Dr. Edna Lee is the BEST! My son and I have been coming here for 5 years and she has been gently, understanding and patient with my eye phobias- as in nobody can touch them! Ended up that I need new glasses as does my son and they have a great selection of glasses to choose from. They handle all insurance quickly and the entire experience is stress free and prompt. They do not leave you waiting at all which is a huge bonus in and of itself. Lastly, we got back to back Saturday appointments which did take a month to get, but that is due to the time of year I believe. read more

Disappointed for the first time here. Both Drs Clifford and Edna Lee are excellent, caring and make the effort to know you personally. And typically the storefront staff are superb, with great advice and service when selecting new frames. Today, it was a dramatically different experience. Despite 4 people on staff, and 2 trunk show staff, no one apart from the trunk show folks could be bothered to actually talk to me. Instead there was chit chat among friends who wandered in and out, or the terrified look from the one staff member assigned to me who appeared to be new and unaware of how to actually get out from behind the counter and choose frames. I stumbled on this place about five years ago when I was shopping for some new frames. The staff was very helpful and I liked that they suggested ideas that originally seemed too bold in my opinion, but once I tried them on, really liked many of them. I loved the selection they had and ended up getting two pairs. As I recall, I got a discount on the second pair, but I'm not sure if they still do that. Dr. Clifford was so great at my initial exam that I've been going to see him ever since. I first got glasses when I was 7 years old, so I've seen my share of optometrists since then. He's by far the most thorough I've been to, and takes the time to explain what each test covers and what he's looking for. He also helps you understand things you can do to promote good eye health, which I have to admit, I had never really thought about before. I got LASIK surgery about three years ago, and he also covered my post-op care for that. He was 40% cheaper than the surgeon's fee for the same care as well. I still go see him once a year for my checkup, but it's been a while now since I bought some frames. The rest of the staff has always been incredibly helpful and friendly and they'll take as much time as you need to try on different frames. I still love browsing through their selection when I'm in for my exams--it's got some great options for a wide range of tastes. They only take VSP (?) for insurance, but I have Blue Cross PPO and I can get reimbursed for my annual exam, I just have to pay it out of pocket initially. I recently snapped the bridge on my slightly more than a year old pair of frames while routine lens cleaning. Initially concerned about cost and ability to replace them, I called Invision and received incredibly prompt and helpful service from both Sean (over the phone) and Beth (in store). The whole ordeal was a bit frantic: I was getting married in just more than a week and lacked an extra pair of frames. My lenses also have a strong prism, so I really shouldnt be able to see. Invision was able to replace my original frames in about a week, and even gave me info on a place to get a temporary fix (that didn't work, but Invision staff took care of that too!) Needless to say, I appreciated Beth's "mom" moment about the extra frames and will definitely be back in for that second set. read more

I've been a patient and customer of Invision Optometry for more than nine years and have had consistently excellent, thoughtful care and service. I've been to other eye doctors and optometrists in the Bay Area but since discovering Invision, I've had no interest or reason stray! The retail space is spacious, well-lit, and filled with a wide array of stylish frames both trendy and classic. Frame buyer Lisa has an exceptional sense of fit-for-face in shape and style. No need to bring a friend - she'll tell you what flatters and what doesn't (but she'll wait for you to see it yourself before pointing it out ;-). Last frames I bought, she selected a handful for me to try and I sensed had found her favorite. Yet she carried on showing me everything I wanted so that I felt comfortable with my choice - no rushing, just lots of great advice and perspective. Dr. Clifford Lee may be the best mix of medical knowledge and warm, friendly demeanor of any doctor I've ever had. He's taught me that eye care is one part science and one part art, like treating so many health challenges. He uses the latest equipment to do his exams, diagnose the facts, and determine the best correction. But, he explained, you can't always optimize everything simultaneously and that's where the art comes in. He's patiently and clearly explained the tradeoffs and even sent me out of the office with sample lenses to experiment for a short time before deciding on which were best suited to my needs. Before I moved to the Bay Area I went to an ophthalmologist and I was happy learn that Dr. Lee, an optometrist, does all the same tests. I initially went to Dr. Clifford for a lasik consult, and in the process he figured out the prescription I'd been wearing for years was WAY too strong. I've struggled with frequent headaches for a while - no surprise once he figured this out. He went above and beyond in helping me to get to the right prescription. I came in for several follow ups to tweak the prescription, switch contact brands, etc. I also saw Dr. Edna who was great, too. Never going to my previous optometrist again! read more

Wow. I have been wearing contacts and glasses for over 20 years now (EEP!) and going to the eye doctor is something I have come to dread. I wait too long, I wear my contacts to tatters, I lose my crappy glasses I didn't really like anyway, and lick the bald spot in my wallet for weeks. NOT THE CASE HERE. Staff are friendly and attentive, I got a great pair of glasses that everyone loves and compliments me on and my contacts are just right. My wife and I started coming to Invision a couple of years ago, and they have constantly exceeded our expectations. Their staff is friendly and very knowledgeable about selecting frames. They have a wonderful selection of frames, along with some unusual brands and styles that you won't find most other places. However, what originally drew us into their shop was our longtime optician had come over to run Invision's lab a couple of years ago. My wife and I both have high minus prescriptions (-6 for me and a -10 diopters for my wife), and we are now in our 50's and both wear progressive lenses. If you want your progressive lenses done right the first time, with minimal adaptation needed and excellent vision, this is where you want to go to get your progressives done! Invision not only uses the very best lens products and technology, but even more critical, they also know how to take your measurements properly to set up your progressive lenses in your frame. For progessive lenses, if your measurements are not done properly by someone who really knows what they are doing (and it comes from experience and skill), you probably won't be satisfied, or you won't have the optimal visual experience that you could achieve. I just bought a new pair of glasses today and I am really excited to get them! Invision has a great selection of stylish and chic frames--I was initially overwhelmed. I was helped by Luis who did a great job of pulling a comprehensive range of frames that fit my aesthetic while also elevating my look and pushing me past my comfort zone. I purchased a pair of Jaque Marie Mage frames from this retailer in April of last year. Recently the hinge has fractured away from the temple, something that is clearly a manufacturer defect. These hinges are sterling silver and soldering is not optimal. So I reached out to the manufacturer first. JMM told me there was nothing they could do and to contact the retailer where the frames were purchased, as they do not sell their optical frames directly. After numerous phone calls, Invision's Peter, told me the only thing he could do for me is send off the frame to JMM for them to assess. Which is basically telling me there is nothing that they will do for me either. I would understand if the frames were years old and I had done something to damage them, but I haven't and they are only just over the 1 year warranty. The customer service from Invision and JMM are circumstances that I will make sure to let others know of every chance I get. read more

I went in as a complete novice to buying glasses. I had fear about perhaps picking the wrong frames that didn't suit me, and that i'd ultimately regret my purchase afterwards. But after spending some time with Mike from Invision Optometry, my worries were laid to rest. Mike presented lots of options for me, that would suit my face size/shape, and explained why some worked and others didn't in a clear and easy to understand way. He was personable, friendly and very honest. No hard sells at all. I actually had a lot of fun, and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to buy a pair of frames. The reason i'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 stars, is that i was given an expectation of having the glasses ready in 7-10 business days. Ultimately wasn't what happened. What happened was that Invision Optometry sends out frames and prescriptions to an external company that cuts the lens down, and fits them to frames. The problem being, that the particular Wood & Gold frames i bought proved to be slightly trickier to work with. (perhaps due to them being made of wood?). And so when Invision Optometry received them back, they had small defects. Mike, and the other staff at Invision Optometry were upfront and honest about these small defects, and that they would have to be redone. Mike also mentioned that i wouldn't have noticed the defects at all, but that he'd refuse to let them leave the store unless they were perfect. As would have it, Invision Optometry ended up cutting + fitting the lenses themselves, as they wanted to ensure i didn't have to wait any longer than needed. So while i had to wait longer for my glasses, ultimately it was worth the wait. The frames and lenses look fantastic, and are 'perfect'. I was only sad that it took a little longer than i was told initially. But i certainly still recommend anyone needing glasses to go there. The customer service is fantastic, and they're super friendly, and knowledgable. In fact, i bought a second pair today from them. read more

This is the first negative review I've ever written on Yelp. Dr. Edna was my optometrist for about the last year and a half and for the most part the experience has been good. However, after a recent change in my prescription, I started getting ocular migraines for the first time. These are haloes in your vision that can be pretty unnerving... imagine your entire field of vision being taken over suddenly by a bright glowing light. I wrote to Dr. Edna saying that I was pretty worried and asking if it was the prescription. I thought we should at least go back to the older prescription to see if that made a difference. She was out of the office and said she would get back to me and then... nothing. I never heard from her again. I've meanwhile gone to a different optometrist who dialed back the prescription and the ocular migraines have ceased. My sense is that if you're looking for a basic eye exam (and they can fit you in), Invision is fine. But if you're looking for a more hands-on experience with optometrists that take the time to follow up with you and really follow through to make sure you're getting the prescription you deserve, I would pass and maybe find a smaller, more conscientious optometrist. read more

I have a weird face and the prescription of an optically-challenged bat. This means that since my prescriptive lenses are so thick, I prefer plastic frames to hide the girth, yet all plastic frames don't work with my eyes-and-nose-bridge combo. I also have VSP insurance, which comps the inevitably $600 lenses (the thinnest possible high-indexers, 1.74. Required for those with my condition), so I have to go somewhere that takes it. Cue the storyline: I searched for 3 whole months, across all the glasses stores of the city, fruitlessly seeking The Perfect Frame, with just a zit on my nose from all those used and oiled up nose pads to show for it. Then, I found Invision. (da da da daaaa!). Why Invision rocked beyond all others: 1. They take VSP 2. They have a huge selection of frames from crazy European and Asian brands, and a range of prices from affordable to jesus-you-need-insurance? Their selection must be at least 3 times most places. 3. Ask for Deejay- this guy gets frames. He knows all the frames, can gauge what works or doesn't work for your face (taking into account the depth of your lenses, the size of your nose bridge, the position of the eyes, the fabulousness of your style preferences, your coloring, your cool factor, your horoscope sign, your shoe size...). As much as I would love to have the time to try on all 300 glasses they have in stock (...), that he was able to cull the coolest and best ones for me out of there made it so easy. Instead of having none to choose from, I had oodles that all looked fabulous on me. Then I had to make a hard decision, but you know what- I'd rather be dealing with that then at another shop wondering which of the blah frames don't make my eyes look like I'm suffering from allergies. Unlike most people that have reviewed Invision Optometry, I did not enjoy my experience with the retail-side of the shop for the following reasons: 1) Retail staff ignored me when I was in the store. While they may have been helping others, they could have at a minimum acknowledged me. 2) Prices are not competitive for those glasses that I was looking at. They seem to charge more if you are using VSP. I came to find out that I could have saved myself $100 by purchasing the same pair of glasses from another store (highly rated on Yelp) in San Francisco. This other store does not take VSP, but will match VSP prices. 3) Retail staff not prompt in returning phone calls and emails. They aren't as nice about answering questions after you've made your purchase. While it is helpful that they take VSP and have a great selection of frames for a VSP shop (most VSP stores have limited selection), my negative experience with their customer service and non-competitive pricing will take me elsewhere for my next eyewear purchase...especially when there are other highly rated eyewear stores on Yelp that will discount frames just as if they accepted VSP. Hopefully you will have a better experience that I did. Just make sure you do some price comparisons before you make your purchase. I could have saved myself almost 30% had I made the time to do this. read more

I got my first pair of glasses at 10- these awesome purple and black marbley pair that was the coolest thing in my 4th grade class ( I went to grade school in the Central Valley, so not much was cool). I've never liked another pair of glasses again, and switched to contact lenses in the 6th grade. Yes! Invision is an amazing place. Dr. Clifford is so competent, sweet, and thorough. He's the kind of person who you trust and are endeared to right away. He took so much time with me and didn't rush at all. He explained a lot of eye mechanics stuff with to me with so much enthusiasm- I learned a little and felt like I had a doctor who really knew his stuff. He even called me personally a week or so after my appointment (which was very routine) to see how I was and to ask any questions. I've been to a lot of eye doctors in my life (even one who did magic tricks- which was pretty thrilling!) but Invision is the best. I will go to great lengths to stick with Dr. Lee. read more

I've been coming to Invision for about 11 years now. I've been wearing glasses for 38 years, and I have yet to come across a place with better doctors or a better selection of frames. Every staff member is essentially an eyewear stylist. They all have the ability to push you out of your comfort zone while helping you to choose something you love--every time. Finding frames that suit your face and that you also love is really tricky business, but Invision has mastered the art. I moved out of San Francisco a few years ago, but I continue to make the drive. As a newcomer to glasses, I was a bit anxious about taking the plunge on my first pair of designer frames. But Lisa at Invision Optometry made it incredibly easy. She helped me pick out about half a dozen choices that ranged from merely cool to ultra-hip, I settled on a favorite, and then we sat down and worked out a great deal on the price -- my new glasses came out to barely more than I paid for my first decidedly un-hip foray into eyewear, despite their designer pedigree and Invision's upscale Fillmore location. I've purchased two pairs of glasses here and I love them both. One is a classic everyday style and the other is more bold statement style and one that I would've never chosen on my own. That's how great the staff here is. They LOVE eyewear and will help you pick something that looks good on YOU. Also if you're open to suggestions I feel like they pick styles that might be out of your comfort zone but still look good. I'm super happy they picked out cherry red frames that I would've never picked for myself but now wear all the time. I found the Lee's through Yelp! and I am so glad I did. One big requirement was that they take VSP insurance, and they did! So even though it was a good 6 weeks until they could take me I made an appointment. I saw Dr. Edna, the wife of the team, for my exam. She was excellent! Very thorough! And very friendly as well. The exam was almost a pleasure. As much as an exam can be :). They have a decent supply of frames. And finally I was able to find a pair that suited me. The prices are normal for the area. My family has used 3 or 4 different stores for buying frames in the last couple of years, and the prices at Invision were quite fair. I sent my husband to them as well. His experience was just as good. In fact after having to book a Saturday appt far in the future, Invision ended up calling because of a cancellation and fit him in much sooner. Good service. My frames arrived in a week and were perfect. The Dr.s and staff at Invision were great and I highly recommend them to anyone. read more
