I will never come back to this restaurant EVER. I didnt like a certain roll because of what was ontop of the roll. The server told me after it was ordered that she couldn't take it off the bill. Which is something she should of said before I modified my roll. The manager came of rudly & with a smart mouth staing she told me that but the server did not tell me until after my food was ordered IF you guys have certain rules that should be explained when your placing the order. It upset me so bad when the manger rudely explained the rules & yes I will make it a race thing because no matter what you are supposed to make sure your customer leaves satisfied. My bill was 91.16 I gave 101.26 to get 10.10 back the waitress gave me back all singles & pennies; I will never patronize this business if my life depended on it. If staff and management wants to be petty so can I. She asked me if I wanted boxes I didnt want a thing else from this place they are all about money clearly and not making the customer happy. Service was a bit too slow with getting our finished dishes removed, getting our check and takeout box. We got to sit in the patio which was beautiful. They plate their food so beautifully which I always appreciate. I enjoyed their spicy scallop roll, you can actually taste the spice from the spicy mayo and the scallops were super fresh and just melted in your mouth. Probably one of my favorites because of how soft the scallops were (it is raw). Their katsu curry was more of a stew to me (the curry part) though it's probably the second best katsu curry I had so far since most places don't make an actual curry and it's like a weird super tangy sauce. I guess you could say I stumbled upon this place..while surfing through my options in ferndale I saw Inyo after having a craving for fried rice. Although no fried rice was on the receipt tonight I did enjoy my meal! We had the spicy edamame, jalapeño shrimp(short on shrimps Imo), a sushi roll(I forgot which one because there were a ton to choose from), chicken wraps, and the finally the ginger chicken and Singapore noodles for the main course. All of the items were better than I expected. Presentation was interesting for the entree..all the vegetables were served steamed on the side instead of in the dish in the yummy ginger sauce. My go to for sushi & cocktails after a long day !!! I did this original review about a year ago. Inyos is one of my absolute favorite restaurants. As a Chef myself it's a go to spot for me. Unfortunately last night my friend & myself both got extremely ill after eating here. We ordered the spicy balsamic shrimp & sunshine roll. At about 3am we both woke up vomiting & using the bathroom really bad. Neither of us had anything else to eat to this day. I reached out to the GM who basically said there is nothing she could do, as she sold hundreds of the product & no one else complained. Which I do not believes that warrants her to discredit my experience. She basically brushed me off & said "hope you feel better". I wasn't expecting a full refund but as a very loyal customer some sort of compensation was definitely expected. Though this is one of my favorite restaurants I will never patronize this business again. It's very unfortunate as I do really love it here. If i could give this place -5 stars I would. From the second I walked in with one other person, there was no host to greet us... we had to wait 5 minutes til we finally went to get somebody. Then we were walked over to a table that was filthy. And had to stand over there holding our menus waiting for it to be cleaned off. Finally after sitting there for 20 minutes we had to ask for a server and a guy came over and greeted us and we put our food order In. We ordered 2 soups 2 seaweed salads and a couple sushi rolls.... He said okay I'll be right back with your soup... 20 minutes later, still no soup and he walks by with a drink and says I'll be right back. He comes back And goes "Are you guys ready to order"? I went here for my birthday 10/18 . Nice atmosphere I was seated quickly even though I was late. Overall good service my waiter was nice but prompt I started with the Godzilla drink and dynamite sushi roll the drink was delicious and the sushi was great. I ate the lamb chops and shrimp fried rice they were delicious I also had martinis (forgot the names ) but they were also good. Overall a really great experience drinks were good and food was good. 2018-05-01. Located right on the corner of Woodward and Withington just north of 9 Mile, the front door of Inyo is locked with a sign to use the rear entrance. Strange, but OK because that's where the parking is anyway. There are 3 handicap parking spaces and 11 regular spaces with a 90 min limit so if your lucky you'll get one. If you're unlucky, Paid parking is steps beyond that and is $0.25/30 minutes with a $0.50 minimum. There is also metered street parking, but I didn't get any prices. So I don't really know how to rate Inyo. They say they're fusion, so it's really just their take on a bunch of dishes. As it is, I'll rate the dishes with a cleansed palette. One of the first things I noticed was that they don't serve sushi and sashimi platters. These are only available à la carte. The next thing I noticed is the price. Rolls are almost twice the price I'm used to paying, let's hope they're worth it! We went with the soft shell appetizer, caterpillar roll, dragon roll, tsunami roll, and a spicy salmon crunch. Aside from that we also ordered a hot sea stone bowl with beef. Soft shell crab appetizer Not tempura batter but maybe that's the fusion. The batter is on the lighter side which was nice. I wouldn't rave about it, but I can't say it was bad either. 3 stars. Caterpillar Roll Eel, fake crab meat, cucumber and lots of avocado make for a very creamy roll. For a specialty roll, I think it was too simple and lacked depth. Huge disappointment for me, especially with the "imitation crab". +1/2 star for the eel, 1,5 stars. Dragon roll Tempura shrimp and eel are the main attractions here. The crab was the fake kind akin to the Caterpillar roll, and this dish was marginally better with the shrimp. So far, I'm seeing and tasting nothing special with these specialty rolls. 2 stars. Spicy Salmon Crunch Rolls with real fish are batting 0.000! Nothing but the usual suspects in this one. Salmon and scallions topped with crunchy flakes. The pieces were small, but it was a regular roll (not a specialty one). 2 stars. Tsunami roll. A 3rd roll with crab, will it be real? Nope, same fake crab meat. Not even the seared salmon was able to save this one. 2 stars. Hot sea stone bowl with beef (+$4). Finally a delicious dish! It was aromatic and the flavors were good. Sweet and savory, the stone bowl continues to keep the food piping hot throughout the entire meal! The beef was nice and tender and did not dry out even the slightest despite it being charred on the grill. Without adding meat, you'll need to rely on the fried egg for protein, and I think this dish can hold out on its own just fine. 4 stars. Overall the rolls were a big bust for me. The fact that they were supposed to be specialty rolls made it all the worse. Premium price tags for mediocre ingredients. The sea stone bowl on the other hand did not disappoint. I've had this dish many times in many places and despite carrying a higher price tag, they still did do a good job here. unfortunately, this dish alone is not enough to carry the load. This trip reminded me of Cowfish at Universal studios, except they were even more creative. I wasn't a fan at Cowfish, and it looks like a repeat at Enyo too. It's in yo face kind of good!!! Sushi is always a hit or a miss and this place is safe to try! Food was good but a little pricey, service was decent and the sushi won't clear your bowels. We came here for a small dinner party of 9 on a Friday night. The hostesses were very helpful to make our reservation and seat us accordingly. We called in advance to let them know we would arrive a few minutes late and they still saved our seats. Everything we tried was pretty tasty! We started off with mizo soup, fried noodle salad and shrimp dumplings. The mizo soup came out luke warm and cooled fast. Very flavorful though and had one large chunk of tofu. The fried noodles with vegetables were yummy. It tasted similar to stir fry, vegetables were cooked perfectly and the noodles were thin but not overbearingly sauced. The dumplings were not my favorite. You can choose to get them pan fried or deep fried. I like my dumplings crunchy and packed with flavor...we should have chose deep fried. Pan fried made them a tad bit soggy. We also got the edamame that came with a sweet spicy chili sauce...if you don't like spice I'd recommend getting the sauce on the side! Holy cow this was making our noses run and our eyes water, if you dip it in soy sauce it takes away some of the spicy sting. But the edamame was fresh and light! Would highly recommend. Cocktails were strong but the cups are small and had lots of ice. Drinks are around $10-15 and can rack up the bill pretty quick. Our whole table shared, mixed and traded sushi. Presentation made every piece look appetizing and well put together. Everything we got was amazing! If you're new to sushi and are freaked out by the idea of raw fish, try the chicken tempura! It's very Americanized sushi, it has grilled chicken and not too much of the extra sushi add ons. My favorites were the spicy lady and white dragon. There was a sushi roll that had crab salad in it...yummy! For crunch lovers be sure to ask for extra crunch flakes, they are sparingly provided on the dish. Also, get an extra side of wasabi! However they prepare theirs it was by far my favorite. it's not too dry and has a thinner consistency than most however it made it easy to add on to the sushi rolls. Most prices of the rolls are anywhere from $8-$20. We got two sushi rolls, mizo soup, edamame and dumplings, the bill was $55. Recently caught up with a friend over drinks and she suggested we go to Inyo. It was a Thursday night and honestly after reading previous Yelp reviews I was pretty nervous about how it would go. Turns out I didn't need to be! City parking is available behind the restaurant, but be sure to note your space number and pay for your spot. It was pretty busy when we arrived so we had to sit at the bar, which is not always my jam - however I actually really enjoyed their bar space. I didn't feel crammed at all and the bar itself is pretty wide. Bartender was friendly and helpful. Sushi was average - not bad but not great. Fairly good food! Comparable prices to Ronin and Sakana. Our waitress, Chloe, was fun and a total delight. For our meal, we ordered the Fuji roll, the Dynamite roll, and some edamame. I enjoyed the dynamite roll a lot. It came served on fire which was a lot of fun. The fuji roll was pretty good too. I do hate the extremely long plates that the food comes on though. I usually love their sushi but the restaurant is going downhill. I have dined on multiple occasions but it's not getting better. They still have the problems with gnats swarming over you and your food when you eat. The lady manager says they're getting it taken care of, but this has been the same thing said previously. If I'm paying over $100 for a meal and wine, at least make the dining experience enjoyable. We couldn't even take the rest of our food home because of the issue. It has potential to be great again but I'll hold off on going back until they fix some things. read more

I'm not impressed w this place. I have been here a few times and the wait staff is always subpar. They never really tried to make an effort. They will see you at your dining table but not come over on time. They literally made us wait 20 minutes before coming by. When they came to take our order he got my friends order but didn't even look at me to take my drink order. WTF! My friend did have them make him a specialty drink. When he finally took my drink order I had the pink princess drink. A little bit later I also tried the white blossom martini. I prefer the white blossom martini. The waiter finally stopped over again to take the app order. My friend told them to ask me what I want and he took my order but he failed to ask my friend what he wanted! Again, wtf! What is going on with your wait staff. Our apps consisted of gyoza, seaweed salad, and shrimp tacos. The rolls that I ordered were the dynamite, volcano, and the caterpillar roll. The food itself was good so no real complaints there. Towards the end of the evening the waiter had the audacity to come back in the middle of our meal and tell my friend that he was leaving and that he needed to take the payment now. This was in the middle of our dinner. So not classy and uncouth! He then told us that our bartender would be the one taking care of us. She came over and interrupted our conversation again to let us know who she was. The whole evening was just not that pleasant and the ambience was terrible due to the waiter and bartender. As other reviews have noted the dinner menu is a bit pricey. They have lunch specials that are more reasonable. The salmon bento box is beautifully arranged, each part edible. At first it just looked pretty, and then we realized that it was all made of food. The edible parts looked prettier than they tasted, but were at least fun to try. It also came with miso soup, which was average. I did really like the dressing on the small side salad. A friend had the hot stone bowl with tofu and enjoyed it. Our favorite item we had was the lettuce wraps with tofu. I know many people are "tofu, eh." But this was cubed and lightly fried, absorbing flavors. I would give lunch four stars. During a different visit, for dinner, we tried the tempura and a couple sushi rolls. Some of the rolls were a bit small for the price. The only one we did not enjoy was the spicy tuna. The tuna was shredded/mashed up and mix with a spicy sauce. It tasted artificial and had an unpleasant texture. The California roll was pretty average. We really liked the rainbow roll. Visited Inyo with my sushi partner in crime during Ferndale restaurant week. There was a 20-25 min wait so we decided to grab a drink at the bar. I have to say that the bartender seemed way out of his element and overwhelmed. It really wasn't that busy and he took 15 mins to pour two glasses of wine. When we were seated at out table our server was very nice and went over the restaurant week specials. We opted to do the salad, 3 sushi rolls and mochi for $20 and just added an extra salad. It worked out perfectly. We tried the spicy tuna, spicy salmon crunch and crunchy crab rolls, all of which were fantastic. One thing that I like about the sushi (besides its yumminess) was the fact that they do very small rolls and you can actually fit them in your mouth without making a mess! It was our first time there so we got a variety of things to try and only ate 2 of them. For starters, everything was luke warm at best and everything lacked seasoning and flavor, including the drink. The pasta was dry, the Lotus leaf thing was disgusting and this Japanese restaurant should definitely refrain from serving Indian dishes. This is a great sushi joint in ferndale. They have great Spivey edamame and a wide variety of cooked and uncooked rolls. Service is a little slow when they are busy but the sushi chefs are very fast. I will come back to try some different rolls for sure! read more

I have come here quite a bit and always get consistent sushi and service. I always get the same thing when I come: soft shell crab appetizer, inyo roll, salmon roll, yellow tail and scallion roll, and a Philly roll. My fav is the appetizer and the yellowtail and scallion roll. I'd like to give this place 4.5 stars because I wish they had a few more unique rolls. Many of the rolls have krab and I'm not a fan of that and the rolls that don't have krab are somewhat limited and basic. The inyo roll is the most creative roll that doesn't have the imitation crab. Either way, this place is always good, clean, prompt, etc. I also like that they have a variety of seating options. They have an outdoor area, booths, and high tops at the bar. I was truly disappointed in this restaurant. It started with after ordering my drink, it took 35 minutes to get served. When i asked the waitress if they are short staffed, she said no, so clearly she forgot about us. She finally took our order and the food was served promptly (due to delay in getting our drinks). The annoying part was that she put the sushi roll that is on fire in front of us that we aren't able to reach our sushi because of placement of the dish. If we reached over, we would burn ourselves so instead we waited for the flame to go down to eat. The spot is amazing. Good lighting. I've been here on date night 2 or 3 times. Food is amazing. My personal favorite is the White Dragon. That aside, one person in particular stood out and was very memorable each time. His name is Syed! Each time he was mannerable and courteous. Not just to us, but I could hear him speaking to others with the same CARE and respect. During Covid, times are hard. He made the experience SO much better. Even as I type this he's going above and beyond for our table. I tried to snap a picture, but he's that quick and good. This guy has been great every time we've come! He's more than deserving of a raise. Being management of customer service myself, Syed has exceeded my expectations. Overall, I was disappointed with Inyo's food, drinks and service. Originally, my husband and I wanted to try the new noodle joint Kaizen Ramen in Royal Oak but it is closed on Sunday so we settled with Inyo. Our server was an unfriendly miserable drip who was having a bad day and should of stayed home. It was Sunday brunch so we ordered a Mojito and a Bellini that were okay nothing spectacular. We ordered hot and sour soup, spicy tuna hand rolls, fried gyozas, and several other dishes. The soup was very sour and did not have the depth of flavor like served in traditional Asain restaurants. The FRIED gyozas had only 3 dumplings for $3 that were basically steamed with a light searing on the bottom of each dumpling. I ordered fried not steamed gyozas, the server argued it was fried but instead of making it right for the customer and bringing a new order of fried dumplings she insisted on arguing that it was fried which it wasn't. I was over her and those overpriced mediocre dumplings. Unbelievable for Inyo to charge a buck per dumpling. Never again. Years ago we dined at the Inyo in West Bloomfield and consistently had good food and service. Unfortunately, it closed but I will have to reflect on those memories because I'm done with the Ferndale location. read more

The bartender was inattentive and too busy with her brother at the bar or cleaning the bar top to attend to us. A Sapporo beer and a Pinot Grigio ran $24 with tip. We were about to order food at the bar when the host finally told us a booth was available. Our server was efficient and knew the menu well. Our dragon roll, general's chicken, and salad were quite good. However we were nickel and dimed to death. Wasabi on the plate was less than 1/2 teaspoon. When we asked for more, there was a surcharge. That's like charging for extra ketchup with your fries at McD's! White onions on a house salad were $2.00 extra with no notice that onions were a la carte. The last straw was the brown rice side dish with the general's chicken. No notice that it was $1.00 extra. Portion size was a monkey dish, about a 1/2 cup. My companion wanted a few bay shrimp on the rice, $3.00 surcharge + $8.00 for a shrimp fried rice? So $11.00 in unreasonable adds to our bill, not counting the shrimp for $3. I'd call it robbery. Too bad because the food was better than average, but I will be challenging my CC bill. read more

A continuous Groupon deal on a 3 stars gets us to a 4 star rating. ' I kind of feel that if we are talking full Asian dishes or Tapa type food there is plenty of good things on the menu. We ordered a pork belly meal to share and, well, we ended up not sharing it because my fiance at almost all of it. We also enjoyed the lobster spring rolls. We weren't blown away by the tempura shrimp and vegetables but it wasn't bad. When it comes to the sushi side, it seems like this is the place to go if you (A) have never had sushi or are a novice. The sushi prices are a bit on the higher side and overall the rolls I have had are just average in flavor, size, and value. The customer bonus is that they consistently have a Groupon which is a pretty good value.
