An alright sushi spot but nothing anyone should be running out to go try if they're in the mood for sushi in my opinion. We've been here twice now and both times service tends to be very slow, and quite frankly the sushi is just average. The first time they had no uni, and the second time they were completely out of toro which we love. Not bad sushi, but nothing to write home about either. If you're going with a large group and someone isn't a huge fan of sushi in general, this place should work because they have a massive menu with all sorts of dinner options. For those who do plan on going and are driving, I'll caution that parking is a very real challenge here with it being so close to Woodward and Ferndales' notorious lack of parking. read more

I'd like to give this place more stars, but we had such a disappointing evening here after trying to use our Groupon voucher. My husband and I went for his birthday and it really made the rest of the evening sour. I can count on one hand how many times I've asked to speak to a manager, and I'm not sure why I bothered, because she ultimately told us "go ahead and call Groupon and request a refund, they're good about that" instead of just fixing the issue. Long story short, don't try using the Groupon during happy hour to avoid any confusion. The fine print does not match what we were told, which is why I am so mad. We spent above and beyond the $50 not including happy hour items, but were not allowed to use our voucher regardless. The sushi was great but we will never return after our experience. Now I see what the rave is all about. This sushi place is delicious. If you come here you must order the miso soup. I promise you will not be let down. My friend and I ordered the California Roll, Dynamite roll and some other roll I sadly can't remember the name of. My favorite roll from here has to be the dynamite roll. However it was all good. Been here for both lunch and dinner, and it was just fine. Lunch was better organized and had better service (likely because it's far less busy). The best part is the furniture -- the tall, dark wooden booths and the lighting. For dinner, our hostess, whose job it is to seat us, forgot to seat us. Add to that the confusing backdoor entrance, and my first experience didn't get off to a good start. The sushi was passable, doused by the spicy mayo sauce. The place would have gotten 5 stars but when you order the bento box they do not allow any substitutions and I am not a big fan of salmon. Ok so I kind of read some of the other reviews but not really, so here goes my take on this place: I got a groupon for this place, so I don't think it was terribly expensive. If I were to order the same stuff without it, it would have been pricey. It was a Sunday afternoon and hardly anyone was there (score!). We started off with bottomless mix and match mimosas which are $15. I thought it was pretty cool that it was mix and match. The apple and thai sangrias are really good, and my friend liked the mimosa. We had a big breakfast and were drinking so we weren't terribly hungry, so we ordered the jalepeno calamari to start off with. You definitely need to be okay with spicy, but these were amazing!!!! Not really breaded but had fresh salad and slightly sauteed peppers and onions in them. AHH soo good. I will never look at calamari the same way again. We ordered the lemongrass chicken with brown rice to split between the two of us. There were two chicken breasts that were quite juicy and light. Perfect for our drinks! There were plenty of veggies and rice to split and we were both satisfied. Our waitress was super nice and was great. The music was also pretty awesome. A night of fine dining to remember... We had their June omakase dinner for two... The courses from first to final were all delicious and very well presented in an elegant fine dining way... Inyo has the modern look down. It's modern motif sets the stage for nicely presented plates. Both dishes arrived presented beautifully and artistically. I have never seen the potion for Spicy Seaweed Salad, so now is the time to try it. I wish there would have been more, the portion size was small. It did have some heat to it. Some places like to say something is spicy without delivering the impact. There was enough to let you know they do use some spices. Be prepared, you really only taste the spicy sauce and not the traditional seaweed salad flavor. The Eel, Asparagus, Avocado Roll taste fresh and prepared well. It had a nice balance of texture with the softness of the eel and avocado while having a healthy crunch from the asparagus. It's nice to have the crunch from a vegetable to be healthier than from tempura. Even though everyone knows that tempura is freaking delicious. I had my first opportunity to try Wasabi Tobiko (green roe). The Spicy Tuna Roll was also a good roll to have. It didn't blow my socks off, but it wasn't bad. When I leave a one star review, it is most assuringly for a concerning issue. Inyo, by far, is also most assuringly one of the worst staffed and crooked restaurants I've yet to eat at. On my way to this restaurant I was nothing but excited. The reviews were great, the food looked appetizing, and it seemed the people eating there left happy. Unfortunately for me, I wasn't as lucky. I found a coupon for this restaurant on an app called Groupon that allowed you to buy $50 worth of food for $25. What a steal right?! So we arrive at the restaurant, wait for a table for about a few minutes before a host finally comes to the stand. She was friendly but I asked her multiple questions about the Groupon deal and all of her answers ended up being false in the end... Our waitress seats us and seems rather friendly. We explained to the waitress how we would be separate checks and both parties had a coupon for the deal.... While it took her a little too long before she took our order she was still nice and that was enough for me to still have an enjoyable experience. The food was honestly extremely good. The calamari was perfectly cooked, the sushi was fresh, and everyone enjoyed their meal. But I'm not gonna go into detail because the service in the end ruined everything. As we finished our food and we're ready to pay our bills we again mentioned our Groupon. The waitress rudely apologized that only one Groupon could be used per party. We again explained to her that in the beginning we had two parties and she knew we both had them. She explained how she put us as one table and once it was in the system there was nothing she could do about it. I asked to speak to the manager and she informed me she was the manager. She began to get angry and in my face and her attitude went from friendly to disgusting. Everyone at our table was appalled and obviously upset. As she continued to get more and more rude I asked to speak to her manager and she informed me he wasn't there. Well that wasn't good enough for me and I wanted to speak to whoever would take care of the mess she made. Well, guess what. No one did anything! I even tried to call a manager at another Inyo location to see if there was something someone could do to fix the problem. The owner told both managers no and that he put the rules on the Groupon, and if we still had a problem they would call the police. The waitress then informed us that if we didn't pay it would come out of her paycheck. Whoever the owner of this business in has no moral or respect clearly for his customers OR his employees... We knew one Groupon could be used per party and we told her we both had one and would be separate checks. This business is a scam and the owner is corrupt. I saw a message the owner left to another reviewer and it is clear to me he doesn't care about keeping customers, just their money. (Check out the photo I left) I will never eat at this restaurant again, and forewarning if you still decide to eat there. I truly hope your experience is better than mine. read more

I came here for my birthday with some friends and we were all hungry for some good sushi. I liked the atmosphere/vibe a lot upon entering. The menu was pretty extensive and I believe included many non sushi items. I got a lo-mein type dish as a starter that was very good. My boyfriend and I split a few different sushi rolls-- wish I could remember the names but I loved them all! My friends were satisfied as well and shared pieces of their rolls which I liked just as much. My only complaint is one of our friends had to sit and watch us start eating as he waited for his food which stunk. This was his first sushi experience so the rolls with grilled chicken were perfect. I tried the tempura shrimp roll. It was delicious & filled with giant shrimp! We had Asian vegetables and fried rice. Which is served in portions large enough to share. All of the food was well seasoned and tasty. I had to add $4 to the Groupon price of only $10. Not bad. I have never felt so incredibly misled, or been so disappointed by a restaurant, that I felt compelled to leave a review. I came here with my sibling yesterday evening for a sort of celebration as they will soon be heading off to college. We were both incredibly excited by the menu we saw online and intended to order and share a large selection of appetizers and sushi. Waitstaff seemed stressed or inexperienced, but the place didn't seem that busy. As someone who has worked in the service industry, I understand that the capacity of the restaurant isn't always the whole story so I let it go, and proceeded with understanding and kindness. I ordered hot green tea, and this should've been my first warning, as it came cold - not even luke-warm. Again, having worked in the industry I let it go, thinking maybe they're busier than they look, and I know how poor those hot water dispensers can be. Cold tea is still tea. Now I wish I'd taken that as a sign of what was to come. We started with appetizers. The ahi tuna tacos were a nice portion, but they were virtually flavorless and I had a hard time finding much besides unseasoned ahi in the tacos. We ordered the ebi shu mai. Again, lackluster and flavorless and tiny; though the broth was okay, the dumpling seemed like something you'd get out of a freezer at GFS. The kaiso salad and the age dashi tofu were fine, though I have had better at other restaurants. At this point, I'm pretty disappointed, but we proceed to order and I am trying to be optimistic. It was our mistake to order one of the most expensive sushi rolls on the menu - the Inyo 2.0. I guess, at $25 and having been to many a sushi restaurant, I expected something somewhat substantial and if nothing else visually appealing, but this was neither of those things. These were 6 or 8 quarter sized, bland looking pieces of sushi - I regret not taking pictures to attach to this review. They were said to contain king crab, if they did it was very hard to find, as was the mango. I should have dissected it but by this point I am just trying to enjoy my sibling's company and our celebration and forget my increasing dissatisfaction and disappointment. My sibling was still pretty hungry after all of this, so they ordered an entree - the ginger chicken, which was a decent serving and the taste was fine. I, not wanting to spend any more money than I already was, ordered a cup of hot and sour and some veggie rolls, they were both incredibly mediocre, as I expected by this point. All in all, this was a terrible experience. I genuinely feel scammed, or at the very least incredibly misled and overcharged. In the end, it is my mistake for not having left sooner and proceeding to order and eat every underwhelming item we received. I cannot understand how it has so many wonderful reviews - Are Monday's just a bad day? Did COVID destroy what this restaurant once was? I paid my sizable bill and still left a 20% tip and walked away with much regret, wishing we'd left after those first disappointing appetizers. The one star is due to a serious lack in quality and value for the price. The sushi and sashimi is priced by the single piece. And not only does the price fail to match the amount served, but the quality is drastically lacking as well. A single meal ran me about $120, and I was no where near full after the meal. If you are looking to have a meal, go somewhere else first. The drinks were average at best, and the sake menu was lacking. The atmosphere was mediocre and extremely loud. The only thing Inyo got right was the service. Our server was prompt and attentive. Mixed feelings about Inyo. Due to its proximity, I find myself stopping by more often than I'd like. The food is solidly "good" but not outstanding and a tad over-priced. Speaking of... if you order lettuce wraps, you get a shooter glass with a handful of butter or bib lettuce leaves sort of fanned out of it. Need more lettuce? Or maybe a few leaves fell on the floor when your server put down the plate? It'll cost ya an extra $3. The last time we went, we split a large entree. The weird part was they apparently only have extra larger serving plates, and mini side plates, and they couldn't quite figure out the happy-medium solution where we could split an entree and fit plates on the table. The server was a good sport - apologetic and nice. But he seemed to agree on exactly what was lacking. Also, it's unusually dim and cold in there at all hours of the day. The menu doesn't explicitly have vegan options, but you can make it work by swapping the meat for tofu in most of the entrees. (But, paying for the meat so keep that in mind.) The lady who sat us was absolutely rude, didn't want to stop what she was doing to even great us/ looked like we were wasting her time. The actual service from the server was great. We ate and then found out they won't take a debit card(an actual form of payment) without a chip (which is what I have) nor Apple Pay. When the same lady that was up front (I assumed she was the host based on her attire and her attitude) informed us of this she was so rude like we were trying to skip out on the bill, it definitely could have been approached in a better way. One of us stayed while I went and got cash to pay the bill, when I came back I was told by her she was the manager, which completely shocked me because of the way she approached the whole billing system. I genuinely didn't believe her because of the way she not only acted but dressed, I even asked the guy up at the stand who actually was a host. They are loud, obnoxious, and ruin everyone's meal around them because they are screaming at each other. Now they get pissed and fight with the manager about 18% tacked on to their bill. Should they A. Give up and walk out like ladies B. Make a scene at the bar Oh well let me tell you, apparently if you act obnoxious, loud, and rude in a restaurant you get the 18% gratuity taken off and then thankfully asked to leave. The place was pretty low key, no wait. It took our server forever to show up and great us. The sushi we ordered took a long time to get to is too, what I would expect for a busy weekend. While we were waiting the server brought place settings and a mostly empty (visibly dirty) soy sauce carafe. For some reason he brought a second set of settings later, while we were still waiting for food to show up. We asked for more soy sauce when the food came. He refilled the same carafe and may have made an attempt to clean it, but was not successful. We were mostly done with food when he checked on us (to be fair we ate quickly), and then disappeared while we sat there waiting for the check. Food: Absolutely nothing special. It was edible, I'm full. We ordered 2 pieces of salmon nigiri, a rainbow roll, a spicy lady roll, a spicy salmon roll, and a yellow tail roll. The spicy salmon roll was really spicy. This place has a wonderful atmosphere to start. It is very trendy and dark inside with great decor. They nailed the asian fusion design perfectly. We started off at the bar while waiting for our table and had a couple drinks. A lot of the drinks have elderflower, lychee, peach, and unique fruit flavors in them. The majority of the drinks are very refreshing and crisp! Highly recommended! The food is delicious from the appetizers to the main course. We had the edamame and the beef maki mono (beef rolls). We had the sushi and the chicken katsu entree which is delicious! The service was pretty good, it was a little slow but they seemed very busy. Definitely will come back again for this place. I've come here a few times and it's usually a little slow but today was just absolutely abysmal. When we sat down at the table the waitress we had greeted us by telling us her name and that she's usually behind the bar but today she's waiting tables. Kind of an odd greeting but we didn't think anything of it. She then told us that she had a large party she was serving and that communication was gonna be key. I've worked in retail most of my life, so I can definitely understand and appreciate the sentiment. We told her we needed just a moment to order and she said "great" then walked away. We decided what we wanted about 5 minutes but she was no where to be found. So we waited... and waited... and waited. We tried to flag her down a few times as she went past but it seems like she never saw us or just chose not to. 20 minutes go by and we finally have enough and go up to the bar. We sit down the bartender greets us. He eventually figured out that we had moved from a table and becomes visibly annoyed. We tell him we're ready to order and he asks for a couple minutes. We then watch him wander around, clean some glasses, wipe down the bar, and take another persons drink order. After about 30 minutes total of waiting we finally get our food order in. I can understand and empathize with being busy. But if you have a table that large and you can't manage it, don't try to take other tables. There are plenty of other waiters in the restaurant, it's not that large and I counted at least 4 others kinda meandering around.
