This spot was pretty small and tight compared to other Ippudos in NYC. Service here was a little hectic due to how crowded it was when I got there. Food was pretty good ramen. I had the mandala miso and that was solid. Portions are on the smaller side so you probably need to order Gyozas or extra toppings/ramen noodles to add to your soup. So our family had a little tradition when we travel and that is to visit Ippudo in every city that has one. It started in Japan and has now become a mission as we travel around the continental U.S. It has been cold in New York dying our visit so a hot bowl of ramen was just what the family wanted. A mere minutes away from The Muse hotel on 46th street, we were able to walk right in close to 9:00 p.m. and were met by a warm and friendly server. We enjoyed all of our favorites and a couple of cold beers. Great service, a welcoming atmosphere and delicious bowls of ramen goodness. Good flavors overall but pricey and took a little long to get our food. I got the Akamaru ramen, and my friends got the fried chicken rice bowl and the chasu rice bowl. Everything was very good but I felt that the ramen wasn't as big of a portion as other places (?). I think this location doesn't have as big of a menu as other locations just FYI. Ippudo is a popular ramen chain from Japan with locations worldwide. I was also at their East Village location over 10 years ago. That location is much bigger and has a much fancier looking decor than this one. The food here was still excellent though. We ordered a large variety of appetizers in addition to our bowls of ramen. For the appetizers, the truffle fries and the takoyaki (fried octopus balls) stood out as the best ones to me. They were both very flavorful and fresh. Ramen was top notch too as expected. Their broth is well seasoned and their bowls come with lots of tasty toppings. Keep in mind that their prices are a little high compared to other places, which is definitely just because of their popularity. We were looking for a ramen place around Rockefeller center and thought of Ippudo on 4th street!! I can't believe they have one store so close to Rockefeller center so we went before 12pm, expecting to be a line out the door... but your surprise, there's no line!! It's pretty empty inside with maybe 2 parties.. the feel is different than the one on 4th, this place is a little more quiet and calm.. not as rushed and we can sit and relax and enjoy our food.. we ordered 1 dragon tan tan, and 1 shiromaru classic.. I have to say I LOVE the dragon tan tan!! The spice in the soup is so good!! The noodle is nice and chewy!! But I d wish they have more meat!! As for the shiromaru classic, good rich broth.. a little on the mild side.. do wish they come with an egg (or half an egg)... portion do seem a little small.. other wise it was awesome!!! I remember the crazy wait with the original ippudo location and actually did not know there were more locations until today when we were in the area. We went early around 11:30am and was happy there was no wait. I was a little disappointed at first, the decor was not as cool as the original and also seems like the presentation of the ramen was not as good. But things changed when we started eating. The noodle is amazing and the broth is even better. We so enjoy the tantan sesame broth. My only gripe is, for $23, at least give me half an egg, also they chopped up the meat for the dragon tantan so it doesn't feel like there's that much meat. I was meeting a friend nearby for a show and we needed a spot for a quick dinner. We arrived around 5:30PM and managed to snag two seats at the bar in the back. Not the best for a chat, but it worked well enough. I had the Shiromaru Classic ramen with an egg, which was fantastic. The ramen was cooked well and the broth was good. We split the Matcha Tiramisu for dessert, which was not great. It was really heavy on the matcha powder, which wasn't the best quality. It made the entire dessert entirely too bitter. I came here on a Friday night for a quick bite, the ambiance was nice, dim-lighting, very lively. The service was also great, everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I ordered the takoyaki and was initially a bit surprised that it was a bit different from what I have had before (no bonito flakes as topping) but it was still pretty good. The exterior was crispy but the center was still a bit runny with wet batter. It was served very hot and there were lots of octopus chunks in each ball which I appreciate. I ordered the miso ramen and it was too salty for my liking. The noodles were the perfect texture though and I loved the toppings. Maybe I should've ordered the tonkatsu ramen (more popular option). Service: Service was fine/as expected, staff were friendly. They yell in Japanese welcoming you into the restaurant. Food comes out pretty quick. Food: Perhaps the bowl used is deceiving, but when it arrives it seems like there isnt much food given as there is a large gap from the rim of the bowl to where the broth is. The broths were flavorful but oily. For Akamaru, they give you 2 slices of meat which is sliced like the width of deli meat. The meat itself was nothing special, it wasn't chewy but also not melt in your mouth. But from what I detected it seems like they season their meat separately. For Yuzu Shoyu, the broth was interesting as I've never had Yuzu Shoyu before. The chicken was white meat but- not dry, not super tender. You also have to pay extra for extra toppings. If they gave a bigger portion or a couple more toppings in each bowl I think that would be good. Ambiance: The places was small but had a nice wooden interior. The front of the restaurant seemed like a waiting area but could be used for dining. You are able to sit at the 'bar. Their menu is on a wooden block which might be hard to scan if the phone can't register it. Overall, for the price of the meal and the amount you get, it's not worth in my opinion. However, I will say that if you're looking for a quicker sit down meal where you can get your food quick, eat, and leave then ippudo would be a good choice. read more

Formerly hyped to within an inch of its life, Ippudo was one of the first big-deal ramen places in NYC. Years later, the tide of fashion has mostly washed over it and onward, although we still had to wait 25 minutes at 5 pm on a Saturday for a table in Ippudo's no-frills, no-reservations dining room. The broth of the daizu no chikara miso ramen achieved the wonderfully oily, creamy consistency I love, and the thick wavy noodles were the perfect texture and diameter for chewing. The flavor was good but not as deep as I was hoping for. I was less impressed with the tofu and vegetables, the latter of which had seemingly received little care before being tossed in. It added up to a very competent bowl of ramen that meets a New Yorker's exacting bar for good enough. Nowadays, neighborhood ramen spots that match Ippudo's ambiance and quality are a dime a dozen. Good ramen with chewy noodles and smooth, flavorful broth. The protein was a little sparse in both my Dragon Tantan and my friend's Karaka Spicy, but both dishes were tasty and filling nonetheless. These are midtown Manhattan ramen prices ($23/$24 with no egg), so more than you'd pay uptown or in an outerborough, but pretty standard for the neighborhood. As a note, if you walk-in, you have approx. 60 minutes before you'll need to clear the table. The ramen comes out very quickly though, so you should have plenty of meal time. read more

A few up-front seating for solo, and towards the back low bar seating for solo slurpers. The decor & ambiance is minimalistic. Probably caters to the midtown biz peeps. Service is standard, menu via QR code but server will take your order. Food comes out fast. Had my usual Akamaru (the red bowl). Broth is just as good as I remember it but the char siu looks different... it looks more like a slice ham vs. the sliced pork belly. I don't love it. Added my egg - perfecto. I tried their spicy gyoza... this steamed dumpling... has numbing chili oil... so now you know. Pretty good but still prefer the crispy kind. The one thing that threw me off... the restroom is in the middle of the elongated space... so anyone seated in the middle will get a whiff of the unpleasant odor... I was not a fan. The menu clearly advertised free extra noodles with ramen, so after ordering two classic ramen bowls, we asked the server about the promotion. From the moment we mentioned the free noodles, the interaction became uncomfortable. The server repeatedly emphasized, multiple times, that the noodles could not be shared and were for one person only. We understood the rule the first time, but the repeated reminders felt unnecessarily impolite and made us feel uncomfortable as customers. After my husband finished his ramen, he requested the free extra noodles for his own bowl. At that point, the server again asked whether he had finished his noodles and once more emphasized that the extra noodles could not be shared. By then, it honestly felt excessive. We were dining with two young daughters, yet a promotion worth around $3 was treated in a way that made us feel awkward for simply using something advertised on the menu. We completely understand restaurant policies. But if a restaurant chooses to offer a promotion, customers should not be made to feel uncomfortable or judged for using it. As you enter, Ippudo has a small vestibule for waiting. I got there as a party of 2 at 5pm on a Thursday, checked in for a 10 min wait and was seated before that. Tables are shared with other diners and there's a cozy vibe with upbeat music. I got a yuzu martini ($17) and it was tart and lemony. Servers are friendly and on the ball with water refills. Our appetizer came out very quickly. The veggie bao buns ($6 each) had lightly breaded mushroom with a mix of sauces. The nirvana classic ramen ($23) was amazing with a coconut milk and mushroom broth, shredded carrots, and fried onions. I've never had anything like it. I really wish I had a chance to get another bowl before my trip was over! $3 is a bit wild for the Tamago (soft boiled egg added to ramen), but it's so delicious I didn't care. read more

I have been coming to Ippudo for years but not have been privy to this location. The ladies at Ippudo 5th gave me a different grade of chashu for my Akamaru and insisted it was the right meat. I ordered the AKAMARU SHINAJI which includes Pork tonkotsu broth, Hakata thin noodles, PORK BELLY CHASHU, Ippudo's original "Umami " paste, etc. this location gave me slow cooked pork loin chashu instead. I had to discuss with them twice that it was indeed the wrong quality of meat and showed numerous pictures of the same meal ordered in the past. I knew exactly that it was the slow cooked pork loin chashu when I first looked at it. The women still insisted but tried to brush it off complaining that they changed their menu and don't include the chasu anymore. This indeed was not reflected in the menu, nor mentioned beforehand and I do not like how they LIED about that! If it wasn't for me eating at Ippudo ALL the time, I wouldn't give them the benefit of the doubt. Upon receiving my ramen...it was lukewarm and no where close to hot! Very disappointing! Tried the pork buns at happy hour price of 2 for $10, takoyaki appetizer and the akamaru ramen. There was a steady flow of people in and out, as food is quick. Ambiance is more casual. I was seated at a bar like area, but there is also regular table seating. The pork bun was flavorful and moist, and the mayo was not overpowering. Takoyaki was very tasty and had generous amount of squid inside without being overly doughy. The Akamura ramen was pork, bamboo shoots, scallions and umami paste. It was good and filling. THE TIME HAD COME. Ichiran vs Ippudo smackdown showdown! My friend swore up and down this was the best ramen spot he ever had and he had me come with him on his birthday. Now, I am a hardcore stan for Ichiran so it is hard to convince me ramen anywhere else is better in the US (in Japan I had the best ramen of my life but that's a different story). ANYWAYYY, Ippudo. He got me to come through and finally try the ramen here. I ordered the Chicken Shio because he said it's the best Shio ramen he's ever had. And I've got to say...he was right. Holy ****. That was the tenderest chicken in ramen I've ever had, and I've had many loser chicken Shios in the past. My favorite type of ramen is Tonkotsu so I guess a true apple-to-apples test is having Ippudo's tonkotsu to compare to Ichiran's tonkotsu, but damn, I've gotta say, Ippudo all 5 stars are deserved. The only thing I'd say is I wish there was more chicken in that ramen cause I could have def gone for more of it. I will also say--it was the "fishiest-tasting" shio I've ever had so beware if you're not a fan. But overall, I need and will go back to Ippudo. Restaurant ambiance is great, service was good, but man, the ramen is definitely worth many a return visits. You can order a drink or a snack while waiting for dine in service. No luck for take out patrons. Ordered the miso ramen has a flavorful broth with a creamy texture. The chasui was okay. A little chewy, cold and under whelming this time around. Not what I was expecting from Ippudo. The shoyu ramen has a light broth but I like the miso more.
