Came here while I was visiting nyc. Had the yuzu ramen. It was delicious. Soup base was so flavourful, the only thing I wish was that there were more noodles. Their chicken karaage is one of the best! It's super crispy and I like how I can taste some lemon in it, it made it that much better. The place is cute but I found that the quality of the ramen was not as good as other ramen place. Very expensive ramen I must say, not a lot topping (such as egg, seaweed, etc) in the ramen. This has got to be my favorite ramen in the city. I love the feel of the restaurant, it's cozy but not too small. The staff is always phenomenal, they're not obtrusive, but are there exactly when you need them. But the food...wow, it's amazing. As always we over ordered. We started with the Shishito Peppers, Pork Bun, Edamame, and the Oishii Kara-age (Soy marinated boneless fried chicken with dill and caramellized lemon). The shishitos were flash fried and served with a seasonal salt (which had an acidic bite to it...it was killer). The same salt was served with the edamame (that our five year old couldn't get enough of). The pork bun was decent but not the best I've had (the pork was very thin). The chicken...that was the best of them all, perfectly brined and fried and the lemon squeezed over top took it to the next level. Onto the ramen. Our son has never had it before and as much as we try to expose him to different cuisines, he can be picky. We ordered him the Shiromaru Motoaji, which is a pork tonkotsu with thin noodles, we did order all the toppings on the side. He loved it, and who wouldn't, the tonkotsu is insanely good. My wife went for the Akamaru Shinaj with a Tamago (their marinated soft boiled eggs). The umami paste they put in this one takes their already phenomenal tonkotsu and put's it on the "best meal I've ever eaten list". Since they were ordering the tonkotsu I went for miso on this trip; the Spicy Miso to be exact. It was good (although the spicy tonkotsu is still my favorite). The thick noodles gave the perfect amount of bite and helped make the broth feel more full. I'm not a fan of corn in ramen, but maybe that's because every else I've had it doesn't do it right. The sweetness of the corn was perfect for rounding out the dish. Oh yeah, and I had to do a tamago on mine too. This meal, paired with a carafe of Sake was one of the best I've had in a long time. And the fact that I saw my five year old eat his first bowl of real ramen; this will be something I remember for a long time. Don't go to this Ippudo. Ramen didnt even taste half as good as the Ichiran 2 streets down. Soup was too salty and less rich than Ichiran. Also the portion was so little, its impossible to get full here unless u a literal child. I knew it was a red flag when I came in and asked if I wanted sparkling or water, then whether I wanted that water from a bottle or tap. Bro just give me water! Also $22 for the Akamaru ramen is a scam. That didnt taste better than $14. Ichiran also does $22, but at least I get a unique experience and it was delicious. This is another location of famous chain of Ramen restaurants. Allegedly it is considered the best Ramen in the city. They have same variety of Ramens and appetizers in all locations and everything is delicious. I have ordered their special Ramen with extra pork and wasn't able to finish it as the portions very generous. One thing you should know these restaurants do not allow you to make a reservation, they serve on first come first serve principle. And due to their popularity there is always a line. I had veggie ramen that was 3rd on menu and comes with spice on side, it tasted good after adding all the spice but i felt quantity of broth was little lesser than other place i had ramen at. i used to enjoy this place, but prices have increased significantly for mediocre small portions of ramen. my partner and i were not impressed by the food or service. noodles were also undercooked, and when we raised this to the server they tried to make it out like it was our fault. we left a tip appropriate for the level of service and were then chased down by another member of staff and verbally assaulted for not tipping them sufficiently. never in our lives have we ever experienced this level of entitlement. please do yourselves a favor and go literally anywhere else - your neighborhood mcdonalds has better service. read more

Ippudo has been one of my favorites since it was only the east village location and they didn't take reservations. It has changed a lot, BUT what doesn't seem to change is the taste & quality of their dishes as well as their stellar service. The ambiance of this location is a lot more open and airy than the original. The original has a very authentic Japan ramen shop feel. But it's still a great spot! I love that they have this westside location! So convenient for us westsiders & Jersians. Now I think it's time for them to open a location in Hoboken or JC or even Weehawken, down by port imperial. read more

Fantastic ramen! I recommend the spicy ramen, no adds are needed, the way it comes is PERFECT. The spicy bolognese mixture is to die for mixed into the noodles and broth - YUM. We also got the seasonal cocktail which was perfection during Christmas time. We walked in after our Broadway show, waited about 20 minutes, and had fantastic service. Felt like being back in Japan. The noodles were al dente, if I may use this term with Japanese food. The red sauce adds another element to the bowl. That pork belly is unctuous. Now the karaage, I had to use my hands/fingers. It's appropriate when eating fried chicken, right? It was 2 chicken thighs cut in half thus 4 pieces. Perfectly cooked. The seasoning and coating is delicious. The restroom is beyond the black saloon doors. 3 restrooms: unisex, woman and man. A rare heavy-handed criticism from a ramen lover. 3/5 (after 3 visits) - If you're considering it, you should try Totto first. Now, onto my experience: I had the Miso Ramen: Noodles tasted like spaghetti - I don't encounter this often but it was not fun. I felt the broth had a distinct 'western taste' - didn't finish it and didn't taste much miso either. It was fairly oily too, and basically just felt like someone took spaghetti and more or less made ramen with it. The chashu was forgettable and could have been seared or something to add some texture to an otherwise rather boring dish that felt like a chore to finish. My friend had a spicy bowl, which I think was much better broth wise and maybe the wavy noodles are actually better than the thin straight noodles that I've come to love from other joints that seem much more authentic and intense. Aesthetically, Ippudo looks great and is always a treat to sit inside of, love the decor and it generally is a nice atmosphere, but honestly I wouldn't go again. This is actually my third time visiting an Ippudo in NYC and it has let me down time and time again. I think it just not my style - and I don't think I can recommend it in good faith. read more

I had been wanting to try Ippudo because of the hype over the years. For a Saturday lunch, the restaurant was almost full and was very loud. The service was nothing special. Unfortunately, my experience did not live up to the hype or price. I got the Karaka Spicy ramen which was good, but not worth the $20+ before adding on an egg. The marinated egg was also not that flavorful. I also tried the Akamaru Shinaji which was the most disappointing. I don't know if this was missing any salty components but it just completely lacked depth and flavor. The last time I was here, I came in on a Sunday for an early dinner after a matinee Broadway show and was seated right away for two. Started with the cucumbers. I'm generally not a fan of cucumbers but I will eat cucumbers like this all day, every day. For a cocktail, I had the plum win cocktail, which I knew would be sweet.
