Food was very good and staff was friendly. Coming from The service industry, I really appreciate that the whole staff pitches in on the floor. For a holiday weekend the service was quicker than would be expected. We had a show at the Paramount and made reservations for 2 hours before and was able to make it there with plenty of time to spare. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food. We will def be back because there were so many things on the menu we wanted to try. The maduros were probably the best we ever had and we just moved up here for Queens a little over a year ago so we have had them at a lot of places. read more

i had no issues with staff except the manager the daughter of the owner. Bryant and Douglas were wonderful, drinks were delicious and service was fine until the manager showed up and made everyone in my party feel uncomfortable because not everyone showed up. Saying that because of us she is losing business. 3 people in our party didn't show up due to covid and she charged us 20 per person without telling us that was part of their policy. Our waiter barely came over to see if we needed anything so anytime we wanted another drink, we had to flag him down. If they got the service together, this would be a definite recommendation. I admit I was a little worried when we first walked in and looked at the menu. I didn't see too many options that I wanted to try and the cocktail menu was a bit confusing. (What is a strawberry shrub and how does it work in a drink? LOL) I almost suggested we go elsewhere, but we'd made reservations and were going to the Paramount and I was not wanting to tackle the dinner crowd on a Friday night. Decided to order a Cosmo to keep it simple and was pleasantly surprised at how great the Cosmo was! I was also impressed at how quick our waitress was to run over and offer me a refill as soon as she saw me getting low. I ordered the hummus and maduros (sweet yellow plantains) as well as an avocado salad with shrimp. EVERYTHING was delicious! The maduros were perfect, the hummus platter was one of the best I've ever had and the chickpeas on the side with the pickled onions were so tasty. Loved the service and the look of the place. It was a little humid where we were seated, but probably because we were too close to the door. HOWEVER, I definitely plan to be back for Cosmos and Maduros! We tried to go in the other day around 4:30 not knowing they closed at 5pm since Yelp advertises it to be opened until 10pm and we're quickly turned away. Wow so I don't know where to start, my family and I were looking for a place to eat. This place seemed pretty descent to eat, especially we have children. The server came and ask for our drinks. We ordered our food. I order the grilled octopus and the chorizo croquetas. Wings for the table, seafood dish, and two burgers for the family. I ordered a grilled chicken and avocado for the toddler. We waited and waited and waited literally. Not even the food for the kids, we waited like 40 minutes for food. Two burgers came out first and the fries were cold. They didn't even offer ketchup. Then 9 minutes later octopus came out and it was cold also and salty. Poor quality. Then the wings and they were not good at all, like wow. My mom ate the seafood dish, she didn't like it either it was so bland. Then they forgot the croquetas and I kindly asked our server who never came back to the table, I happened to catch him and said I never got my croquetas. He didn't apologize and I spoke to a lady with blonde hair and said I'm waiting for this item. 20 minutes later finally it came out. Omg it was so bad and undercooked, no flavor. I asked for the check and we asked to split it 3 cards, the lady came and took our cards and another 25 minutes we waited and they swiped all the cards wrong. Went back with high (probably too high) expectations (see my previous Yelp review). Unfortunately, second time around was not as glorious as the first time. They put us upstairs, which was like the poor red headed stepchild to the first born downstairs space. I will be sure to request a downstairs table next time. Latin music was blaring through the speakers. Maybe I am old and cranky, but the frenetic beat and blaring trumpets just doesn't make for pleasant dinner music. However, they were very accommodating when I asked them to turn it down. Second, the food wasn't as good as I remember. We shared a bunch of tapas/appetizers, including the patatas bravas, seafood ceviche, and grilled artichokes (I don't remember what else). Everything was just ok. Bottom line, if you love Spanish/Latin American cuisine, this would be a great choice. It's just not my favorite, as it's heavy and not very interesting to me. Update on my previous review: Ownership has changed and so has everything else. Used to be guaranteed excellent service, food and music every time we came. For whatever reason the new management overhauled the entire experience. We hadn't been there for brunch before but thought we would give it a try. As soon as we walked in we were turned off, due to the incredibly loud club-type music, blasting at 11am on a Sunday!? Waiter seemed OK at first; ordered a Bloody Mary and a Diet Coke. Bloody was watered down tomato juice and mediocre vodka + the usual toppings, and Coke had no carbonation. Wife decided to get a spicy Bloody Mary due to the flat soda, which was slightly better than the regular but had dirty celery. We finished the first round and after 10 minutes of nobody coming over, flagged down the waitress who was the only person somewhat paying attention, for a second round. Bartender (who we thought was our waiter?) was on his phone for another 10 minutes, started to make the drinks and then went back to his phone again before bringing them over. By then our food had arrived - I got Columbian breakfast and wife got crab cake Benedict. Mine was OK at best. Hard to mess up eggs, but nothing special about them. They were served on some type of chocolate arepa (tortilla), which didn't do anything for me. There were flavorless potatoes on the side with some type of mayonnaise sauce...barely touched them. Crab Benedict was supposed to be served in "lobster cream sauce" but it looked like 2 sad little cakes in broth with rather gross looking green sauce on top. Tasted strange, and not the good kind. No sides, $18. Flagged waitress down and by the time the bill came we had our jackets on and were ready to get out of there as quickly as possible. Very disappointing. For excellent Latin food at 1/3 the cost I would recommend "El Bambu" (Guatemalan restaurant on Bank St), and for solid brunch and bloody Marys walk 50 feet past Iron Vine and head into Birdsall House. read more

My wife and I went last night. I read the Yelp reviews and felt good about our choice. The ambiance in the restaurant is relaxed and stylish. We were greeted at the door by Meghan who sat us at our table. She could not have been more welcoming. We ordered our cocktails and she ran down the evenings specials for us in detail. All sounded delicious. My wife ordered the flank steak and it was cooked perfectly to her liking, The potatoes on the plate were huge. A whole potato cut in quarters length wise and roasted. Delicious!! I ordered the Tapas, Pork Empanada and the crab cakes on a bed of hummus as well an avocado salad. Everything was delicious. The service was great and the atmosphere relaxed and casual. We will make this our go to spot in the future. Peekskill is trying so hard to turn it's reputation around. Restaurants like the Iron Vine will go a long way in making this happen. read more

The food is mediocre when it was once very good, and it seems to rely on a cheap branding on everything when it was once understated and stylish. I have no idea why they decided to jettison the very well selected and well thought out decor for dull wall hangings from Home Goods. Obed, our personal host, bartender, server, and everything else, is the greatest person you want to have WHEREVER you dine. He went above and beyond, accommodated to all our requests by the details and executed without fail. The restaurant has a private 2nd floor seatings that is separated from the main floor. I was born and raised three blocks away and I am astounded at how Peekskill has evolved into such a vibrant and delectable town to revisit. After spending nine years in Manhattan, I can honestly say that I am very pleasantly surprised by the Iron Vine fare and ambiance. Decided to write a review after a few visits, so here are my highlights: I really dislike the phrase (and usually the dish it describes), "sweet and savory," but the bacon wrapped dates are really just fabulous. I haven't come across a goat cheese dish I didn't like and this one does not fail. The pecan (?) crunch in the middle just brings them up another notch. The marrow-in-bone veal dish is out of this world. The dish is braised to perfection and that shot of bone marrow to finish off is just ecstasy. There are no words. Just eye-rolling, umami-filled splendor. DO NOT send this plate away until you've beasted that marrow. That's right; Pick it up and slurp down its goodness. Same goes for the short rib (I believe it's a special from Valentine's Day and lately this past week, but should definitely get a permanent seat on the dinner menu). Chef James performs magic with this one. If there is a definition for savory, it is this. ALL of the cocktails. They're very balanced and full of flavor. Owner, Gabriel Arango and team, infuse dozens of vodkas and tequilas to make amazing flavors (try their spicy marg; It's life-changing). As the menu changes pretty often, I think the restaurant has gotten a very good grasp of the top picks. I hope the apple empanadas never leave. I am not a dessert person, but these little made-from-scratch goodies are gems. They're warm and crisp and topped with home-made whipped cream straight from some grass-fed organic cow raised in heaven (Speaking of, does anyone remember that cow in that lot across from Bohlman Towers? My family and I had reservations this evening hoping to have a lovely dinner celebrating what would have been my father's 89th birthday. We had reservations for 6 pm but arrived about 15 minutes early. We were seated promptly and enjoyed a wonderful dinner as usual (I have been to this restaurant numerous times with family and friends). As we were enjoying the last of our drinks, the hostess approached us saying "I don't mean to be rude but I do have people waiting for this table". We were quite surprised as our reservation was for 6 pm and she approached us at 6:55 pm. We had just paid our bill (with cash, leaving a generous tip) before the hostess approached us. We quickly finished our drinks and left the restaurant by 7 pm. While I realize the restaurant business is struggling to recover after the pandemic, I was still shocked by the hostess's behavior. I would certainly understand if we had been sitting there for a long time but less than 60 minutes does not seem to be an unreasonable amount of time for dinner. GREAT addition to Peekskill!!! Right as you walk in, you feel cozy and at home. The decor is great and well thought out. Whoever designed it has a great eye! The beautiful sign outside the restaurant makes the place recognizable and stand out. The food was amazing. The shrimp and squid ceviche was insanely good, you MUST try it. Chicken wings= fabulous (choice of hot sauce or adobo sauce). The potatoes are paired with a homemade ketchup date sauce!?! Brilliant creation. There is a good selection of rotating beers on tap as well as a good sized wine menu, leaving options for everyone. The cocktails were great and the bartender was super friendly. Loved Iron Vine!! Chef and owner Gabriel outdid himself. The place is small but cozy. I loved that he came to our table to tell us about the restaurant, about how he dug up the brick for the wall and how the whole place is made from material from Peekskill. The food... I choose to get the patatas Bravas and empanadas. Wow delish! While Gabriel was speaking with us he even shared how he makes the patatas. Dessert...as my friend cannot eat gluten and we wanted to share we asked for the Granny Smith Apple Empanada made without the shell; They were very accommodating and made us what we needed (also delicious) The service was great everyone is super friendly. We entered Iron Vine with high expectations. The intimate cozy decor of the restaurant gave a very strong first impression on this chilly Peekskill evening. Then we were seated and began our meal.... The early first impression soon vanished as the evening slowly became a disappointing reality. Our starters included two orders of a boring and somewhat tasteless Vegetarian Empanada. The suggested "Avocado Croquetta" Special fared better due primarily to the accompanying spicy dipping sauce. For our main selections the "Hamburguesa Japones" - ground chicken burger - was dry and overcooked. Eating became forced with this selection. Both the "Pollo Relleno" (chicken breast, ham, spinach) and the salmon special were acceptable with the chicken offering being the better of the two. However the recommended "Seafood Platter" -priced high at $32 - was a total failure. The fish arrived dry - the mashed potatoes cold and eating this offering was also a chore - and dangerous as the dry shrimp skewers were difficult to remove resulting in a minor finger stab. Service for the most part was acceptable. The one mistake - no mention was made of the accompanying sauce on the salmon special until the meal actually arrived. Thankfully it wasn't an issue or we may still be there. read more
