and waste. Don't listen to the poor reviews. These people just have a chip on their shoulder with life and probably hide out in their homes with masks on complaining about air quality. Ironsmith was very busy when I walked in (which says a lot about their loyal customer base and deliciousness of the product) I was expecting to wait a long time. Got to the front of the line and ordered two americanos and a speciality Carmel drink. The guy at the counter served me with a smile and was so warm and friendly. My order; I kid you not came out so quickly I didn't have any time to collect my thoughts. At first I thought it must have been pre made. But the delicious smell beckoned me to try a drink. The taste, wow!!!!! Amazing. It took my taste buds to a different planet, the coffee was so rich and delicious. My girlfriend loved her caramel drink as well and said she wants to to bring her a coffee from Ironsmith daily (sorry hunny I'm a baller on a budget.) Needless to say my experience was nothing short of wonderful. The good news; this place really cares and really loves their product. Since the review I discovered I was allergic to dairy, but Ironsmith to the rescue because they have oat milk, which is my preference. Ironsmith coffee roasters offers decently good coffee and simple, delicate decor all perfectly located in the hub of Encinitas. I ordered the dirty chai latte based off what other people had recommended and was adequately impressed with the drink. They use reusable coffee cups that work excellently with hot drinks so that was also an added bonus. The shop itself does not house a ton of space but I still had enough space to use my laptop and also have room for my book and coffee. From the outside, this place almost seems to be hidden as there is no signage or other revealing details. The bar positioned near the front of the shop seems like the best place to drink your coffee as it seemingly connects with the bustling, outside activity in Encinitas. Nothing about this coffee shop blew me away but I'm hoping to come back and try their other coffees. I love it when a new independent coffee roaster and shop pops up in and starts doing what they do best: coffee. I stopped in and not only had a great Americano, but a wonder cinnamon pecan crumble, similar to a scone, from a local baker. The Americano they made was rich and robust in flavor, and smooth for the most part, except for a slight sourness towards the end. Its aroma was terrific and after two weeks without having one, it was quite the treat. The cinnamon pecan crumble was great and they did not hold back on the crunchy tasty pecans. The crumble, did have a resemblance to a scone, but it was a little more crumbly then one. it was mildly dense with a good moisture level. The amount of cinnamon flavor was just right. These guys who own and work here are quite down to earth and they know there coffees, so you can not go wrong here. read more

5 stars all the way for Ironsmith Coffee. This little coffee joint is absolutely delicious and gives you the small locally owned coffee shop vibe with a bit of hipster. The place itself is really small but located in a perfect location and the seating layout is actually quite functional. The product served is literally what takes the cake though, the coffee/tea is really difficult to describe as this is probably the smoothest coffee you will ever drink. I mean the beans are literally roasted to Perfection and the mocha is too die for. The tea is also made very nicely with my preference being the white tea with hints of coconut. Overall, Ironsmith IMHO Ironsmith is one of the top coffee joints in north county, perhaps even San Diego county. This is a cute, but small coffee shop in Encinitas. When we first arrived we saw that the line was out the door so we figured it must be good and we wanted to try it. After waiting in line for about 10 minutes and now standing at the door we could see that yes they were busy, but the staff is also on the slower side. They had 3 employees working in a relatively small space, but they didn't seem to communicate with each other so things didn't seem to be running smoothly. From the time we placed our order to the time we got our full order was about 15 minutes. I ordered a spiced chai with oat milk (delicious) and a cold brew for my boyfriend. Since we got his drink right when we ordered he had pretty much finished his drink by the time I got my chai. Since we had some time while waiting for my chai we saw that other customers were having to remind the staff that they ordered 2 drinks and only received one, the drink was suppose to be hot not iced, or they ordered a pastry and had still not received it. Normally this place carries oat milk (which is amazing) but they were out of it when I stopped by, so I subbed out for almond milk and it was one of the best chai lattes I've ever had! I also got the olive oil toast. The portion was unfortunately small for the price but the flavor was AMAZING! the olive oil has Za'atar seasoning (a middle eastern season) and it paired so well with the whole grain toast. I got little pockets of sea salt flavor bursts and I was truly satisfied with my sweet drink and savory meal! Terrible experience here. My husband got a mocha that didn't even look like it had ANY espresso in it. Looked like chocolate milk and tasted like... I don't even know what... maybe the soot that stained my shoes when I sat on their bench? I ordered cold brew with oat milk and syrup and there was def zero syrup in it. The baristas were more concerned with their friend who came to visit them than getting our order right and making drinks properly. Mostly because it seems like trying to find parking anywhere in this area seems almost impossible on a busy day, although this location is so nice because it's so close to the water, giving the area a good vibe overall. Look for the blue building, because they don't have a big sign that reads Ironsmith Coffee Roasters on it. The layout of the store is a bit small, it's bar seating, and not a lot of them. The overall sizing is pretty narrow, but still has a nice casual vibe to it. There's limited outdoor seating as well. Their menu is pretty standard for a coffee shop, though they do have tea lattes as well that I'm starting to really enjoy. I opted for their barista's special (iced coffee + milk + vanilla syrup), and it was pretty fragrant! I think they used cold brew for their ice coffee, at least that's what it tasted like. It definitely got me jittery throughout the day, and iced coffee drinks don't normally do that to me. I'm glad I got a chance to try this place. It's still going to be a grab and go type of place for me, I don't know if this is a place I would ever sit down and enjoy my coffee then and there. read more

The bathroom was a disaster (although open, yeah!), they had no napkins and the coffee was just so-so. I will say they were better than Philz just down the road a bit. Just had the best maple butter toast! My husband and I ventured out to try this place and fell in love! We had the Guatemalan coffee (free refills is a big thumbs up), maple butter toast and almond butter toast. Everything was delicious! Great customer service! I was a few minutes early for a meeting that was taking place down the street so I convinced myself that a cup of coffee was a good idea. Don't get me wrong, I walked by the 7-11 and thought about the quick/cheap fix but there is something really special about charm of a local coffee shop. Ironsmith is no exception! "I'll take a medium cup of black coffee," I said. The barista quickly jumped into action with options and descriptions of each. I believe I opted for the Ethiopian blend but in all honesty I put my fate into the trusty and capable hands of the man behind the counter. I saw several funny things on my laptop/people watching session recently, including a skateboarder busting his ass trying to jump a curb and a guy totally hitting on a hot girl only to get shot down...HARD. Aside from the entertainment I witnessed, the coffee here is really good though too. Robust flavor and stronger than most, I'd definitely put it towards the top of the list out of all the options in Encinitas. Seating is limited, but if you're lucky enough to grab a spot they open the front doors. That's the spot you want. Food is limited, but they do have a couple of pastries that said hot girl from above seemed to be enjoying before that dude made her lose her appetite.
